It's been about 4 years since we first started working on Hellsweeper VR, and your support has been an incredible driving force for our team amidst all the ups and downs. [h3]Hotfix Notes for 1.2.1[/h3]

Available on all platforms. *Except Pico, which will be rolled out soon.
  • Resolved an issue where Auxiliary skill levels would be reset.
  • Resolved an issue where 'Smooth Rounds' Trait is not working as intended.
  • Fixed bug where players cannot perform a somersault until they touched the ground.
  • Fixed bug where the mace's chain length is reduced.

Hi Hellsweepers,

Patch 1.2 has arrived on all platforms!

In this patch, we've got another long list of QoL, balance tweaks, and progression improvements lined up for you. Exploding enemies giving you trouble? They’ll now drop bombs as a warning, giving you more time to react.

We've also fine-tuned hand offsets for a range of weapons like the bow, axe, shotgun, and rifle based on your invaluable input. While it's not included in this patch, we're brewing something exciting for multiplayer and will soon launch a beta. So, stay tuned for more updates on our Discord, and we can't thank you enough for your unwavering support.

[h3]Camera and Controls[/h3]

  • Added Gore option in multiplayer
  • Added option to rotate the camera by 15 degrees.
  • Added option to completely disable dash/teleport on the thumbstick.
  • Added option to end Bullet Time when a dash, jump, or somersault is performed.
  • Added option to use the trackpad instead of thumbstick click for Valve Index devices. [PCVR Only]
  • Added option for delayed grip to release objects after a short amount of time.
  • Added option for Bladewave Aim-Assist, the bladewave will fly towards where the headset is facing.
  • Improved the hand offsets when using the Bow, Axe, Shotgun, and Rifle.
  • If the system does not detect any Pause Menu bindings, the player must simultaneously press both top buttons to access the Pause Menu. [PCVR Only]


[h3]User Interface and Experience[/h3]

  • Added Player ID into the profile page
  • Added text for region and number of players in the MP canvas.
  • Added current region and player count in the Connected MP canvas.
  • Extended the connection time to the MP server before timing out.
  • Added a cancel button when waiting for a connection from the MP server.
  • Added a page for Augments to show the progression for skills.
  • Added a UI pop-up that explains what happens when the player leaves a run.
  • Removed the Lobby button..


[h3]Gameplay Improvements:[/h3]
  • Barrels will explode when they are shot.
  • Players can now fan the pistol while their other hand is occupied.
  • The enemy health bar will change color to reflect its status, indicating whether it is invulnerable, blocking, or has shields.
  • Updated somersault, somersaulting will provide better angles for easier attacking.
  • When a golden totem is broken, it will spawn a golden wisp that will fly to the closest treasure chest.


[h3]Progression and Balance:[/h3]
  • Auxiliary skills no longer gain mastery when their respective skills gain mastery. Auxiliary skill crystals have been added.
  • Both Gluttony and Fire Minion's thrown projectile have been changed to a bomb, exploding only after a delay
  • Challenger's Token has been added as part of the Shop. Challenger's Token grants the bearer another life during a run.
  • Decreased the amount of souls required to rank up a skill.
  • Explosive Death has been changed to enemies to drop a bomb upon death.
  • The Hellhound can now be infused with elemental power by infusing its toy.
  • Increased the duration of the Hellhound's Elemental infusion.
  • Increased the upper limit of Unarmed combo from 5 to 7.
  • Mana cost is slightly reduced when 'Pumping Iron' is active.
  • Magic explosions like the Fireball will damage Corruption's Rings when it is tired.
  • Melee weapons now have improved health regeneration and will leech a percentage of the damage to health.
  • Players can now activate AOE Magic by pulling 1 magic orb apart with both hands while holding down the trigger.
  • Reduced enemy projectile speed based on difficulty.
  • Rearranged the order of the skills unlocked:
    • Frost Magic is now unlocked at level 3, previously level 5.
    • Axe is now unlocked at level 5, previously level 7.
    • Bow is now unlocked at level 6, previously level 8.
    • Volt Magic is now unlocked at level 8, previously level 10.
    • Unarmed is now unlocked at level 10, previously level 11.
    • Shotgun is now unlocked at level 12, previously level 13.


