KOTCL Developer Diaries: Animations, Cards, Gifts And A Little Bit Of News

Knock-knock, travelers!

It's time to open our notes again and make a new entry. And along the way, we’ll tell you about the results of this week. Let's get started!
It Starts With "We’re Having" And Ends With "A Giveaway"
We can’t help but remind you that every week we give away 5 keys to our game. To participate, you need to follow the link, log in using a convenient way, and complete at least one task.

We’re rooting for every participant and wish you all good luck!
Message From the Trade Guild
Do you remember the learned goblin that was captured by orcs and only our heroes were able to decide his fate? Well, if you help him get rid of the annoying and dangerous orc-thugs, he’ll turn out to be quite useful! Visit his potion shop and you’ll see not only a variety of quaint bottles but also a new vendor portrait. After all, it's always nice to know who you're dealing with.
Ace Up The Sleeve
To defeat an enemy, you first need to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and then apply this knowledge in practice. We thought that this would be a useful skill for our heroes, and it would be great to give them such an opportunity. Our artists shared the process of creating art for special unique cards that will help you in battle, but only if you thoroughly study your opponents in advance. And exactly how you can do that, we’ll tell you in the next diaries.
Animation Tour
The animators’ room is always buzzing with activity, and we are pleased to share the results of their work with you. What did this week bring us?

Energy Should Be Energetic
Vanadis’ and her pets' energy underwent significant changes during the rework, so to not overlook Persival and Bjorn, we added new effects for their energy icons and notches. Beautiful!
What's New In The Events?
We have some updates! Now the tumbleweed is actually rolling and... Oh, what is that shining over there? Maybe it’s something useful... Shall we catch up?

We’ve had a bear without the bear, a marauder without the marauder and now it’s time for a lycan without the lycan! This frightened dwarf is actually very happy about being rescued, he just hasn't realized that yet.

Card Effects
We continue to visually enrich not only buffs and debuffs, but cards too. For example, now, when a card burns, it flares up, and when attacks are used, they create a small kaboom. We added these animations for clarity, to show you the idea itself. What do you think about this? Do you like card animations like this? Share your opinion in the comments!
How About Some Chit-Chat?
Hey, it’s Andrew aka Innrey, the founder of RedBoon. This week turned out to be quite busy; we’ve been doing a lot of work on the game. So we don’t have much flashy news, but I'll still tell you about some things.

In addition to the huge amount of internal processes related to the main game, we also focused on other matters. But all of them concern the game, I swear.

Despite being involved in producing a game, I still remain a player and get disappointed when I don't get what was promised after making a purchase. Of course, I’m grateful for the opportunity to get a refund of a game, but it's not always clear what you're getting into after just 2 hours of gameplay. Especially if you give the game a second chance during those 2 hours.

I care about fair treatment of players and I don't want to sell them a "pig in a poke". Where am I going with this? Right now, we're working on a small free version of our game on Steam. It will be like a prologue, giving potential players the chance to get acquainted with the game without resorting to piracy to download an old buggy version, spoil their own first impression, and then complain about it on social media.

In this prologue, we will introduce players to the basics, immerse them in the world of Midian, and, of course, showcase some of the content. In general, we'll try to demonstrate our game without requiring any extra financial investment. I think it's fair to give players the opportunity to play a demo-version, especially when it's not a half-baked version of the game, but a full-fledged teaser of the future adventures. What do you think about this? Do you like this idea and how do you feel about free demo versions? Does it affect your attitude towards the game?

I’d also like to share the results of the voting for the vertical banner for the "Millenis Nightmares" DLC. I want to thank all the participants, your feedback is very valuable, and the way you described the advantages and disadvantages of each option in detail really helped us see everything from different perspectives and finally make a choice. Almost unanimously, you chose the option below.

Many have noted that this banner features all the heroes and has a better composition, and we agree with that. Inspired by this feedback, we made some improvements to the banner: we fixed the physics (the cards seem to levitate above the hand; of course, Millenis could do that easily, but this really catches the eye) and we turned the cards over so as not to spoil too much, and here's what we got:

I think it turned out great. I want to thank everyone again for participating in the voting, you are all awesome! It's very nice to see your involvement and read your comments. We’ll definitely ask for your help with future choices, so stay tuned.

Well, I guess that's all for now. Don't forget about our social media, leave us some comments, and drop by our Discord server.

See you in a week!
