Halloween 2024

Halloween 2024

Spooktober is here, and Halloween spirit has taken over Gielinor! This year's Halloween event screams "Pumpkin spice and all things SUS"! South Falador is brimming with pumpkins and Jack O'Lanterns, where both new and familiar faces await... but this year, you'll need to make the spooky even spookier. You may also notice some stinking cute details long the way...

Getting Started
Here’s what awaits you when starting the Halloween event:

This year, you’ll meet Marika, a lady who loves farming, and hear her story. After losing a loved one who loved cats, she put her Farming skills to good use and created a cat portrait by planting pumpkins as a tribute. But doesn't it look a bit off?

Visit the farm south of Falador to see Marika’s pumpkin portrait for yourself, and help her make it purrfect!
Rewards
As always there are some wicked rewards for you to keep!

First up, you can earn the Scarecrow Shirt to celebrate Halloween in freakin' good style!

This year you’ll also receive a customisable Pumpkin Head, which lets you pick the colour and expression of your choice! Are you an o.O or more of a *w*?

You’ll also unlock a Scarecrow to display at your Player Owned House – and again, you can customise it with the colour and expression of your choice! You can place the Scarecrow anywhere in your POH, just like the Wintumber Tree. The perfect way to welcome your guests to a Halloween shindig!

Lastly, you can also unlock all the rewards from previous Halloween events. Speak to Diango in Draynor to claim them!
Varlamore: Rising Darkness Combat Achievements
Varlamore: The Rising Darkness has been live for three whole weeks, so you’ve had plenty of time to get to grips with the new bosses. It’s time to up the challenge with some Combat Achievements!

You may now take on 11 new Combat Achievements for Hueycoatl, and 9 for Amoxliatl, ranging from Medium to Grand Master.

Hueycoatl Combat Achievements

Amoxliatl Combat Achievements

Aside from these much-anticipated Combat Achievements, we’ve also been working to make your gameplay experience smoother across Varlamore. This week brings the following improvements:

  • Caviar and Roe can now be added to a Reagent Pouch and wearing the Prescription Goggles can now save them when making Barbarian Potions.
  • Fixed a bug where Huasca Potions (unf) couldn't be stored within Potion Storage or be made via Zahur.
  • All new items from Varlamore: The Rising Darkness are now useable in Death's Coffer, provided they are tradeable and meet the 10,000 GP minimum value.
Wintertodt & Other Changes
Thousands of you have been huddling around the Wintertodt following its big update last week! We appreciate all the kind words you've shared with us, as well as your valuable feedback.

'Scapers who go for solo Wintertodt have voiced that restoring a Pyromancer is less lucrative after the update, since you only use one potion now. To compensate, we’ve increased the points per Pyromancer healed from 30 up to 75.

Some of you also reported having a hard time telling the difference between your cold hitsplats and those of your Woodcutting comrades. We’ve adjusted some settings so that other people’s cold hitsplats now appear a bit darker than yours, so it should be easy to tell when you’re being hit.

We hope these changes make your Wintertodt journey even better! As always, we'll be keeping an eye on your feedback - so let us know how you find these changes!

We'll begin with a change we know you've been eagerly awaiting: a fix for PvP Arena matchmaking!
We’ve adjusted the PvP Arena matchmaking system to ensure that matches occur more frequently, by grouping players into two groups:

  • Lower ranks consist of Bronze, Iron and Steel, and they'll be matched with each other.
  • Higher ranks consist of Mithril, Adamant, Rune and Dragon, and they'll also be matched with each other.

We’ve also fixed a bug where your assigned opponent would simply fail to show up to the match. No excuses now!

For context, this was not an easy fix to make. Working with such a complex system took some time. We appreciate your patience and sincerely apologise for the delay. As always, we'll continue monitoring your feedback and can make further improvements if necessary, so let us know how you get on!

Some other notable fixes:

  • The warning message about placing all your finds in the Varrock Museum crate can now be disabled permanently.
  • A pop-up chatbox message for house-breaking in Civitas illa Fortis has been replaced with a less intrusive game message that can be spam-filtered.
  • Superior Slayer Creatures will now consider spawning elsewhere if they cannot spawn in tight spaces due to their size. It should now be drastically more likely to succeed.
PvP Rota
The PvP rota has moved to Period A:

  • 539 - (US) - PvP World
  • 318 - (UK) - Bounty Hunter World
  • 548 - (Germany) - High-Risk PvP World
  • 577 - (US) - Free-to-Play PvP World
  • 559 - (UK) - LMS Competitive

World 390 (AUS) for LMS Competitive has been activated with this rota.

