Kainga in 2025

Happy New Years, Kainga fans!
I’m here to finally give you some big news about the future of Kainga: Seeds of Civilization and what to expect in 2025!
Kainga Update 1.2
I’ve been working on bringing some exciting new features to the game, including new creatures, technologies, and the new points of interest system.
I've also been trying to add controller support which has proven to be more difficult than I expected, but I’m making progress on it. More news on this to come, and if you want to try out the new update and help find issues, you can join the BETA branch and reach out on Discord!
I Started My Own Dev Company: Silk Softworks!
I’m really excited to announce that I’ve launched my own development company: Silk Softworks. I’m still a solo developer, but as I spread out to more projects in the future, I want to have them under one umbrella brand.

This may seem just symbolic, but it has allowed me to move into a self-publishing model this year, under the Silk Softworks brand. This means Kainga will no longer be published by Green Man Gaming and I've regained full control of the game again! This has removed a roadblock in updates and you should see more activity here from now on :)
Previewing a New Project: ShantyTown
While awaiting the transfer, I’ve also been working on a new game: ShantyTown. It started as a tiny side project but has grown into something I'm quite proud of. ShantyTown is a relaxing city-block building game where you place objects one at a time to create a colorful, atmospheric and dense urban environment. I've been making ~monthly devlogs since the games conception, so if you're interested in the whole game-dev process, you can check that out here.

If the game sounds like it’s up your alley, please do me a favor and wishlist it! It really does help.

Although a totally different genre, tone and game, the world of ShantyTown and Kainga are inherently linked! They even share the same phonetic language! (These characters are on the cover of the Kainga menu book)
Follow Silk Softworks for Future Updates on Both Kainga and ShantyTown
If you haven’t already, be sure to follow Silk Softworks on Bluesky or join the Discord using the links below.

I'll also be streaming for the next few hours on Twitch, so if you want to drop in and see the update for yourself, please fell free to!

Thanks for reading, I’ll be sure to let you know when the new update goes live with a full description of what's included.
All my best,
Erik

What's Being Worked on in Kainga?

Hello all!
I thought I'd pop by to give a little update on what's being worked on in the world of Kainga: Seeds of Civilization!
New Content
First things first, there are a few houses in the game that are currently not unlockable but a teaser to what's coming up. I should have hidden them but I didn't :) sorry!

I'm working on quite a bit for update 1.2 which of course includes new technologies, beasts and map modifiers. The main thing I'm working on is what I'm calling "Points of Interest" which are locations that can spawn on any map similar to the Belowlands Karma Shop or the Necromancer's tower. These points of interest are things like NPC's to interact with, Thinker-less camps and new world mysteries and puzzles to be solved!

I have a bunch of ideas for potential points of interest but I'm always open to hearing yours!
Technical Changes
That's the fun stuff, but most of my time has been spent on fixes, keybinds reformatting and restructuring code to allow for things like proper UI and text scale to match standards of the Steam Deck and consoles. That's right! Kainga is getting controller support!

I had a lot of fun coming up with the control scheme and I think I've come up with some clever ideas!

If you want to be one of the first to help test this (and the new content features) be sure to hop on the Discord to keep informed on how you can help!

In addition to that, I'm working on some deeper features that have been highly requested like a sandbox mode, and I'm trying to come up with a good way for players to share the maps they generate!
Summer Sale!
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1269710/Kainga_Seeds_of_Civilization/

Kainga's currently on one of the deepest sales and seeing all the new players has been great. If you have questions or want to share your own ideas for Kainga the Discord is a great place to chat!

Please keep being awesome and have a wonderful day.
Thanks all,
-Kainga Dev

Update 1.1.18 - You can now pet the snails!

Happy Lunar New Years!

I've made some minor changes but working on something much bigger, including new houses and new interactable landmarks, but there was a bug with the bridge pathing so I wanted to push this fix out sooner rather than later.

But here's a fun little thing in the meantime, you can now pet all wild animals!

Here are the actual patch notes :)
Patch 1.1.18
Additions:
- You can now pet wild creatures!
- Town borders now don’t overlap each other visually
- Added some Lunar New Year flair
- Added some upcoming items in the encyclopedia
- Added a button in the settings to turn off seasonal decorations

Here's what the new town borders look like. I think it's much nicer!

Fixes:
- Fixed some audio issues with Walkers
- Fixed an issue where AI created beast attachments wouldn’t have a name when converted
- Improved the pathability of fishing towers
- Hopefully fixed the bridge collision issues introduced in the last update
- Fixed demands and trade table locations on water
- Fixed an issue with the selection box while not playing fullscreen

Thanks for the feedback and bug reports on the Discord server.

I'm currently doing a livestream on Twitch showing off some new stuff in progress.

I've also re-opened my Patreon if you feel like you really want to help out financially :)

That's all for now, enjoy!
