Rocky Mayhem News

Development cancelled permanently

Hi guys, this will be the last ever announcement for Rocky Mayhem. I've been working on the remake for the past 8 months with a couple friends ready for a steam re-release as a free to play title with procedural map generation, voice-acted cutscenes and more, however we have decided as a group not to release this due to the controversy with Unity within the game industry. We've chosen to stand with the affected game developers and stop using Unity in total, moving onto Unreal Engine.

Along with this movement, we've decided to end complete development on Rocky Mayhem and ditch the project entirely. While we would like to remove this game from the steam store, our publisher would most likely not be happy with this so the game will be left as is. Whether we release our total progress of the 8 months is to be seen with what Unity executives decide to do.

I'm sorry for the false promises of getting a remaster out for you all within the last 3 years, just turned out to set extremely unrealistic goals. However I am now part of a new dev team for an unreal engine space game, so who knows! Might see ya'll around someday.

Thanks for the support!

Rocky Mayhem Remaster News!

Hi guys!

Sorry for the lack of communication, but I'm happy to say that I finally now have time to work on the remaster of Rocky Mayhem. This will remain a 2D game, however, it will be coming back as a Unity game started from scratch, with remastered graphics, various new mechanics and, the feature I teased for years now, enemy AI ships! One major change is that the game will not provide preset levels, nor will it operate using a "Point" system anymore. The game will work as a rogue-like with entirely generated levels, a new XP and unlock system, as well as asteroids now come to you, rather than just dodging them when they move randomly.

I cannot provide much information on Rocky Mayhem remaster's targeted early access date but most likely, I'll be aiming for Q4 2022 / Q2 2023. The first release will be bare bones with only 1 asteroid type and 1 enemy ship, however I'll be expanding as development goes on. The game may also be renamed to start the new journey.

Though I can confirm the development process has started, with already a working player ship, health and basic skill system implemented. I'll keep you all updated closer to the time!

Rocky Mayhem Update Rollback

Hi guys,

After recent findings, the version of Rocky Mayhem that has been out for a while has had issues, specifically with certain crashes and not being able to progress the tutorial. Until I've figured out what's wrong, I've rolled back the game to an earlier build. If you experience any bugs, please let me know in the discussions!

Kind regards,

Rocky Mayhem 3D remaster 2021!

Hi all,

It's been a while since Rocky Mayhem has died off and development was cancelled. I've missed working on the game and since the cancellation of the game, I've actually been working on something special...

In 2021 I will be releasing a free and major game-changing update for Rocky Mayhem which will forever change how the game is played. We will be converting to Unity and to a 3D game style. So I don't spoil much, here is what the update / remaster will provide;

- Complete conversion to 3D low-poly cube-based graphics
- Dynamic shadows and lighting system
- Third-person camera (First Person to be released in the future)
- Brand new uniquely designed sound effects
- Impact animations, thrusters and more.
- Voice acting by a cast
- Split screen multiplayer support
- 50 new levels

and much more. Please keep in mind as there will be a new graphical engine, the system requirements will be boosted massively. We recommend at least a GeForce GTX 960, 6GB RAM to run at high settings 1080p 120fps. This is subject to change

I will update you all every 3 months but I'm hoping to release Rocky Mayhem 3D by June 2021! Until then, keep an eye out for the Halloween update due for 25th October!

Rocky Mayhem's Development

Hey all,

So unfortunately after Update #5, Rocky Mayhem will no longer have content updates apart from new minor levels and limited time game-modes. Apart from adding more levels to the game, there will not be any new; items, enemies and such unfortunately. This is down due to losing our graphic designer so right now, I'm a lone developer and it's too much for me to carry with the effort of working on my new game, creating graphics for 2 games at once and programming 2 games at the same time.

Do not fear! I will try to do the best I can to make Update #4 and #5 worth the $1 you spent to help progress this game before we cancel development. Here's a brief summary of the next 2 updates (not including minor patches and such):
Update #4 - Coming July 2020
This update will be minor, adding; 2 new levels, 2 new asteroids, and experimenting the possibility of having mass-scale maps to have a future 'Search and Destroy' mission type. The reason for this update being so small is to prepare the game for major new content coming in August / September.
Update #5 - Coming August/September 2020
This fifth and final major update for Rocky Mayhem will be the biggest content update yet to, hopefully, thank you for supporting the game through it's short life span. This will add; time-limited powerups, a new asteroid, 10 new levels, AI-CONTROLLED ENEMY SHIPS, a new realm named "Intergalactic Federal Prison", 2 new platform-based parkour levels and the Search and Retrieve gamemode.
PATCH 1,2,3+
All future updates for Rocky Mayhem will be monthly adding 3 extra new levels, 1 new piece of content (such as new weapon) and bug patches to constantly make Rocky Mayhem an enjoyable place.

Thank you for being here throughout development. Rocky Mayhem started off just being a tutorial-based experiment which has now became my first major project and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Thank you all again,
Sep
