Update 0.22.0 - Steam Deck Support & Spanish Localization

New Features
  • Steam Deck Support
    • An official Steam Deck controller profile has been added to take advantage of the many methods of input on the Steam Deck. This profile will be automatically loaded when playing The Conquest of Go on the Steam Deck, unless a different profile has already been selected.
    • The default controls which are loaded for Steam Deck users are as follows. Users can modify the configuration or create their own configuration if desired.
    • In addition to the controls listed above, the touch screen of the Steam Deck also functions as a way to click on buttons and place stones.
    • To learn more about Steam Input and how to configure controller settings, please visit the Steam page here.
  • Controller Improvements
    • Players using the Steam Deck or Steam Big Picture mode will have an on-screen keyboard automatically display when clicking on any of the input fields in the game that require text input.
    • The game will now detect when a controller that is opted into Steam Input is connected or disconnected while playing the game, which allows the game to remap the playback controls appropriately depending on the input device.
    • If a controller is present, the playback controls are mapped to their default settings, which the Steam Input profile will use to map a controller button to a playback control. The Steam Input configuration tool should be used to change the button mappings for each playback control, which can be done by modifying the official configuration or creating your own.
    • If a controller is not present, the playback controls are mapped to the custom keyboard controls that can be found and changed within the in-game playback settings menu.
    • This allows the controller configuration and keyboard configuration to be independent.
  • Spanish Localization
    • ¡The Conquest of Go está disponible ahora en español!
    • If your PC's language settings are set to Spanish, the game should automatically display text within the game in Spanish, unless you've previously selected a specific language using the Settings > General Settings > Language selection drop down list.
    • If you discover errors in the translation, please create a comment in this thread, or email [email protected]. Thank you.
  • Feature Activation Indicators and Tracking
    • The buttons at the top right of the Go board screen are used to activate various features and panels such as AI analysis, score graph, move history, and more. The buttons now have an indicator icon which will show if the feature is currently active (green) or if it is currently disabled (gray).
    • The buttons have been slightly reordered so that the buttons which have an indicator are grouped together.
    • Feature Tracking
      • The state of the panels for move history, match information, move tree, match text, and online chat are now tracked so that when returning to the Go board screen, these panels will be automatically displayed or hidden based on your most recent preference.
      • The tracking is saved based on two separate modes, allowing for different panels to be displayed depending on whether the player is playing a match or reviewing a match. The play mode includes playing a local match, online match, and campaign match. Review mode includes reviewing a match (local, campaign or online), practice mode, tutorials, opening explorer, and workshop content (matches, puzzles, tutorials, and joseki).
      • Some features will always display when first loading, regardless of previous settings, if they are vital to what the player is viewing. For instance, the text panel will always first be displayed when the player is viewing a tutorial or puzzle.
  • A new sound effect has been added which will be played when a player makes a passing move.
Updates
  • Some AI settings are now machine specific, so that if the game is played using the same Steam account, but on different PC's, the player is able to have separate settings to better match each PC's hardware. The AI settings that are now machine specific are the analysis AI selection, minimum visits, maximum visits, and review visits.
  • The message box that periodically appears at the top of the screen has been changed so that if there is enough text within it to cause it to overlap the board grid in the Go board screen, it will display with a partially transparent background to see the grid and stones beneath it.
  • Improved time management for Hybrid AI.
Fixes
  • Fixed an issue where a campaign ally was not properly managing time while playing a match.
  • Fixed an issue with the AI opponent was not properly managing time in some cases when resuming a match in progress.
  • Fixed an issue where the AI could time out if the minimum move delay setting was set to maximum (5 seconds) and the byoyomi time was also set to 5 seconds.
  • Fixed an issue with the tree view while reviewing match records, which would place an added node out of alignment if there was an existing node to the left of the new node that uses the same coordinate.
  • Fixed an issue where the pause screen state could be out of sync with the number of times the key or controller button was pressed, if they were pressed in rapid succession.
  • Fixed an issue where the pause menu was unable to be brought up by keyboard or controller button in the campaign scene, and instead only by clicking the button at the top right.
  • Fixed an issue with being able to rebind the load previous and load next file keyboard controls within the playback settings menu.
  • Fixed an issue in the German and Japanese localization of the text which displays the AI recommended move and associated score and move rank, which wasn't properly being displayed in these languages.