World 569 (AUS) for Bounty Hunter has been activated with this rota.

The PvP Arena is using 'Maxed Med' loadouts in Ranked Duels and Tournaments this week.

Old School RuneScape dev Jagex has a new survival game, and you can sign up now

RuneScape developer Jagex has revealed a little more on its new survival game set in the RuneScape universe, and you can sign up to playtest it right now. While details on this new game are slim, it was announced in 2022, and we know it'll be built in Unreal Engine 5. We also know that the initial test at least will be exclusive to PC. Whether you're an OSRS devout or simply looking for a new rival to Sons of the Forest, Rust, and the other genre giants, this might be for you.

Changelog - October 9th

[expand]
Wintertodt Updates are Here!
• Warmth Meter has replaced Hitpoints as the resource you need to keep topped up. This means that the Wintertodt's basic and special attacks do damage to your Warmth instead of HP.
  • Two new sets of Sprouting Roots (one on each side) are added to the lobby, which can be used to gather Bruma herbs.
  • Picking Bruma Herbs in Wintertodt no longer grants Farming XP. The reason for this change is to avoid introducing extremely low-effort, on-demand Farming XP methods.
  • Added a 'Drink' option to the Rejuvenation potion which will restore 30% of your Warmth per dose, totaling 120% for the full potion, meaning you'll be able to keep yourself topped up indefinitely if you'd like.
  • To prevent accidental potion-consumption, we've added a left-click 'Help' option to the Pyromancers.
  • Incorporated various additional sources of regeneration into the Warmth system, such as Heal Other, Redemption, the Regen Bracelet and the Hitpoints cape.
  • The following items now all count as Warm Clothing:
    • Wolf Mask
    • Earmuffs
    • Cap and Goggles
    • Woolly Hat
    • Bobble Hat
    • Jester Hat
    • Tri-Jester Hat
  • Added a slightly longer cooldown on being interrupted by the Wintertodt's basic attacks while fletching your Bruma roots into kindling, so that you'll be guaranteed to fit a few fletches in before being interrupted and not have to deal with a string of interruptions that do little beyond frustrate you.
  • Converted Supply Crates to the Reward Pile: For every crate you would have earned or every roll you would have gotten (in cases where you might obtain a significant number of points and therefore have a crate with multiple loot rolls), you'll get another search added to the Reward Pile.
  • You can now track how many rewards you’ve claimed from Wintertodt directly in the Collection Log under the Wintertodt tab.
  • When you enter Wintertodt, a Warm Clothing indicator message will appear in chat, notifying you if you're below the four-piece Warm Clothing cap.

  • Players can no longer prevent being kicked down the mountain when the Hueycoatl fight restarts.
Mastering Mixology Changes
• We're rebalancing Mastering Mixology to better reflect the time and effort involved. You'll now get bonus points for submitting multiple potions at the same time. Here's how it works:
    • An extra 20% bonus for submitting 2 potion orders at one go
    • An extra 40% bonus for submitting 3 potion orders at one go
  • A new toggle button, 'Always deposit to potion store,' has been added to the bank options view. This toggle has two settings:
    • Enabled - Potions will always get deposited to the Potion Storage regardless of which tab is open.

Other changes:
  • Fixed an issue where the scroll down of the Chugging Barrel wasn't working as intended to view the loadouts at the bottom of the configuration page.
  • Updated the loadouts interface to show the availability of doses in the Potion Storage. This can be seen by a red circle near the potion, indicating that it is not found neither in Potion Storage nor in the bank.

