Adventure Events
Patch 2.8 brings with it a grand sense of adventure, as we introduce a new type of event to Paper Pirates! When an Adventure Event occurs during your journey, the crew temporarily takes a pitstop, engaging in a mini-adventure.

During an adventure, the crew have the chance to pick and choose which events take place, and multiple events will happen in quick succession. It’s an all new way to experience events - and the things that happen on an adventure don’t just stay on the adventure, they’re going to affect your game when you’re back on the ship too!

The Island Adventure
The very first Adventure Event is the Island Adventure, where the crew explore an island they discover way out in the seven seas! Together you have enough resources to explore two regions of the island, so pick wisely which bits of the island you want to see each time you visit!

The island has nine regions in total, which means there are nine new fun-filled events for you to experience as part of the Island Adventure. From fishing off the docks to diving for treasure, whichever activities you try out on your trip to the island it’s sure to shake things up in your game!

As an extra bonus, there are five new achievements relating to the island. Work hard when you’re on an adventure, and maybe you will discover a new hat for your efforts!

Dress for Adventure in the Outfit Shop
Our resident shopkeeper, Sam Sherbot, is already well acquainted with the island, and has stocked up the Outfit Shop with a whole new range of island-themed goodies for you to browse and purchase using the coins earned for playing Paper Pirates.

Continuing on the theme of dress-up, why not make an explorer outfit for your pirates - or go undercover and try to mingle with the local wildlife!

In total, there are over forty new outfit shop items, so there’s plenty of new ways for you to customise your pirates.

New Outfit Customiser
As the number of things Sam Sherbot has on sale grows, we’ve overhauled the outfit customiser to make it more manageable when you have a large wardrobe for your pirates! The new outfit customiser is visible immediately when connecting to a game, and lets you start customising your pirate’s look right away. Don’t worry - the randomise buttons are still there for those of you who love to leave your look all up to chance!

Additionally, a new option on the outfit customiser lets you save your current outfit to a code, which you can then store and paste into the outfit customiser again to recreate your current look with one simple button press! This gives all pirates a great way to share dress-up tips, store a full range of outfits, or bring your outfit from one person’s game to another. If the owner of the game doesn’t have all the items in your outfit unlocked yet, they’ll get swapped out randomly for something they do have, so you might even uncover some new variations on your outfit that you love!

Daily Sales at the Outfit Shop
Sam Sherbot has been feeling generous of late, so they’re going to start offering a daily sale in the outfit shop. Each day a few categories from the shop will have a select number of items on sale, sometimes for as much as 75% off! The sales are the same for everyone, so if you see an item that’s a total steal, don’t forget to let your friends know so they can visit the Outfit Shop and pick it up for their game too!

A Few Other Things
 • We’ve revisited the Mutiny event to include crew interaction ensuring that the mutiny never feels like a product of bad luck. In the revamped Mutiny event, all players are given an opportunity to vote in secret as to whether they favour the mutiny, or not. If half or more of the crew vote to Mutiny, the captain is thrown overboard, with anyone who voted for the Mutiny having a chance to become a ghost if the captain was a human.
 • We’ve improved the way events are chosen each day, so you should see events that you see less often appearing more, to help keep every game fresh and unique!
 • The timer now has a visual indicator, which shows the number of seconds remaining before time’s up!
 • The ‘Bandana’ outfit category has been renamed to ‘Headwear’ to more accurately reflect the type of items in this category.
 • Attempting to start the game from a connected device now triggers a short countdown before the game is started. Attempts to start the game can be aborted from the main screen before the timer elapses.

Bug Fixes
 • A rare bug which caused pirates to play-in twice is now hopefully resolved.
 • Some text in the How to Play Guide for Default Games was accidentally duplicated, and has now been removed.

Ongoing Update
Events That Go On and On
We’re adding a new class of events to Paper Pirates, and reclassifying some of the old events to add clarity and readability to the game! ‘Ongoing Events’ are events which trigger some subtle rule or state change to the game, which lasts until something happens. You can see which ongoing events are currently in play by hovering over the ongoing event tabs in the top left of the main screen, or checking the ‘Ongoing Events’ pop-up from the menu on your device.
Six Brand New Events
With ongoing events, we’ve not only reclassified some existing events, but we’re introducing six brand new events too! This brings the number of events in Paper Pirates - not including events only available through seasonal celebrations - up to forty-two!

