Changelog June 11th

[expand]

Yama Tweaks
  • The boosted pet drop rate from the Contract of Familiar Acquisition now applies to both players if they are in the same Group Ironman team.
  • Emberlight's special attack no longer reduces Yama’s offensive stats, preventing him from being rendered completely harmless via repeated stat drains.
  • Ruby and Diamond Bolt (e) special effects no longer trigger when fighting Yama during the Glyphic Attenuation contract to enforce the intended melee-only strategy.
Other Changes
  • Abyssal scions now max hit for 10 with melee, down from 15.
  • Noted Crushed Bird Nests will no longer be deleted when destroying a Looting Bag in the Wilderness.
  • Using the Quetzal Whistle to teleport no longer causes delayed damage after arrival, preventing deaths from damage queued during the teleport animation.
  • Prayer Regeneration Potions now reset in the same way that Divine Potions and the Saturated Heart do, when a player dies or visits minigames that reset their stats.
  • Thralls will no longer deal damage to Kurasks and Turoths.
  • The Collection Log overview can now be opened at the same time as the Combat Achievement interface.
  • The collapsed version of the Chambers of Xeric helper panel no longer overlaps with the points menu.
  • You can no longer lose Tithe Farm points by reactivating the auto-weed, having just purchased it. Refilling Gricoller's Can through the Tithe Farm Shop is now free.
  • The elemental wizards south of Falador now correctly take damage from all elemental spells except their own, which heal them instead.
  • Items dropped on the stairs in Pothole Dungeon can now be picked up without problems.
  • Fixed an issue where the Shaman's Tome could not be obtained during Legends' Quest.
  • Broodoo Shields now correctly have a 1/10 chance to drain attacker stats when taking damage from monsters, consuming a charge and triggering their unique effect.
  • Efaritay's Aid now consumes only one charge rather than two when buffing a single attack.
  • Fixed an issue where repeatedly clicking “Apply” at Yrsa’s Shoe Store could stack multiple dialogues.
  • The animation for adding logs to a bonfire can now be ended more reliably when switching to other skilling activities.
  • Updated the Tribal Totem Quest Log to refer to GPDT Employees instead of "R.P.D.T. men”.
  • Tinsay is now correctly credited with teaching players how to cook Karambwan in Tai Bwo Wannai Trio quest dialogue.
  • The entrance door of the Lumbridge pub now opens to the left instead of the right.
  • The Runecrafting Skill Guide now lists what elements combination Runes will provide you with.

Yama Tweaks

We’ve made a few little adjustments to Yama this week!
GIM and Pet
First up: great news for our Group Ironman players! The boosted pet drop rate for Yama now applies to both players if you're in the same group. No more watching your teammate get all the perks while you get moral support and a few bones. Group content is meant to be tackled as a group, after all!
Cheesy Emberlight?
Some of you clever clogs discovered that Emberlight’s special attack could be used to repeatedly drain Yama’s offensive stats - basically turning him into a mildly annoyed training dummy. While we admire the creativity, that strategy pretty much deleted the intended challenge, so we’ve had to fix it.

Emberlight's special will no longer reduce Yama’s offensive stats, meaning you'll have to actually engage with the fight instead of putting the boss in time-out. We know this is a pretty firm change, but we wanted to get a robust fix out first - we're open to exploring slightly less harsh alternatives in the future, if it makes sense to do so. Let us know what you think!
The Bolt Ban
Finally, a quick note for those working on the Glyphic Attenuation contract. It’s supposed to be a melee-only challenge - a test of your ability to get up close and personal. However, special effects from Ruby and Diamond Enchanted Bolts were giving players an unintended edge. We've now disabled those effects during this contract.

We know this one might sting for anyone who’s been leaning on that strategy to get through. If you've already completed it that way, fair play - you got in before the fix. However, going forward, it’s all about melee!

Poll 84, AFK Timer & More! | June 4th

This week’s update delivers a handful of Poll 84 adjustments and enhances the Official Client with a new customisable AFK logout timer!

