Outcore News

June 14th patch notes

Fixes:
 • Fixed the star sensitivity slider accidentally affecting the game's volume instead. How long has it been like this...?

Opsy doopsy update

Recently, I reinstalled Windows, and along with it, I reinstalled the Outcore project. Ever since then, things have started breaking even though I didn't make any major changes.

One of the bugs that managed to slip through my testing was the camera's rendering changing to "perspective" from "orthographic" (ortho is better for 2D). This caused the camera to render things that were out of bounds sometimes.

 • Fixed camera rendering out of bounds when choosing "retry" in the pause menu

Minor update

Added a link to Lumi's next adventure at the end of the game

Announcing Dead Watch

[p]I'm happy to finally announce Dead Watch(ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː)![/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p][/p][p]Dead Watch is a murder mystery game where the time resets whenever you find a dead body. You're stuck in a castle and have to find a way out before the next murder occurs.[/p][p]While you explore, characters will follow their schedule, move around, and do certain actions. You'll have to use your knowledge of past loops to steer the future and prevent the murderer from killing.[/p][p][/p][p]Featuring a bunch of losers, such as:[/p]
 • [p] Yourself.[/p]
 • [p] Lumi from Outcore, plucked from the internet.[/p]
 • [p] A mascot animal whose sole purpose of existence is to sell merchandise![/p]
[p][/p][p]This is the part where I tell you to Like & Subscribe, except I'm not a YouTuber, so please Wishlist & Follow Dead Watch![/p][p][/p]
How you can help Dead Watch release faster
[p]This is a self-funded project, so I can't afford to hire a full-time team. I end up doing almost everything, including programming, game design, story writing, illustrations, sound design, etc... This slows down development.[/p][p][/p][p]Nvidia's CEO has this phrase where he says "The more you buy, the more you save". Yeah? Well guess what, I have my own dumb catch phrase:[/p][p]ːsteamhappyː The more you donate, the sooner Dead Watch will be released! ːsteamhappyː[/p][p][/p][p]Every dollar you donate will be used to hire people who actually have an idea what they're doing. This will free me to work on the stuff I'm good at (cleaning dishes), accelerate development, and allow the game to be released sooner.[/p][p][/p][p]NOW everyone! Say it together with me![/p][p][/p][p]That's right, kids! Now go get your parents' wallet![/p][p][/p][p]People who donate through Patreon will receive the following rewards:[/p][p]Monthly rewards[/p]
[p]Tier[/p]
[p]Reward[/p]
[p]$3[/p]
[p]Monthly pictures of my cats[/p]
[p]$5[/p]
[p]"Member plus" Discord role + Credit in a monthly post[/p]
[p]$10[/p]
[p]A better Discord role + VIP Discord channel access with early update sneak peeks[/p]
[p]$20[/p]
[p]Better discord role + deluxe DLC code on release[/p]
[p]$40[/p]
[p]An even more exclusive discord role (???) + early build access (after signing NDA)[/p]
[p][/p][p]Lifetime accumulation rewards[/p][p][/p]
[p]Lifetime accumulation[/p]
[p]Reward[/p]
[p]$30[/p]
[p]Appear in the game's credits.[/p]
[p] $90[/p]
[p]A bigger credit closer to the start of the credits section[/p]
[p] $225[/p]
[p]Super credit - Best location in the credits section + a 128 x 128 image you choose to represent you[/p]
[p]$500[/p]
[p]Your character + one line of dialogue will be added to a specific section in the game[/p]
[p] $10,000,000[/p]
[p]I'll take the money and you'll never hear from me again!!![/p]
[p][/p][p]Here's the Patreon link: https://www.patreon.com/c/DoctorShinobi[/p][p][/p][p]Alternatively, you can donate money to your local animal shelter. It won't help Dead Watch, but it will make the world a slightly better place for animals[/p][p][/p]
How else can you help without spending money?
[p]The biggest reason Outcore (the previous game) succeeded was the community. People who loved it told their friends about it. Those friends shared it with others, small streamers began covering Outcore. Eventually, even larger ones created videos. [/p][p][/p][p]That's right, my secret marketing power is YOU(💖)! [/p][p][/p][p]As a small developer, there's a limit to how much I can market Dead Watch. You have the power to spread the word about the game beyond my reach. [/p][p]Tell your friends, your favorite influencer, your dog, and even the prime minister of Antarctica about the game![/p][p][/p]
Closing words
[p]Closing words.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]I'm aiming to release Dead Watch in 2026. Meanwhile, come hang out on the game's Discord server[/p]