  • Fixed an issue where closing the bank with the Potion Storage tab open prevented item deposit elsewhere.
  • Potion Storage now expands in height correctly when tabs are hidden.
  • Updated tab style selection to a dropdown input in the options menu.
  • Reorganized toggle buttons in the options menu for better clarity.
  • Vials are no longer consumed when withdrawing potions directly to the Chugging Barrel.
  • Increased the clickbox of the Aga lever to make it easier to interact with.
Colossal Wyrm Agility Course Changes
• Based on your feedback , we’ve made the following changes to the Advanced Colossal Wyrm Agility Course to better align with other courses at a similar level:
    • Increased obstacle XP from 62 to 70.
    • Increased XP on completion from 325 to 358.
    • This should increase XP/hr from the Advanced Course from ~40k XP/hr to ~44k XP/hr.
  • Increased the Termites gained on Advanced Course obstacles, from '8 to 10' to '12 to 15'. For further clarification, please see below.
Miscellaneous Varlamore Changes
• Brutal Blue Dragon, Baby Blue Dragon and Blue Dragon in the Ruins of Tapoyauik, are now all consistently weak to fire as intended.
  • In the Heart of Darkness, we've added a different dialogue to make it clearer when the trial is being reset upon failing to pick the traitor.
  • Fixed a bug where players were able to teleport to Cam Torum before meeting the requirement.
  • Fixed a bug where players could finish the Witch's Potion quest with the cauldron on Aldarin.
  • Fixed a bug where clicking the CKQ code on the Fairy Ring Travel Log wasn't automatically inputting the code.
Other Changes
• Mort Myre fungi will now go into an open Reagent Pouch automatically as you pick them from a log in Mort Myre.

Wintertodt Updates are Here!

We're excited to bring the chilling Wintertodt updates into the live game! Lots of you jumped in and helped us test out the new additions through our beta last week, and following your feedback, we're now able to take full advantage of the changes with your live game accounts.

Before diving into the specifics, we'd like draw your attention to a change on logging out inside Wintertodt: Once the update goes live, if you had logged out in the Wintertodt arena, you'll be moved outside to the Doors of Dinh - that is the case if you were on a normal world. For those in a Deadman world, they will be relocated to the nearby bank to ensure their safety. Just a quick heads up!

So wrap up in some Warm clothing and let's take a look at what to expect!
Warmth Meter
As a warm up, let's kick things off with the Warmth Meter. When you hop into the lobby, you’ll spot the new and eagerly-awaited Warmth Meter at the top left, displayed in orange matching your Pyromancer garb. Warmth effectively replaces Hitpoints as the resource you need to keep topped up if you'd like to avoid being frozen into an early grave. This means that the Wintertodt's basic and special attacks do damage to your Warmth instead of HP, but wearing Warm clothing or lighting more braziers will reduce the damage - essentially the same mechanics you’re used to, but with a fresh twist.

You’ll also find two new sets of Sprouting Roots (one on each side), which can be used to gather Bruma herbs and speaking of said herbs, picking these exclusive herbs in Wintertodt no longer grants Farming XP. The previous XP was minimal and the overwhelming majority of players weren't engaging with Rejuvenation Potions in the first place. The reason for this change is to avoid introducing extremely low-effort, on-demand Farming XP methods, helping to maintain consistency with current game mechanics.

Back to Warmth Meter! The key thing to remember is that decreases to Warmth are universal and apply to everybody in the same way. So whether you’ve got 10 Hitpoints or 99, you’ll take the same amount of damage to your Warmth and use the same resources to replenish it. In essence, 100% Warmth is equivalent to 10 Hitpoints before the change but with a little more granularity.

Regeneration

Over Time
Just like Hitpoints, Warmth naturally regenerates over time. You'll regenerate 8% Warmth every minute, plus an additional 1% for every piece of Warm clothing you wear. If you notice it randomly jumping up then don't report it as a bug - it's a feature!

Food
When it comes to replenishing your Warmth, it is simple and doesn't require a change in behaviour - you can just use food! So long as a piece of food provides at least 4 Hitpoints per bite, such as a Cake, you'll replenish 35% of your Warmth upon eating it. To stick with Cake as an example, each bite restores 35%, totaling 105% Warmth recovered for the entire sweet treat.

Rejuvenation Potion
Perhaps you don't want to use conventional food and you're all about self-sufficiency and sustainability. Luckily for you, we've added a 'Drink' option to the Rejuvenation potion (shown above) which will restore 30% of your Warmth per dose, totaling 120% for the full potion, meaning you'll be able to keep yourself topped up indefinitely if you'd like.

