History and Mystery Update

Recap your voyage in more detail with the History and Mystery Update!

Jump aboard Paper Pirates to explore the History and Mystery Update, featuring a refreshed game history feature, two new traits, a new event, and more!
New and Improved Game History
Our end-of-game recap screen, the Game History, was built for a simpler time when pirates didn't have things like traits. Although it's grown with us over time, it was starting to fall behind in providing a transparent recap of everything that happened in the game. So, we rebuilt it!

The new Game History includes more precise details, such as letting you know who voted for a Mutiny, as well as better handling of trait-influenced team changes and clearer indicators of when team changes happen.

Each day, you can review the job and who played in, see a summary of the events that took place, and check the outcome of voting. If you want to dig a little deeper, the details panel on the right will walk you through the day in detail.

You can also check who voted for who, who became a ghost, and what the probabilities were, in the Voting Chart!

Last but not least, there's a bigger, bolder, and better final page in the Game History that more clearly indicates who on the crew were on the winning team. Open up the chart here and you can see exactly how your game played out over time!

We love the new Game History and hope that it will help you better dissect your games. This was a huge project given the variety of voyages, and there might be the odd event or outcome that's missing text. We'll be keeping our eye out and patching these up as we go!
New Trait: The Silent
One of two new traits for the History and Mystery Update is The Silent!

The Silent's votes are always secret. That means it will always appear as if they passed their vote, even if they didn't. Should The Silent cast enough votes to throw someone overboard, the voting will still end immediately. If you're The Silent and want to stay hidden, make sure you're casting votes where you won't be exposed.

And if you're not The Silent? Be wary. Joke votes sink boats! And with The Silent on board, you can never know exactly who might have been ghosted when a human goes overboard...
New Trait: The Gambler
Another new trait for the History and Mystery Update is The Gambler!

On days when they don't play in, The Gambler is offered two events. One of these will have a high chance of happening, and one of them will have a low chance of happening. Whether The Gambler is a ghost or a human, the high-chance event will normally be good for their team, while the low-chance event will be bad for their team.

Are you willing to take a risk on a good event knowing what bad things might happen? Can you get away with risking it all and claiming that your events were the other way round?

Whether on the ghost team or the human team, The Gambler is sure to have you questioning whether you feel lucky!
New Event: Counting the Treasure
Our new event for the History and Mystery update is Counting the Treasure!

In a Counting the Treasure event, one pirate will be randomly selected to take on responsibility for counting the treasure. But never fear, they'll have help from three other pirates! Those three pirates will all see a number of coins on their device: Either 1, 2, or 3 coins. Their job is to tell the counting pirate how many coins they can see, so the counting pirate can add them up and report the total on their device.

If you count correctly - amazing! The crew get another treasure! However, if you get it wrong, in the confusion it seems one of your current treasure will be whisked away before you can know it.

How much do you trust the three pirates chosen to help count the treasure? If it all goes wrong, who will you blame...?

Announcing An Elaborate History of Chess!

We are thrilled to announce the next game from Iteration Games, An Elaborate History of Chess!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

An Elaborate History of Chess is a blend of real-time and turn-based strategy, exploring the history of the popular board game, Chess. Start with just one lowly pawn to begin building your village, and work your way up to an entire kingdom. Keep your farms running like clockwork to ensure a food supply for your pieces, and see how far you can spread your influence.

As your kingdom flourishes, you'll attract all sorts of wildlife and monsters looking to checkmate your best warriors and take your wheat for themselves. Don't forget to build your defences, set up your supply chains, and of course, protect the king!

When you're feeling brave it's time to turn your attention to the dungeons. You'll need to prepare an adventuring party ready to face the horrors and puzzles that lie in wait in the time-frozen dungeons, where you'll need to show your mastery of chess strategy to overcome the myriad challenges that lie await and steal the very best treasures.

Do you have what it takes to become grandmaster of all you see, or will you find your best gambits just don't pay off?

You can wishlist An Elaborate History of Chess on Steam now:

Across March and April, we’re celebrating with the Paper Pirates Seasonal Celebration, Spring Sailing! Running from 15th March - 12th April, celebrate the season of spring with a festival of eggs, bunnies, and a whole host of seasonal goodies in Paper Pirates!
Seasonal Trait: The Spring Chicken
Joining Paper Pirates for the duration of Spring Sailing is the seasonal trait, The Spring Chicken! Play a trait game, and one of the crew may find themselves with this happy-go-lucky, seasonal appropriate trait.

Each day, when The Spring Chicken is not the Captain, they will spring forward one rank of the crew at the start of the event phase! This happens even if there's no other event taking place! What seems like a blessing may be a curse - watch out if you're a ghostly Spring Chicken and you're almost next to The Sensitive...
The Grand Spring Egg Hunt
Every day during Spring Sailing the crew will be challenged to an Egg Hunt by our very own Rabbot! They've hidden a number of eggs all throughout Paper Pirates for you to find - they could be in any of the menu screens, or even in-game! Find your quota each day, and you'll be able to open a special Spring Sailing surprise.