[h3]Bug Fixes and Optimization[/h3]
  • Fixed bug where the client receives more resources in MP.
  • Fixed bug where Forged Traits in Challenge Mode are not gold in color.
  • Fixed bug where the player's dash does not reach the destination during Bullet Time.
  • Fixed a bug where certain Trophies (A Bloody Sweep and Secrets of Suffering) couldn't be unlocked. [PSVR2 Only]
  • Optimized Laser/Haze/Charge magic which causes Quest users to Crash. [Quest Only]

Beta: Calling for Hellsweepers to test the extended Co-op experience!


Hey Hellsweepers!

First and foremost, we'd like to thank you for all your suggestions and feedback here and on our Discord. We're thrilled to announce that, behind the scenes, we've been working hard on some big improvements. Now, we're reaching out for your help to test and perfect some of the exciting new features!

[h2]Content of the Beta: Extended Co-op Experience & Stability Updates[/h2]
This Beta is centered around testing multiplayer stability and expanding the game from 1 act to 2 acts. Our eventual goal is to get to 3 acts to match the single-player experience.


Besides multiplayer, we're also introducing QoL changes, balancing improvements (e.g. Exploding Enemies will now have timed instead of instant detonation!), and more surprises. Dive into the full patch notes on the in-game notice board.



[h3]Important Notes for Beta Participants:[/h3]
  • Expect some imperfections, as this is a Beta version. Encountering bugs is part of the process.
  • Planning multiplayer sessions with friends? Make sure everyone is on the Beta version to avoid connection issues. Instructions on how to switch to BETA are below.
  • You will start at Level 10 on BETA. This is to ensure you have access to most of the earlier skills. This will not affect your progress in the public branch.
  • XP gained in the Beta remains in the Beta; it won't transfer to your main game profile.
  • This Beta version is focused on multiplayer. Single-player modes are temporarily unavailable but you'll be able to see some updates that also apply to single player modes in the multiplayer runs.

It’s a great chance to get a firsthand look at what's coming up and to actively contribute to making Hellsweeper VR even better.

[h3]How to opt into the Beta[/h3]
Beta testing is only available to PCVR [Steam] users and Meta Quest 2/3 users. To access the Beta on Steam, please refer to the following steps:

  1. Right click Hellsweeper VR in your library.
  2. Select Properties > Beta
  3. In the dropdown menu, select (Beta) Extended Co-Op






[h3]Returning to Live Build[/h3]
To revert to the live build, simply follow the instructions above until you reach Step 3. At that point, instead of selecting the beta build from the dropdown menu, choose 'None'.



[h2]How to give your feedback[/h2]

The best place to give your feedback will be on our Discord. Head to the #support channel under the Hellsweeper VR tab. There, you'll find a pinned thread labeled [2 NOV 2023: MULTIPLAYER BUILD BETA]. Please use this thread specifically for your feedback on the Multiplayer Build Beta.

If you'd like to share your thoughts and suggestions after experiencing the extended co-op with a friend, feel free to share them in the comments section.

If your feedback is related to connection issues, it'll be helpful to our team if you could follow the following format in your report:
  • What was the message or error encountered?
  • Did you use any third-party apps or VPN?
  • Please provide us with your Player Name. You can find this info in the in-game profile page.
  • Please share your region/state. We want to make sure the game is pinging the right / nearest servers.

Patch 1.1 is now Live!


Hey Hellsweepers!

We have some good news for everyone: Hellsweeper VR’s first big update has arrived. This patch includes the much-anticipated adjustments to XP balancing, including a fix for a bug that caused reduced XP gains in co-op mode. Additionally, there's bHaptics support for PCVR, improved co-op fixes, and overall difficulty balancing.

We’ve also added some more accessibility options and added in some QoL adjustments - the beetle will hang back a bit more now!

[h3]Improvements to the Visuals & Overall Experience[/h3]

  • Added bHaptics support [PCVR only]
  • Added an option to adjust the Beetle's guidance.
  • Added an option to adjust the Quick Reload settings for the Pistol.
  • Added controller rumble when the hand is at the shoulder position when using 'Over the Shoulder' bullet spawning.
  • Added visual and audio cues when a skill is ready to be ranked up in the Result Panel.
  • Updated the dash indicator to be more precise.
  • Updated the movement of the Spectator Camera.
  • Reduced the step height of the player.
  • Reduced the sensitivity of conjuring weapons to prevent the wrong weapons from being conjured.
  • Improved the detection for the activation of Rock Split.
  • Lowered the hand height needed to perform a somersault.
  • Air Dash will now only be triggered if the player is in a jump, small jump, or somersault. If the player walks off a ledge, the player needs to be at least 1 meter off the ground.
  • Adjusted the mission skill icon button's effect when selected.
  • Improved the visibility of mini homing projectiles.
  • Forged Traits are now displayed in gold color.
  • Fixed a visual bug where the screen displayed a black effect on the top half when using the Recording Camera in certain maps.
  • Simplified the text of 'Magic Overflow' to make it easier to understand.