The New Game news + free midi files

EDIT: THE NEW GAME HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED!
[p]Read about it over here: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1275670?emclan=103582791467394763&emgid=564746584593531784[/p][p][/p][p]HALLO

It's been over two whole microseconds since I shared news, so I think it's time for a new blog post.
Today I'd like to share some progress update on ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː, its funding, and also give you a bunch of free Outcore MIDI files.

[/p]
ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː
[p]
If you read the previous blog posts then you might know I'm working on ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː.

[/p]
What is ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː???
[p]Well, I'm glad you asked. ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː is ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː A NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː I think many of you will like. ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː will not be called Outcore 2, but in a way ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː is an Outcore 2. Confusing, I know, but you'll have to trust my word and judge once the game is announced. I hope you've been able to follow through this paragraph because even my dyslexic brain can barely read it. Look how terrible it looks in Steam's text editor:

Anyway, progress update. I've been working on polishing ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː in preparation to announce it. My current focus is the game's trailer, so it should tell you that it's in a pretty presentable state.
I don't want to promise anything, but I'm planning to announce the game this year. How soon depends on how long it takes me to find a good "stage" to host ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː's announcement.

[/p]
Funding ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː
[p]Since we're talking about ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː, let's also talk about funding it.
This game's development is being funded entirely out of my savings. That means I make most of the game on my own, because I can't afford to pay professionals often.

This slows development down, so to tackle this, I'm planning to crowdfund ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː through Patreon.
I already have a Patreon account where I rip off Outcore fans by taking their money and giving them nothing but pictures of my cute cats.
To nobody's surprise, asking people to pay for very little value doesn't work well.

I want to revamp it to give people better value for their buck. I'm thinking about rewards such as different tiers for game credits, inclusion of your image/character somewhere in the game, and access to early news updates & builds.
I'd like to take this opportunity to ask, what do you think? What rewards would you want? The important thing to mention is that it should be things that don't slow down development.

The patreon revamp will launch once the game is announced, but there will most likely be rewards related to lifetime accumulation (meaning it's not too early if you wish to start supporting ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː THE NEW GAME ːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyːːsteamhappyː's development now!): https://www.patreon.com/c/DoctorShinobi

[/p]
FREE MIDI FILES???
[p]Oh god I'm so tired from writing the last few paragraphs, what was I thinking? How am I going to gather the mental energy to write about ːsteamsadːːsteamsadːːsteamsadː THE OLD GAME (OUTCORE) ːsteamsadːːsteamsadːːsteamsadː's FREE MIDI FILES??? Why can't I write just one single normal blog post like my parents always wanted?????? Maybe it's because I've never known my dad and haven't talked with most of my family in years. What, dad, you think your son that you've never known had planned to write his blog posts like a cringe edge lord that's wanna be funny? NO! I just start by writing normally but uncontrollably end up vomititing piles of hot molten nuclear garbage text that barely connects together to form gramatically correct sentences. You wouldn't be able to train ChatGPT to produce this unhinged toxic blighttown literature waste that parallels the poisonous hotdogs from the central bus station in my city no matter how many graphic cards you'd shove in it.

My point is that I like seeing Outcore fan content. I've seen quite a lot of fan art, but barely any fan remixes. I'd like to help the community making Outcore remixes, so I asked Fez (the game's musician) to release a bunch of MIDI files of popular music tracks.

I will say this, those music tracks were not originally created to sound good as MIDI files. They're not as great as the originals. Your ears might bleed a little, but you should still be able to use them to create something that sound good.
