Quadrants Map Rework & Customizable Map Pools

Quadrants Map Rework

Hey, TastyBiscuitDev here.

I'm the map designer behind Metro, Outskirts, Orbit, Xeo and of course, Quadrants.

From some observations and the feedback we got from the survey we sent out a little while ago, its evident that Quadrants is definitely one of the least favored maps in the pool. Most commonly discussed was it's size and structure. My intentions - design wise - was that matches took place mostly in-doors because that's where the map shines most - but its clear that 90% of a match is taken place out-doors, in far open spaces.

So with this update, I've closed off all exits and entrances and enforced that the map is strictly interior with no legitimate way to go outside. Portals will seamlessly connect the buildings together - so that players are fighting in areas where the map shines best.

The original Quadrants will still be available to play as a custom map once custom maps are released, in case sniping was your favorite part.

Customizable Map Pools

The host of a match can now disable maps they don't want players to be able to vote on. This will make tournament setups easier and let hosts get rid of maps they don't like, or that won't fit their match settings. This is partially in preparation for custom maps in the future.

Additional Changes
 • Added a muted icon for muted players
 • More UI gradient purging
 • Replaced the sheriff star host icon with a more generic person icon
 • Replaced the verified player checkmark with a more common verified icon
 • Fixed a glitch that I guess has existed since its Steam release where the vertical camera rotation of players was not synced correctly, and would only update when their horizontal camera rotation changed. This should make spectating players in first person a lot more reliable. I seriously can't believe how long it took me to realize this was an issue.
 • Fixed an issue where leaderboard scores weren't being uploaded

Update 1.33 Patch Notes

1.33.7 (June 4)
 • Introduced a level requirement (25) to start a vote ban. It's getting ridiculous with the amount of banning other players for no reason. I might increase or decrease this in the future.

1.33.6 (June 3)
 • Reworked the backend servers
 • Separated mutes and custom skin bans into two separate categories, meaning players who are muted can still use custom skins, and players who were banned from using custom skins can still talk in chat

1.33.5 (May 29)
 • Fixed the Googly eyes not rotating when the player model is spun in the main menu
 • Added a arrow that appears when adjusting a custom skin so that you can see which direction is forward
 • Fixed the hover border not appearing on the custom skin creation and variant buttons
 • Removed the gradient from player usernames and time trial UI
 • Fixed a bug where having 6 custom skins would make the customization menu flicker
 • Added a new room setting: Allow Spectating

1.33.4 (May 18)
 • Fixed resource pack issues with the language selection menu
 • Fixed overlapping issues with the hover underlay on the scoreboard
 • Players who vote for a map in the lobby will now have a checkmark next to their name
 • Fixed a bug where joining friends through Discord invites or the Steam friends list didn't work after the new menu was implemented
 • Mods will now have the mod tag on the scoreboard again

1.33.3 (May 18)
 • Fixed some issues with persistent GameObjects

1.33.2 (May 17)
 • Added a drop shadow to the Find Match menu and fixed the background being darker than it should be

1.33.1 (May 16)
 • Removed the text outline on the Discord online counter
 • Moved the news buttons to the top right

New Menu!
UI Overhaul
I haven't changed the main menu for Redmatch 2 since I first created it in 2019. The same black curtains scrolling... over and over... for years! What were they even supposed to be? As far as first impressions go, that main menu was terrible. I hope you all enjoy the new one as much as I do!

Other major UI changes include:
 • Create Match
 • Lobby
 • Resource Packs
 • Statistics
 • Achievements
 • Language Select
 • Scoreboard (It's now scrollable!)
 • All text (removed the gradient)

The settings menu has not been redesigned yet. It will take me a while since I need to rebuild the settings system, and I didn't want to delay this update any more than it had to be.
Resource Pack Changes
I've also worked to get the UI consistent across all menus. This gives the added bonus of expanding Resource Packs' UI functionality, and I've added some new files:
 • background_underlay
 • background_video_underlay
 • fullscreen_background_underlay
 • hover_underlay
 • hover_overlay
 • list_hover_underlay
 • list_hover_overlay
 • list_background
 • ui_background
 • ui_panel_background
 • icon_button_background
 • drop_shadow

You can check the Image section of the Resource Pack Documentation for more info.

The Neon White pack and Half Life 2 pack already take advantage of these new features. If you right click them in the Resource Pack Menu and choose Copy Path, you can view all the source files for yourself which is useful as a reference.
Additional Changes
• The main menu now has ultrawide monitor support
 • Removed a hidden 10 pixel padding that was affecting the healthbar and shield in-game. It will look exactly the same but if your resource pack changed the healthbar you might notice a slight shift, which you can account for by manually adding 10 pixels of padding to your health UI on the left and bottom.
 • You can no longer die if you're already dead.
 • A loading screen will now be displayed when returning to the main menu after a match ends, instead of freezing the last frame.
 • Falling from Heaven no longer quits the game.

1 MILLION PLAYERS GIVEAWAY

Thank you all so much for supporting Redmatch 2 over the past 2.5 years! It's been awesome to see a project I started to practice network programming become a game enjoyed by so many people.

To celebrate 1,000,000 lifetime unique players, I'm doing a giveaway of 20 DLCs! Winners get to pick which DLC they want. To enter the giveaway, join the Discord server and check out the #giveaway-info channel.
The Giveaway is now over! Thank you to everyone who joined in the last week, and congratulations to the winners!
Update 1.32 Patch Notes

1.32.1 (April 5)
 • The Chainsaw hat will now have the spike speed affected by the slowdown at the end of a match
 • The vote ban settings can now be changed by me remotely so that I can tweak values without updating the game.
 • Reduced stuttering in the main menu caused by frequent checking of download progress and display of completion percentage for workshop items. More subscribed workshop items leads to more stuttering during the first few seconds after the menu loads due to numerous callbacks on download status from Steam. I might consider optimizing it later, but currently, it only affects players with more than a couple Resource Pack subscriptions and has minimal impact. Mostly this has just resulted in the realization that Steam callbacks are fairly expensive and should be used more sparingly.

1.32.2 (April 10)
 • Fixed the lag issues introduced in the 1.32.1 patch.
 • Increased the requirement of participation and vote percentage for vote bans to be successful, and increased the vote ban duration from 15 seconds to 25 seconds to hopefully get more responses.
