• Players can now set the spacing of Minimenu entries to any value.
  • The Minimenu can now be filtered to hide entity options, player options, or the ‘examine’ and ‘cancel’ entries.

The Curse of Arrav

RuneScape's iconic Mahjarrat storyline continues with a new quest!

Over the past few years, we've been advancing this story with quests like Desert Treasure II and While Guthix Sleeps, and today sees another important step in the grand plan: the launch of The Curse of Arrav. In this remake of the 2009 quest, you’ll embark on a journey to explore Zemouregal’s Fortress Stronghold, learning more about this mysterious Mahjarrat and uncovering his legendary beef with the hero Arrav.

To start the quest, head to the Uzer Oasis and speak to Elias White.

If you can't view the image above, click here.

Elias White can be found at a campsite south of Cassim's house in the Uzer Oasis. If you can't view the image above, click here.
Quest Requirements
The Curse of Arrav is a Master tier quest with the following requirements:
  • Completion of Defender of Varrock
  • Completion of Troll Romance
  • Level 64 Mining
  • Level 62 Ranged
  • Level 62 Thieving
  • Level 61 Agility
  • Level 58 Strength
  • Level 37 Slayer
  • We recommend a Combat level of at least 80
Rewards
No good quest is complete without some nice rewards! Here's what you'll get for completing the Curse of Arrav:
  • 2 Quest Points
  • 40,000 Mining XP
  • 40,000 Thieving XP
  • 40,000 Agility XP
  • Access to Zemouregal's Fortress, where the basement houses higher-level variants of the Armoured Zombies you've encountered during Defender of Varrock. These Armoured Zombies have an increased chance to drop the Zombie Axe. They also drop the new Zombie Helmet.
    • The Zombie Helmet requires 50 Strength and Defence to equip. It sits between the Dwarven Helmet and Inquisitor's Great Helm as a Crush-focused Head slot option.
    • The Zombie Helmet will drop broken and must be repaired at an anvil with Level 70 Smithing at an anvil. Both the broken and fixed versions are tradeable. See the stats below!

The Curse of Arrav is our third and final quest remake in the Mahjarrat storyline. As with previous quest remakes, The Curse of Arrav retains the same overarching narrative as the original. However, various changes have been made to ensure the quest meets the standards of a modern Old School quest and matches up with our future plans for the storyline.
Our Future Plans
Speaking of future plans, we wanted to take this opportunity to address some questions we’ve seen about the Mahjarrat storyline. Specifically, we want to elaborate on why we chose to remake some Mahjarrat quests, but not others.

When we first made plans for the Mahjarrat storyline in Old School, we knew it was important to balance the nostalgia people felt for the original with the desire for a fresh take on events. We also realised that our plans could benefit from backporting quests.

The Mahjarrat storyline is known for beginning as several different plot threads that weave together in the thrilling conclusion. We wanted to retain this aspect, and realised we could blend old and new by retaining some original plot threads while adding a few brand-new ones.

Defender of Varrock, While Guthix Sleeps and the Curse of Arrav all fit nicely with our plans for the story, and would also allow players to re-experience their favourite moments from past Mahjarrat quests.

We made a conscious choice not to remake other quests so that we had room to add new story elements – but you can see how we’ve woven in elements of the originals, too. For example, when you’re playing through Curse of Arrav, you’ll notice a few details that are borrowed from RuneScape’s Missing My Mummy quest.

As mentioned above, Curse of Arrav is the last of the Mahjarrat quest remakes. We’re now firmly on the path towards an Old School-specific conclusion to the Mahjarrat storyline. This means we will not be remaking Ritual of The Mahjarrat – instead, we have plans for two more quests in this sequence, which will resolve the plot threads established in previous quests in a way entirely unique to Old School.

We’re also aware that the Mahjarrat have received a lot of love lately – which is to be expected, since this is by far the most popular storyline in the game. However, variety is the spice of life, and so we’ll be taking a break from the Mahjarrat story to give other quest lines time to shine. Which quest lines, you ask? Well, watch this space…

Mobile Anniversary Update

Those who enjoy 'Scaping on mobile, rejoice! The long-awaited and much-anticipated Mobile UI changes are here today.

Please note that your mobile device may not automatically update to the latest version of the mobile client. Be sure to check the App Store or Play Store for the latest updates. Sometimes, it takes a while for devices to pick up the new updates.

The Mobile UI rework has a blog of its own, breaking down all the new features released today! For your convenience, here’s a quick look at all the Mobile features we’ve released over the years:

Check out the below video by Mobile veteran FullyOSRS to learn more!
New Features Also Available in the Official Client
Of course, changes for Mobile and the official client go hand in hand. The Menu Entry Swapper, Minimenu improvements and HiScores were some of the most highly-requested features – and all of these are also available on the official client! Therefore, we’ll be covering them here in detail.
Minimenu Reordering (aka Menu Entry Swapper)
This was one of the most-anticipated features! By enabling Minimenu Reordering in the Settings menu, you can rearrange minimenu entries to fit your needs.