Changelog - June 4th

[expand]

Poll 84 Changes
  • A new right-click “Modify Offer” option has been added to the Grand Exchange interface, allowing players to edit buy or sell offers directly from the status page without cancelling and re-entering them.
  • Added a "Repeat Offer" button to the Grand Exchange, allowing players to quickly resubmit their last buy or sell offer with the same item, price, and quantity.
  • The Abyssal Sire no longer fully heals when defeated too quickly during phase transitions, reducing unintended punishment for high burst damage.
  • The chance of receiving a Gout Tuber now increases with higher Woodcutting levels.
  • You can now empty the small meat pouch when near banks or on the top floor of the Hunters' Guild.
  • Cat chasing rats will no longer delay your character.
Official Client & Mobile
  • Added a new AFK Logout Timer setting to the Official Client (desktop and mobile), letting players choose their idle logout time in 5-minute increments, up to a maximum of 25 minutes.
Yama Tweaks
  • If you already own a Radiant Oathplate or any piece of the Sigil, the Contractually Unbound Combat Achievement task will now be retroactively completed.
  • Fixed a tricky bug where the Shadow Dancer Combat Achievement task could unfairly fail if you got teleported on the same tick as when the damage was dealt.
  • Voidflare HP has been lowered from 83 to 81 during the Demonic familiar and Divine severance contracts.
  • The pet contract drop rate has been boosted from 1/250 to 1/100, and now both players will benefit from the contract - unless the non-contract player is an Iron, in which case they’ll have to bring their own.
  • The number of Aether Runes required to craft each piece of Radiant Oathplate has been reduced from 10,000 to 2,500.
  • Fixed a bug where the standing pet animation for Yama wasn't working.
Other Changes
  • Fixed a bug where Steam achievements could be unlocked without the required progression.
  • Surge potions can now be stored inside the COX storage unit.
  • Players can no longer walk into the scenery in the south of the task-only Wyvern cave at Mudskipper Point.
  • You will now be unable to enter Yama when skulled on DMM worlds.

Poll 84 Changes
Grand Exchange Interface Improvements
We’ve made a couple of handy updates to the Grand Exchange (GE) interface to make your hustle better than ever!

Gone are the days of cancelling and re-entering GE offers! A new right-click “Modify Offer” option has been added, allowing you to edit existing buy or sell offers directly from the status page!

If you can’t see the image above, click here!

We’ve also introduced a “Repeat Offer” button, located in the top-left corner of the window. Just placed an offer? Click that button and your last deal’s item, price, and quantity are pre-filled and ready to be adjusted. Whether you were buying or selling, it’s all there, minus the admin.

Selling but low on stock? The sell offer will automatically adjust to how much you’ve actually got, and if you’re fresh out of the goods, you’ll get a friendly chat message to let you know. The GE History button also still lets you repeat previous buy offers with a quick click.
Abyssal Sire Healing Tweaks
Bursting down the Abyssal Sire during his phase transitions only to watch him bounce back to full health was about as fun as a chinchompa to the face.

So, we’ve dialled down his healing a bit:
  • Bring him to 0 HP while he’s wandering? He now wakes up with just over 40% health.
  • Catch him setting up that big ol’ apocalypse attack? He’ll only heal to about 20%.
  • Stun him while he’s still seated? Yep, full heal and a stun as intended.

No more accidental full-heal surprises, so those high-DPS plays don’t need to feel like you just fed him a full inventory of Anglerfish.
Bonus 84 Goodness
• The chance of receiving a Gout Tuber now increases with higher Woodcutting levels
  • You can now empty the small meat pouch when near banks or on the top floor of the Hunters' Guild.
  • Cat chasing rats will no longer delay your character.

Now, we hear you loud and clear - stackable clues when? You asked for it (and voted for it), and it’s on the way! It’s currently going through its final round of testing, and once it’s behaving, we’ll be locking in a release date. We know you’re buzzing for it (rightly so), but in the meantime, we hope these quality-of-life tweaks keep your merching and murder sprees feeling fresh while you wait for the main event.

Hang tight, clue lovers!
AFK Logout Timer for the Official Client & Mobile
If you can’t see the image above, click here!

Today’s the day - the AFK Logout Timer setting is now live on the Official Client (desktop and mobile)! If you’ve ever stepped away to answer the door, make a sandwich, or just stare at your cat for a bit too long, only to return and find yourself logged out, this update is for you.

With this new setting, you can now choose how long your character stays logged in while idle, up to a max of 25 minutes.