We know that swapping the left-click on these Rejuvenation potions could make healing the Pyromancers a bit trickier, and you might accidentally use supplies that could maximise your points. But don’t worry, we've got that covered! To prevent accidental potion-consumption, we've added a left-click 'Help' option to the Pyromancers. If you're not familiar with this, you can actually use Rejuvenation potions to heal the Pyromancers when they've taken damage or have fallen to the floor! With these changes to the potions we might see less players running from the South-East braizer to the South-West one after a Pyromancer goes down and calls for their mummy - especially since you earn points for helping them out!

Also in the screenshot above, you can see the new hitsplats for Warmth damage. This clearly separates them from direct damage to your Hitpoints and should make it crystal clear when you're taking a hit from the bitter cold. We've also popped a Warmth meter just below your usual Hitpoints bar so that you can keep your eyes on the action rather than UI elements at the top left.

Feedback Additions
Based on your feedback, we've incorporated various additional sources of regeneration into the Warmth system, such as Heal Other, Redemption, the Regen Bracelet and the Hitpoints cape. This should reduce any disruption to established metas for more experienced players who often make use of these. It's worth noting for Redemption in particular that it might be a little trickier than before to reliably dip below 10% of your Warmth if you're used to using Redemption on an account with high Hitpoints, but it's useable and we have no doubt that you'll figure it out!

Fatal Cold
Keep in mind that while the Wintertodt won't be attacking your lifeforce directly, running completely out of Warmth will kill you. Wintertodt remains a dangerous activity, HCIM are not safe here - keep yourself warm or somebody will bury your bones for Prayer XP while the masses laugh at you.

Ring of Life, Defence Cape and Phoenix Necklace can save you though! If your Warmth Meter gets under 10%, then the Ring of Life automatically will activate and save you. Same goes with Defence Cape, if you have activated the Ring of Life effect on it. Likewise, your Warmth dropping below 20% will also trigger Phoenix Necklace's effect to restore Warmth.
Other Wintertodt Changes
Next up, we've got further additions to the CosyScape list! The following items now all count as Warm clothing:
  • Wolf Mask
  • Earmuffs
  • Cap and Goggles
  • Woolly Hat
  • Bobble Hat
  • Jester Hat
  • Tri-Jester Hat

One extra bit of QoL we've added is a slightly longer cooldown on being interrupted by the Wintertodt's basic attacks while fletching your Bruma roots into kindling, so that you'll be guaranteed to fit a few fletches in before being interrupted, and not have to deal with a string of interruptions that do little beyond frustrate you.

Another change we're making here ties into that point around 'keeping yourself topped up indefinitely'. If you're already familiar with the Wintertodt then this may sound a little counter-intuitive because your Inventory is likely to fill up with Supply crates and hamper your points-earning potential in the next round. Introducing: the Reward Pile!

Gone are the days of Supply Crates bloating out your bank. Instead, for every crate you would have earned or every roll you would have gotten (in cases where you might obtain a significant number of points and therefore have a crate with multiple loot rolls), you'll get another search added to the Reward Pile. It's right next to the bank so that things are kept convenient, and you can even use the 'Big-search' option to loot 5 times at once! This should alleviate bank space issues and make Wintertodt a little more appealing for any Ultimate Irons out there.

Continuing on the topic of rewards; you can now track how many rewards you’ve claimed from Wintertodt directly in the Collection Log under the Wintertodt tab.

Last but not least, when you enter Wintertodt, a Warm Clothing indicator message will appear in chat, notifying you if you're below the four-piece Warm Clothing cap. This should clarify how many pieces of Warm Clothing you're wearing, as what counts as Warm Clothing may not be immediately obvious.

And that's a wrap for Wintertodt changes! Now hop on to Wintertodt and chill!

Further Varlamore: The Rising Darkness Improvements
Drop Rates
It's been two weeks since you began exploring what Varlamore: The Rising Darkness has to offer, which means it's now time to shed some light on the highly-anticipated drop rates! We've got a lot to share with you, so without further ado, let's get into it...

Hueycoatl Drop Rates

Before we start sharing any numbers, we'd like to mention the improvements we made to some of the drop rates from Hueycoatl. Ever since the launch of Varlamore: The Rising Darkness, we had the chance to monitor your feedback closely, and now that we have more information, we've tweaked the drop rates for Soiled Pages and Hueycoatl Hide:
  • Soiled Page drop rate has been increased slightly and the quantity has been increased from 30 to 80.
  • Hueycoatl Hide drop rate has been significantly increased and now also drops 2 - 3 instead of 1.

