Breaking Gates Update 1.2: Equipment Improvements

[p]Hey everyone![/p][p]We’re dropping a quick update for Breaking Gates![/p][p]This version brings several balance improvements and some exciting additions to the equipment system.[/p][p]Big thanks to everyone who keeps sending us feedback and suggestions! ❤️[/p][p]

[/p]
Equipment Transcendence
[p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]We’ve designed a new system for players who already have lots of resources or duplicate equipment.
Now you can dismantle equipment to obtain a new resource and raise the rank of your favorite gear beyond its normal limits![/p][p]This new feature gives you more freedom to power up your favorite weapons and accessories without replacing them — creating a better resource recycling loop within the game.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]🔹 How It Works:[/p]
  • [p]When dismantling equipment, you’ll now receive Raw Essence, a new resource that appears in your inventory.
Every time you destroy an item, the amount of Raw Essence obtained will be displayed.[/p][p][/p]
  • [p]Raw Essence can be used at Helga’s forge to craft a new legendary material called the Transcendent Metal.[/p][p][/p]
  • [p]Each Transcendent Metal is used to raise the rank of an equipment through the enhancement menu.[/p]
  • [p]To increase your equipment’s rank, open the enhancement menu and select the new “Rank Up” option.[/p]
  • [p]Dismantled equipment will yield more Raw Essence depending on its rank.[/p][p][/p]
  • [p]Raising the rank increases the equipment’s stats and, at certain levels, grants additional emblem slots (up to a maximum of 4).[/p]

⚙️ Adjustments & Improvements
• [p]The number of Mastery Points gained per level has been increased to 2, allowing players to reach the max level for equipment more easily.[/p]
  • [p]Equipment and emblems now go up to Rank 6 - Supreme Rank.[/p]
  • [p]Item chest capacity increased from 126 to 252 slots.[/p]
  • [p]Extra potions can now be obtained by speaking to Juan for the first time at the beginning of the game.[/p]
  • [p]Destroying other types of items has increased the amount of crystals received.[/p]
  • [p]Various minor fixes and adjustments applied.[/p]

[p]💬 We’ll keep listening to your feedback — your support keeps the project alive!
Thank you for playing, and see you in the next update!

Breaking Gates Update and Improvements for Version 1.2

[p]Greetings, little guy who lives right over there! We're back with fresh news! Development continues steadily and full of energy, and today we bring you another update for you to try out in early access.
[/p][p]This is another step towards the final version, and we really want to hear your feedback. Every comment, every gameplay, and every livestream you do helps us improve the game even further. You're an essential part of this journey, and it's thanks to your support that we keep moving forward.
[/p][p]Before we show you what's coming next, we'd like to say thank you ❤️
[/p]
Trading materials
[p]A new NPC is now available on the map! Meet Bico, the traveling merchant! A wanderer from distant desert lands who, from time to time, appears bringing materials to trade.
[/p][p]With him, the logic is simple: direct exchange, one item for another. Just choose the most interesting trade, and that's it! The shop's stock will replenish whenever you die or return to camp, bringing new opportunities.
[/p][p]Besides selling emblems, Bico also offers exclusive materials, essential for forging certain equipment.[/p][p] [/p]
New Equipment
[p][/p][p]Three new swords and one new accessory have been added to the game. Two of the swords will be crafted at Helga's forge from previously unused materials.[/p][p][/p][p]- Return Blade: This sword can be found in common chests or by defeating enemies. It allows you to perform a mid-range attack by throwing the sword.[/p][p][/p][p]- Jaw Blade: A sword that fires a barrage of sharp teeth at enemies. It's crafted from materials found among the game's aquatic enemies, such as piranhas and electric fish.[/p][p][/p][p]- King of the Deep: This sword emits a wave of lightning that paralyzes surrounding enemies. It can also be forged at the camp and requires materials from the game's aquatic enemies.[/p][p][/p][p]- Equivalent Exchange: A ring that can be crafted at Helga's forge using only materials exchanged with the NPC Beak. It can double your damage, but you take more damage from enemies. [/p][p] [/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Adjustments and Improvements
  • [p]Equipment and Items[/p]
    • [p]Fixed bug where the passive skill "Safety First" at max level of the Gas Mask helmet, caused damage to the player when being poisoned.[/p]
    • [p]Modified some basic attributes of certain equipment to improve game balance.[/p]
    • [p]Fixed an issue where bees summoned by the Royal Buzzer sword's "Avenging Swarm" ability would have incorrect textures and remain alive after loading a save.[/p]
    • [p]Adjusted the Vinesword's Forest Absorption skill so it now properly heals for the correct percentage of the gear's upgrade level.[/p]
    • [p]Two new consumable items have been added to common chests and breakable items. They have a higher chance of appearing on the Allira Forest map. River Grapes heal some of your HP. Blue Mist Fruit increases your SP by +15. [/p]
  • [p]Translations[/p]
    • [p]Fixed item description text that was missing translations.[/p]
    • [p]Adjusted some terms and phrases with attack and skill names.[/p]
  • [p]Exploration[/p]
    • [p]Adjustments to the oxygen bar in the underwater sections, giving the player a little more time to breathe.[/p]
    • [p]Improvements to some sections and the addition of another fast travel portal to the Allira Forest map.[/p]
  • [p]Fight[/p]
    • [p]Changes to the Regeneration attribute:[/p][p]Previously: This attribute only increased the effectiveness of healing items and abilities, providing a percentage bonus based on the Regeneration value.[/p][p]Now: Regeneration works differently. Whenever you take damage, after a few seconds without being hit, your health will gradually begin to recover. The higher the Regeneration value, the faster and more efficient this process will be.

