Species Field Guide - Kronosaurus

Welcome back, Park Managers, to our latest Species Field Guide!

In this series of articles, we've been spotlighting and discussing some of the incredible dinosaurs and reptiles you're able to care for and bioengineer in Jurassic World Evolution 2, including both new and familiar faces, and we're incredibly excited to be able to continue highlighting them!

Today we're introducing you to a new addition from our upcoming Early Cretaceous Pack: Kronosaurus!

Named after the Greek Titan, Kronos (also known as Cronus), Kronosaurus was, fittingly, one of the largest pliosaurs It had an elongated head, short neck, and stiff body, which was propelled by four flippers, making it a relatively agile predator.

Interestingly, despite Kronosaurus' impressive size, its teeth were surprisingly blunt, lacking the sharpness commonly associated with the largest marine predators, and is thought to have made up for this bluntness with an impressive jaw strength and agility.

Kronosaurus isn't a particularly sociable reptile, so you don't have to worry about keeping too many together in your lagoons - just make sure you have plenty of open space, and a well-stocked Shark Feeder to keep them happy!

We're so pleased to have been able to share this new addition from the Early Cretaceous DLC with you! Kronosaurus is an incredibly interesting marine reptile that we're sure will be a welcome addition to your parks. Will you be bioengineering them for yours? Let us know in the comments, below!

Jurassic World Evolution 2's first free update adds new sandbox maps and balance changes

Jurassic World Evolution 2 has been letting players construct dinosaur parks since early November, and now that the one-month launch anniversary is upon us, it's time for more. The devs have revealed some details on both the first major update and the first paid DLC pack, both of which should bring some new life to your future park constructions.

Update 1 launches on December 9, and introduces a host of new levels for sandbox mode. Five will come from the campaign, alongside a flattened sandbox level that starts with zero topography or forrestation. You can then alter the landscape however you like. The update also introduces a full set of Department of Fish and Wildlife buildings for sandbox, as well as some new Jurassic Park themed lagoons and aviaries.

We're also getting balance changes, and while the devs haven't provided full patch notes yet, they have provided some preliminary info on the changes in the announcement. "The frequency of storms and disease outbreaks in Chaos Theory should be less frequent after this patch, as should disease outbreaks in Easy and Medium difficulty Challenge levels. We've also made some tweaks to the Dominance stat, which should cut down on dinosaur fights, as well as decreased the likelihood of dinosaur fights causing injuries. Finally, we've rebalanced the combat stats of dinosaurs that can be involved in group hunts."

If you find yourself in Hyde Park in London on 8 and 9 December, you can see the Kronosaurus come to life over the Serpentine during the evening, after sunset.

Releasing alongside the Early Cretaceous Pack is free Update 1! The Jurassic World Evolution 2 team has been hard at work making this world evolved even bigger than before. Update 1 will introduce more playable maps, more building sets, rock perch points for flying reptiles, and several other quality of life changes. and bug fixes. Read on to learn more:

DFW/JP Building Sets
Buildings and fences from the Department of Fish and Wildlife will be available in Sandbox Mode starting from 9 December. If you enjoyed the campaign mode and wanted to continue building using the DFW's building set, you'll be able to use them very soon. Update 1 includes a full set of DFW buildings, from Restrooms and Lagoons, to Hotels and Viewing Platforms. We're also releasing additional Jurassic Park themed buildings, specifically Lagoons and Aviaries, so you can have marine and flying reptiles in your Jurassic Park era Sandbox.

Campaign Sandbox Levels
After Update 1 you can use the five campaign maps in Sandbox Mode. Revisit the Arizona desert, the Washington State mountains, the Pennsylvania airport, the forests of Oregon, and Yosemite National park in Sandbox and create some amazing dinosaur parks or facilities. We can't wait to see what you build in these locations. Which map will you build on first?

Flattened Sandbox Levels
Do you prefer to start with a blank slate in Sandbox Mode? After Update 1 you can! When you start up Sandbox Mode you will now have the option to start with a completely flat, tree-less version of any map. You can then modify the map topography and flora as you wish!

Rock Perch Points
Flying reptiles can now perch on rocks placed inside an Aviary, letting you and your guests appreciate their majesty when they rest between flights.

Balance Changes
We've done a few changes to game balancing based on some of your feedback. The frequency of storms and disease outbreaks in Chaos Theory should be less frequent after this patch, as should disease outbreaks in Easy and Medium difficulty Challenge levels. We've also made some tweaks to the Dominance stat, which should cut down on dinosaur fights, as well as decreased the likelihood of dinosaur fights causing injuries. Finally, we've rebalanced the combat stats of dinosaurs that can be involved in group hunts.

Accessibility Additions
Update 1 also comes with several accessibility additions. We've added in different subtitle colours for each speaker, an adjustable autosave frequency, and the game can be paused during cutscenes.
The DLC and free Update 1 will release on 9 December at 14:00 GMT, or at the following times in the time zones listed below:
  • 15:00 CET
  • 09:00 EST
  • 06:00 PST
  • 01:00 AET (on 10 December)

Watch the cast of Ice Age kill or be killed in this Jurassic World Evolution 2 mod

Frontier's latest management game Jurassic World Evolution 2 has already been out for a few weeks and users are creating some truly wonderful mods for the dinosaur strategy title. However, this new mod adds the cast of the animated Ice Age movies to Jurassic World Evolution 2, and it's both lovable and massively horrifying.

There have been five Ice Age movies since 2002, but the rather simply-titled "Ice Age replacer mod" by NanoLancensis adds the core cast of the original movie to Jurassic World Evolution 2 in the form of replacements for various dinosaurs. Manny the mammoth replaces the Nasutoceratops, Diego the saber-toothed tiger replaces the Chungkingosaurus, Sid the sloth is the Homalocephale, and series mascot Scrat the squirrel-rat thing replaces the Compsognathus.

It'll certainly be a shock for anyone wanting early mammals like mammoths in the game and getting these wacky versions instead, as players have been hoping to see in a DLC pack based on the Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous animated series. It's a cartoon at least, we suppose.

These Jurassic World Evolution 2 mods let you build and terraform however you want

We get it - a management game like Jurassic World Evolution 2 needs to offer a challenge, and give you something to work toward by overcoming those challenges. The thing is, if we were into following the rules, we wouldn't be building a park full of carnivorous dinosaurs to begin with, right? So we found a couple of mods that remove the normal constraints on building you find by default in JWE2.

Both mods were created by Kaidenic, and together they open up your options without changing the core game. The first is Expanded Terrain Tools, which removes constraints on rock placement (you can plonk them down even if their ghost is red), and gives you a wider range of sizes for your terrain tool. The mod also adds an intensity slider, so you can set up a big brush that adds sparse trees, or a tiny brush that paints them in as densely as possible.

The mod also increases the maximum slope for your terrain, so you can make hillsides of up to 85 degrees. That could result in some unnatural looking landscapes, but hey, throw on some trees and nobody will notice.