If you can't view the image above, click here.

The reordering buttons are at the top-right of the minimenu. When clicked, new buttons will appear which you can use to move the options around.
Other Minimenu Improvements
Modify Minimenu Start Position

You can now adjust the position of the minimenu in relation to your mouse pointer! To do so, enable this feature and choose your preference from the dropdown menu.

If you can't view the image above, click here.

Do you want your mouse pointer to appear over the header of the minimenu, or at a lower position? It’s all up to you!

Minimenu Spacing Value

If you can't view the image above, click here.

You can now set the spacing between minimenu entries to any value by using the slider, or by entering a number.

Minimenu Filtering

If you can't view the image above, click here.

Last but not least, you can now filter what entries are shown or hidden in the minimenu!
  • Disabling entity options will hide minimenu entries for NPCs, items, and objects like trees.
  • Disabling player options will hide minimenu entries like Trade or Follow.
  • You can also disable the 'examine' and 'cancel' entries in the minimenu.

If you choose to display loads of entries, don't worry, you won't end up with an extremely long minimenu - the new scroll bar has got you covered!

If you can't view the image above, click here.

Friend World Switcher

Another new entry to the minimenu! This one lets you easily hop to the world a friend is in by right-clicking their name in one of the following spaces:
  • Friends list
  • Chat channel
  • Clan chat
  • Guest clan chat
  • Group Ironman group

Enjoy checking in on your buddies!
Viewing the HiScores In-Game
No more switching to your browser to check player HiScores! You can now look up player RSNs on the HiScores and see the stats of other 'Scapers directly in-game, without having to open the website in a separate window!

To enable this feature, select In-World Lookup from the Popout tab in the Settings. Once enabled, you can right-click a player and select Lookup from the menu. This will take you to the HiScores Popout Panel, which displays their stats! You’ll also notice that the HiScores icon in the Popout panel has been updated with a fresh new look.

If this setting is enabled, you can look up players on the HiScores from the game window! If you can't view the image above, click here.

We’re working to resolve a bug when looking up GIM and HCGIM players, so unfortunately these HiScores can’t be accessed using this feature just yet. We’ll keep you updated on our progress and should have the issue fixed soon.

These are the newest client features, but they’re by no means the last! Remember, you can check out the dedicated newspost for all the details about today’s Mobile UI update.

Drawings from Our Latest Discord Modcast

Our most recent Stages Modcast on Discord saw Mod Jerv and Mod Skylark drawing your suggestions! Mod Skylark mocked up some 3D designs beforehand, whereas Mod Jerv drew them live, all while answering your questions about art in Old School.

Many thanks to the 'Scapers who shared their fantastic drawing ideas for the Modcast, which was purely for fun and not to develop in-game content. From a Halloween-themed pumpkin-Chinchompa mash up to combining three items in one, you had very fun and creative suggestions! You can see some of the results below:

Halloween Fixes & Miscellaneous Changes | October 23rd

This week brings a whole heap of small but mighty miscellaneous tweaks!

Changelog October 23rd

[expand]

PSA: As of this week, Game Jam VI is in full swing, and the team will be diving into their passion projects from October 21st to November 1st! This means there will be no game update next week on Wednesday, October 30th.

Halloween 2024 Changes
  • Marika will now believe you when you claim you’ve heard the cat. To help convince her, we’ve added a third chat option which lets you promise you heard it.
  • Moved a pumpkin in Draynor out of the path of would-be woodcutters.

Varlamore: The Rising Darkness Changes
  • Using the Refiner at the Mastering Mixology minigame whilst wearing Ferocious Gloves will no longer cause hands to stretch. Safety first!
  • Clarified the criteria for the Perfect Hueycoatl Combat Achievement.

Ironman Status Changes
  • An important update regarding Ironman accounts:
    • Previously, some Ironmen chose to lock their Ironman status 'permanently', worrying that a hijacker might downgrade it behind their back. However, over the years, we've seen an increasing number of Ironmen regret this. Additionally, we now have Jagex Accounts, bringing updated security options to keep hijackers out of the account in the first place. Therefore, as of today's update, the old 'permanent' option is no longer available. If you previously locked your Ironman status permanently and now wish to downgrade, you can do so - provided you have the security of a Jagex Account to protect your status.
    • Ironmen who are still concerned about a hijacker downgrading them may choose a downgrade cool-down delay of 90 days. Players whose Ironman status is due to downgrade will receive warnings on login, giving them ample chance to visit the Ironman Tutor in Lumbridge and cancel the change if they don't want it to proceed.

Arclight Changes
  • Arclight will no longer degrade to Darklight after running out of charges and will instead become an ‘Inactive’ version with the same stats.
  • Players can now use one or two Shards at a time to charge Arclight. 333 charges for one Shard, 666 for two, and 1,000 for three.
    • You will still require three Shards to upgrade Darklight.
  • A warning message will appear in chat when Arclight has 100 charges remaining.
  • Repositioned Arclight's Inventory icon to avoid parts being chopped off.