The following drop rates apply after increasing the drop rates for these. For your information, the Base Chance to roll on the uniques table is 1/23, and this is scaled by your contribution and is individual to each player. Items with increased drop rates or quantities as mentioned above will be marked with a * in the table below.

For those of you who want a bit more information, the chance to roll on the unique table is modified by your contribution percentage, i.e. percentage of total damage dealt. For example:
  • In a solo encounter you'd do 100% of the damage, so your base rate is 1/23.
  • In a 5 man where all players did equal damage, your drop rate would be 1/5th = 1/115. This caps out at 1/20th of the base drop rate.

The MVP also gets a 10% increase to their rate.

Item
Drop Rate
Unique
Huasca seeds (20)
Base quantity split based on contribution: ~1/34
-
Soiled Pages (80)*
Base quantity split based on contribution: ~1/13.6
-
Dragonhunter Wand

Tome
~1/4

Hueycoatl Hide*
~1/1.5

Huberte
Base pet chance (scaled by contribution): 1/400

Amoxliatl Drop Rates

Next up, we have the drop rates for the powerful Frost Nagua of The Heart of Darkness, the Amoxliatl:
  • Glacial Temotli: 1/100
  • Pendant of Ates: 1/25
  • Moxi: 1/3000
Wyrm Agility Course

Finally, the Wyrm Agility Course can give you the wonderful Squirrel Pet and here's what you can expect at a base rate:

  • Basic Course: 1/28,503
  • Advanced Course: 1/25,406
Hueycoatl Changes
Aside from the improvements to Hueycoatl drop rates, we've also managed to do some fixes for Varlamore's ancient serpent:
  • Empty and Charged Tome of Earth versions now share a placeholder in the bank interface, like other tomes do.
  • Fixed an issue where the personal best time broadcast for killing Hueycoatl wasn't showing in the clan channel.
  • Players can no longer prevent being kicked down the mountain when the Hueycoatl fight restarts.
Mastering Mixology Changes
We're rebalancing Mastering Mixology to better reflect the time and effort involved. You'll now get bonus points for submitting multiple potions at the same time. Here's how it works:
  • An extra 20% bonus for submitting 2 potion orders at one go
  • An extra 40% bonus for submitting 3 potion orders at one go

For example, if you deposit LLL, AAA and MMA at one go, instead of 20/30/20, you'll receive 28/42/28 with the added 40% bonus:
  • 40%x20 = +8M so 28M
  • 40%x30 = +12A so 42A
  • 40%x20 = +8L so 28L

Previously, we announced plans to add a toggle to the Potion Storage interface allowing players to set their potions to deposit into storage by default, even when the interface isn't open. This particular feature is launching today, and thanks for your patience! To clarify, a new toggle button, 'Always deposit to potion store,' has been added to the bank options view. This toggle has two settings:
  • Enabled - Potions will always get deposited to the Potion Storage regardless of which tab is open.
  • Disabled - Potions will be deposited into whichever tab the player has open.

We hope you'll enjoy these changes, but as always, let us know your thoughts. Now, for some smaller fixes and changes:
  • Fixed an issue where the scroll down of the Chugging Barrel wasn't working as intended to view the loadouts at the bottom of the configuration page.
  • Updated the loadouts interface to show the availability of doses in the Potion Storage. This can be seen by a red circle near the potion, indicating that it is not found neither in Potion Storage nor in the bank.
  • Goading Potions are now correctly mentioned under the Harralander section of the Gielinor's flora - herbs book.

We really appreciate all 'Scapers who have shared their feedback around Mastering Mixology so far. We hope these changes better align with your expectations and we'll continue to keep an eye on your thoughts.
Colossal Wyrm Agility Course Changes
Over the last two weeks, we’ve been closely monitoring your feedback on the XP rates for the Colossal Wyrm Agility Course and have adjusted them to better align with other courses at a similar level. Based on your input, we’ve made the following changes to the Advanced Colossal Wyrm Agility Course:
  • Increased obstacle XP from 62 to 70.
  • Increased XP on completion from 325 to 358.

