Update #2 - Balances and Bugs

Hey guys! I've done some balancing, enhancements and bug squashing to make the game more enjoyable until the new content arrives on 12th June. Here's what's in-store:

[h2]Balances and Changes[/h2]
Plasma Ball
- Shoots immediately after right-clicking
- Has a cooldown of 4.5 seconds between each use
- Blows up after hitting 15 asteroids
- Movement speed increased
- Size decreased
- No longer destroys itself when it leaves the screen
Player
- Shooting speed increased
- Movement speed increased

- You can no longer load a save-game while in the session.

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
- 'Save' button appears on almost all impossible levels which caused the player to load the game onto Chapter 2 Level 5.
- One bullet shoots when pressing continue
- Ship moves when not clicking anything
- Holding down 'E' sets lives to one.

Brief Roadmap

Hey guys! So I've composed a brief and summarised road-map for what I want to add into the game at the end of each month in fortnightly updates before the end of Early Access. I hope this gives you guys an idea of what Rocky Mayhem will look like by the end of EA.

Once the next update releases, I'll create a more visually pleasing one but here's a summary of what I want to have in Rocky Mayhem by the end of every month.

[h2]May[/h2]
As May is almost over, and I'm currently on a Birthday break, I haven't really been able to get anything major done since the release update. Therefore, there will be a balance update coming to the game tomorrow changing a lot of how the game works. Patch notes will come out when the update is live.

[h2]June[/h2]
By the end of June, I want to focus on polishing the gameplay, making adjustments to different mechanics as well as adding new content. I've seen that some people have been able to complete the game in 5-10 minutes so I have a mission of adding; 10 new levels, 3 new asteroids, 2 new game modes (including 'Endless') and experimenting the possibility of having mass-scale maps to have a future 'Search and Destroy' mission type.

[h2]July[/h2]
For the end of July, I want to have a foundation built for enemy AI ships as well as adding a bit more enjoyment to the game where possible. The objective for July will be to add time-limited powerups and to complete Chapter 2 with; 2 new asteroids, a new weapon type, 5 new levels, 1 new boss battle and a cutscene. The game will also receive animations and a graphic overhaul in the backgrounds, asteroids and more.

[h2]August[/h2]
For the end of August, I want to bring what some of you have been waiting for... enemy ships! i want to bring it out in June/July but the thing is, to get the enemy ai perfected, I will need a lot of time to smooth it out. Anyways, august should be the final month of Early Access before they become monthly updates SO I want to add the upcoming expansion Rocky Mayhem: The Showdown. This will be the final major content for the game as I really want to move onto my next game. This update will include; 5 new levels, 1 final boss battle, 5 enemy factions and the Search and Destroy gamemode. In this expansion you can fight against the main villain who, instead of shooting bullets, shoots asteroids.

[h2]Future Plans[/h2]
As of September, I'll be joining a game design course so I'll be focused on college projects as well as starting the development of my platformer game. The game will also be leaving early access as I start the course. This means, once a month there will be an update containing; bug patches, balances, 3 new levels and level redesigns. By level redesigns, I mean on a monthly basis, all levels will be changed slightly to add replayablity. Some months there will be a few more asteroids, a few less or a complete change of spawn.

Rocky Mayhem Release Patch Notes

- 5 Brand New Levels for the Black Hole Realm

- You only have 1 life and a pistol. Make it count.

- Play the old alpha version of Rocky Mayhem now!
Added chargeable ability, Second Wind
- Press the E button to initiate a self-repair
- Fend off asteroids until the health regenerates
Added 2 new enemy factions
- Neptune's Atomic Bombs: Shoot one and you're in for a game over guarantee
Enchanced the camera system
- Rooms are now 1100x1100 instead of 700x700
- Camera follows player smoothly

- Press Space to pause the game for any reason.
- You can save, load and reset game data
Added options menu to the game
- You can now mute and unmute the music for Chapter 1
- You can enable and disable vsync if screen-tearing is an issue

Added new damage system for Chapter 1 [BETA]
- As some people complained about the room resetting (etc), when you get hit, the asteroid destroys itself but you are still in the same position and a sound plays.

- The ship now has different models for each stage of damage
- Different sprites for bosses to add a unique feeling to the gameplay

Increased Bullet speed
- Bullet speed increased by 0.1s
Nerfed Plasma Ball greatly
- Disabled in Level 3
- Speed is now 0.5x than previous
- You must now hold down right-click to charge it up
- It now takes 2 seconds longer to charge-up

[h3]Level Redesign[/h3]
- All levels have had a redesign to make it more fair on players
- Boss Asteroids spawn changes to avoid asteroid being off-screen for long periods.
- Asteroids spawn in different angles to stop the asteroids moving in the same rotation.

[h3]Bug Fixes[/h3]
- Game crashes when you restart
- Plasma ball phases through CH2 Big Asteroids
- Plasma ball does not destroy guardian asteroids
- Ship shoots when pressing continue
- Able to repair while pausing game
- Able to repair to 3 lives in Impossible mode
- Main menu text was pixelated
- New ship model was too difficult for avoiding asteroids
- Hitbox was too big for the size of the ship
- Blackhole level was in a higher resolution than the wind
- Asteroids clip through health bar
- When you die to a CH2 asteroid, you become invisible
- Pause menu text pixelates randomly
- Music doubles over
- Music stops entirely for no reason
- Clear Data can crash game

Enemy Update Delay

Hey guys.

So unfortunately due to massive issues in the code, the addition of enemies into the game is going to be longer than expected. Originally, they were meant for the steam release update but now it seems unlikely they'll be added for a while. To make up for this, I'll be hosting a giveaway on the SepStudios discord tomorrow so keep an eye out for that.

We are also going to redesign all levels and due to the absence of the enemies, we'll be extending the game by an extra 2 game-modes and 5 more levels. As there is only a small window of time to get these updates pushed out, the existing patch note content will be released on launch day and the content I just listed above will be released shortly after launch.

Please expect enemies to be added mid-June as my birthday is shortly after launch and I may need to re-program the entire game which will take 2-3 weeks.

Added new gamemode, Dodge 'Em
- Make your way back home by driving to the teleporters on each level. But be warned...
- Each level is infested with Neptune's Atomic Asteroids

- Raiders fly weak scrap ships which shoot slowly and shoot on sight
- IFB Officers fly heavily armored ships which bash into you to take you down
- Henchmen fly metal ships which shoot fast paced and chase you down

Added Neptune's Atomic Bomb
- Shoot one of these and let's just say... you've made your mission almost impossible.

Enchanced the camera system

- Very basic 'Paused' appears on screen to let you know.

- New sound effects for almost everything, making gameplay feel more interactive.
