Thฤtesโ Houses

The foundation of the society you will happen to rule are tireless, hardworking and, telling the truth as it is, rather simple people. In Ancient Greece, they were called Thฤtes - the lowest class of free men in the whole state, consisting mostly of poor peasants, small craftsmen, and landless hired workers โ๏ธ The scope of their activities is therefore extremely wide and
essential for the survival of your city. You can meet Thฤtes in such places as farms, lumber mills, clay pits, olive groves, woodcutter's houses, fisherman's huts, hunting lodges, or varied kinds of minor workshops. Their hands may be blistered, and their necks sunburned, however, as long as you take good care of their needs, they will sure prove to be
loyal, well-performing subjects.

Speaking of Thฤtesโs needs... one of the most important necessities of mankind is to have
shelter and a roof over their heads. The bigger, more comfortable, and well-stocked, the better! ๐๏ธ Thฤtes may not be a very demanding social layer, but still craves entertainment and access to a variety of goods. Anyhow, let's get back to the housing. As you can see in the illustration below, the Thฤtes' houses cannot be called very spacious and magnificent. The bodies of this type of buildings are
rather simple and austere, they usually consist of a small number of rooms, and are quite low (two-story houses are in this case fairly rare). The roofs are most often covered with whitewashed stones or simple red tiles. Although such a house does not seem particularly cozy and roomy,
it fulfills its function perfectly - it provides safety and a place to live for numerous Thฤtes families. In the end, not everyone can live a comfortable, luxurious life of a ruler, right? ๐๐
The construction of such simple houses does not require a lot of raw materials and work, so your builders will be able to build plenty of them in a short period of time. Thฤtesโ houses prove to be a great solution, whenever your city is experiencing a demographic surplus and needs to host numerous newcomers from all over Greece. Of course, with time, accumulated wealth, and access to demanded goods,
simple houses can advance to something more ๐ฐ which leads us to...
Zeugitaisโ Houses

Zeugitai are wealthy enough to own a team of oxen... or to serve in famous hoplites formation. We are sure you get the idea -
this social layer is nothing else but the middle class of your population. Let's start with the fact, that Zeugitai are somewhat more qualified and demanding employees than the Thฤtes described above. They spend their working day in places such as watermills, more demanding farms like wheat farm, cattle farm, and flax plantation, or in different types of mines placed around your city.
Make no mistake - they still know how to work hard, but their job requires a bit more skill and experience โ๏ธ As the goods and resources they produce are often quite valuable, they can afford a fairly comfortable standard of living. Take their homes as an example...

Zeugitaiโs Houses are definitely more spacious and complex than cramped Thฤtesโ Houses - that's for sure! Middle class houses are covered with smooth, red tiles, they often have two floors, several rooms, and even a small, cozy porch. Zeugitai
families can enjoy more freedom and have some extra space to gather the goods they need in their everyday life ๐ช Naturally, building such a home is a bit more expensive and requires more work, however it is still a rather simple structure. When your Polis develops from a provincial town to a well-known, prosperous city, vacant space will be quickly filled with Zeugitais' houses... and the service buildings they crave for.
If you want
Zeugitai to feel comfortable in your city, you need to provide them with the access not only to a variety of goods, but also to some class-fitting services. This social group loves to spend their free time in the Inn - a place where the latest news, rumors, and
matters important to the average citizen are discussed... not to mention the delicious beverages served there ๐ฅ In addition, it would be a wise decision to build the Ares Square. Thanks to this place, your dear Zeugitai will not only stay in good shape and practice their fighting skills, but also provide themselves with a great deal of entertainment! โ๏ธ

In the following parts of the series, we will return with
descriptions of many other cool structures that will ensure the safety, well-being, and development of your city. We hope that the buildings presented today will find their place among the streets of your Polis, and that they will contribute to the growth of
your magnificent kingdom! ๐ As always - thank you and stay tuned!