Patch 0.21.1

Fixed an issue which was causing the AI to get out of sync with what is displayed on the board in some cases when a match ended by passing, the game was resumed, and undos were used to work backwards through the match before playing new moves and continuing the match.

Update 0.21.0 - Legendary Records, New Graph Features, & Resource Updates

New Features
  • Legendary Records
    • The campaign mode will now feature a curated set of match records from notable players in Go's history, ranging from the 1600's to present day. The match records primarily feature important events in the player's careers such as international tournament wins.
    • Legendary records can be viewed within the battle summary panel by clicking on a region that the player has conquered.
    • Each region has 6 legendary records, for a total of 114 records to be collected across the map.
    • Legendary records are unlocked by trading resources. If a campaign's settings are set to not use resources, the records are unlocked automatically.
    • Players can step through and review unlocked legendary records similar to their own match records.
  • New Win Rate and Score Graph Features
    • The current analysis position will now be highlighted in blue on graphs to more easily see where the current position is within the graphs.
    • Text in the header of the graph will output the current value, making it easier to see the exact value. For win rate, this will be displayed as a percentage. For score, it will be displayed as an estimated match score result, such as B+1.5 or W+0.28.
    • While hovering over the graph, the closest point on the graph that matches the mouse cursor's x-axis value will be highlighted and the value will also be updated in the header, allowing a quick way to see the exact values within the graph.
    • While hovering over the graph while reviewing a match record, left clicking the graph will move forward or backwards through the moves of the match to the point in the graph that was clicked.
    • When trying out different moves while in review, or exploring moves in a separate branch, the graph will be updated with values matching the current branch, if they were previously calculated.
    • Activating the graphs works the same as before, which is to click the graph buttons at the top right while on the Go board screen. The graphs can be used during match review or while in a quick play match.
  • New Playback Settings
    • A new setting has been added to the Playback Settings menu, which allows the player to specify whether the next move indicator (black or white circle on the next coordinate played) will be displayed on the board while reviewing matches and tutorials. This setting is on by default.
    • A new settings has been added to the Playback Settings menu, which controls whether the final territory of a match will automatically be displayed on the board when reaching the final move while reviewing a match which ends by passing. When this setting is set to not display, a button will be available in the Match Results panel which will display the final territory when clicked, to achieve the same result. This settings is off by default. This is a change from previous versions of the game, where the default behavior was to display the territory automatically, however the process to determine territory can take some time, especially for lower-end systems, so it's best to let the player choose when territory will be displayed.
Updates
  • Resource Updates
    • Each resource is now capped at 99,999. While this does limit earning more resources, this amount should be more than enough than needed at a particular time during a campaign. Most people don't reach this amount of resources, but previously it was possible for resource amounts could grow unnecessarily large, with no real use.
    • For current campaigns, if the resource amount is already higher than 99,999, the amount will remain as-is, but will similarly not grow any larger until resources are used and fall below the 99,999 threshold.
    • Automatically gathered empire resources will now earn a maximum of 2000 of each resource after each match.
    • Resource costs to start an ally match have been reduced.
    • If you have an abundance of a particular resource, near or at the max value, you can use the market to trade resources and achieve a more level amount of resources across the board.
    • For clarity, when resources are maxed out, several resource related events will be absent:
      • Post-match resources that are gatherable by clicking will not be generated.
      • Empire resources will not be gathered.
      • Trading resources in the market will only be possible for importing resources that will result in a total resource value of 99,999 or less.
      • Resources earned as a bonus for solving fortification puzzles or moves for improvement during review will no longer be rewarded.
  • Previously, for campaign matches without handicap, the player's color was chosen purely at random, which had a chance of causing the player to play the same color in a row more times than desired. The player color is still selected at random, but a new rule was put in place to not allow the same color more than twice in a row, for better variety.
  • Ally matches have been modified to cost 0 resources for campaigns that have the resource availability setting set to none.
  • The Campaign Tutorial has been updated to include a note about the new legendary matches feature.
  • The shading on match records within the Battle Summary panel for the currently selected record has been updated to be a lighter shade instead of darker when compared to the non-selected match records.
  • When zoomed in on a region of the campaign map, the battle summary panel will now display in a larger size, allowing for additional matches and legendary records to be in view.
  • When filling in completed campaign match boards with city objects on the campaign map, dame (empty points between stones of opposite color) will be now be partially filled with generic city objects such as trees or sand dunes depending on the environment.
  • The fortification level icon is now also displayed on the battle summary panel next to the fortification level, making it easier to see what the icon represents when used elsewhere in the campaign.
  • Matches ending in a tie due to 0 komi or whole number komi are now represented as a tie match result in the match results panel.
Fixes
  • Fixed an issue which was causing the player to be disconnected from their active online match when performing a certain action within the online menu when accessed in the Go board scene.
  • Fixed an issue during reviews which would cause the Previous Move Recommendation button to be displayed under some circumstances when there was no previous recommendation for the current position within the move tree.
  • Added additional checking to prevent the AI from generating moves for the wrong board size in the rare case that events in the underlying game engine are processed out of order.
  • Fixed an issue with text extending out of the player card when the player's name was very long.
  • Fixed an issue with the default text overflowing the text area of the export match file panel when the names of the players are very long.
  • Fixed an issue with the win rate and score graphs, where the current position within the graph would not be updated until the next move was played if the graph was toggled off, several moves were played, and the graph was toggled back on.
  • Fixed an issue with the score graph which was not properly resetting the lower bound of the Y axis when switching to a different match to review.
  • Fixed an issue with turning on the analysis features (win rate/score graphs, estimated territory, move analysis) while on the final move of a match record under review, which was not properly resuming analysis after moving backwards through moves.
  • Fixed an issue with campaign fortification puzzles, where keyboard and scroll wheel inputs to move forward and backward through the puzzles moves were still enabled after closing the fortification puzzle.
  • Fixed an issue with the campaign market which was causing the market city objects to be colored improperly after viewing a non-player match.

