We’re cooking up a storm at Next Fest!

Grab that frying pan and sharpen that machete, we’re about to cook up the next big feast at Next Fest!

The chefs may still be cooking up the full release but, in the meantime, we’ve got a public demo as a starter before the main course arrives later on this year.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
A three-course meal of an adventure: restaurant manager, light survival RPG, and life sim, all set in the zany universe of the Horseshoe Nebula. As the galaxy's (soon to be) premiere chef, it's up to you to seek out the finest ingredients from alien planets, cook delicious dishes, and serve them to customers in the comfort of your fully-customisable space trailer.

There's a whole universe of ingredients out there... if they don't eat you first. Explore distant planets, derelict space stations, and your own basement for plants, critters, and other tasty morsels.

Along the way, you'll come across space pirates, ancient ruins, and a suspiciously high number of recently abandoned restaurants. Keep an eye out for rare resources (and bits of random junk) that you can use to upgrade your gear, kitchen equipment, and spaceship.

Chef Update: Summer supper update!

Grab your ladles and tell your squad - Steam Next Fest is right around the corner, and the Space Chef Demo is crash-landing onto the front page like a flaming souffle on June 9!

This is the biggest chance yet to get new players hooked on cooking, looting, space-scootering, and (accidentally) setting the grill on fire. So do us a favor and spread the word like spilled gravy:
 • Tell your friends
 • Tell your coworkers
 • Tell that one cousin who only plays fishing simulators
 • Tell your cat (they won’t care, but still)

Every wishlist, every playthrough, every thumbs-up helps our spicy little indie game stand out in a galaxy full of bland gruel.
Oops! I dropped it again - Death drop system
Lost all your ingredients cause you messed with the wrong Graffle? Again!? No more! Now when your health hits zero, you'll just take a quick nap. Don't snooze too long though... You've got three days to return and reclaim your precious ingredients and materials. Bags are clearly marked on your map, radar, and minimap, so losing track of them is practically impossible unless you're deliberately avoiding responsibility (like the old "Keep Inventory" toggle, may it rest in peas).
Love hurts? Try this one romantic trick!
Struggling to impress your cosmic crush? Whip up the legendary Buzziecoa Love Pralines! But be warned, it's not as easy as it sounds. You’ll have to battle sea monsters for Jelly Drops, face stone golems for the juicy Pearfect, and brave Crystalia's blizzard for Crystal Fruit. If that sounds too intense, maybe just stick with Beefle Skewers...

The upside? Buzziecoa Love Pralines never spoil, unlike some relationships we know.

Each NPC has five increasingly rare favorite foods. Impress them all, choose your words wisely, and they'll say yes faster than you can say "Greasy Ratoid Plate with a side of Shimmer Dippers".
May the force be with chew - Space gameplay revamp
Space just got spicy! We've revamped cosmic adventures so you’ll encounter more events and hazards in your path, making space travel feel alive and reactive. Brace yourself for asteroids, pirates, and nasty disassembly drones eager to "disassemble" your plans. Upgrade your defenses, your future self will thank you.

Your first scooter now also zooms faster and even has a built-in mini booster for speedy deliveries or quick escapes from pirates or your responsibilities. Plus, we added flashy "Whoosh Zoom Kablam" smoke effects to trick your brain into believing you’re flying even faster, science approved!

Oh, and when you take a "space-nap" (exploding in bits and pieces), your stuff conveniently floats for easy pick-up later. Unless pirates get it first!
Order upgrades - Cooking without the cookbook!
Order tooltips are now clearer than broth on simmer, displaying required ingredients for each dish right where you need them. Forget fumbling between Rainbow Salads and Root Salads, unless fumbling is your secret sauce.
Radio gaga & tutorial fiesta
Is setting up your restaurant menus unclear? Restaurant open/close confusing? We know! That's why we've packed the game with helpful tutorials right from the start! But if you're the click-happy type that don't read anything (Hey, you're reading this, aren't you?), check the Gastropedia for everything you missed.