Run Energy Changes Beta 2.0
  • Our Run Energy changes second beta launches tomorrow, Thursday October 24th! This is your opportunity to test out changes that will impact all game play experiences, so do give it a go.

Other Changes
  • Added a visual indicator to the Tormented Demons which shows when they enter their 100% accuracy phase.
  • Examining the murals in the four Pyramid Plunder lobbies reveals how many of each gold chest you’ve looted.
  • The Araxyte Slayer Helm now correctly matches your character's skin tone.
  • The following weapons and armour from Varlamore have been added to the Supplies chests on PvP Arena worlds:
    • Blue Moon armour set and Spear
    • Blood Moon armour set
    • Eclipse Moon armour set
    • Eclipse Atlatl and Atlatl Darts
    • Dual Macuahuitl
  • Lumberjack Boots are now correctly proportioned to your character.
  • You'll no longer find yourself in an unexpected location when using the passageways to exit the Rogues’ Den maze area.
  • Fixed a bug causing the Skull Sceptre to forget its autocast setting when switching to another weapon and back again.
  • Fixed a bug causing players to teleport a few tiles when standing on the tile directly south of Miss Schism in Draynor Village.
  • Clicking Vorkath's Collection Log link no longer sends players to the Whisperer’s page.
  • Fixed an issue with the Yanille south Agility shortcut.
  • The Venator Ring can no longer be equipped without a Leviathan kill.
  • During the Colossal Hydra's special attack, the smaller Hydras are no longer able to attack you.
  • While it didn't affect your ability to play the minigame, we have made sure the Kraken's Tentacle is facing the right way during Fishing Trawler.
  • The Loot Tracker no longer counts dropped bones twice.
  • The Amulet of the Damned's effect now works with the Ahrim's set while manual casting as well as autocasting. Updated the set effect wording to reflect this change.
  • When you use 250 Firelighters to unlock a new colourway for your Phoenix pet, you will now have permanent access to that colour. After unlocking once, you can then freely use the 'Metamorphosis' option on the pet to change it.
  • We know there are some very dedicated fans of the Old Torva outfit, and while we currently aren't adding it to the game itself, this week we've added the files to the config. This means that RuneLite will now be able to utilise the file and give you the option to don the OG style for your own enjoyment. It's important to know that when activating it via the FashionScape plugin, the outfit will only be visible to you. The armour pieces are unavailable in the main game and are therefore untradeable, can't be sold or bought at the GE and will not leave placeholders in your Bank.
  • Fixed a Farming issue where curing a diseased herb could cause it to transform into a different kind of herb altogether.
  • Fixed an issue where the judge in King's Ransom appeared to have a beard but no head.
  • Added the Last Contract option when using NPC Contact, which will allow players to talk to Amy about Mahogany Homes contracts.
  • Enabled spectators scrying into the Theatre of Blood to be visible in the three waves previously exempt from this, meaning fighters will be able to see their audience. Public chat will be available between the fighters and spectators in the following fights:
    • Nylocas
    • Xarpus
    • Verzik
  • The latest Deadman Mode Rug item has been tweaked to make the skulls much clearer.

PvP Rota

The PvP rota has moved to Period B:
  • 560 - (UK) - PvP World
  • 319 - (US) - Bounty Hunter World
  • 579 - (US) - High-Risk PvP World
  • 561 - (UK) - Free-to-Play PvP World
  • 580 - (US) - LMS Competitive

World 390 (AUS) for LMS Competitive has been de-activated with this rota.

World 569 (AUS) for Bounty Hunter has been de-activated with this rota.

The PvP Arena is using 'Zerker' loadouts in Ranked Duels and Tournaments this week.

Halloween 2024 Changes

We settled into spooky season last week with Marika and her pumpkin problem. Your Scarecrow Shirts and customised pumpkin heads have been the talk of all Gielinor – but we have had reports of some creepy crawly bugs that needed squashing.
  • Some players were reporting that Marika didn't believe them when saying they had heard the cat, even when they had! To help convince her, we've added a third chat option, which lets you promise you heard the cat – if you have in fact heard it, of course.
  • Moved a pumpkin decoration in Draynor so it's once again possible to go cut the oak next to the Bank without having to walk all the way around.

Reminder that if you haven't already, you can visit the farm south of Falador to start the event and snag yourself some wicked cosmetics!

Varlamore: The Rising Darkness Changes

It's been almost a month since Varlamore: The Rising Darkness was released. You ventured forth to explore Varlamorian ways of potion making, battle the fearsome Hueycoatl, snag yourself new rewards, take on the new Combat Achievements and more!