Where to Find it:
  • Head into Settings, then navigate to the Gameplay tab.
  • Look for the AFK Logout Timer setting - or just search for "AFK" to find it quickly.
  • Select your preferred timeout in 5-minute increments, from 5 to 25 minutes.
  • The setting defaults to 5 minutes (just like before), but now you can stretch that idle time to suit your needs.
  • A confirmation message will appear in your chat when you change the setting.
  • The setting is saved per device and will persist across sessions.

If you can’t see the image above, click here!

For full transparency, we were hoping to make this a 30-minute timer, but we hit a little snag along the way. We wanted to get the timer out to you asap, rather than holding it back until we had the extra 5 minutes, but we will continue to work on the issues we came across and hopefully get you the full 30 when we can.

Any in-game activity, including moving your mouse over the game window, resets the AFK timer - so you’ll need to be properly idle to see the logout kick in. Whether you're fishing, woodcutting, or just monitoring a farming patch, this feature gives you more flexibility while AFKing. Set it to suit your playstyle and avoid unwanted logouts when you're briefly away!

Note for Mobile Users: This setting cannot override how your device handles backgrounded apps. Many mobile devices automatically suspend or restrict background app activity to save battery. So, even if you’ve set the AFK Logout Timer to 25 minutes, your device may still log you out much sooner if the app isn’t in the foreground. This is expected behaviour and not a bug.

Yama Tweaks

We've also been continuing to monitor your feedback with Yama and have made a few changes based on your suggestions:
  • If you already own a Radiant Oathplate or any piece of the Sigil, the Contractually Unbound Combat Achievement task will now be retroactively completed.
  • Fixed a tricky bug where the Shadow Dancer Combat Achievement task could unfairly fail if you got teleported on the exact same tick as when the damage was dealt.

Community Event: Mod Wars - Castle Wars Chaos

Join us on June 13th 4PM BST for some JMod Castle Wars action!

We're flipping your classic Castle Wars experience on its head and unleashing pure chaos.

Two J-Mods, Mod Nox and Mod Manked, will be joining the battle as each team's unkillable, flag-thieving behemoths. These aren’t just mascots… they’re mobile megabosses with 1,000,000 HP and a mission.

Here’s what’s going down:
  • As soon as the game starts, the enemy J-Mod teleports into your base and tries to steal your flag.
  • Your team must stop them at all costs, while escorting your own J-Mod and their mountain of hitpoints back to safety.
  • They'll also have a few tricks up their sleeve - so watch out!
  • Think of it as a high-stakes flag game meets escort mission meets boss fight.

Bring your gear, bring your A-game, and get ready for the most absurd Castle Wars match you’ve ever seen.
  • Date: Friday, June 13th
  • Time: 4:00-5:00 PM BST (Massing from 3:45 PM – be ready!)

Old School Runescape private server development is paused 'indefinitely' as Jagex says it has more important things to work on

American RuneScape players are recreating the Boston Tea Party after Jagex hiked taxes: 'They took a page from the British Empire, rather poetic from a British game'

Old School RuneScape (OSRS) recently made a tweak to its economy, with developer Jagex announcing an increased Grand Exchange (GE) tax. The GE is RuneScape's trading hub and Jagex acknowledges that "any update involving your hard-earned gold can be sensitive," so the developer went into some detail on why it was making the change: the short version is the game needs more money sinks to curb inflation...

