Devlog #10 Classic cars

We are huge fans of the 80s shows aesthetics. That’s why we decided to have fun and put some of the most iconic vehicles known from those shows into our game.

Sun, ocean, beautiful women and fast cars. Put on your best suit and drive into the sunset in this sports car.

Your name is not Michael but you can still drive his car. Maybe it can’t talk nor give clever comebacks but it’s still a great way to look awesome driving in the middle of the night.

What are your favorite 80s shows?

Devlog #9 The disguises

Getting inside houses, banks and other buildings doesn’t always require breaking in.
Sometimes just talking with people will help you with your job.

But wearing your standard clothes won’t get you anywhere.

That’s why you need to disguise yourself. Some tenants can be easily deceived by wearing simple electrician clothes. Just tell them there is a wiring failure.

There are other types of clothes that can help with hiding from sight, but you’ve got to respect the dress code! As an example, you want to wear black clothes in the middle of the night. Just don’t forget to change back later, you don’t want to look shady all the time.

These are just a few of many disguises available in the game. What kind of clothes would you like to see added?

Devlog #8 The jobs

To get to the top you’ll need to do more than just rob random houses.
You will do specific jobs that will give you not only money but also reputation in the criminal underworld.

Most of the jobs will involve stealing (that’s what the game is about, after all) but it’s not that easy. You need to learn a lot about the target: when is the best time to get in, what tools are needed and is there a dog guarding the place, or maybe a camera?

Other times you will steal cars. It’s more tricky because most of them will be parked in locked garages or behind a gate. The client will ask for a specific car and sometimes it’s the one harder to get.

Sometimes you will need to disguise yourself to infiltrate a bank, museum or even a mansion. Stealing data or jewelry is possible even without a backpack.

Those are just a few of many jobs (or quests if you prefer the classic naming) you will do in the game. If you have an idea for some cool stuff to do, let us know!

Devlog #7 The tools

A thief can’t do anything without his tools.
Of course he still needs to be clever on how to use them.

First one is the not so civilised hammer.
If you need something broken (like door handles) it can be quite useful.

Next one is the classic crowbar. If you need a window open it’s your tool of choice.

Most of the time you will want to get stuff quietly. For that you can use good old lockpicks. Mastering them is the key to fast heist.

If you’re not that good, there is always an easier tool. Automatic lockpick is a faster and better version of the standard lockpick.

From time to time you will need to cut some chains, there is no better tool than bolt cutters for that.

These are just a few of many tools that you can use in American Theft. What tools would you like us to add?

Devlog #6 The characters

Apart from stealing for money, players will meet interesting characters and possibly do some shady jobs for them.

One of the first “employers” will be a guy named Sly Ed. He usually hangs out in the Bar 66.
He’s not the biggest fish out there but he will be useful to get more contacts.

He’s also a manager of a heavy metal guitarist also known as Joel “The Spine Drinker”

On the other side of the law we have a vengeful Chief Wells.

And the man above him - mayor of Shady Woods, Roy McConnell. We all know that as a politician he must be righteous, selfless and law abiding citizen, right?

There are more interesting characters that our hero will encounter. Meanwhile, let us know what are your favourite characters from 80’s movies!