As always, we kept monitoring your feedback, which has led to the following fixes:
  • Using the Refiner at the Mastering Mixology minigame whilst wearing Ferocious Gloves will no longer make your gloves get stuck to the machine and cause your hands to stretch.
  • We've clarified the criteria for the Perfect Hueycoatl Combat Achievement:
Task Name
Task Description
Task Tier
Task Category
Perfect Hueycoatl
Kill the Hueycoatl perfectly 5 times without leaving. To get a perfect kill, you must not take any avoidable damage from the Hueycoatl's lightning attack, tail slam attack, or off-prayer projectile attacks.

Ironman Status Changes

This week also brings an important update for Ironmen.

Previously, some Ironmen chose to lock their Ironman status 'permanently', worrying that a hijacker might downgrade it behind their back.

Ironmen who are still concerned about a hijacker downgrading them may choose a downgrade cool-down delay of 90 days. Players whose Ironman status is due to downgrade will receive warnings on login, giving them ample chance to visit the Ironman Tutor in Lumbridge and cancel the change if they don't want it to proceed.

Arclight Changes

After the addition of While Guthix Sleeps, Arclight gained a new feature which allowed players to infuse spent charges to count towards the 10,000-charge total required to upgrade it to Emberlight. However, when Arclight depleted to 0 charges, it automatically downgraded to Darklight, which meant your infusion progress was lost.

Following your feedback, running out of charges will now create an ‘Inactive’ version of the Arclight, which remains usable in combat with the same stats as Darklight and maintains your infusion progress.

While we were at it, we also made some additional improvements:
  • Players can now use one or two Shards at a time to charge Arclight. 333 charges for one Shard, 666 for two, and 1,000 for three.
    • You will still require three Shards to upgrade Darklight.
  • A warning message will appear in chat when Arclight has 100 charges remaining.
  • Repositioned Arclight's Inventory icon to avoid parts being chopped off.

Run Energy Changes Beta 2.0

Our second Run Energy changes beta launches tomorrow, Thursday October 24th! This is your opportunity to test out changes that will impact all game play experiences, no matter what you get up to in Gielinor.

For all the details on what these changes are and how to take part in the beta, keep your eye out for a dedicated Run Energy Changes blog on the day.

Game Jam VI

If you can't see the image above, click here.

As we've stepped into the final quarter of the year, it's time for another Game Jam!

Game Jams are internal events that we run twice a year, providing us with a fantastic opportunity to come together as a team and pursue passion projects outside the normal roadmap. Previous Game Jams have introduced projects that eventually became Scurrius, Perilous Moons, the Wilderness updates, Project Rebalance, and more!

With our sixth Game Jam in full swing, the team will be diving into their passion projects from October 21st to November 1st. This means there will be no game update next week, on Wednesday, October 30th.

J-Mods will be using the #OSRSGameJam hashtag on X to share what they've been cooking - so if you want to see what we’re up to this time, make sure to check it out!

Likewise, there will also be a dedicated #Game-Jam-VI channel on our Discord server, where some J-Mods will be sharing their ideas and soliciting your feedback!

Discord Activities
J-Mod Activity
If you can't see the image above, click here.

Is it a tree, or is it a J-Mod? There’s only one way to find out!

We know you lot love hide and seek, so we're hosting a J-Mod Prop Hunt event on our official Discord server this weekend! On Sunday, J-Mods will disguise themselves as props across Gielinor, and it's up to you and your fellow ‘Scapers to find them! We'll be dropping clues in the #F2P-Clues and #Members-Clues channels under the Events category on the day. Then it’s up to you to head to the right location and see what your favourite J-Mods have transformed into!

Everyone will meet in Varrock Square to kick off the event. Make sure you're in the event discussion channels in the Discord server if you plan to take part!

This is your official save the date:
  • This Sunday, October 27th
  • 19:00 BST
  • Members World 358 | Free-to-Play World 500
  • Meeting point: Varrock Square

See you there!

We work alongside our Discord Volunteer Moderators to help provide you with activities and events that you can take part in. For the past couple of months, our moderators have been hard at work organising and running events both in and out of game via the server. We've had J-Mod events, player-led activities and games hosted by our mod team themselves! The team are dedicated to bringing you the activities that you want to take part in, so felt it was high time we got your feedback on what they’ve put on so far, and what you want to see in the future. So, we would love it if you could take a couple of minutes to fill this in and let the mod team know your thoughts!
Discord Stages
If you can't see the image above, click here.

We're excited to announce our next Discord Stage call!

On Tuesday, October 29th at 16:00 GMT, Mod Blossom will be joined by Mod Jerv (Concept Artist) and Mod Skylark (Character Artist) to chat about art in Old School while Mod Jerv live-draws your suggestions! We've opened up a new channel to gather your drawing ideas early, so Mod Skylark can mock some of them up in 3D to show off during the stages. Head to the Drawing Suggestions channel to start suggesting what you'd like to see created! Please bear in mind that this Stages is just for fun, and not to develop in-game items, which means you can go wild with your ideas and get creative. We can't wait to see what you come up with! We'll be opening our Ask Your Questions channel on the day of the Stages, too, so prepare any art-related questions you have and pop them in there.