This should increase XP/hr from the Advanced Course from ~40k XP/hr to ~44k XP/hr.

Another concern you've raised with us was that Amylase rates were still too low compared to Ardougne, and this was especially notable for the Advanced Course. To amend this, we've increased the Termites gained on Advanced Course obstacles, from '8 to 10' to '12 to 15'.

To clarify, Basic Course obstacles and obstacles shared between both courses retain a Termite quantity between 8 to 10, so if you receive Termites on those obstacles you will receive that amount. However, any Termites received on an Advanced Course obstacle will be between the new 12 to 15 value, meaning you should see a noticeable increase to Termites gained when repeatedly doing the Advanced Course.

We hope these two buffs bring the Colossal Wyrm Agility Course more in line with your feedback. We'll pay close attention to your thoughts, so let us know what you think!

  • Ancient Brews and Menaphite Remedies are now correctly mentioned under the Dwarf Weed section of the Gielinor's flora - herbs book.

Changelog - October 2nd
Varlamore: The Rising Darkness
Mastering Mixology Changes
  • In case you missed it: We released an additional hotfix to the potion hand-ins here so that you're able to hand in multiple potions, but any potion hand-in will refresh all three offers.
  • Renamed the Pre-pot Device to Chugging Barrel.
  • Rebalanced the level requirements, points, XP given and order rarities for potions, as well as the Points costs for various rewards, as detailed later in the blog.
  • Adjusted Digweed spawn rates so they scale with your Herblore level.
  • Raised the cap of 300 for Mox, Aga and Lye paste up to 3,000.
  • Reduced the wander range of Supervisor Lalo so that he stops getting in the way of the bank chest.
  • Ensured that the Chugging Barrel functions at the Theatre of Blood, Nex and Mastering Mixology banks.
  • Following Secondaries can now be used with the Reagent Pouch:
    • Jangerberries
    • Lilies of the sand
    • Ashes
    • Silver dust
    • Kebbit teeth dust
    • Nail beast nails
    • Poison ivy berries
    • Gorak claw powder
  • Prevented UIMs from buying Potion Storage.
  • Alchemist's Outfit can now be stored in the POH Costume Room.
  • Made an improvement and some fixes for Alchemist's Amulet:
    • Increased the max amount of charges Alchemist's Amulet holds from 250 to 5000.
    • Fix a bug where the number of charges doesn't always match the number of amulets.
  • Fixed a bug where Blighted Super Restores, Extended Anti-venom+ and unfinished 'blood' potions weren't working correctly with Potion Storage.
  • Fixed a bug where Extended Anti-venom+ potions weren't working correctly with the Chugging Barrel.

Hueycoatl Changes
  • In case you missed it - last Friday, we've improved Hueycoatl's loot table:
    • Roughly doubled the quantity of all non-unique loot.
    • Soiled pages were removed from the unique table and added to regular rolls. The chances of receiving pages are drastically increased, while the chance of a unique has also slightly increased.
    • Removed some of the low-tier loot: Guam seeds, irit seeds, feathers, watermelon seeds, pineapple seeds and lobsters.
    • Swapped Unfinished Runite Bolts for Adamant since they are more useful.
    • Added some new drops such as Limpwurt roots and a variety of some but not all herb seeds.
  • Many of you pointed out that tailing your enemy was a bit too literal during the Hueycoatl fight, due to a bug allowing players to attack its tail from the arena entrance. Oops! To remedy this, we’ve adjusted blocking to prevent ranged attacks on Hueycoatl’s tail from the East side.
  • The penalty for players who skip Phase 1 during the Hueycoatl fight, resulting in a significant reduction to their contribution value, has been increased further.

Colossal Wyrm Agility Course Changes
  • Halved the cost of Amylase packs, reducing it from 200 Termites to 100 Termites. This significantly increases the Amylase per hour obtained and puts it above similar courses in the level range.
  • Increased the 'value' of Termites so they’re less likely to be accidentally dropped.
  • Colossal Wyrm Agility section now turns green upon completion in the Collection Log.
  • Varlamorean Graceful Outfit can now be stored in the POH Costume Room.
  • Using the Varlamorean Graceful Cape on Osten now allows the player to revert it to standard Graceful.

