Dev Log- February 2023

Hello, Frontiers!

As we shared in the previous news, we are improving and developing existing and new content based on the feedback from players during the demo play last year.

Recently we have been seeing our community members in Discord looking forward to the release of DUBIUM, which made us very happy and grateful for your attention.

To answer your excitement, we are happy to say that there will certainly be a playtest for you guys to play DUBIUM ‘before’ Q2, 2023, when we are planning our Early Access launch.

Since some announcements will come, we prepared this Dev Log simple and neat. So, be sure to stay tuned for upcoming news and announcements!

Let’s take a look at what has been updated.
New Content Development
One of the most referred feedback and suggestions we received from you guys was about adding new content. During our live AMA session for the Next Fest: OCT, we lightly shared some concept sketches we had up in our sleeves.

To give you guys a sneak peek about the new frontier. He is an ex-hunter from Iceland who specializes in traps. He has joined the space frontier to find a utopia to release his twisted desires.

We hope you guys like what we prepared. If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to leave them in the comments below or on Discord.

We appreciate your love and interest in DUBIUM so far, and we hope to see you soon and share more updates with you.

Thank you!

Dev Log – January 2023

Happy new year, Frontiers

We are happy to share this year's first updates and development progress so far!
So, let’s take a look at what has been improved and changed!
1. In-Game Tutorial Development Progress
Last year’s top feedback and suggestions we got from you guys, were about adding an “in-game tutorial”. As we promised during our live AMA session for the Next Fest: OCT, we are currently developing an in-game tutorial with the gameplay data we gained from the demo play. This is for new and experienced players to have a better understanding of DUBIUM gameplay.

The tutorial is designed with different types of sessions in which players are guided to learn the basics and complex gameplays in DUBIUM.
2. New Features and Updates on the UI

• Death Report System
During the demo play, when a player died, a blurry orange screen displayed the status of revival and death. This confused some players as to why they were revived or not revived So, we have updated the screen by displaying the cause of death and the reason why the player wasn’t revived.
• Status Effect UI Updates
In DUBIUM there are several status effects, and we wanted to emphasize what status the player’s character is in. We developed a UI Icon display system to help players understand the status they are

Availability of Revival: The green heart icon in the player UI displays the availability of revival. If the player character dies while that green heart icon is lit up, they can revive. If the player loses the ability to revive for whatever reason, the icon will be empty.

Status Effect: When a status effect is applied to the player’s character, relevant status effect UI Icons are displayed in the player’s character UI.
3. Throwable Items Control Rework
In the previous DUBIUM build, to use a throwable item, players just need to click while equipping the throwables. This throwing method caused players to use the item unintentionally, which made an unwanted situation happen. To fix these issues, we reworked the control mechanism of throwable items.

The controls for the items have been changed to a ‘hold-and-release’ method.

To throw the item, a player should hold the left mouse button. While holding the button, the player will be able to see the predicted path trajectory. Players can place it at an intended destination. Upon releasing the left mouse button, it will throw the item.

The right mouse button can be used to toggle between the two throwing modes: the underhand throwing mode and the overhand throwing mode. You can toggle between the two modes even while you're holding the left mouse button and aiming.

Dev Log – December 2022: NEXT Fest Feedback 2

Hello, Frontiers

We would like to share what has been updated since the last demo play during the NEXT Fest.
We are currently updating and implementing new features from your feedback during the demo.
Let’s take a look at what has been improved and changed!
1. Updated Solar Panel Repair Mini Game
We had feedback from our veteran Frontiers about the Solar Panel Repair Mini game needing to be more complex. So, we added some spice by adding an extra step to it. Upon activating the solar panels in outer space, the fuses get overloaded randomly, and Frontiers must fix the fuses to activate the solar panels. While repairing the fuse, if someone inside tries to overload the solar panel, you might get damaged by the explosion, just like before the update.
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
2. Item Spawn Updates
During the demo play, we had feedback that weapons and items are appeared in the limited spots. For a better game experience, we have updated and added locations for items spawn.

New Item Spawn Location: Infirmary
The Infirmary has been newly added as an item spawn location. In the Infirmary, Frontiers will be able to loot health items and oxygen cans that are placed in the room.

Weapon Spawn Rate Update:
We had feedback about 1) the low weapon spawn rate and 2) Frontier who promptly perform their mission didn’t have a chance to obtain a weapon, which made them vulnerable to other Frontiers or a traitor who had weapons. So, currently, we are conducting various tests by adding different tiers of weapons and spawn locations so that Frontiers can loot weapons.

To tell you guys more about the weapon tiers, it consists of 3 tiers which are “Rusted”, “Normal”, and “Superior.” Rusted weapons are easily found in Uterlab-11 while it has the lowest damage. Normal Survival Ax and Superior-tier weapons can be obtained only in chief cabins, which deals stronger damages.

Weapon List:

We are trying our best to listen and implement Frontiers’ feedback. Please comment below or in our official discord if you have any more questions or good suggestions.

We appreciate your love and interest in DUBIUM, and we wish you guys a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you guys in January 2023!

Thank you

Dev Log - October 2022

Hello, Frontiers

I hope you guys had a blast playing DUBIUM Demo.
For this month’s Dev log, we would like to talk about what we’ve heard from players during the Next Fest as it was quite a big event for us. During the demo, we received many valuable feedback and suggestions from players.

Top 5 categories of feedback from the players
 1. Tutorial
 2. (Player) Reporting System
 3. New Content (Mini Game, Map, Character)
 4. Platform (PC, Console, Gamepad)
 5. Localization

So, let’s go over some feedback and questions that you guys asked!

Q: How much will DUBIUM be and when is it going to be released?!
A: First, the cost of DUBIUM will be around $30. We were planning to release DUBIUM this Q4 of this year and during the Next Fest we realized that we may need to include some new features and have more polishing to do so we are planning to release DUBIUM Early Access next year(possibly Q2)

Q: Will there be a tutorial for DUBIUM?
A: YES, we’ve heard you all. A tutorial will be included. We are brainstorming what type of tutorial would be more adequate for players. If you have any suggestions, drop by our Discord and let us know.

Q: Will there be a reporting system for players who ruin the game experience?
A: Yes, the Player reporting system is one of the features in our development roadmap. Therefore it will be included later. If you experienced offensive, negative, or disruptive behavior from another player you will be able to report a player in the later version.
We are aware that some players ruin the fun of a game for you and others in DUBIUM and we agree with you that certain restraint is necessary. With the data we gained during the demo we will develop a system to give you guys a better experience with DUBIUM.

Q: Will there be a new character or a new map coming?
A: Yes, more to come! We have a lot of content in our sketchbook. These are some designs and sketches of some ideas!

Q: Will DUBIUM support the console, steam deck, and gamepad?
A: Yes, we are planning to optimize the gamepad controls. Regarding the consoles and steam deck, we are also thinking about supporting them after releasing Early Access on PC.

Q: Will there be some new minigames? Like for Solar panels and escape vessels?
A: We used to have a minigame for them. We deactivated it to make it easier for new players. However, we are always open to ideas. If you guys have a great idea post it on the feedback forum in discord!

Q: Will there be a translation of other languages?
A: Yes! Oui! Sì! Ja! Sí! はい! 네! Owszem! 是的! Да! Sim! Ya! We haven't decided how many or what language to localize yet. If you have any recommendations, feel free to let us know.

If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to leave them in the comments below or on Discord .

See you next month!
