Civilization 7 Steam reviews are low, but Firaxis' new patch shows there is hope

Eventually, Civilization 6 became the biggest and perhaps most-loved 4X game of its era. With its legacy more or less guaranteed now, it's easy to forget that at one time, Civ 6 had some pretty major shortcomings. The AI would constantly start wars and the user interface bombarded you with alerts and pop ups. The point being, over time, Firaxis made Civ 6 much better, and while Civilization 7 might be starting from a weaker launch, there is still every chance that it can become the strategy game that people want. Release day is here and Steam reviews are still down, but the new Civilization 7 patch may mark the beginning of a recovery.

Is Civilization 7 Steam Deck compatible? This latest 4X game from the iconic Sid Meier series follows its predecessor in being a fantastic game to play on the Steam Deck, but goes one step further in gaining official verification. However, once you're deep into a save and chasing world domination, the turns can get elongated as the dated hardware struggles with the demands.


The Civilization 7 system requirements always gave the impression that the game wouldn't struggle to run on the best handheld gaming PC, but compatibility isn't always about graphics. Luckily Civilization 7, like its predecessor, has controller support and adjustable text sizing, meaning it ports over well to the Steam Deck.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VII Review


Though I have been playing variations of strategy games all my life, taking on the review for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII felt a lot more intimidating than others. With an already extremely dedicated fan base, Civ VII went for a more welcoming approach, which is great for players who love 4X turn-based strategy games but aren’t familiar with Civilization games specifically. Unfortunately, a lot of the more hardcore fans may take issue with the new approach.





The basis for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is simple, in theory. Take over the world. No, not exactly. Civ VII allows you to carry on throughout history in three ages: the Antiquity Age, the Exploration Age and the Modern Age. These ages expand across thousands of years, allowing you to take your leader and parts of the world you helped create with you through each age.