Halloween 2024

Halloween 2024

Spooktober is here, and Halloween spirit has taken over Gielinor! This year's Halloween event screams "Pumpkin spice and all things SUS"! South Falador is brimming with pumpkins and Jack O'Lanterns, where both new and familiar faces await... but this year, you'll need to make the spooky even spookier. You may also notice some stinking cute details long the way...

Getting Started
Here’s what awaits you when starting the Halloween event:

This year, you’ll meet Marika, a lady who loves farming, and hear her story. After losing a loved one who loved cats, she put her Farming skills to good use and created a cat portrait by planting pumpkins as a tribute. But doesn't it look a bit off?

Visit the farm south of Falador to see Marika’s pumpkin portrait for yourself, and help her make it purrfect!
Rewards
As always there are some wicked rewards for you to keep!

First up, you can earn the Scarecrow Shirt to celebrate Halloween in freakin' good style!

This year you’ll also receive a customisable Pumpkin Head, which lets you pick the colour and expression of your choice! Are you an o.O or more of a *w*?

You’ll also unlock a Scarecrow to display at your Player Owned House – and again, you can customise it with the colour and expression of your choice! You can place the Scarecrow anywhere in your POH, just like the Wintumber Tree. The perfect way to welcome your guests to a Halloween shindig!

Lastly, you can also unlock all the rewards from previous Halloween events. Speak to Diango in Draynor to claim them!
Varlamore: Rising Darkness Combat Achievements
Varlamore: The Rising Darkness has been live for three whole weeks, so you’ve had plenty of time to get to grips with the new bosses. It’s time to up the challenge with some Combat Achievements!

You may now take on 11 new Combat Achievements for Hueycoatl, and 9 for Amoxliatl, ranging from Medium to Grand Master.

Hueycoatl Combat Achievements

Amoxliatl Combat Achievements

Aside from these much-anticipated Combat Achievements, we’ve also been working to make your gameplay experience smoother across Varlamore. This week brings the following improvements:

  • Caviar and Roe can now be added to a Reagent Pouch and wearing the Prescription Goggles can now save them when making Barbarian Potions.
  • Fixed a bug where Huasca Potions (unf) couldn't be stored within Potion Storage or be made via Zahur.
  • All new items from Varlamore: The Rising Darkness are now useable in Death's Coffer, provided they are tradeable and meet the 10,000 GP minimum value.
Wintertodt & Other Changes
Thousands of you have been huddling around the Wintertodt following its big update last week! We appreciate all the kind words you've shared with us, as well as your valuable feedback.

'Scapers who go for solo Wintertodt have voiced that restoring a Pyromancer is less lucrative after the update, since you only use one potion now. To compensate, we’ve increased the points per Pyromancer healed from 30 up to 75.

Some of you also reported having a hard time telling the difference between your cold hitsplats and those of your Woodcutting comrades. We’ve adjusted some settings so that other people’s cold hitsplats now appear a bit darker than yours, so it should be easy to tell when you’re being hit.

We hope these changes make your Wintertodt journey even better! As always, we'll be keeping an eye on your feedback - so let us know how you find these changes!

We'll begin with a change we know you've been eagerly awaiting: a fix for PvP Arena matchmaking!
We’ve adjusted the PvP Arena matchmaking system to ensure that matches occur more frequently, by grouping players into two groups:

  • Lower ranks consist of Bronze, Iron and Steel, and they'll be matched with each other.
  • Higher ranks consist of Mithril, Adamant, Rune and Dragon, and they'll also be matched with each other.

We’ve also fixed a bug where your assigned opponent would simply fail to show up to the match. No excuses now!

For context, this was not an easy fix to make. Working with such a complex system took some time. We appreciate your patience and sincerely apologise for the delay. As always, we'll continue monitoring your feedback and can make further improvements if necessary, so let us know how you get on!

Some other notable fixes:

  • The warning message about placing all your finds in the Varrock Museum crate can now be disabled permanently.
  • A pop-up chatbox message for house-breaking in Civitas illa Fortis has been replaced with a less intrusive game message that can be spam-filtered.
  • Superior Slayer Creatures will now consider spawning elsewhere if they cannot spawn in tight spaces due to their size. It should now be drastically more likely to succeed.
PvP Rota
The PvP rota has moved to Period A:

  • 539 - (US) - PvP World
  • 318 - (UK) - Bounty Hunter World
  • 548 - (Germany) - High-Risk PvP World
  • 577 - (US) - Free-to-Play PvP World
  • 559 - (UK) - LMS Competitive

World 390 (AUS) for LMS Competitive has been activated with this rota.

World 569 (AUS) for Bounty Hunter has been activated with this rota.

The PvP Arena is using 'Maxed Med' loadouts in Ranked Duels and Tournaments this week.