There's three outfits, two returning outfits and one brand new, for a combined total of sixteen items, to collect through The Grand Spring Egg Hunt. Make sure to check for eggs every day, and get ready to dress up!
Limited Time Costumes
During Spring Sailing, Sam Sherbot and Nat O'Bother have some new customisation options available to unlock in the Shop Ship! If you buy a customisation option during Spring Sailing, you can use it all year round - but the items will be disappearing from sale when the event is over, so don’t delay and buy today!
The “Lucky Egg Hunt” Event!
Go on a sailing adventure during Spring Sailing, and each day there is a chance you may encounter the “Lucky Egg Hunt” event. A random member of the crew gets to pick one egg out of a selection. The eggs all contain events, and whichever egg they choose will instantly trigger that event! All the other pirates on the boat will get a clue, showing them a picture of an egg, and a description of the event that will happen. Make sure you communicate to the egg hunter to let them know what might happen for each egg - but watch out for the ghosts, who might give you a bad description, or tell you fibs about the event squirreled away inside!
Spring Celebrations in the Photo Booth
To celebrate Spring Sailing, there are two limited-time Foils available in the Photo Booth, in the Captain’s Log. Take the opportunity to snap your favourite pirate templates, and share any pics you take!
Spring Sailing Bot
Invite bots into your game during Spring Sailing, and you may encounter Rabbot - our very own pirate-y Easter Bunny, out to help you uncover eggs at sea! Rabbot will only join your games during Spring Sailing, so take the chance to meet them now before they hop away to hibernate for the rest of the year!

All Together Update

Set Sail with Random Players with the All Together Update!

Jump aboard Paper Pirates to explore the All Together Update, featuring a new trait, public listing for games and more!
Public Games
When creating a Paper Pirates lobby, you now have the option of advertising your game publicly. Tick the "Public Games" tick box from the game customisation screen, and your lobby will be advertised for anyone to join via Spectator mode. Players joining public games will still have to join via a web browser on a connected device, but public games offer a way to recruit a crew even when playing solo!

Remember, you can always mute or kick a pirate who joins your game and misbehaves to stop them contributing to the game any further. To do so, just click on a pirate in-game and choose the mute or kick option as appropriate. You can even do this from a lobby!

If you're looking to find more pirates to join your games, you're always welcome to join the Paper Pirates Discord server where you can advertise your games for anyone to join.
Mid-Game Spectating
To enhance the spectating experience, we've tightened up a few screws and enabled spectating mid-game. Whenever you join, you will have to wait for the start of the next day, but then your spectated game will be perfectly in sync with the host! You'll still get all the coins for the whole voyage, but note that your Round History will only display days for which you were already spectating.
New Trait: The Legion
Our new trait for the All Together Update is The Legion!

The Legion is a trait that is always assigned to a ghost at the start of a game, just like The Tainted. Whenever the Legion would become a ghost while a ghost, an extra ghost joins their collection. If they would become a human, one of the ghosts leaves their collection, but they remain a ghost. The only way to cleanse The Legion and return them to humanity is to clear their entire ghost collection!

The Legion always starts the game with one extra ghost in their collection, so at the very least you'll need to get them overboard twice, or give them two exorcisms, before they turn human. Never trust when you think someone is a human, because they could be The Legion!
New Trait: The Sleuth
As a reward for finding clues during Steam Mystery Fest, the collective efforts of pirates across the entire ocean unlocked a new Trait, The Sleuth! Although The Sleuth has been in the game for a few weeks now, we haven't formally introduced them!

The Sleuth has the power to investigate a pirate to see whether they have ever disobeyed at any point in the voyage so far. They won't know when they disobeyed, but this is still a very useful ability! In order to investigate a pirate, The Sleuth must use up a lead. Leads are earned every day that there are at least two disobeys in a job - so the more ghosts you have, the more likely your Sleuth is to find leads!

Additionally, The Sleuth always starts the game with one lead, so even if the ghosts are being on their best behaviour, they might not be able to hide from The Sleuth for long!
New Event: Disagreement
During a Disagreement event, two pirates from the centre of the ship have a falling out and decide to move away from each other. Each pirate will move as far away as they can, taking on the ranks of second-in-command and Cabin Boy.
New Event: Crew's Revenge
During a Crew's Revenge event, the entire crew will have the opportunity to take revenge on the most bloodthirsty pirate. If you've successfully thrown the most pirates overboard, you might find yourself facing a very angry crew!

The Crew's Revenge event works like the Mutiny event, so if more than half of the crew vote to take revenge, the bloodthirstiest pirate will get thrown overboard. If they were a human, then any of the pirates that agreed to get revenge could become a ghost!
