Movie World Developer Blog 6 - Awards

Hello everyone!

First of all, I would like to thank you all for taking the time to read my blogs 😊. Secondly, I realized that I made a mistake with my blog schedule statement. I have around 10 blogs left, where I still feel like I didn't reveal ¼ of the game. If I put out blogs every week, I will 100% run out of them before the final release. This, however, does not mean that the game is more than 5 months away. I simply want to exponentially release more and more content, including blogs, before the final release. So I decided that from now on, blogs will be released every two weeks on Tuesdays. I apologize, and I hope you understand.

Now I would like to introduce you the Awards in Movie World.

There are three types of awards. Studio Awards, Movie Awards, and Series Awards. Each award type has its own ceremony you can attend and watch. I tried to create each award ceremony unique by adding different music, colors, and effects.

Movie and Series Awards are overall quite similar in terms of how they work and will occur every 3 years. The algorithm will group all movies/series from the last three years in a separate list and compare their stats to find the best four that will later compete for the first place. Here I would also like to add that you actually don't need to attend the ceremony to receive the award. You can easily skip them, and you will still be able to receive the award if you won.

Movie Awards

Studio Awards, on the other hand, will occur every 10 years. Here, your studio will compete with other rival studios for the best studio of the last decade!

This is all for the awards. I don't want to spoil too much here, and all I can say is all of the awards will not only be cosmetic but will also be quite important in the last part of the game in a gameplay feature equal to movies/series and more.

I hope you and your family are doing well.

Have a great day! 😊

Movie World Developer Blog 5 - Studio pt.2

Hello everyone!

Today I want to go back and talk more about features regarding the main game building called "Studio."

The last section of the studio is called a »Loan.« In Movie World you can borrow a sum of money that is expected to be paid back with interest. Loan interest rates are always changing with time from 5-30%. There is also a dynamic sum limit, which depends on your own studio money.

The second to last section is »Finances,« where you get a small financial overview. You see a more in-depth look at profit, income, and expenses regarding the last year. There is also a small section where you can keep track of the income-profit differences for each year.

Now let's move on to some fun stuff 😊. In the section called »Market,« you can see your market share, which in Movie World shows you the size of your studio in an industry, populated by other rival studios comparing each studio renown levels, movies, and series. Market share currently becomes important in the mid-game when you start distribution, but it can also be used for competitive nature from the start of the game.

There is also a chance of me implementing the leaderboard system. Market share is the perfect way for me to determine your studio score, and I can use it to create a leaderboard where players would be able to compete against each other.

Have a great day!

Movie World Developer Blog 4 - Franchises

Hello everyone! This is a fourth blog post on the game called Movie World.

A franchise is a collection of related films in succession that share the same fictional universe.

In Movie World you can create, grow, and manage franchises. You can add any movie/series to the franchise in the pre-production movie/series phase. Franchises can be sold or used in the mid-game for distribution purposes. Popular franchises can boost your distribution and help you unlock new renown stars.

I didn't want to restrict a franchise to only one genre, so I created three types. This way, you will still be able to put different genre movies into one franchise if they have similar qualities.

Types:
-Alacrity: Good for high action movies
-Converse: Good for heavy dialog movies
-Intricacy: Good for complex movies

Don't worry. You don't have to learn weird franchise-type "names." They are only variable names :).

Good movies/series increase your franchise quality, fans, worth, and vice versa. Fans have a positive, big impact on series/movie views/box office sales. They will automatically go and see your screenplay but be careful! Bad movies/series will drove them away and also destroy your franchise. Next big element in the franchise is its age. Franchises will eventually get forgotten, and only time can bring them back with nostalgia factor.

Lastly, I added in a little sneaky feature. Let's just say there can be lawsuits involved with sold franchises 😉.

Have a great day!

Movie World Developer Blog 3 - Electricity

Hello everyone! This is a third blog post on the game called Movie World.

Today I will slightly touch on electricity.

Building and scenery objects in Movie World need electricity to run. Buildings that are out of power cannot be used. To get electricity, you will need to build a Power Plant. There are 6 levels to the building, and each level outputs more electricity. The power plant can also be upgraded with perks.
The latter can be researched through Research building and can be installed in buildings to get certain benefits.

The main purpose of electricity in Movie World is to help create a more balanced progression throughout the game and is helping me as a developer to better control the progress in a more »open« way rather than doing it behind the scenes.

Lastly, I want to give more information on the game itself. The main playthrough of the game is planned to be around 8 hours long. I decided that a shorter game with a better pace and less grind is a much better experience than a longer stretched out version. The game will also have a huge emphasis on the replay value as starting genres, rival studios, news, most events, awards are all random and are different in every playthrough.

Have a great day!

Movie World Developer Blog 2 - Studio pt.1

Hello everyone! This is a second blog post on the game called Movie World.

Today I want to go more in-depth on a few of the features regarding the main game building called "Studio."

You start the game by building a »Studio« where you can monitor most of your movie studio information. The whole building is divided into five sections. The first section is called an »Overview« and contains basic information such as your studio name, logo, studio renown, reputation, and environment.

The studio name and logo are in the game purely for cosmetic purposes and do not have an impact on the game.

Studio Renown is used for the main game progression. It is represented as six stars. Each gained star upgrades your buildings, attracts better actors, directors, unlocks new buildable objects, and building upgrades. Each star has its own set of goals that need to be achieved in order to unlock it.

Studio Reputation shows how much fans love and trust your studio. Higher quality movies/series increase studio reputation which boosts your movie box office and vice versa. Bad press posted in the newspaper from other rival studios can also ruin your reputation, while good press does the opposite.

And lastly, "Environment" objects increase the studio environment level. Some renowned stars require you to reach a specific environment level to be unlocked. However, this feature may still be expanded or changed.

Have a great day!