Old School RuneScape dev Jagex has a new survival game, and you can sign up now

RuneScape developer Jagex has revealed a little more on its new survival game set in the RuneScape universe, and you can sign up to playtest it right now. While details on this new game are slim, it was announced in 2022, and we know it'll be built in Unreal Engine 5. We also know that the initial test at least will be exclusive to PC. Whether you're an OSRS devout or simply looking for a new rival to Sons of the Forest, Rust, and the other genre giants, this might be for you.

Changelog - October 9th

[expand]
Wintertodt Updates are Here!
• Warmth Meter has replaced Hitpoints as the resource you need to keep topped up. This means that the Wintertodt's basic and special attacks do damage to your Warmth instead of HP.
  • Two new sets of Sprouting Roots (one on each side) are added to the lobby, which can be used to gather Bruma herbs.
  • Picking Bruma Herbs in Wintertodt no longer grants Farming XP. The reason for this change is to avoid introducing extremely low-effort, on-demand Farming XP methods.
  • Added a 'Drink' option to the Rejuvenation potion which will restore 30% of your Warmth per dose, totaling 120% for the full potion, meaning you'll be able to keep yourself topped up indefinitely if you'd like.
  • To prevent accidental potion-consumption, we've added a left-click 'Help' option to the Pyromancers.
  • Incorporated various additional sources of regeneration into the Warmth system, such as Heal Other, Redemption, the Regen Bracelet and the Hitpoints cape.
  • The following items now all count as Warm Clothing:
    • Wolf Mask
    • Earmuffs
    • Cap and Goggles
    • Woolly Hat
    • Bobble Hat
    • Jester Hat
    • Tri-Jester Hat
  • Added a slightly longer cooldown on being interrupted by the Wintertodt's basic attacks while fletching your Bruma roots into kindling, so that you'll be guaranteed to fit a few fletches in before being interrupted and not have to deal with a string of interruptions that do little beyond frustrate you.
  • Converted Supply Crates to the Reward Pile: For every crate you would have earned or every roll you would have gotten (in cases where you might obtain a significant number of points and therefore have a crate with multiple loot rolls), you'll get another search added to the Reward Pile.
  • You can now track how many rewards you’ve claimed from Wintertodt directly in the Collection Log under the Wintertodt tab.
  • When you enter Wintertodt, a Warm Clothing indicator message will appear in chat, notifying you if you're below the four-piece Warm Clothing cap.

Other changes:
  • Fixed an issue where the scroll down of the Chugging Barrel wasn't working as intended to view the loadouts at the bottom of the configuration page.
  • Updated the loadouts interface to show the availability of doses in the Potion Storage. This can be seen by a red circle near the potion, indicating that it is not found neither in Potion Storage nor in the bank.
Colossal Wyrm Agility Course Changes
• Based on your feedback , we’ve made the following changes to the Advanced Colossal Wyrm Agility Course to better align with other courses at a similar level:
    • Increased obstacle XP from 62 to 70.
    • Increased XP on completion from 325 to 358.
    • This should increase XP/hr from the Advanced Course from ~40k XP/hr to ~44k XP/hr.
  • Increased the Termites gained on Advanced Course obstacles, from '8 to 10' to '12 to 15'. For further clarification, please see below.

Wintertodt Updates are Here!

We're excited to bring the chilling Wintertodt updates into the live game! Lots of you jumped in and helped us test out the new additions through our beta last week, and following your feedback, we're now able to take full advantage of the changes with your live game accounts.

Before diving into the specifics, we'd like draw your attention to a change on logging out inside Wintertodt: Once the update goes live, if you had logged out in the Wintertodt arena, you'll be moved outside to the Doors of Dinh - that is the case if you were on a normal world. For those in a Deadman world, they will be relocated to the nearby bank to ensure their safety. Just a quick heads up!

So wrap up in some Warm clothing and let's take a look at what to expect!
Warmth Meter
As a warm up, let's kick things off with the Warmth Meter. When you hop into the lobby, you’ll spot the new and eagerly-awaited Warmth Meter at the top left, displayed in orange matching your Pyromancer garb. Warmth effectively replaces Hitpoints as the resource you need to keep topped up if you'd like to avoid being frozen into an early grave. This means that the Wintertodt's basic and special attacks do damage to your Warmth instead of HP, but wearing Warm clothing or lighting more braziers will reduce the damage - essentially the same mechanics you’re used to, but with a fresh twist.

You’ll also find two new sets of Sprouting Roots (one on each side), which can be used to gather Bruma herbs and speaking of said herbs, picking these exclusive herbs in Wintertodt no longer grants Farming XP. The previous XP was minimal and the overwhelming majority of players weren't engaging with Rejuvenation Potions in the first place. The reason for this change is to avoid introducing extremely low-effort, on-demand Farming XP methods, helping to maintain consistency with current game mechanics.

Back to Warmth Meter! The key thing to remember is that decreases to Warmth are universal and apply to everybody in the same way. So whether you’ve got 10 Hitpoints or 99, you’ll take the same amount of damage to your Warmth and use the same resources to replenish it. In essence, 100% Warmth is equivalent to 10 Hitpoints before the change but with a little more granularity.

