Update 1.7 - Major Balance Changes

Hey Everyone,

Hope everyone is doing well, and after a bit of a delay over the past few turbulent weeks, I`m glad to say that we are back to regular updates for Kingdom wars 4. Today we have a major update 17th that I wanted to take a bit of time to talk about.

Today`s update includes a lot of major rebalancing changes that were designed to make the game a lot more challenging and interesting to play. I`ve focused on fixing one of the major complaints we had - misusing personal time in ways to accumulate too many resources that greatly unbalances the game. Increase in difficulty was also possible due to improvement to the AI both on the campaign and world map, as well as a lot of balancing work for both the RTS and campaign modes. In addition there are a lot of fixes and smaller updates across the board as well.

As the work continues you can expect the 18th update sometimes in late April/early May. In addition I`ll be posting details on the upcoming Undead Rising DLC, with some screenshots and feature list later on this month, can`t wait to start sharing more details of this exciting DLC with our payers.

And now lets take a look at what this 17th update includes.

[h2]Changes and Additions[/h2]
  • Fixed various ways to exploit personal time to be unstoppable in the campaign mode
  • Balanced out all aspects of using personal time in early and late game
  • Campaign difficulty has increased quite a bit, especially for hard game mode in all regards
  • Silver Income is now 40% slower in campaign in all game campaign modes, and faster in Skirmish and PvP
  • Personal time accumulates a good deal slower each month
  • Silver and Stone Mine buildings upsets the town population a lot more time
  • Fully mining towns will result in an extremely upset town that player can`t even enter
  • Especially applies to silver mines
  • Upgrading to higher tier silver and stone buildings makes a lot more sense now, as they upset population just a bit more
  • Various improvements to how AI moves units on the battlefields and on the defense map
  • Campaign AI improved at how it sends armies from smaller and larger nations
  • Fixed two rare crashes when loading saved campaign map in saved battle
  • Finalized how armies and navies look on the world map
  • Armies are much easier to see and select on the world map
  • Improvements to performance to the world map when a lot of armies are around
  • Cavalry now take a lot less damage when running over units
  • Cavalry is now a lot more useful for hit and run attacks
  • Greatly increased the cost of upgrading towns with palisade and stone walls
  • Upgrading and defending towns is a lot more challenging with higher costs
  • Looting and razing towns gives more resources
  • Looting and razing lower level towns now gives significantly more resources to make it viable early game
  • Updated descriptions for various stone and silver mine buildings
  • Livestock animals now generate a bit less food/silver in all game modes

New Update Incoming

Hope everyone is well during these difficult times. Apologies for the lack of updates over the past two months, and I`m happy to say that I`m back to prioritizing KW4 updates, and just finishing work on the big update 1.17 that can be expected early next week.

As part of this update I`ve focused on fixing one of the major complaints we had - misusing personal time in ways to accumulate too many resources that greatly unbalances the game when used well. In addition there are some good improvement son AI and a lot of balancing work for both the RTS and campaign modes. All in all game will be a lot more challenging and interesting to play after this update. In addition there are a lot of fixes and smaller updates across the board as well.

Update 1.16 - Major Updates

Hey Everyone,

We have another major update today as we are continue development of Kingdom Wars 4. Today`s update includes redesigns of most of the large towns in game. Including full redesign of the inner town walls to full stone. In addition we spend a lot of time working on game`s translation - fixing issues in all languages across the board. We also took some time to improve the look of GUI - especially for these playing on lower screen resolutions.

You will also notice that we have updated the games logo, as well as some changes to the main menu. We are expected to bring you another very large update next week. Meanwhile wishing everyone who celebrates Happy Lunar New Year ahead.

And now lets take a look at what this 16th update includes.

  • Game logo updated to Kingdom Wars 4
  • Started a main menu redesign with updated art, more to come
  • New large buttons to easily find where to change language in the main menu
  • Improved town screen menu for world map with taxation rate text no longer overlapping
  • A lot of improvement to translation of the game - fixing various broken strings, text overlapping, translation issues and much more
  • All major towns now have inner stone walls instead of just tower that replaced the palisade walls
  • Major improvement to the look of GUI art - it looks much crispier and in higher resolution
  • Fixed issues effecting lower resolutions of 1600x and under where GUI art looked extremely pixelated
  • Major towns now have much stronger wall defenses with new inner stone walls effecting all game modes from skirmish to defending or besieging in campaign mode
  • Edited the wall design for town of Dover to complete inner stone walls
  • Redesigned town walls of Paris and other northern and desert towns using same template
  • Redesigned town walls of Nantes and other northern and desert towns using same template
  • Redesigned town walls of Caen and other northern and desert towns using same template
  • Towns with desert now properly show buildings with summer textures instead of snow during winter
  • Improved the look of desert hamlets during winter
  • Updated elite heavy foot knight description as they can`t heal other units
  • Gate Crank is larger and more visible for all types of gatehouses
  • World Map town changes - renamed Maidstone to Battlesbridge in the Kingdom of England
  • Update Toledo and Madrid historical and geographical inaccuracies on the world map
  • Major town renaming for towns in Spanish to be historically and geographically accurate
  • Made Barcelona town start larger on the world map in new campaigns as level 3 hamlet instead of level 1
  • Barcelona now has a larger visual representation on the world map
  • Disabled asking for email for new players

Update 1.15 - GUI and Visual Improvements

Hey Everyone,

Wishing everyone Happy New Year! And we are starting 2022 right with another sizable update. This update brings some much needed polish to the GUI, unit pathfinding, camera scrolling and more. In addition we worked on making world map look much better with better visuals, updated level design, and more eye candy.

Thanks for your continuous support and we`ll continue with another major update next week with a lot more improvements and additions.

With that said lets take a look at whats update 1.15 includes:

  • Big World Map update - a lot more eye candy and terrain features now
  • New improved world map lighting setup and better visual effects and shader use for the world map
  • Pathfinding and combat update - reduced delay when tasking large number of troops on the battlefield by 50%
  • Rescaled all the game interface on the default game GUI size without large GUI enabled
  • Majority of game font sizes have been increased on default GUI size
  • Fixed issue where game text was impossible to read on lower resolutions
  • Greatly improved Italian translation of the game thanks to our player contributor - Maggioriano
  • Map scrolling is now much smoother and faster
  • Zoom in and out is now much faster
  • Camera scrolls and zooms at the same speed on all game speeds now
  • Fixed a lot of issues with game camera jumping around on scrolling
  • Greatly improved scrolling and zoom in on the world map
  • Improved the look of world map armies and navies
  • Improved the look of world map town banners