Yama Combat Achievements
  • Yama Combat Achievements are live!
Yama Tweaks and Fixes
  • Updated the Chasm of Fire Contract overhead icon colours for better consistency: green for Ranged, blue for Magic, yellow for Special Attacks, red for Melee, and purple for binding spells.
  • The Chasm of Fire teleport scroll now teleports you in front of the Voice of Yama.
  • The Master Scroll Book now uses the correct icon for the Chasm Teleport Scroll.
  • Elite Clues are now more common, dropping at a rate of 1/30 instead of 1/66.
  • In the case that you don't receive a Contract upon killing a demon with the eligible style, you'll get a second Ash drop to let you know you’re killing them correctly.
  • Fixed a bug where the Dragon and Burning Claws were not guaranteeing their second hitsplat from the Soulflame Horn.
  • The Phoenix Necklace proc will no longer remove a Soulflame Horn buff.
  • The Dossier no longer mentions the lockbox when opening it.
  • The Collection Log now displays the correct Dossier icon.
  • Surge Potion now has a 6-tick delay when used in PVP areas. The Special Attack Energy will not restore if a player has moved more than 15 tiles away. Additionally, the potion cannot be used if you're already at 100% Special Attack Energy.
  • Diabolical Worms can now be stored in the Tackle Box.
  • Crushing Infernal Shale now guarantees fair returns. You can still get multiple Crushed Infernal Shales per Infernal Shale chiselled, but you're guaranteed to get at least as many as you crushed.
  • Fixed a bug where players could use the Wet Cloth to bypass the Mining requirement of Infernal Shale.
  • The Infernal pickaxe no longer processes Infernal Shale.
  • Increased the buy limit of Yama Contracts from the Grand Exchange to 50 from 5.
  • The Purging Staff Special Attack now counts towards Contract of Glyphic Attenuation.
  • Scarred extracts now work as expected with Aether Runes when using Daeyalt Essence.
  • Added an ‘empty’ option to the Barrel of Demonic Tallow so it can be emptied from the Inventory with the Bank interface open.
  • You can no longer use an Imp Box on Jim to smuggle the Rag out.
  • Fixed a bug where the screen fading to black had a permanent duration if you entered as your friend left.
  • The Oathplate Armour set now has the correct icon in the Grand Exchange.
  • Oathplate shards now appear in the Yama Collection Log entry.
  • Removed the Dragon Chainbody from the Yama Collection Log.
  • The player cost of Worm, Catalyst, and Shard contracts now better reflects the value of their rewards.
  • Removed the Agility shortcut icons from the bottom floor of the Chasm of Fire.

Plus, some hotfixes from last week:
  • Rebalanced Dossier rewards:
    • Teleport Scrolls now appear less frequently and in higher quantities.
    • Increased the drop rate of Radiant Contracts and reduced the rate of Horn and Oathplate contracts.
  • Void Flares now apply special on-hit effects correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where Staff Special Attacks would consume Special Attack Energy even if you were out of range due to range reduction effects like Myopia or Sensory Clouding.

In case you haven't seen it yet, we've provided the Wiki with the detailed Yama drop rates awhile ago, which you can see here!
Yama: Contract-related Tweaks
  • Yama will no longer have increased HP on any Contract except for the Contract of Bloodied Blows and Contract of Glyphic Attenuation. In addition:
    • Contract of Bloodied Blows: Yama's HP is increased by 20%, down from 40%.
    • Contract of Glyphic Attenuation: Yama's HP is increased by 15%, down from 25%.
  • In Contract of Bloodied Blows, we've lowered Yama's prayer penetration on magic and ranged attack from 10% to 5%.
  • All of Yama's Contracts will trigger phase transitions at 75% and 50% HP rather than 66% and 33% HP.
  • For the Contract of Glyphic Attenuation, players with high Prayer bonus gain a damage increase. We've made this damage bonus larger at the higher thresholds.
  • Void flares in 'duo' contracts no longer always spawn with 140hp, making them easier to solo and occasionally more manageable in a duo.
  • It's no longer possible to splash on Void flares during the Contract of Bloodied Blows.
  • Removed the ‘tile ragging’ mechanic from the Contracts of Catalyst, Worm and Shard Acquisition. This is still present on the Contracts of Harmony and Oathplate Acquisition.
  • Removed the Demonbane restriction from all Contracts.
  • To practise for the toughest Contracts (the Contracts of Harmony and Oathplate Acquisition) and money-making purposes, we've added a new option for you: Bring Yama 100 noted Pineapple Pizzas and he'll let you take him on in this empowered form. The fight's identical to the toughest Contracts of Worm, Catalyst and Shard Acquisition, but you'll receive regular loot.
Grand Exchange Tax Changes