Plus, NPC radio hints now guide you toward vital materials like coal and ice. If you go full Beefle-slayer and defeat 30 of them in one morning, your spatula will snap like a dry twig. Look no further, a helpful tutorial will walk you through crafting a new one before it’s too late. Keep up the Beefle bashing!
Udderly surprising milking!
Yes, you can milk certain animals - surprise to some, we're sure, as it wasn't very clear before! Our favorite nebula biologist, J'Sie Saster, broadcasts useful creature tips and milking etiquette (spoiler: some animals prefer their personal space).
Dishing out stats!
You're able to track your culinary conquests in the gastropedia, and these nifty little stars will show you how hard you've been working to make a dish popular:

 • Bronze star - Your dish debut!
 • Silver star - Served 10 times, nice!
 • Golden star - Served 25 times, hot stuff!
 • Moltron star - Served 50 times, legendary chef territory!

Keep your menu fresh - repeat dishes bore customers. Variety is the spice of nebula life!
Achievement unlocked: Bontha Slayer!
58 thrilling achievements await, from cooking 100 meals to conquering a Bontha with nothing but a spatula. Talk about flipping awesome!
Store more with flair
Your storage boxes got an upgrade - sturdy, spacious, and customizable with fun colors. Sizes range from the cozy small (6 slots) to the roomy medium (12 slots), and the massive large box (18 slots). Storage has never looked so good.
Switch ships from your slippers
Sick of trekking to Hiro in Glimmerrock just to switch ships? So were we. Introducing the Ship Switcher! Now switch between all your ships comfortably from home.

Galactic Guides: Zlurkas
Exploring the cosmos is a thirsty job, and there’s no better way to quench your thirst than at Zlurkas Bar!

This zany bar is host to a variety of unusual characters, some funky decorations, and Zlurka himself, who is definitely human.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1272290/Space_Chef/
The Characters:
Zlurkas Bar is a great place to socialize with the locals and get to know what’s happening around the cosmos. One of the first locals you’ll meet is the top-tier gamer, J’sie, reigning champ of Zlurkas with her unbeatable Space Inhalers high score. This abrasive character is a biologist with a knack for unravelling mysteries about the Horseshoe Nebula's life-forms.

Once you’ve made your way around and met the characters dotted throughout the bar, it’s time to meet the bartender himself, Zlurka! The ill-fitting fake nose and glasses might be a slight giveaway that might be bending the truth, but you’ll find that Zlurka is pretty insistent on his human identity.

You’ll also be able to buy some delicious food and drinks, such as a Kachew Bowl and a Meep Meep smoothie.
The Interior:
The inside of Zlurkas Bar is quite the vibe, especially on a Tuesday night with the weekly karaoke! The mood lighting and the questionable singing quality really bring a place together.

There are also a few decorations dotted around the bar that might be an excellent addition to spruce up your trailer 👀

Galactic Guides: Cyclonia

Cyclonia is a dry, rocky planet, but that doesn’t mean it’s barren!

Cyclonia is a rough planet with strong winds and even stronger rocks. The critters on this world are a sturdy bunch, with tough exteriors but delicious interiors.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1272290/Space_Chef/
The Creatures & Critters:
With the planet being so dry and borderline inhospitable, the creatures that dwell here need to be a sturdy bunch and as tough as the planet itself.

The Scorching Desert is home to quite a few of these tough critters. The Tentacolon seems to be some kind of subterranean monster. No one quite knows how far down it goes, not that you’d want to know with that fiery display it’s putting on! Spraying flames like a BBQ gas canister gone rogue!

Not everything in The Scorching Desert is an immediate threat though. The Flapperdash is correctly named with how ear-flappingly fast it is! A group called the ”Speed Runners” compete to catch as many Flapperdashs as they can in 2 minutes on this planet. When caught, they drop some delicious meat slices, perfect for any meaty recipe.
The Shrubs & the Vines
With water being a rare resource on this planet, it’s a botanical miracle that the planet has any botany. Instead, it’s quite the opposite! Cyclonia is home to an array of many different species of flora, but bear in mind that most of it is spiky and harmful in nature. A great example of one of these prickly plants is the Cactopus, spiky on the outside and almost entirely water on the inside! Is the risk truly worth the reward? The answer is always: yes!

Further down south on the planet is The Spikey Pathway, the perfect place to collect a trailer's worth of Lime Slime. This slimy substance is the ideal ingredient and packs a citrussy punch! Add a little bit of water and you’ve got yourself the perfect Mama’s Lemonade.
That’s another tour done! With Cyclonia crossed off the list, we’ve now visited everything within the Inner Ring. We’ll have to pack a bit more equipment for our next travels, wherever that may be! There’s a whole Horseshoe Nebula to explore!

Don’t forget to join our Discord and let us know what you want to see in our next Galactic Guide! We’ll be sure to cook up a storm.