You can only increase the Regeneration attribute by equipping emblems on your gear.
      [/p]
    • [p]It is now possible to change the direction of strong attacks.[/p]
    • [p]Added attack canceling when jumping or dashing.[/p]
    • [p]The activation animation speed of sword special attacks has been increased, making them more agile.[/p]
    • [p]Fixed situation where the Electric Fish enemy would get stuck on the edge of the screen in the crystal fight.[/p]
    • [p]Adjusted the enemy Strong Panpaku's special attack where it would occasionally hitkill the player.[/p]
    • [p]Fixed situation where bees would stop following the player right after he got out of the water[/p]
    • [p]It is now possible to deflect boss Allira's energy spheres with your attack.[/p]
  • [p]Menus and interface[/p]
    • [p]Fixed an issue where the inventory menu could be opened within the cutscene after completing the Ancient Gates challenge.[/p]
    • [p]Fixed situation where the gallery button did not open.[/p]
    • [p]Added button to organize items by category in inventory and item chest.[/p]
    • [p]Added button to quickly deposit all items into the chest.[/p]
  • [p]Items and fabrications[/p]
    • [p]SP potions now only appear in Juan's shop after purchasing a special skill.[/p]
    • [p]All healing items have now been scaled by percentage, receiving a significant increase in their effectiveness.[/p]
    • [p]All crafting manuals and hunt rewards have been adjusted to improve balance.[/p]
    • [p]Fixed an issue where it was not possible to select the concentrated blue potion in Juan's potion shop.[/p]
    [p] [/p]
    • [p]Various minor fixes and additional tweaks.[/p]
[p] [/p][p][/p]
Final Considerations
[p][/p][p]Well, I think that's it. We'll be analyzing more things throughout the week and perhaps making some more adjustments. We're still planning more mechanics for equipment and items, as well as several improvements and new content.
[/p][p]It's a difficult game to balance, but remember that we're not alone. We have the support of all the players and also of our beloved publisher, who, in addition to providing publishing support, helps us with tips and support in various areas of development.
[/p][p]This is another step towards the final version! Keep sending us feedback, because every suggestion helps make the game even better. Thank you so much for being part of this journey with us, and see you in the next update![/p]

Breaking Gates Update 1.2 Preview

[p]Hello adventurer reader!

It's been a while since we last talked, but I'm still here, going strong and steadily developing. Today, I’m excited to announce a new update coming to Early Access! Actually, this is a preview of Update 1.2, which we’re planning to launch at the end of the year. Since we’re still in Early Access, it makes more sense to release new features gradually and gather feedback from players before the final version.

So feel free to jump in and enjoy! Before we dive into the news, I want to extend a massive thank you to each one of you. The journey of Breaking Gates is driven by the passion and dedication of our community. It's inspiring to see you all playing, creating content, and streaming! This support has been fundamental in guiding the development. And of course, a special thanks to Nuntius, our publisher, who made this comeback and update possible.

Alright, let’s not take up too much of your time — let’s check out the changes!

