Backstreets update is on the Dev branch

Hello everyone! It’s been a bit more than a month since our Early Access launch and we've prepared our first big update: THE BACKSTREETS. But before putting it out to public branch we'd like to run additional testing. The Backstreets is available on our dev branch, simply go to your golden light settings>Beta tab and type in iwanttotestgl

Without further do, let’s hop on a list of what’s new in Golden Light:

  • New Environment – Backstreets: These narrow downtown-esque floors have squeezed between Cages and Cabin floors. Embrace the dark corridors of asphalt and concrete and find your way out!
  • 2 New Bosses: Backstreets and Cabin floors are now inhabited by two new dangerous foes. It’s unknown who are they exactly, but it’s a fact they crave the light you’re carrying. Find out for yourself if you can find them back.
  • New monsters: Backstreets are full of dangers, we’re not going to spoil it for you.
  • New weapon – Sewer Shield: This badass piece of a live manhole cover will decrease a % of damage taken from enemies, and it also packs a punch, but, it’s very slow, so calculate your attacks wisely!
  • Story bits: We’re starting to implement the story parts. This is why between floors you won’t experience any traditional loading screens, instead, you’ll be immediately sucked into a flashback of sorts, where you may discover something new about GL story.
  • MEATCH: Twitch integration: We’ve added a twitch integration to Golden Light for streamers to play with their viewers through an in-game poll. The poll results in a variety of effects that your viewers wanted you to experience the most. Some are good, some are very bad. They may heal you, repair your weapon, or spawn a gazzilion of eye takers! It’s up to them to decide.
  • Healing item consumption: Now every item, no matter the effect, heals you a bit. In combination with some new mementos – this could really improve your game and make it easier for you to reach the goal.
  • Glutton in the Field: You can now make the Eternal Field a home for Glutton and he’ll be able to sell you items before you descend into the Gut. We won’t tell you how, though
  • New achievements: When there’s new content, there’re also new steam achievements! Some may be a bit weird, but that’s how you like it if you dive into Golden Light, don’t you?
  • Balancing and fixes: A process of fixin bugs and making the game more balanced never stops. Let us know how you feel about Backstreets and Cabin floors and we’ll try to hit the mark difficulty wise for everyone.



After some time we'll launch this update to public branch with any additional content or fixes we come up with in the meantime. So be sure to let us know what you think about it on steam discussion forums!

Our next steps in Early Access will be:
  • We’ll continue to work on the game’s story and hope to include a “finale” in the next update, so your playthrough will finally have a definitive “end”, after which you’ll be able to continue re-playing Golden Light.
  • Italian and Portuguese BR: We’ll soon implement Italian and PTBR languages into the game. Some parts of the game still may be untranslated due to the nature of Early Access, but we’ll continue to update the translation while our community contributors try to keep up with our additions into the game.
  • Leaderboards for those who crave a competitive element.