Other Varlamore Changes
  • Added S.T.A.S.H. units that were missing from three new Treasure Trail steps at the Twilight Temple, and where the River Ortus meets the Proudspire.
  • Costume Needle now correctly works with Xerician Fabric and also provides thread for crafting with Bark as expected.
  • Adjusted the Frost Crabs loot table to make it a little more thematically fitting.
  • Butler's Tray is now two-handed.
  • Fixed a bug where Dizana's Quiver could be used to smuggle items in or out of the restricted areas that use the item holding system.
Other Changes
The following items can now be sacrificed at the Death's Coffer since their prices have settled:
  • Noxious halberd
  • Amulet of rancour
  • Aranea boots
  • Araxyte venom sack
  • Spider Cave Teleport Scroll

The PvP Arena is using 'Zerker' loadouts in Ranked Duels and Tournaments this week.

Varlamore: The Rising Darkness Changes

Since last week's release, we've been thrilled to see so many of you eagerly exploring all that Varlamore: The Rising Darkness has to offer. During this time, you've journeyed through the lush landscapes of Aldarin, indulged in the mesmerising tunes of a new realm, mastered lost arts of potion-making, confronted foes born of darkness and more!

Now that the first week of the release is behind us, it's time to finetune the content and make improvements. Before we get into what we're changing this week, we want to thank all of you for your enthusiasm and for sharing your valuable feedback! Following the points you've raised, this week we want to make a handful of feedback changes and fixes to enhance your gameplay experience across the vast lands of Varlamore. Without further ado, let's see what's changed!
Mastering Mixology Changes
We'll start with an 'in case you missed it', because it's an important one! On Friday afternoon, we released an additional hotfix to the potion hand-ins here so that you're able to hand in multiple potions, but any potion hand-in will refresh all three offers. We think this captures the best of both worlds for improving the overall flow and feel of the activity, while still allowing you to single out orders offering Lye points if you'd like. We'll be chatting more long-term about the Reward Points system, but we think this is the best option available in the short-term.

Now, on to this week's changes!

First off, those of you who requested a more immersive name for the Pre-pot Device will be pleased to hear that we've renamed it to Chugging Barrel!

Secondly, we've seen many of you requesting a rebalance regarding the level requirements and XP given for potions, as well as points and costs for rewards. Some of you feel that the highest level potion requirement being 86 is a bit steep, and the balance of each reagent is also weighted in favour of higher levels. To address this, we've adjusted level requirements and rescaled potion unlocks every 3 levels instead of 4, with a better mix of the three reagents across the levels. With this in mind, we've also adjusted the points, XP and order rarities to ensure smooth progression. The overall result of these changes shouldn't impact XP/hr. Points/hr will be impacted, but we've adjusted reward costs to counter this. Full details for all the changes for potions can be found below:

Here's a breakdown of the Points cost rebalance for Mastering Mixology rewards:

Furthermore, for those of you who intend to do the activity for an extended period of time, we've also raised the cap of 300 for Mox, Aga and Lye paste up to 3,000.

Here's a list of all the other improvements we've made to Mastering Mixology with this week's game update:
  • Adjusted Digweed spawn rates so they scale with your Herblore level.
  • Reduced the wander range of Supervisor Lalo so that he stops getting in the way of the bank chest.
  • Ensured that the Chugging Barrel functions at the Theatre of Blood, Nex and Mastering Mixology banks.
  • Following Secondaries can now be used with the Reagent Pouch:
    • Jangerberries
    • Lilies of the sand
    • Ashes
    • Silver dust
    • Kebbit teeth dust
    • Nail beast nails
    • Poison ivy berries
    • Gorak claw powder
  • Prevented UIMs from buying Potion Storage, since they can't use it.

