The Lights Out Update | Patch #8

Surprise! Early Release!

LIGHTS OUT

To celebrate the end of the 4 year early access period, I present Rocky Mayhem: Lights Out! This update brings atmospheric lighting, manual repairing mechanic, two new weapons, new gameplay changes and many fixes. Experience Rocky Mayhem in a new light, or lack of light that is, and destroy asteroids in a revamped fashion!
Customisation
Use Skin Code 'supporter' to unlock 2 skins, available until 24th June, 5pm BST
Lights Out brings a new feature I've been working on, customisation! You will now be able to unlock and equip skins from playing, and best part is that once you unlock them, you keep them! Featuring 21 skins on launch, as well as a seasonal skin which changes every season, there are plenty of options to choose from. More skins will come after launch, and there will also be exclusive codes you can enter to redeem skins. Which one is right above!
New Ability: Incinerating Beam
Introducing the highest-tech weapon the gunship has ever received. This beam demolishes everything in it's path, allowing you to dominate the battlefield. However with such a great advantage of 7 seconds of devastating power, comes a long recharge cycle of 1 minute 40 seconds. With this, and the recoil the weapon gives, can you handle it?
New Deployable: Plasma Field
Replacing the Energy Ball comes it's upgraded static version, the Plasma Field. The field is a circle which sits in your ship's current position, destroying and repelling any asteroid to come into distance. This device can last up to 10 seconds or it can be damaged beyond repair after 6 asteroids collide with it. The recharge cycle is 25 seconds.
New Mechanic: Manual Repair
Replacing the basic health pickups comes manual repairing! With the manual repair mechanic, you start the game with 3 repair torches in your inventory. To use one, click "R" to fill up the bar in the bottom left. Once filled, the ship will deplete that torch and regain 25HP.

Leaving Early Access on the 24th!

Hi everyone!

After 4 years, Rocky Mayhem is finally scheduled to fully launch out of Early Access from the 24th June 2024! It's been a long and tough journey, with the game's development being cancelled twice, and the game being fully remade on Unity, from Gamemaker Studio. However, just because it is coming out of Early Access does not mean development is over and there will never be any more updates. Although I would love to begin my next project, Rocky Mayhem still has a while a go until I am satisfied.

On the 24th, I will also be releasing Patch 8! This will bring the biggest balance update that has ever come to the game, with major changes to the core mechanics of the game. Currently, Patch 8 will feature a rework to the Health Pickup system that was introduced in Patch 6, 20 changes changing cooldowns, the points system etc., and major bug fixes! However Patch 8 is not fully complete and will feature even more changes by then!

Thank you all to the continuous support and see you on the 24th for Patch 8!

Patch 7.2 - Background Music, Difficulty Balances, Pause Revamp

Hi all!

Minor update today, as I continue to plan what is next for Rocky Mayhem. For now, development is limited as I cannot add anymore steam achievements and they play a big part in the campaign mode I have planned, therefore I cannot do anything else until the restriction passes.

However I have improved some minor parts of the game and fixed some issues!

Difficulty Scaling

Difficulty Scaling has once again, been changed as I found it too easy to start with even after 6 minutes. Below lists the new changes to make it more challenging and engaging!
The seconds reflect how long between each asteroid spawn
 • Level 0 - 2.95s → 3s
 • Level 1 - 2.75s → 2.7s
 • Level 2 - 2.55s → 2.4s
 • Level 3 - 2.35s → 2s
 • Level 4 - 2.25s → 1.7s
 • Level 5 - 2.15s → 1.4s, 1+ Asteroids per spawn
 • Level 6 - 1.75s → 1.4s , 1+ Asteroids per spawn
 • Level 7 - 1.55s → 1.1s
 • Level 8 - 1.45s → 0.9s, 1+ Asteroids per spawn
 • Level 9 - 1.15s → 0.8s
 • Level 10 - 1.05s → 0.7s
 • Level 11 - 0.9s → 0.65s
 • FREEPLAY - 1s → 0.9s, -1 Asteroids per spawn

Progression System

Along with Difficulty Scaling changing, progression has been changed very slightly also! These changes may make it hard for some players and if I receive too many complaints, this will all be reverted. The main cause for these dramatic changes is because Rocky Mayhem was made to be a hardcore rogue-like game and the remake has lost its challenge.
 • Level 0 - 0.6s Bullet Delay
 • [NEW] Level 1 - 0.45s Bullet Delay
 • Level 3 - 0.2s → 0.3s Bullet Delay, UNLOCK E.O.S
 • Level 5 - 0.1s → 0.2s Bullet Delay
 • [NEW] Level 6 - UNLOCK NUCLEAR FLASH
 • Level 7 - 0.08s → 0.1s Bullet Delay
 • Level 9 - 0.06s Bullet Delay

Patch 7.1 - Remake Playtest moved to Stable branch

Hi!

This minor update contains only two fixes, but marks the launch of Rocky Mayhem's Unity Remake onto the stable branch. The store page update is still a work in progress, and I'm working on a new replacement image for the game's page as well as a trailer.

But as the screenshots on the store page now represent the remake, the stable branch will now be where all future updates go. No longer needed to switch branches!