[/p]
A New Perspective! New Character Illustrations!
[p]

Our amazing illustrator Pedro Vieira brought the idea of modernizing the characters' visuals to give the game a more commercial and updated look. Since we’re bringing the game to more platforms and reaching a wider audience, it made sense to me. So in addition to new illustrations and promotional art, he also redesigned all the dialogue images, giving the game a much more professional feel. Here's a preview of our protagonist:

[/p]
Character Art – Hako
[p][/p]
Character Art for Dialogue Scenes
[p][/p]
New Gallery Menu
[p]You can now view all these new illustrations in the registry menu under the character information section.

[/p]
The New Adventure Log!
[p] We now have an Adventure Log menu! A place with background info on characters and details about enemies. As you play, new entries will appear in the log. Our plan is to expand the Adventure Log with item information, universe trivia, and much more — turning it into a sort of in-game guide. Of course, I’m not sure if everything will be possible, but this is a solid start! Even if it doesn’t affect gameplay directly, I think it’s fun to have this kind of writing. Oh, and we’ve tied some new achievements to it too, for those who take a peek.
[/p]

A Visual Polish!
[p]
One of the changes in version 1.2 was the remastering of all textures to better fit larger screens. While Breaking Gates has a charming style, we hadn’t anticipated the need for this adjustment. Nowadays, modern consoles support much higher resolutions, and our little game didn’t scale well, looking blurry on big screens. Here’s how the game looked on a 4K display:
[/p]
Before
[p]

It was clear that it wasn’t working — the character looked huge, the UI was oversized. The game was originally made for small screens and mobile devices (I can’t deny my roots… it was what I could do at the time on my tiny Samsung A10 with 2GB of RAM!).[/p]
After
[p]

After some research, we found out that for a game to look good on large screens, it needs to have around one million pixels — and ours had less than seven hundred thousand. So we took a step back before adding new content and worked on remastering all textures for better clarity. There's still work to do, and some menus are still being adjusted. Not all textures adapted well, so we had to remake and even create new ones. Many original assets were lost over time. With future updates, we’ll keep improving things. But now, the UI is cleaner, and the proportions feel more natural on modern screens.[/p][p]
[/p]
Combat Improvements
[p]
I've always loved 2D combat games — I have so many in mind I can't even name them all! I used to have this design philosophy: “If you can do it to the enemy, the enemy can do it to you!” It led to some hilarious — and frustrating — moments.

Just like you could beat enemies into the corner, they could do the same to you — even kicking you while you were knocked down! That, my friends… is life! Anyway, despite criticism, I still consider that part of the game’s essence.

That said, we toned it down a bit. We’ve added a new enemy damage control system that tries to “save” you when possible. It works smartly, monitoring your HP and gradually scaling down enemy damage. This idea is borrowed from a fighting game mechanic! Of course, it won’t save you every time — some enemies have nasty moves that bypass the system… These creatures are ruthless and seem to have a mind of their own!

[/p]
Dodge Dash with Invincibility!
[p]One thing that was missing — and has now been added — is a brief moment of invincibility during dashes. You can now truly dodge enemy attacks. I made it subtle — not too easy or too hard — but it might save you in the right moment.

[/p]
Combo Counter
[p]The combo counter is back! It now boosts your Super Energy — the higher your combo, the more energy you gain!

[/p][p]

[/p]
New Items
[p]
[/p]
Forge Shop
[p]- Added "Royal Zumbidora Sword" to Helga’s Forge Shop – Summons bees that chase and sting nearby enemies.

Added "Wind Sword" to Helga’s Forge Shop – Creates a powerful gust of wind that launches enemies into the air.

New Helmet "Forest Ruler" in Helga’s Forge Shop – Recovers a percentage of your health when falling into an abyss.

New Helmet "Gale Helm" in Helga’s Forge Shop – If equipped with the Wind Sword, boosts its ability with bonus damage.

[/p]
Potion Shop
[p]- New Barrier Potions added to Juan’s Potion Shop.

New SP Recovery Potions added to Juan’s Potion Shop.

[/p]
New Drop Items
[p]- New Helmet "Stylish Glasses" – Increases skill cooldown recovery percentage.

New Sword "Panpaku Blade" – Temporarily transforms you into one of the enemies.

New Accessory "Warrior Master's Book" – Increases gained experience.