Five of these are new ongoing events, and one of them is a regular event, but they’re all aimed at switching up the way you play! From Seeing Red, which prevents pirates from skipping their vote until someone is voted overboard, to Captain’s Fortune, which gives the captain three job choices at the start of each day instead of two until a job is successful, we’re sure these new events will mix up your games and add new strategies!
Ten New Achievements
With new events, once again comes a bumper crop of new achievements - and as always, each new achievement comes with a new hat, which you can unlock as soon as you earn the achievement. If you want to be the most fashionable pirate on the seven seas, track down any of the ten new achievements as quickly as you can, and try out the new hats before the rest of yer crew!
Play Dress-up in Paper Pirates!
Sam Sherbot has been visiting many far off regions collecting the very best top pirate fashions from all over the world for sale in the Outfit Shop, all ready for you to play dress-up! They’ve brought back over 40 new items for you to spend your hard-earned pieces of eight on, many of which make perfectly coordinated outfit sets! Make sure that after playing a game or completing a bounty you check out the Outfit Shop to see what new things you can buy! If you’ve got one piece of a set, don’t forget to play more games so that you can get the other pieces - it would be a crime to miss out!
The ‘Fastest First Foot’ Event!
Go on a sailing adventure during Soggy Hogmanay, and each day there is a chance you may encounter the ‘Fastest First Foot’ event, inspired by the Hogmanay tradition of First Footing. As the crew return from an adventure on a deserted treasure island, they race to see who has the honour of first footing the pirate ship. Those pirates who make it back first are granted good fortune for the coming voyage - and will be given a higher rank on the ship accordingly! Have your devices at the ready and press a button as soon as it appears, and any pirate has the chance of seizing the rank of captain!
Resolution Bounty
To help ring in the New Year, and start as you mean to go on, the bounty board is offering you a New Year’s Resolution Bounty! Throughout the duration of Soggy Hogmanay, you will have one giant bounty to complete! If you complete that one bounty over the course of the two-week celebration, you will receive a truly staggering number of coins in celebration and you’ll be well on the way to a prosperous 2021. It’s just too good to miss!
Hogmanay Celebrations in the Photo Booth
To celebrate the arrival of the new year, there are a small number of limited-time Foils and Backgrounds available in the Photo Booth, in the Captain’s Log. Take the opportunity to snap your favourite pirate templates, and share any pics you take!
Soggy Hogmanay Bots
They’ll only join your games during Soggy Hogmanay, but these bots have their own personalities and appearances for you to enjoy.

Bounties Update
Complete Bounties to Earn Coins!
Bounties add a whole new way for you to earn coins for the Outfit Shop while playing Paper Pirates! Check the Bounty Board from the title screen, and you’ll see the bounties you currently have active. Complete bounties - such as Play 3 Scored Games - during your Paper Pirates adventures, and next time you check the bounty board, you’ll earn the listed coin reward! For every bounty you complete, you get another, so keep completing bounties, and you can really build your booty stores!

Got a bounty you don’t think you’ll complete? Once per day, you can remove a bounty from the board, and will immediately be offered a new one! There’s a huge range of different bounties, that will encourage you to play Paper Pirates in different ways. Happy coin hunting, pirates!
It’s the Captain’s Choice now!
When playing Custom Games, don’t forget that the Events tab lets you change how the events in your game are selected. We’re adding to the modes, by introducing “Captain’s Choice”, to complement Random events and Crew’s Choice events.

When playing with your event selection set to Captain’s Choice, each day an event would occur, the Captain is offered a choice of three events. Can you trust your Captain to share the event selection with the crew? Do you like the events they’re picking? With the Captain holding so much power over the ship, make sure you can trust them, and be ready to throw them overboard at the first sign of suspicion!

If you’re playing with an audience, the Captain can decline to choose for the day, trusting in fate, and choosing the event the audience picked instead. The Captain doesn’t know what event the audience has picked before choosing it, so it’s a surprise even to them! Will the audience wildcard help or hinder the crew?
A Few Other Things
• Pirates connecting to the lobby of a game that requires players to login with Twitch will now be shown a pop-up encouraging them to login with Twitch to play.
 • The Outfit Shop interface has been given a minor facelift to make it easier to see which categories are sold out, and which have limited-time items left to purchase.
 • Sam Sherbot has a small number of new items in stock in the Outfit Shop!
Bug Fixes
• The ‘Found Stowaway’ event is now called ‘Found Stowaway’ throughout all the text in game
 • Fixed a typographical error in the Wasp Nest event text
Snowball Fight!
Go on a sailing adventure during Yule Tides, and each day there is a chance it may begin to snow giving the crew the opportunity to partake in a little festive fun - a traditional snowball fight! When Snowball Fight is triggered, each member of the crew must choose who to pelt with a snowball. The pirate who receives the most snowballs will be thrown overboard! Who will you throw your snowball at? When they go overboard, if they’re a human, one of the people who threw the snowball will become a ghost… so choose wisely!
Naughty or Nice?
During your Yule Tides sailing adventures, you may encounter the ‘Naughty or Nice’ event during the event phase of the game. In ‘Naughty or Nice’, one member of the crew must offer a gift to another. Question is - has the receiver been naughty, or nice? The present-giver must decide, with a host of fun positive outcomes for nice, and some meaner tricks for naughty. When the receiver is given the gift, they can choose whether to open it, or discard it. Do you think your crewmate has sent you something nice, or are they a ghost, hoping to catch you out? That’s all part of festive deception!
Advent Bounties
In the countdown to Christmas, the bounty board is celebrating each and every day that passes! Each day from the 1st-24th December, you’ll receive a special Advent Bounty, with a challenge for you to complete worth a bumper crop of coins!
