Devlog #02: Swinging with the Mace!



Hello Hellsweepers!

We have more exciting features this month! We will be swinging in with a weapon: The Mace. Be sure to check out the video to have a look at its potential.

With the Mace, you can drag enemies towards you...


...or drag yourself towards them.


You also get to swing it around! Flailing weapons have been requested for awhile and we got it!

Mastering the Axe and More Updates!



Hey Hellsweepers!

We hope everyone had their fill with Hellsweeper VR’s Alpha Demo! The team is now at work improving and implementing mechanics based on your suggestions. As we mentioned, we will be showcasing our progress to let everyone know what’s cooking in the oven.

[h2]Axe Carnage[/h2]

In Hellsweeper VR, one of the core objectives is to gain mastery of a wide range of weapons and elemental magic. That's why "skills and abilities'' will be a regular part of our dev updates.

Let's begin the series with a weapon that wasn't available during our Alpha Demo - The Axe.

The Axe is a melee weapon which has two forms, and can be swapped on the fly, allowing you to adapt according to the situation. Its default, two sided form is quicker and reacts faster, whereas its second one sided form does more damage and range at the cost of speed.

Butcher your enemies with a forceful swing.

Throw the whole thing if you've got a good aim and retrieve it using telekinesis.

Or unleash blade waves like a boomerang.

We’ve also started working on the soundtrack to match the fast-paced, beat dropping gameplay of Hellsweeper VR! We’re currently testing a new mechanic that triggers a more intense version of the battle music when you’re able to maintain a solid combo streak.

[h2]Flexible Reload Mechanics[/h2]

Some of you brought up that it’s quite challenging to manually reload the gun especially during the heat of battle. While we’re keeping this mechanic in the game, we’re introducing an easier way to reload.



You can acquire and equip an “Auto-Reload” trait. Summoning bullets will no longer be mandatory, and you are free to fire away as much as you like.

We’re curious - Do you prefer manual or automatic reloading?

Cast Your Votes: Concept Design for 'The Matron'



Hello Hellsweepers!

Alpha Demo closes fairly soon and we hope you have all gotten your fill of action in Hell. If not, don't worry, there is still some time left! The final date to play our Alpha Demo is 31st of January.

[h3]Which concept do you like better? [/h3]
Meanwhile, we're hoping to get your thoughts on some of our concepts. We're presenting two potential designs for one of our enemies: Lust - "The Matron" (working name)



Concept: The Matron (creature) is a manifestation of sexualized gender expectation and exploitation. It was crafted to be 'perfect' - wild yet subjugated, curvaceous yet starved, powerful yet enslaved. Eventually, it was a masterpiece that devoured its creators.

Mechanics: The Matron has a special mechanic that it involves a relentless headless body and a very angry decapitated head.

Last 2 Weeks to Play Hellsweeper's Alpha Demo + Some Sneak Peeks!



Hello Hellsweepers,

On behalf of the Hellsweeper VR team, we would like to thank everyone for participating in our Alpha Demo!

Community feedback plays a huge role in helping us mold Hellsweeper VR into a game that YOU would love to play. And based on the hundreds of responses that we received, it’s humbling and encouraging to know that an overwhelming number of you seemed to have enjoyed the demo and are excitedly looking out for the full game launching Q3 this year.



[h2]Your Feedback[/h2]
During the past few months, we've read each and every one of your comments and suggestions, and zoomed in on the requests that were frequently brought up like alternative reloading mechanics, better weapon feedback, improved enemy AI, more accessible and intuitive controls across various devices and more.

A few of you also pointed out issues with underwhelming sound effects, lack of music and a couple of odd-looking graphical assets -- but don’t worry, most of these were either placeholders or still under production.

Lastly, we’d like to assure you that although the demo was only playable using select PCVR devices, Hellsweeper VR will be available on various PC and mobile VR headsets during and after its launch.

[h2]What’s in the oven?[/h2]
Since we released the demo in September 2021, our team has been diligently making all the fixes and working on some really awesome suggestions from the community. We've also gone full-speed on development and have started swapping out early placeholders with the final assets. Here’s a quick one, with more surprises to come soon!



Along with content, we've also been fine-tuning the gameplay mechanics.

Sometimes, enemies are determined to take you with them. Minions now crawl to you with determined passion whenever their upper body remains. This makes you more aware of your surroundings and ensures you keep them down for good.



Many of you suggested adding elemental variants of the enemies to complement the player's elemental magic skill tree. We heard you!



We're still working on the rest of the gang but here are some previews. Elemental enemies don't just come with elemental abilities and resistances, they also have some unique attacks that require different offensive and defensive strategies to weed them out.



[h2]Last 2 weeks to play the Alpha Demo![/h2]
Finally, as we focus all our energy and resources into making sure that we deliver a kickass game -- and hopefully, on time! -- we would also like to announce the closing of our alpha demo. The last day to access and play the alpha demo will be on 31st January 2022.

But don't worry. We’ll be actively updating and sharing progress of the game, such as content and gameplay sneak previews, with the community so don’t forget to regularly check our Steam forum or join our discord channel. In the meantime, you can check out our development roadmap here. We'll update the scope and content as we go along.

Hellsweeper VR’s full release is scheduled for Q3 2022.
