The Ultimates Update drops Friday!

Thanks to the amazing feedback and testing from our beta testers, we’ll release the Ultimates Update on Friday, October 25th. To celebrate, here's a screenshot of the Fire Ultimate.

Some of the great stuff in this update…

  • Ultimate spells for every Magic Skill. They’re so powerful that they can only be cast once a day.
  • Terrain in combat that enhances positional play.
  • Weaknesses and Resistances for enemies add a new strategic layer.
  • Scouting and Abjuration are new abilities to transform battles before you fight them.
  • A full rebalance of the combat spells to add interesting challenge.

There’s a ton of QoL, balance, and other improvements beyond the big changes in combat. We look forward to all your thoughts on it this weekend!

Early Access Roadmap Update

With the Dragons update complete, we're working hard on the Ultimates update. This one will include new spells for Mages, new combat mechanics, and a major balance pass for combat. We’re also doing an overhaul of difficulty setup to simplify starting a new game. As always, you can expect new QoL features as well.

We've added a release to the roadmap, The Magic Mirror. It will be all about new looks for the Mages and adding new ways to customize them. Of course, Mages that look great also need more recreation to feel great, so look out for that, too.

Finally, we adjusted the dates on Nexus and Endgame updates. We need to make sure we have plenty of time in beta and prerelease for the next updates and we have a lot of QoL and general improvements to work into the game.

The Nexus update will extend the Underschool with repeatable challenges, new mechanics, and unique resources, adding a lot more play to the mid and late game.

The Endgame update will tie everything together with lore, quests, and endgame goals, which each release is building toward.

For the first time, we're able to say that a 1.0 version of the game is now within sight. There's still a long way to go and we don't have a date for this, but sometime in the vicinity of the Endgame update, we'll be exiting Early Access.

On behalf of the whole dev team, thank you very much for all your play, feedback, and enthusiasm for Mind Over Magic!

The Jade Dragon

Overview

The Jade Dragon update adds to the mid-game of Mind Over Magic and starts setting the stage for the late-game features still to come. As always, we've dropped in a healthy does of QoL that you will see in brand new games as well.

Hatching and raising a Jade Dragon is itself a major project with many steps. It will take time, preparation, many Mages, and new rooms to integrate the Jade Dragon into your school.

Once you do, however, you'll unlock quests for your Mages. These quests involve selecting Mages with specific qualifications to send away from the school for a time. Doing so will upgrade your Mages and Relics in ways that cannot be done outside of quests. They also provide plenty of XP for high-level mages and even unique Relics.

These Quests also introduce the world of the Wolfkin outside of your school. Future releases will add quests that reveal more about other factions and mysteries.

Existing saves are compatible with this release. If you want to quickly check out a Jade Dragon, we recommend not starting over. We also kept a backup of your last save, so you can go back to it if you need to.

If you are looking to get a Jade Dragon as quickly as possible, simply push out your fog far enough (until you see the forest area) and you'll get an alert telling you how to get started. No more spoilers than that, though!

Many, many thanks to the Closed Beta and Pre-Release players for all their feedback. These players were critical in shaping how quests and the Jade Dragon work together.

Details below!

  • To raise a Jade Dragon, find a Jade Eggplant near the edge of the forest zone(possibly under the Fog) to start the difficult process of hatching and growing the Dragon.
  • If you want to hurry to get a Jade Dragon, we do not recommend starting a fresh save. This is a mid-to-late-game feature that requires many aspects of a well developed school.
