v0.18.156 - New Look + Whole Lotta Card Fixes / Updates

I've been busy working on bug fixes and a FREE TO PLAY 'Peace Edition' for Bud Masters. It contains the One of Each mode and no deck builder. The 'Peace Edition' is PvP compatible with the Early Access 'Battle Edition'.

The idea of the Peace Edition is to not only promote peace (of course), but to allow people to quickly jump into a game and start learning all the cards through playing.

Once people are ready to 'start battling with custom decks' they can always upgrade to the current 'Battle Edition'.

Why the New Look? Well the new 'Hippie Free Love' Peace Edition store page was not approved by the new business review team / AI systems at Steam...

NOT APPROVED:


Flagged as 'too sexual' + 'not PG-13 safe'... in the end it came down to the Weed Leaf... but there are other PG-13 Weed Leaf logos / games etc... so instead of getting too attached to endlessly changing the peace sign and weed leaf logo, I started experimenting...

After a few tokes and feeling in a rebel dark mood and... well, yes, I've completely updated the branding.



I know what I see in my Mind's Eye... and with a ton of prompting (I am using Midjourney at moment) + a lot of human Photoshop work, colour work and logo work = it looks pretty good??



Will see what the Steam Business Team say after another re-submit of the new 'Peace Edition' store page for evaluation. Hopefully all goes well and the 'Peace Edition' will launch on April 19th - just in time for 420!

[h2]'Battle Edition' Patch Notes[/h2]
  • ABILITY FIX: swap card owner - fixed replication - fixes a lot of odd behavior when cards were 'swapping owner' such as with 'The Retriever' / 'The Dance Floor' / 'The Lava Lamp' etc.
  • CARD PARTIAL FIX: 'Soul Sacrifice' - fixed ability + sent to graveyard (still bug when revived from graveyard = retains kill ability but icon is not showing...)
  • CARD FIX: 'Zen Master' - retaliation stat applies correctly / replicated over network
  • CARD FIX: 'The Guitarist' - ability text correct '+2' not '+1'
  • CARD FIX: 'The Wonder Bus' - Lifestyle cards correctly get their bonus On Drop
  • CARD FIX: 'Fashion Diva' - correctly applies +2 Tolerance
  • CARD FIX: 'Jazz' - correctly applies +1 Retaliation to 'Musician' class
  • CARD FIX: 'Pianist' - correctly calculates poison damage end of turn
  • CARD UPDATE: 'Beanie Brain' - after ability the card now stays on board
  • CARD UPDATE: 'Kung Fu Master' - is now a 'special'
  • CARD UPDATE: 'The Wonder Bus' - attack effect just smoke now (simplified)
  • CARD UPDATE: 'Head Flaps' - text updated [can not attack Bud Bowl]
  • DECK BUILDER: some ui clean up - more to come!
  • UI / UX / GRAPHICS: slowly polishing the UI with the help of AI + my Photoshop skillz (lol) - more to come!




[h2]COMING ASAP![/h2]
  • NEW CARD: 'Mobile Phone' - 'wastes your time' - lifestyle, hindering card, taunt protect all player cards + bud bowl until dealt with...
  • NEW CARD: 'Grave Robber' - 'the other oldest profession' - take the top card from your opponent graveyard and add it to your hand
  • NEW CARD: 'Laughter' - 'good for the soul' - on drop +1 player turn mana - single use sent to graveyard
  • NEW CARD: 'Kiss of Death' - target own - [single use] retaliation to Kill - affected card destroyed after retaliating
  • MATCH MODE: 'best of 3' - 'best of 5' - so players stay connected to each other until Match is won instead of having to re-connect after every game. I have all of this worked out in theory, and should hopefully have this sorted before 420 :D


[h2]Steamers With their own Music[/h2]
Came across this video the other day. Felt great to actually see a stream of my game, and this is the 1st one uploaded that I know about. Bud Masters has been in Early Access for ages, and this video was exactly what I needed to see some of the issues and how people were reacting to the game. This video has re-invigorated the game and inspired me.

Sound Systems + Battle History

[h2]SOUND CONTROL[/h2]
I have added a simple sound system to control the master volume, music, card drop loops and sound effects. It's still new and not every sound in the game has been configured yet, but will have another patch soon!

There are new SOUND buttons in the OPTIONS / PAUSE menu.

[h2]PATCH NOTES[/h2]
  • Sound Controls / Save / Load added
  • Deck Builder UI improvements - larger / label / filter / messaging
  • Basic Battle History system added (I will be expanding on this system ASAP to include ability effects / more details)
  • Removed Early Access Cheats [let me know in the comments if anyone still wants them]


[h2]IN THE WORKS[/h2]
  • Card Art - I'm experimenting more with the newer AI... it's very cool. If the game picks up and there is cashflow I will definitely hire an artist. I will add some game settings to select original dev art, AI generated 'art', or hopefully custom art!
  • Multiplayer Testing - I noticed that with multiplayer some abilities aren't functioning as they do in single player vs AI. It will take some time to debug - but if anyone can catch a multiplayer error and put in the forum it will help me know where to look to debug / test!

[h2]A.I. Art Experiments[/h2]
I'm back stoking Bud Masters code again! The next update should be super crazy cool! I'm working on a new UI and some new card ideas based on my experiments with A.I. Art generators.

This is the WOMBO Dream A.I.



A.I. ART?

I am using my original 'card art' as the 'seed image' to grow truly unique images out of the Dream A.I.



It's so absolutely cool, sometimes beautiful, and somewhat scary, and at times downright CREEPY! Super awesome!



I hope to add the ability to select different card art and create decks with different 'moods'.

[h2]CURRENT BUG I AM TRYING TO FIX:[/h2]
The 'cloned card' action / stat replication issue! Sometimes on the client a clone will not have the right retaliation or ability that was bestowed upon it...

I didn't have the skills back then to fix it so I took a break and went even more mental making my other crazy Squirrelmageddon! game.



I will be releasing weekly (hopefully) card updates with new art and streaming me playing vs the A.I.
