New demo available!

The updated Against the Storm demo is now playable during Steam Game Festival. Try it out before October 13!

The new demo build has been improved since it was first available at Digital Dragons Indie Celebration. We would like to thank all players and Discord Pioneers for providing us with your accurate feedback. Keep those messages coming!

The main additions to the demo are a new event map and a new achievement, but that's not it! You will experience art improvement, bug fixes, and balance changes. You can check the full list of changes (compared to the last demo) down below.

[h3]New achievement & (same) Discord role[/h3]
We have added a new achievement to the demo: We've had one, yes. What about a second demo?
To unlock it, you must win the game with only 3 or fewer Orders completed.

Once you get the achievement, please contact us on Discord to get a special Pioneer role, which will grant you various benefits in the future.

  • Added new event map
  • Added new achievement: We've had one, yes. What about a second demo?
  • ⚡ You now have 10 points to spend when starting a New Game. In addition to buildings, you can now pick resources and extra villagers.
  • Traders are now more predictable.
    - They won’t ever leave the village when seasons change.
    - You can now check what goods is the Trader interested in by clicking on the Trading Post. The most valuable goods are different each time the Trader arrives.
  • Added additional alert and an icon above the Farm when it has no access to Farmfields.
  • Added icons above buildings that have no access to the resource they’re gathering or they’re too far away from the resource to be efficient.
  • Rebalanced meta progression. Apart from blueprints, you can now also unlock essential buildings that will always be available.
  • ⚡ Added a new road type: Path.
    - Cost: free.
    - Speed increase: 5%.
  • Added new orders.
  • ⚡ Added new perks (including an effect which is slowing down the Queens’ Impatience, as suggested by the community)
  • ⚡ Updated and fixed the map - glades are no longer placed on the edge of the map.
  • Glades can now contain buildings, even those you didn’t pick when starting the New Game.
  • ⚡ Added a map description before starting a New Game to make it easier to pick appropriate buildings.
  • Added new music tracks for each season.
  • Improved visualization of how villagers’ Resolve is contributing to the Reputation (new tooltips).
  • ⚡ Notifications now differentiate between villagers leaving and dying, while also giving some overall reason for the event. It should now be much easier to understand what happened to a villager.
  • Villagers are now more talkative when clicked on. They will suggest what are their needs or what they are happy about.
  • Added new portraits for each species.
    - Every villager now has a female counterpart in the city (sadly, it’s only in the Villager panel, as there are no separate portraits and models yet, but the work is in progress ❤).
  • Added a new tutorial: Reputation for resolve.
  • Added trade-off perks.
  • Each resource now has a value indicator in its tooltip.
  • Fixed a bug whereby the Back button would stop working and the game would stop responding to clicks on the map.
  • Fixed bug whereby sometimes the glade with a building on it wouldn't reveal completely.
  • Rebalanced Glades' rewards.
  • Rebalance the Lumber Mill.
  • Made Brewery cheaper in-game.
  • Added Resolve & Needs Screen that should help better understand how Resolve, Stagnation, and Needs work and what’s their impact on your Reputation
  • Added new perks
  • Game-wide rebalance of needs, productions chains perks, and effects
  • Various other balance changes.
  • Various other graphical improvements.

We were extremely surprised to see the amount of feedback we got from you when Against the Storm demo was available for the first time at Digital Dragons.

Here are some cool facts:
  • You added almost 100 suggestions and more than 60 bug reports on our Discord Server
  • You filled 240 surveys
  • You made 6 people smile.

To prove we’re actively reading your messages, we decided to create a public Trello board with bugs reported by the players:

You can track the progress of us ironing them out. Please be aware that we might decide not to fix some of them right away for various reasons, such as:
  • Lower priority
  • A possibility that the affected system might be modified or dumped in the future
  • Other.

Some of the bugs have already been fixed. Some have not yet been added to the board as we’re still in the middle of analyzing your feedback and working on the new demo at the same time. But you can expect it to be continuously updated with time.

Demo update



[h3]Greetings, Citizens![/h3]
We have just released a Demo Update with fixes and changes directly inspired by your feedback. Check out the full changelog below, while the update downloads.

[h3]Changes:[/h3]
  • The restart option in the in-game menu was temporarily disabled - we are investigating the problems with buildings not being picked after a restart
  • Species’ Resolve Bar colors now represent the Resolve state more accurately. Instead of arbitrary values, they now show two thresholds. When Resolve is below the left threshold, units can die. When Resolve is above the second threshold, Reputation grows passively. When Resolve is between both thresholds, nothing happens
  • Increased visibility of Reputation prompts to emphasize the cause of Resolve changes (like a villager’s death or a completed Order)


Resolve thresholds

[h3]Balance:[/h3]
  • Added additional 5 charges to all food nodes
  • Added more starting goods in each game
  • Lowered the Resolve thresholds needed to start the passive gain of Reputation
  • Slightly increased the reputation growth based on the Resolve
  • Shortened the food collection times by 1s

[h3]Fixes:[/h3]
  • Fixed an issue whereby arrows sometimes showed a change in Resolve, when there was a modifier close to 0
  • Fixed a bug where mushroom fields would sometimes not sprinkle up during the seeding process
  • Fixed a bug whereby buildings unlocked when reaching the last level wouldn't be available for picking in the next game
  • Corrected the name of the Small Farm