Regeneration

Over Time
Just like Hitpoints, Warmth naturally regenerates over time. You'll regenerate 8% Warmth every minute, plus an additional 1% for every piece of Warm clothing you wear. If you notice it randomly jumping up then don't report it as a bug - it's a feature!

Food
When it comes to replenishing your Warmth, it is simple and doesn't require a change in behaviour - you can just use food! So long as a piece of food provides at least 4 Hitpoints per bite, such as a Cake, you'll replenish 35% of your Warmth upon eating it. To stick with Cake as an example, each bite restores 35%, totaling 105% Warmth recovered for the entire sweet treat.

Rejuvenation Potion
Perhaps you don't want to use conventional food and you're all about self-sufficiency and sustainability. Luckily for you, we've added a 'Drink' option to the Rejuvenation potion (shown above) which will restore 30% of your Warmth per dose, totaling 120% for the full potion, meaning you'll be able to keep yourself topped up indefinitely if you'd like.

We know that swapping the left-click on these Rejuvenation potions could make healing the Pyromancers a bit trickier, and you might accidentally use supplies that could maximise your points. But don’t worry, we've got that covered! To prevent accidental potion-consumption, we've added a left-click 'Help' option to the Pyromancers. If you're not familiar with this, you can actually use Rejuvenation potions to heal the Pyromancers when they've taken damage or have fallen to the floor! With these changes to the potions we might see less players running from the South-East braizer to the South-West one after a Pyromancer goes down and calls for their mummy - especially since you earn points for helping them out!

Also in the screenshot above, you can see the new hitsplats for Warmth damage. This clearly separates them from direct damage to your Hitpoints and should make it crystal clear when you're taking a hit from the bitter cold. We've also popped a Warmth meter just below your usual Hitpoints bar so that you can keep your eyes on the action rather than UI elements at the top left.

Feedback Additions
Based on your feedback, we've incorporated various additional sources of regeneration into the Warmth system, such as Heal Other, Redemption, the Regen Bracelet and the Hitpoints cape. This should reduce any disruption to established metas for more experienced players who often make use of these. It's worth noting for Redemption in particular that it might be a little trickier than before to reliably dip below 10% of your Warmth if you're used to using Redemption on an account with high Hitpoints, but it's useable and we have no doubt that you'll figure it out!

Fatal Cold
Keep in mind that while the Wintertodt won't be attacking your lifeforce directly, running completely out of Warmth will kill you. Wintertodt remains a dangerous activity, HCIM are not safe here - keep yourself warm or somebody will bury your bones for Prayer XP while the masses laugh at you.

Ring of Life, Defence Cape and Phoenix Necklace can save you though! If your Warmth Meter gets under 10%, then the Ring of Life automatically will activate and save you. Same goes with Defence Cape, if you have activated the Ring of Life effect on it. Likewise, your Warmth dropping below 20% will also trigger Phoenix Necklace's effect to restore Warmth.
Other Wintertodt Changes
Next up, we've got further additions to the CosyScape list! The following items now all count as Warm clothing:
  • Wolf Mask
  • Earmuffs
  • Cap and Goggles
  • Woolly Hat
  • Bobble Hat
  • Jester Hat
  • Tri-Jester Hat

One extra bit of QoL we've added is a slightly longer cooldown on being interrupted by the Wintertodt's basic attacks while fletching your Bruma roots into kindling, so that you'll be guaranteed to fit a few fletches in before being interrupted, and not have to deal with a string of interruptions that do little beyond frustrate you.

Another change we're making here ties into that point around 'keeping yourself topped up indefinitely'. If you're already familiar with the Wintertodt then this may sound a little counter-intuitive because your Inventory is likely to fill up with Supply crates and hamper your points-earning potential in the next round. Introducing: the Reward Pile!

Gone are the days of Supply Crates bloating out your bank. Instead, for every crate you would have earned or every roll you would have gotten (in cases where you might obtain a significant number of points and therefore have a crate with multiple loot rolls), you'll get another search added to the Reward Pile. It's right next to the bank so that things are kept convenient, and you can even use the 'Big-search' option to loot 5 times at once! This should alleviate bank space issues and make Wintertodt a little more appealing for any Ultimate Irons out there.

Continuing on the topic of rewards; you can now track how many rewards you’ve claimed from Wintertodt directly in the Collection Log under the Wintertodt tab.

Last but not least, when you enter Wintertodt, a Warm Clothing indicator message will appear in chat, notifying you if you're below the four-piece Warm Clothing cap. This should clarify how many pieces of Warm Clothing you're wearing, as what counts as Warm Clothing may not be immediately obvious.

And that's a wrap for Wintertodt changes! Now hop on to Wintertodt and chill!

Further Varlamore: The Rising Darkness Improvements
Drop Rates
It's been two weeks since you began exploring what Varlamore: The Rising Darkness has to offer, which means it's now time to shed some light on the highly-anticipated drop rates! We've got a lot to share with you, so without further ado, let's get into it...