To help maintain a healthy and balanced in-game economy, we're making changes to GE tax:
  • Increased GE tax rate from 1.0% to 2.0%
    • Any existing offers remain taxed at 1.0%, and only new offers use the new 2.0% rate.
  • Adjusted the sink rates for several high-value items and removed others entirely.
  • Additional low-tier and early-game items such as food, energy potions, teleport tablets, early-game ammo, and Mind Runes are now tax-exempt.
Other Changes
  • Burning logs at a bonfire now offers the same XP as traditional Firemaking, though they'll still be used at a slower rate than lighting them manually.
  • Players entering through the Guthix portal at Castle Wars will now be randomly assigned a team at the start of each game. Leaving and rejoining the waiting room won’t change your team - your assignment only resets when a new game begins.
  • Dragon Claws have regained their second-hit passing logic.
  • Players can no longer smuggle non-combat items into Soul Wars.
  • The Master Scroll Book now uses the correct icon for the Colossal Wyrm Teleport.
  • We've identified Pure accounts whose Defence level was erroneously bumped from Level 1 to Level 2 due to last week's bug that caused ranged weapons to grant incorrect type of combat XP. Their Defence has now been restored to Level 1.

Yama Tweaks and Fixes

If you can’t see the image above, click here!

This week brings a whole host of Yama or Chasm of Fire-related tweaks, we're hitting you with a big ol' list!

In addition to these tweaks, we know you're curious about the Yama drop rates. In case you haven't seen it yet, we've provided the Wiki with detailed drop rates awhile ago, which you can see here - go check it out!

Yama: Contract-related Tweaks

Since last Friday’s hotfix adventure, we’ve made some significant changes to Contracts based on your feedback.

First up, Yama will no longer have increased HP on any Contract except for the Contract of Bloodied Blows and Contract of Glyphic Attenutation. Yama's HP is slightly reduced on both of the aforementioned Contracts too:
  • Contract of Bloodied Blows: Yama's HP is increased by 20%, down from 40%.
  • Contract of Glyphic Attenuation: Yama's HP is increased by 15%, down from 25%.

On the topic of Contract of Bloodied Blows, we've lowered Yama's prayer penetration on magic and ranged attack from 10% to 5%.

On top of these adjustments, a good chunk of feedback made clear that Phase 3 for a lot of these fights was pretty enjoyable, while Phases 1 and 2 felt like a bit of a slog - particularly frustrating when a small mistake can kill you. With that in mind, all of Yama's Contracts will trigger phase transitions at 75% and 50% HP rather than 66% and 33% HP. This means you'll spend more time taking on the toughest part of the fight, but the HP reductions should mean that kills are a bit snappier.

Here's a few smaller changes we’re making:

Additionally, you can now bring Yama 100 Noted Pineapple Pizzas (his favourite!) to persuade him to let you fight him in his empowered form. This fight is intended to give you much-needed practice for the toughest Contracts of Worm, Catalyst and Shard Acquisition, but you’ll receive regular loot.

Naturally, these changes do make these Contracts easier than before, so we've compiled a list of the first among you to complete the Purifying Sigil, to make sure that players who stepped up to the challenge even when it seemed insurmountable are remembered by the history books, let's take a look.
  • 1) Widega
  • 2) RangedSkully
  • 3) M a x S
  • 4) BoerJohannes
  • 5) I Mster I
  • 6) Gnomonkey
  • 7) Radeyz
  • 8) No1
  • 9) Oblv JRazE
  • 10) Noobtype

We'd like to say a huge congratulations to everybody out there who's completed any Contracts so far, we hope to see some of you tackling these adjusted Contracts and sharing your thoughts with us!

Grand Exchange Tax

As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a healthy in-game economy, we're making a change to the Grand Exchange tax rate. We understand that any update involving your hard-earned gold can be sensitive, so we want to be fully transparent about the reasons behind this change and how it will affect your gameplay.

Why Change the GE Tax Rate?

The amount of GP entering the game has steadily increased over the years, but our systems for removing that GP, known as "money sinks", haven’t kept pace. A change like increasing the GE tax is a meaningful step towards restoring economic balance, helping to curb inflation and preserve the value of your wealth.

The goal here isn’t to punish trade, but to ensure that Old School continues to have a vibrant and sustainable economy for years to come. Increasing the GE tax is one of the most effective ways we can do that.

Here’s what’s changing:
  • The Grand Exchange tax rate will rise from 1.0% to 2.0%.
  • Items under 50 GP will still not be taxed (since 2% of those values round down to less than 1 coin).
  • A tax cap of 5,000,000 coins remains in place for high-value trades as it did before.
  • Existing offers at the time of the update will remain taxed at 1.0%, or not taxed at all, ensuring fairness for trades made under the old rules.
  • Only newly created offers after the update goes live will see the new 2% rate.
Improvements to Item Sinks

Alongside the tax rate change, we’ve also taken the chance to give the item sink system a bit of a clean-up!

