Destiny of the World News

Early Access Release #13 (Version: 0.9.8050.29748)

New Functionality:

  • Added the Tutorial to the game. The tutorial consists of three videos. The first tutorial video covers the Game Overview, Movement, and Combat. The second video covers both types of Production: Manual and Production Manager. The third video covers Research, Trade and Espionage.
  • Added button for the Production Summary Screen to Production Manager Screen.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed bug where naval units in conquered region weren't retreating.
  • Fixed bug where trade partner resource lists weren't correctly enabled/disabled for oil, supply and fuel
  • Production manager was providing an inaccurate maximum build number in some instances. Items like Cash that are built in units of measure (millions, in the case of cash) require enough capacity to build at least 1 unit, or $1,0000,000 in the case of Cash. The maximum build number was including regions that could build a fraction of a unit in the totals, which inflated the maximum build quantity number. However, when the manager actually tried to fulfill this request, it could not find sufficient idle capacity, since it enforced the unit of measure minimum build requirement. This resulted a smaller quantity being produced than requested by the player.
  • Production manager was not enforcing maximum build quantity for some item types.
  • Production Manager Screen was returning to Production Screen after Save. Now returns back to Production Manager Screen after displaying confirmation message.
  • Production Manager didn't display messages for items deleted.

Changes:

This version makes a big change to the way the Production Manager works. The old Production Manager was designed to let you overproduce by automatically reducing Cash production, if necessary. This misled players to underappreciate the importance of Cash. This could lead to instability in the economy that would be more difficult to stabilize. Production Manager will no longer cancel production to satisfy new production.

Instead, it will only schedule using idle production. If you need more capacity, you will need to reduce production of other items manually, using the Production Manager. This is covered in the new tutorial.

To facilitate this, a link to the Production Summary screen has added to the Production Manager Screen. This will help you identify items you can cancel to free up capacity.

I believe these changes better meet the design goals of Production Manager, which is to let the player set production levels, and letting the computer schedule that production across your regions.

Early Access Release #12 (Version: 0.9.8025.17282)

New Functionality:

  • Added game option to show AI Battles in detail
  • Added game option to zoom out map during movement and battles. If you aren't familiar with the map, this can provide more context
  • Added game option to use slower animation of unit moves

Bug Fixes:

  • If you changed volume settings after saving a game, and later reloaded the game. Your updated option settings were being overwritten by the values in the saved game.
  • Game options can't be changed while you have an active game, if those options could change game rules (e.g., No Pearl Harbor)
  • Fixed bug causing paratroop battles to potentially trigger multiple times.
  • Fixed bug which prevented a neutral country from using Strategic Redeployment from a region bordering a combatant. Only combatants should be restricted from using Strategic Redeployment adjacent to enemy combatants.
  • Corrected German Synthetic Oil starting production capacity. It was 2000 tons lower than intended
  • Production manager wasn't enforcing production capacity limits for synthetic oil
  • The maximum quantity number shown for Nukes and Synthetic Oil on the Production Manager Screen was showing the theoretical maximum based on resources only. It should have been capped by the level of researched capacity.
  • Old messages not cleared when loading a saved game or starting a new game.

Tuning:

  • Changes to USSR AI to better balance East/West needs

Early Access Release #11a (Version: 0.9.8014.30505)

This is a small update to fix a critical bug which affected players playing as Italy, USA or USSR. These countries were not always transitioning to the Axis or Allies Factions properly when joining the war. This resulted in the countries not being fully controllable by the player.

Leaders - Early Access Release #11 (Version: 0.9.8013.20599)

*** Note: Because of new features, this version is NOT compatible with saves from Release #10 ***

Leaders

The main new feature in this update is the addition of named leaders. There are two types of Leaders: Generals and Admirals. Generals are assigned to individual armies, and Admirals are assigned to fleets. You have a limited number of leaders that can be assigned, so you should assign them where they can do the most impact.

Leaders have two tactical ratings (Attack/Defense) and one theater-wide rating (Strategy). The Attack/Defense bonus is applied whenever their assigned Army/Fleet is involved in combat.

The Strategy Rating is applied to all Armies/Fleets in a theater. The Admiral and General with the highest Strategy rating will always be used as the Theater Commander. (Note: The Theater Commander's Army/Fleet will also get their Attack/Defense bonuses when in combat)

During World War II, leaders were often assigned or dismissed from posts based on their success or failure in battle. A leader's ratings will increase, or decrease based on their performance in battle. So, take care where you assign your leaders. Giving them hopeless tasks where they are doomed to being defeated over and over will destroy their reputation (and ratings). But ratings can be slowly regained through continued success in battle.

You can read the full details in Chapter 24 of the latest Game Manual.

  • Added Delete Button to Load Game Screen
  • Updated Strategic Bombing animation to make it clearer which region is being bombed
  • Updated Shore Bombardment animation to make it clearer which region is being bombed
  • Added Leader Screen. This can be accessed from the Organization Screen to add or change leaders assigned to armies/fleets. It also shows which of your theaters need leaders and have leaders.
  • Battle Screen updated to show the leader bonuses for the battle. This number shows the total bonus per faction based on the theater Leader Strategy Bonus and the average of the Leader Attack or Defense Bonuses (whichever is applicable. The Attack bonus is used when you are attacking a region. The Defense bonus is used when you are defending a region.
  • Main Map tooltips updated to show leaders assigned to Armies/Fleets
  • Information Panel tooltips updated to show leaders assigned to Armies/Fleets

  • Updated AI to manage their country's leaders
  • Updated battle logic to incorporate leader bonuses
  • Add messages when convoys or transports are produced, in messages window

Bug Fixes:

  • German aircraft were unintentionally twice as strong as other countries due to a data error in the unit specifications. Data error has been corrected, and German aircraft now have their intended strength.
  • Fixed bug where battle screen showed for air battle where no battle occurs due to lack of fighters present.
  • Cleaned up number formatting in message panel on main screen.
  • Fixed bug where armies could be flagged as airdrop capable in some circumstances when reorganizing armies
  • Fixed bug where move messages for armies were repeated in Message Window
  • Fix bug with mouse drag, where drag was being released when mouse pointer left screen area. The mouse should be captured by the drag event once initiated and should continue until the mouse button is released. This should be fixed now.
  • Fixed bug where newly saved game file does not appear in game load screen.
  • Fixed bug where production notification flag was not displayed on map, when completed item was not requeued for production

Tuning:

  • Air Combat was bloodier than intended. Air combat casualties should be more realistic now. More tuning is likely to follow.
  • Larger fleets were being given too much convoy detection based on the number of ships. Since fleet ships are in relatively close proximity their search radius was being far too generous.

Changes

  • Removed sound effect for sunk ships from battle. It was too dominant in the sound mix. Investigating alternatives.
  • Increased volume of ship move sound effect. It was lower in volume than other effects
  • Adjusted torpedo impact sound effect
  • Adjusted depth charge sound effect