Update 0.20.0 - Campaign Ally Matches & Steam Workshop Improvements

New Features
  • Campaign Ally Matches
    • In exchange for resources, the player can have an AI teammate (KataGo) assist with a match, where the player and teammate will alternate turns.
    • The level of teammate can be chosen by the player, but the resource cost increases with each level.
    • If the undo ability is used, the player will place the next stone regardless if the undone move was placed by the player or the AI teammate.
    • Automated reviews for ally matches will only evaluate the player's moves and the AI teammates moves will be ignored.
    • Records within the Battle Summary on the Campaign Map will also show which records have an AI teammate.
    • The campaign tutorial has been updated to include information on ally matches.
  • Steam Workshop Improvements
    • Progress on completing workshop items is now tracked for items of Puzzle, Match, and Tutorial types.
    • Progress on an item is considered complete when reaching the last move of the root path of a file, or if it is a puzzle item type and the file contains solution information, the item will be marked completed once the player has played the solution to the puzzle.
    • When viewing workshop items, a check mark will be displayed at the top of the grid item if the item was previously completed.
    • For workshop items that have progress that has been tracked, a "Reset Progress" button is available at the top of the grid of items to start progress from scratch once again.
    • Puzzles that do not contain solution information (SGF properties Good for Black (GB[]) or Good for White (GW[])) but contain only one path through the moves will now consider the path as the solution. This also enables the use of the "Show Correct Move" button while solving puzzles that fit this criteria. Puzzles with no way to determine solution information will be marked completed when reaching any ending move.
    • There is a new setting found within General Settings to select whether puzzle preview images within Steam Workshop Items will be loaded or not. Turning off puzzle previews can improve performance while loading lists of puzzles on lower-end PCs.
    • Please note that as content creators make changes to their workshop content which are pushed out to subscribers, such as renaming files, folders, or changing file locations, this will reset the tracking information for those particular files.
  • Move Testing Improvements
    • For game modes which restrict the player to certain moves, there is a new toggle called "Allow All Moves" which will allow players to play any move and test out their own move sequences.
    • This is available while solving puzzles (campaign fortification puzzles and Steam workshop puzzles) as well as the Opening Explorer and joseki type content within the Steam workshop.
  • Grid List Improvements
    • Lists of grid items such as the Saved Matches grid or Steam workshop files will now have paging, where a maximum of 50 grid items will be displayed, and other items can be accessed by using the page controls to load the next or previous 50 items.
    • Grids will now list sub-directories first, before listing files contained within the specific folder, making them easier to access on the first page.
  • The Online Menu can now be accessed directly from the Go board screen's pause menu while viewing an online match, allowing quicker access to online information and loading of other matches or reviews.
  • Match records within the campaign's Battle History panel of the campaign mode now have an icon to display which matches have suggested moves for improvement. A light color icon means that the suggested moves have already been reviewed. A dark color icon means that the suggested moves have yet to be reviewed, allowing the player to earn additional resources and adjust the AI by level or handicap.
  • When hovering over regions on the campaign map which have completed battles, the flag icon and color of the winning nation will now be displayed. The format of the battle result has been slightly modified to make more sense with the new nation flag icons.
  • Keyboard shortcuts have been added to load the previous and next files, which can be used to navigate between tutorials, saved matches, and workshop items. By default, left arrow will load the previous file, and right arrow will load the next file.
Updates
  • For themes that have atari graphics, atari audio will no longer be played for the first move or board setup, such as loading a puzzle or tutorial.
  • The "Disable Analysis" option when creating an online challenge will now be checked by default when players create their first online challenge.
  • The "Level" label within match result experience information displayed after a campaign match has been changed to "Player Level" to be more clear.
  • The Find Variations ability description has been updated to include a note that the Find Moves ability must first be activated in order to be used.
  • The campaign tutorial now has an additional step explaining nation colors, conquer totals, and how to change nation colors.
Fixes
  • Fixed an issue which was not allowing passing moves to be displayed properly as move recommendations within automated reviews.
  • Fixed an issue which was keeping the weak fortification outline visible on a region which was later set to max fortification by being completely surrounded by regions conquered by the same nation.
  • Fixed an issue which made it possible to lose a region when fortification decrease occurs, even if it was a region that was set to max fortification by being completely surrounded by regions conquered by the same nation.
  • Fixed an issue during reviews where the player information panels had a taller than normal space for the pass button if the player was using the Confirmation setting for the Move Submit Mode within the Board Settings menu.