[h3]Progression, Balancing and Difficulty[/h3]

  • Wrist UI will now inform players about the Sacrifice Altars progress percentage during Sacrifice missions.
  • Additional enemy spawning is disabled in Boss Battle when the difficulty is Normal or below.
  • Removed the XP reduction penalty when the player dies or abandons the run.
  • Default rate of XP earned for skills from 1% to 5%.
  • Increased the amount of souls earned when the player dies in Roguelike from 10% to 15%.
  • Increased the amount of souls earned after completing Act 1 from 25% to 30%.
  • Increased the damage dealt on inactive totems from 200% to 400%, making them easier to destroy.
  • Decreased the projectile count and damage of Frost Envy.
  • Reduced the damage and frequency of meteors in the Falling Meteors map modifier.
  • Reduced the damage and range of the Explosive Death map modifier.
  • Reduced the number of attacking totems in lower difficulties.
  • Fixed a bug where players were not receiving XP from enemies.
  • Fixed a bug where enemies were spawning too frequently in Boss Battle.
  • Added 50% health regeneration when using the 'Pumping Iron' blessing.
  • Forged Traits have a 10% chance of appearing when adding a trait.
  • Reduced the duration of 'Hang Time' from 2 seconds to 1 second and decreased damage taken while in 'Hang Time' by 20%.


[h3]General Bug Fixes[/h3]

  • Fixed a bug where the player gets stuck in infinite bullet time when out of bounds during a somersault.
  • Fixed a bug where the forging requirements for 'Phantom Thief' were incorrect.
  • Fixed a bug where the forging requirements for 'The One And Only' were incorrect.
  • Fixed a bug where 'Out of Ammo, Not Options' did not trigger when empty guns were thrown against the environment.
  • Fixed menu buttons not being interactable (grayed out) when there is no internet connection.
  • Fixed a bug where the Mace's chain material was missing. [PSVR2 Only]


[h3]Multiplayer Bug Fixes[/h3]

  • Fixed an issue where Phantom Limb swords did not fire energy projectiles.
  • Fixed an issue where firing a shotgun with the Easy Unload or Single-Action traits would not be shown firing when observed by other players.
  • Fixed an issue where other players could not see you casting a radial blast.
  • Fixed an issue where other players could not see you casting a bloody lance.
  • Fixed an issue where other players could not see the bloody ghosts when you dropped a blood magic orb.
  • Fixed an issue where other players could not see you casting Storm Caller or Storm Lord.
  • Fixed an issue where other players firing a ki release would be shot in the wrong direction.
  • Fixed an issue where players casting rock split with the More Rocks trait would still only summon 1 rock.
  • Fixed an issue where another player's hellhound's elemental material was not swapped in when infused.
  • Fixed an issue where another player's weapon or held items would jitter in the air when transitioning from held to telegrabbed.
  • Fixed an issue where enemy limbs or weapons would despawn randomly.
  • Fixed an issue where slotting 2 keys into the same keyhole simultaneously would despawn both keys, unlocking only one lock.
  • Fixed an issue where spawning the hellhound on the stairs in the shop map would cause the hellhound to be stuck in a perpetual fall.
  • Fixed an issue where thrown axes dealing the death blow would cause the weapon to despawn along with the enemy body.
  • Fixed an issue where players couldn't see other players petting the hellhound properly (with the hand appearing to hover).
  • Fixed an issue where weapons would break suddenly without entering a low durability state.
  • Fixed an issue where the weapon levels and stats of weapons spawned by players differed from each other.
  • Fixed an issue where guns dealt more damage than intended.
  • Smoothed out enemies' rubberbanding due to lag.
  • Fixed an issue wherein the boss altar failed to spawn.
  • Fixed an issue where attempting to pet another hellhound after the first one had despawned could result in unintended hand-breaking.