In case you missed it or just want a recap, here are the rest of the highlights from the Mastering Mixology fixes we carried out late last week:
  • Players now only receive orders that they have the Herblore requirement for, meaning you won't need to force a refresh.
  • Doubled the frequency of Digweed spawns and fixed a bug where Digweed isn't spawning in the North-West corner.
  • Increased the duration for Digweed once it's spawned from 6 seconds to 20 seconds.
  • Added an extra tick of leniency to the Agitator's 'reaction' click when homogenising potions.
  • Adjusted Reagent Pouch so that players can only withdraw from it in banks. We'll look to whitelist other locations for this in the future, since it has neat applications for multi-skilling, but it shouldn't be the case that players can significantly increase their supply of potions in certain PvM scenarios.
  • Fixed a bug where the focused version of the Prescription Goggles weren't working.
  • Depositing worn items while the Potion Storage interface is open no longer drops your gear to the floor.
  • Fixed a bug where depositing Grimy Huascas into the bank via a herb bag were changing them to Torstols.
Hueycoatl Changes
Again, we'll start with a 'to keep you updated' for a standout hotfix we implemented last Friday. One of the key pieces of feedback regarding Hueycoatl was that its drop table felt a bit underwhelming. Based on your feedback, we improved Hueycoatl's loot, and here's a breakdown of the changes:
  • Roughly doubled the quantity of all non-unique loot.
  • Soiled pages were removed from the unique table and added to regular rolls. The chances of receiving pages are drastically increased, while the chance of a unique has also slightly increased.
  • Removed some of the low-tier loot: Guam seeds, irit seeds, feathers, watermelon seeds, pineapple seeds and lobsters.
  • Swapped Unfinished Runite Bolts for Adamant since they are more useful.
  • Added some new drops such as Limpwurt roots and a variety of some but not all herb seeds.

Ok, back to this week!

Here are some other feedback changes and fixes we've done for Hueycoatl last week:
  • We tweaked Prayer Pillar mechanic to remain active during the tail phase, giving you a little more to interact with and also not overly punishing you if this phase starts before you've triggered the pillars' damage buff.
  • Group Iron Men won't lose their prestige for kills with players outside of their group.
  • We've added messaging to let you know when your contribution is too low to obtain loot.

We hope all these adjustments improve your gameplay experience with Hueycoatl. We'll be monitoring your feedback closely and are open to making further changes in the coming weeks, including tweaks to uniques. So make sure to let us know what you think!

Colossal Wyrm Agility Course Changes

It was great to see so many of you eager to take part in the Colossal Wyrm Agility Course, as well as enjoying the Varlamorean Graceful Transmog and Bone Squirrel Transmog! However, we heard some of you expected a more generous Amylase gain from the course, and we totally get that. In response to your input, we've halved the cost of Amylase packs, reducing it from 200 Termites to 100 Termites. This significantly increases the Amylase per hour obtained and puts it above similar courses in the level range. Plus, we've increased the 'value' of Termites so they’re less likely to be accidentally dropped.

The rest of this week's fixes for the Colossal Wyrm Agility Course are as follows:
  • Colossal Wyrm Agility section now turns green upon completion in the Collection Log.
  • Varlamorean Graceful Outfit can now be stored in the POH Costume Room.
  • Using the Varlamorean Graceful Cape on Osten now allows the player to revert it to standard Graceful.

Aside from these, here's a refresher for last week's changes:
  • Varlamorean Graceful Cape no longer reverts to default colours after unequipping.
  • The Colossal Wyrm Teleport now gets unlocked again in the Collection Log after being bought.
  • The Colossal Wyrm Teleport Scrolls requirement works as expected again: They can only be used if the player had visited Varlamore before.

Here are some other fixes we rolled out last week:
  • Items with a value of 100,000 or more are no longer allowed in the Aldarin nest unless they are one of the whitelisted items.
  • Fixed a bug where the River Ortus medium Emote Clue and Twilight Temple Hard Emote Clue were not being completed.
  • Frost Nagua that spawn during the door puzzle will no longer respawn after being killed.
  • Aldarin Fairy Ring requirement works as expected again: It can only be used if the player had visited Varlamore before.
  • Fixed a bug where you could be kicked out of Villa Lucens when stood in some areas.
  • Using watering cans on the Farming Guild fountains now works again as expected.

We'll keep on keep an eye on your feedback and make further improvements if need be, especially paying close attention to the Hueycoatl fight itself. Please continue to share your thoughts with us so that we can keep shaping the experience together!

Old School RuneScape's new story is here, and it sounds epic

Old School RuneScape is the gift that keeps on giving for me. The over-decade-old MMO, itself a resurrection of RuneScape's noughties version, has already seen three new stories drop this year, and the latest has just arrived. As part of the Varlamore saga and the Twilight Emissaries trilogy, Rising Darkness continues the quest to defeat the serpent Hueycoatl.