    • Steam Community Items
      • Steam Community Items have been added to The Conquest of Go, which include 6 trading cards, 5 profile backgrounds, 6 emoticons, and 6 badges.
    • Steam Input Controller Profiles
      • Using Steam's Input system, recommended controller profiles have been added to support playing the game with a controller.
      • As of now, there are profiles for Playstation (PS3, PS4) and Xbox (Xbox 360, Xbox One), but if you're using a different controller, it should try to convert an existing profile to your controller type.
      • The default controls are as follows:

        • X/A - Left Click
        • O/B - Right Click

        • Select - Open keyboard overlay if in Steam Big Picture mode
        • D-Pad Up - Previous Move

        • Right Bumper - Next Comment
        • Left Trigger - Previous Moves (play in reverse until first move)
        • Right Trigger - Next Moves (play moves until end)
      • To use Steam's input system and enable your controller, or setup your own profile, you can follow the directions on Steam's Official Documentation.
      • Please note that if you've made modifications to the default keyboard controls found in the in-game settings (Settings > Playeback Settings) you'll need to modify the controller profile accordingly to match the same keyboard controls.
    • Random Board Theme
      • A new theme setting of "random" has been added which will load a random board theme from the seven available themes each time the Go board is loaded.
      • This setting can be found in Settings > Board Settings > Preferred Theme.
      • As with the other themes, players can make this appear in the campaign by clicking the "Override Campaign Theme" toggle found in the same settings menu.
  • Fixes
    • Fixed an issue with AI reviews where the player's last move of the match was unintentionally being reported as a mistake under some circumstances.
    • Fixed an issue where while reviewing a match, if it ended by resignation and the Estimate Score button was used to calculate the score and display territory at the end of the match, it was previously not redisplaying the estimated territory if moves were undone and the match reached the end once again.
    • Fixed an issue where the Estimate Score button was remaining enabled after reaching the end of the match and undoing moves.
    • Fixed an issue for Steam Workshop Items of Match type, where the score estimator was being triggered automatically for matches ending in resignation if the result was in the format "B+Resign" instead of "B+R".
