Now it is time to reveal our first stretch goal.
Many centuries ago, after committing a grave sin of suicide, a scientist and mystic Zhong Kui went to Hell. Yama, the king of Hell, saw potential in him and offered him a job. Zhong Kui became a hunter of fugitive demons and ghosts and became able to travel between the world of the dead and the world of the living.
Zhong Kui repeatedly encountered phenomena that neither his mind of a scientist nor the knowledge given to him by the king of Hell could explain. Demons not belonging to these worlds. Souls that disappeared without a trace, not going to Hell, not starting a new cycle of rebirth, just devoured by some unknown force. Yama ordered to stop the search, but the curiosity of a scientist overcame the obedience of a servant of Hell.
In his search for an answer, Zhong Kui met immortal cultists who long ago exchanged Taoist wisdom for the teachings of the Old Gods. From them, he learned about cosmic horror, about Ancient Civilizations and Outer Gods, about power much more impressive than the ability to command hordes of demons and ghosts, about monsters who could not be killed by divine weapons of a demon hunter.
