Our Plans for Future Competitive Events

Greetings, this is Shadow Arena.

With 10 million KRW in cash prizes, the Regional Cup – Asia came to a long-awaited end after an intense and thrilling weekend of matches. We want to thank all the players who participated for showcasing their skills and the exciting experiences offered by Shadow Arena with their superb performances.

We hope it was as exciting for everyone watching as it was for the Shadow Arena team as we all spectated and cheered on together the intense action-packed combat of players battling it out for victory in the battlefield of Shadow Arena.

Now, some players may wonder what kind of competitive events are planned for the future, given that said events are a chance for them to showcase their skills and serve as additional motivation/goal for playing the game.

As Shadow Arena is a game designed with competitive events and esports in mind, we wanted to validate this by hosting several competitive events during the Beta Season Round 1. The Champions Showdown, an event to determine the best of the top ranking players, gave the highest ranker the honor of a special in-game title and skin, while the Regional Cup, open to anyone above a set criteria, gave players a chance at not only honor and fame, but plenty of rewards and experience as well.

We’ll be taking this kind of direction further during the remainder of the Beta Season Round 2 and the eventual Round 3 by presenting these competitive events in a somewhat newer form.

1. Champions Showdown

The Champions Showdown, an event to determine the best of the top ranking players, will be held at the end of each round as the final highlight for the players who ceaselessly compete in ranked matches throughout that round.

As an event with only 40 of the highest ranking players as participants, it will be a chance to go even further beyond the rankings and scores built up during the round and to truly see who the strongest player at the very end is.

The 2nd Champion Showdown will begin the day before the end of Round 2 on August 19 (Wed), and participant sign-ups will open tomorrow. We look forward to seeing who will be the last one standing at the top spot of round 2.

2. Regional Cup

The Regional Cup continues the competition for cash prizes. However, there was much to be desired regarding the amount of time that the current format required by having a couple of days to sign-up, and then having player play all the way through the group preliminaries until the playoffs.

Thus, we want to provide you with competitive experience more often by presenting a new Regional Cup which encompasses an entire process rather than just ending in one stroke.

First off, there’ll be weekly matches called the Regional Cup – Tryouts that will coincide with the start of Round 3. Through this new entry system, anyone can directly take up the challenge of the group preliminaries in-game regardless of signing up beforehand or a selection process. The Tryout events will take place every week with a preliminaries and playoffs, and of course, there will also be cash prizes on the line.

The Tryouts will have other benefits besides cash prizes as well. The winner of the weekly Tryout playoffs will be seeded to the Regional Cup and go directly to the playoffs.

After a total of 4 weekly Tryouts, the same kind of Regional Cup that took place a couple of days ago will return with 40 players who advance through a separate preliminaries and the players seeded from the Tryouts.

3. 1v1 Challenger Series (EU/RU, NA, SA Server)

We know that most of recent official competitive events are being held in the Asia server, and we’ve received feedback from many players of other regions regarding the progress of these events.

As we believe this is the right time, we are currently planning on competitive events for the EU/RU, NA, and SA servers.

We hope you’ll understand that the competitive events held on the Asia server are in a testing phase for us to establish the rules and way we’ll run these sort of events.

To somewhat alleviate this desire for competitive events, we’ll be holding separate events consecutively on the EU/RU, NA, and SA servers during the months of August and September. It’ll be a little different that just Solo mode, but there will be a 1v1 tournament where players can truly compete with skills, so please stay tuned.

Shadow Arena is still in its Early Access, but it will continue to develop as a game and a source of enjoyment while evolving as an esport with competitive events. The details we’ve previewed today are the current state of this process. We’ll do our best by keep trying to give our players more interesting and diverse experiences. Please stay tuned!