In case you’re not familiar: when you buy or sell items on the Grand Exchange, most of the tax you pay gets deleted straight out of the game, helping remove GP from circulation. However, a small slice of that tax pie is also used by the game to buy certain items from players and sink them into the void, permanently deleting them from the economy. This keeps high-supply items from getting too out of hand and helps prices stay balanced over time.

In this update, we’re refining the item sink system further:
  • Added Burning Claws to the sink list.
  • Increased sink rates for several high-impact items, including:
    • Osmumten's Fang
    • Lightbearer
    • Arcane Prayer Scroll
    • Dexterous Prayer Scroll
    • Dragonhunter Lance
    • Dragon Pickaxe
  • Meanwhile, these items are now a little less likely to be sunk:
    • Spectral Spirit Shield
    • Arcane Spirit Shield
    • Kodai Wand

Finally, after reviewing item performance and value over time, we've removed the following items from the sink list entirely:
  • Saradomin Swords
  • Warrior ring
  • Seers ring
  • Bandos Boots
  • Sarachnis Cudgel
  • Hydra claw
  • Kraken Tentacle
  • Trident of the seas (full)
  • Occult necklace
  • Preserve prayer scroll
  • Kodai insignia

Some items on this list might seem too low-price to be worth sinking. In most cases, the real issue is the sheer volume of these items entering the game. We think the GP is better directed toward other, more effective sinks.

You’ll still pay tax when trading these items, but the game won’t be scooping them up and deleting them anymore. We hope these changes will let us focus your taxes on the items that are most heavily in need of an item sink, while still removing plenty of gold from the game overall.

We’ve also made some low-value and early-game utility items fully exempt from GE tax. This includes things like low-tier food, Energy Potions, teleport tablets, early-game ammo, and Mind Runes. These items are useful for newer and lower-level players, and taxing them didn’t really sink much gold, but it did make the early game just a little less friendly. So we’ve cleaned that up!

At the end of the day, this isn’t just about numbers - it’s about keeping the Old School economy healthy, so your GP stays valuable and prices stay fair. We’ll be monitoring these changes closely, and as always, we’d love to hear your thoughts.

Shape the Future of Player Support

We’re checking in - and we’d love your input!

At the end of last year, we asked for your thoughts on Jagex Player Support: what was working, what wasn’t, and where you wanted to see improvements. Your feedback in the December 2024 survey was incredibly valuable and directly shaped the Player Support roadmap we shared in April for both RuneScape and Old School.

Now, we’re back with a follow-up survey to see how we’re doing. What are your thoughts on the Roadmap? Have the changes we’ve made improved your experience? Are there still areas we need to focus on? Whether you’ve recently interacted with Player Support or simply have suggestions, we want to hear from you.

The survey will be live from 29 May to 5 June, and you can complete it here.

This is the first in a series of regular check-ins, and it only takes a few minutes to complete. Every response helps us make Player Support better for everyone, so thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
NEW Shadows of Amascut Novel
If you're left wanting more Amascut content, you're in luck - RuneScape: Shadows of Amascut is set to be published later this year! You can pre-order this novel direct from Titan, from your local bookstore or Amazon. Here’s the synopsis:

Was the Hereditas Expedition doomed from the start? Led by Pontifex Bilrach, the Mahjarrat must find the artifacts of the dead god Tumeken and complete the Ritual of Rejuvenation, otherwise they face extinction. Forced to work together by Zaros, the Mahjarrat form an uneasy alliance, though they all have their own ambitions.

Having found only sand and false hope wandering through the Kharidian Desert, the search is becoming ever more frustrating and the casualties mount as the humans die for the Mahjarrat cause. The desert is vast and full of danger, the sun is oppressive, and there are traitors in their midst. Can the Mahjarrat succeed despite these impossible odds?

Like the other two recent novels from Titan - Gift of Guthix and Fall of Hallowvale - Shadow of Amascut builds on in-game content from both Old School and RuneScape, filling the gaps in lore and introducing characters both new and recognisable. Ideal for lorehounds or anyone who enjoys a good story!