[/p]
Fixes and Other Adjustments
Interface
[p][/p][p]Added attribute descriptions in the Status Menu[/p][p][/p][p]Increased inventory space[/p][p][/p][p]Fixed crash when opening pause menu[/p][p][/p][p]Modified some terms and labels for better clarity[/p][p][/p]
Environment
[p][/p][p]Removed abyss pits in the water section of Allira Forest[/p][p][/p][p]Added support platforms in some Allira Forest areas[/p][p][/p][p]Added activation crystals to the Ancestral Gates (Still improving this!)[/p][p][/p][p]Collision improvements and adjustments[/p][p][/p][p]Fixed items and crystals sticking to ceilings![/p][p][/p][p]Removed some enemies from certain map areas to improve level flow[/p][p][/p][p] [/p]
Combat
[p][/p][p]Improved hitboxes on several attacks[/p][p][/p][p]"Celestial Charge" ability now keeps the player airborne[/p][p][/p][p]Fixed bug where enemies became invincible[/p][p]
More collision improvements

To be continued...[/p][p][/p]

New content coming!!!

Hello adventurers!
Get ready, something special is coming to Breaking Gates!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1248550/Breaking_Gates

What happened?

We know it's been a while since the last update, since version 1.1 the game has gone through several difficulties. We are a small team of independent developers from Brazil, and everything is extremely difficult for us.

But thanks to the emergence of Nuntius Games, a Brazilian publisher that believed in our project, we can finally share that the development of Breaking Gates is back, now to finish the game completely. Nuntius will not only publish the game, but has also welcomed us with supervision, content curation and development support.

It's a strong and very competent team that brings together several veterans and experts from our country. It's worth checking out all the games from this wonderful publisher! We're aware that we need to improve some aspects of our game and they're giving us all the guidance we need! Now... let me open my folder and show you a few things:

Finally, another area! Salamar Desert.

We had planned this desert for a while and were finalizing a lot of things, but we never managed to bring it to the game. This happened for several reasons: we lost files, our HD burned out, and we didn't have enough time to dedicate to development.

Speaking a little about this new area, the Salamar Desert will be a more hostile and desolate region with a strong storm area that will hinder the player, as well as underground areas with scalding lava to fry you if you miss a jump!

New area, new enemies, we will include some new enemies too, from lizard warriors to temperamental cacti that will throw thorns at you!
New enemies arriving:

A new guardian to face, meet Sarvok of the sharp feathers!
Of course, there could not be a master enemy to challenge you! This time our little recruit will have to prove his courage, facing Sarvok armed with his powerful giant feather sword! A weapon that despite its appearance can cut through even the toughest of enemies! We are in the production and final art stage and we can show you a little bit of the process:

What are we doing?

Currently, thanks to all the support from players with ideas and suggestions, in addition to the support and guidance from Nuntius, we are producing new areas, items, enemies and gameplay improvements! These changes we are making are aimed at the final release, including for the console version too!
  • New functions for inventory, warehouse and item manufacturing menus;
  • Combat and item generation balancing;
  • New hunting missions, new rewards and extra challenges on the map;
  • A new batch of unique equipment with skills and bonuses for the character;
  • Graphic improvements, resolution and texture adjustments;
Ok, that's all very nice, but what about it? When will this new content be released?
Well, if you're still reading this, it's because you really like the game! We have two predictions here, to be honest, October or early next year! Of course, this is an estimate, remember we're just four people and a dream! This is our first little game and we've been through a lot of problems! But if you're interested in all this, don't forget to add Breaking Gates to your wishlist and follow us on social media to stay up to date. And of course, share your thoughts with us, every piece of feedback is one more step towards making the game even better! If you can follow Nuntius Games and find out about other amazing games, we would be very grateful!

I want to thank everyone who has been waiting for us all this time and who has helped us with many tips and suggestions! I apologize to everyone for the delay, but I believe you understand that despite everything we are still trying! ....ok, time to get back to work... I've already written too much here and my coffee has gone cold! Stay tuned and thank you all very much!

[Hotfixes 2024 – Version 1.1.49]

We continue to make adjustments to improve game progression. This includes things like damage adjustments, drop rate improvements for important items. Corrections and improvements in translations, compatibility for controls, bug fixes and performance improvements. I want to say a big thank you for all the tips and suggestions from everyone, thank you very much =D
