Quartet August Update Jamboree

Hi all,

Just wanted to send all of you a quick update. We have no specific topic we wanted to talk about, or area I'd like to show, so we think it'd be a good opportunity to do a bit of grab bag of screenshots. (The new stuff we are working on is heavy spoiler-filled and we want to save that for you when you play the game!) Speaking of which, we have just started work on Chapter 10 of 11. That means after this chapter is completed all we have left is the final dungeon and all the side and backer content. We are getting very, very close to releasing the game!

So without further ado, let's look at a collection of shots ranging from the very beginning of the game up through and including Chapter 9. I'll present them without any commentary, so you can let your imagination fill in the blanks!

Ok! That's it. Let me know in the comments if you enjoyed this style of update. As always, we sincerely appreciate all your support. Making JRPGs is the dream of this team and because of your support, we are making the best one we possibly can. We cannot wait for you to try it!

If you want to stay in touch, please join us on our discord and follow us on twitter. Have a great day!

Kickstarter Alpha Demo Now Available!

You may have noticed that we missed our monthly update in October. We were hoping to have our next update be a big one, and unfortunately we were not ready to announce. But we've made it in just the nick of time. So here goes: The first four chapters of Quartet are now available in an alpha build. If you are a backer, you can play them right now!

For instructions on how to play the first four character chapters, please view our Backer-only post over on Kickstarter

(If you are not a Kickstarter backer, you can still play the public Quartet demo on Steam)

Each chapter is an introduction to two characters. In Cordelia’s chapter, she is wrongfully implicated by a political scandal, and loses her position in the government. She decides to go out west—well, technically east—and lay down the law. Taking the mantle of sheriff, she tries to make a name for herself so that she can return to the capital in undeniable triumph. She happens upon Jerome, and then things take a very unexpected turn… for the worse.

In Ben’s chapter, he suddenly acquires magical powers, relatively late in life. Cool, right? Well, not if you accidentally blow up the restaurant you work at. Then you’re gonna be hard to employ, and rent is still due on the first of the month. A few people are willing to pay for his magical services. One of them is Agata, a “Phylaka,” whose job it is to monitor mages in Ben’s hometown. Slowly, we learn more about Agata and Ben, and what his powers might mean for his future.

In Nikolai’s chapter, he has just been promoted to staff sergeant, and placed in command of a squad of the glorious Seventh Border Guards. After roaming the wilds in pursuit of a barbarian raider, he watches as war breaks out between his country and their powerful neighbor. This shakes up his life, as wars often do. Soon, he and his squad find themselves ordered to perform highly questionable tasks in the subjugated city of Stral.

In Alexandra’s chapter, a personal tragedy leaves her family hurting—and her family business hurting even worse. Struggling to pay her bills, she turns to her brother Alvin, a small-time gangster. This decision plunges her into far more trouble than she imagined, when suddenly she is being pursued by other criminals, the police, and even a mysterious ghost. Is she simply destined for sorrow and stress? Or does the mysterious deck of magical cards she found hold the key to her future?

That should about cover it - I hope you all enjoy playing the demo! As always, wishlisting the game is the best way to support us now. Because of your support, our Steam wishlists are approaching 14k!! So please, continue to spread the word to friends about our game! Our game can only succeed with the help of all of you.

Also, we will be presenting a booth at MagFest again in Jan 2024. Please come by and say hi!

QUARTET ARRIVES TO KICKSTARTER

QUARTET ARRIVES TO KICKSTARTER
Classic turn-based indie RPG with tag-team mechanics
September 1st, 2021: Quartet, the second retro-inspired JRPG from games studio Something Classic, is live on Kickstarter now until September 30th, 2021. A spiritual successor to Something Classic’s 2017 release, Shadows of Adam, Quartet lets players control eight characters across four stories that gradually merge into one epic quest. Backers on Kickstarter can opt into a variety of rewards, from copies of the game to higher-level rewards like the chance to design epic gear, craft an NPC, or even write a whole quest! Join the campaign: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/somethingclassic/quartet-0

“Shadows of Adam was a success for us,” says producer Tyler Mire. “But we learned so much from the experience and the user feedback. We’ve put everything we’ve learned into Quartet to make it so much bigger and better than our last game.”

From the steampunk-inspired streets of Leornia, to the airship battles that rage on the battlefront of the Auslen Empire, Quartet takes players on an adventure they will never forget! Meet a remarkable cast of characters including a snooty mage, a disillusioned soldier, an irreverent cook, a troubled shop girl, a sentient water mammal, a dashing doctor, a magical cop, and an ancient golem. Collect oodles of powerful gear for your small army of protagonists, while unraveling an ancient conspiracy that literally reshaped the world centuries ago.

Features include:
 • Eight heroes with a unique roster of spells and abilities
 • Tactically deep tag-team combat
 • A sprawling, character-driven story
 • Tons of epic and imaginative loot

ABOUT QUARTET
Quartet begins with four separate chapters, playable in any order. In those four chapters, players meet eight unlikely heroes, and get to see how the stories intertwine into an epic narrative surrounding the war over the control of magic. In battle, players deploy four characters at any time, with the ability to instantly swap the other four characters in, tag-team style.

ABOUT SOMETHING CLASSIC
Something Classic is an indie studio with a passion for modern takes on the classic JRPG genre. Their previous game, Shadows of Adam, was a cult hit among retro JRPG enthusiasts and is available on Steam, Nintendo Switch and Sony Playstation 4.

Quartet is on Kickstarter from September 1st 2021 through September 30th 2021 at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/somethingclassic/quartet-0