Hueycoatl Drop Rates

Before we start sharing any numbers, we'd like to mention the improvements we made to some of the drop rates from Hueycoatl. Ever since the launch of Varlamore: The Rising Darkness, we had the chance to monitor your feedback closely, and now that we have more information, we've tweaked the drop rates for Soiled Pages and Hueycoatl Hide:
  • Soiled Page drop rate has been increased slightly and the quantity has been increased from 30 to 80.
  • Hueycoatl Hide drop rate has been significantly increased and now also drops 2 - 3 instead of 1.

The following drop rates apply after increasing the drop rates for these. For your information, the Base Chance to roll on the uniques table is 1/23, and this is scaled by your contribution and is individual to each player. Items with increased drop rates or quantities as mentioned above will be marked with a * in the table below.

For those of you who want a bit more information, the chance to roll on the unique table is modified by your contribution percentage, i.e. percentage of total damage dealt. For example:
  • In a solo encounter you'd do 100% of the damage, so your base rate is 1/23.
  • In a 5 man where all players did equal damage, your drop rate would be 1/5th = 1/115. This caps out at 1/20th of the base drop rate.

The MVP also gets a 10% increase to their rate.

Item
Drop Rate
Unique
Huasca seeds (20)
Base quantity split based on contribution: ~1/34
-
Soiled Pages (80)*
Base quantity split based on contribution: ~1/13.6
-
Dragonhunter Wand

Tome
~1/4
Yes
Hueycoatl Hide*
~1/1.5

Huberte
Base pet chance (scaled by contribution): 1/400

Amoxliatl Drop Rates

Next up, we have the drop rates for the powerful Frost Nagua of The Heart of Darkness, the Amoxliatl:
  • Glacial Temotli: 1/100
  • Pendant of Ates: 1/25
  • Moxi: 1/3000
Wyrm Agility Course

Finally, the Wyrm Agility Course can give you the wonderful Squirrel Pet and here's what you can expect at a base rate:

  • Basic Course: 1/28,503
  • Advanced Course: 1/25,406
Hueycoatl Changes
Aside from the improvements to Hueycoatl drop rates, we've also managed to do some fixes for Varlamore's ancient serpent:
  • Empty and Charged Tome of Earth versions now share a placeholder in the bank interface, like other tomes do.
  • Fixed an issue where the personal best time broadcast for killing Hueycoatl wasn't showing in the clan channel.
  • Players can no longer prevent being kicked down the mountain when the Hueycoatl fight restarts.
Mastering Mixology Changes
We're rebalancing Mastering Mixology to better reflect the time and effort involved. You'll now get bonus points for submitting multiple potions at the same time. Here's how it works:
  • An extra 20% bonus for submitting 2 potion orders at one go
  • An extra 40% bonus for submitting 3 potion orders at one go

For example, if you deposit LLL, AAA and MMA at one go, instead of 20/30/20, you'll receive 28/42/28 with the added 40% bonus:
  • 40%x20 = +8M so 28M
  • 40%x30 = +12A so 42A
  • 40%x20 = +8L so 28L

Previously, we announced plans to add a toggle to the Potion Storage interface allowing players to set their potions to deposit into storage by default, even when the interface isn't open. This particular feature is launching today, and thanks for your patience! To clarify, a new toggle button, 'Always deposit to potion store,' has been added to the bank options view. This toggle has two settings:
  • Enabled - Potions will always get deposited to the Potion Storage regardless of which tab is open.
  • Disabled - Potions will be deposited into whichever tab the player has open.

We hope you'll enjoy these changes, but as always, let us know your thoughts. Now, for some smaller fixes and changes:
Colossal Wyrm Agility Course Changes
Over the last two weeks, we’ve been closely monitoring your feedback on the XP rates for the Colossal Wyrm Agility Course and have adjusted them to better align with other courses at a similar level. Based on your input, we’ve made the following changes to the Advanced Colossal Wyrm Agility Course:
  • Increased obstacle XP from 62 to 70.
  • Increased XP on completion from 325 to 358.

This should increase XP/hr from the Advanced Course from ~40k XP/hr to ~44k XP/hr.

Another concern you've raised with us was that Amylase rates were still too low compared to Ardougne, and this was especially notable for the Advanced Course. To amend this, we've increased the Termites gained on Advanced Course obstacles, from '8 to 10' to '12 to 15'.

To clarify, Basic Course obstacles and obstacles shared between both courses retain a Termite quantity between 8 to 10, so if you receive Termites on those obstacles you will receive that amount. However, any Termites received on an Advanced Course obstacle will be between the new 12 to 15 value, meaning you should see a noticeable increase to Termites gained when repeatedly doing the Advanced Course.

We hope these two buffs bring the Colossal Wyrm Agility Course more in line with your feedback. We'll pay close attention to your thoughts, so let us know what you think!
