Bounty Hunter Changes

Towards the end of 2024, we shared with you some improvements we'd like to make to Bounty Hunter, and today those changes go live!

The aim is to address some common issues with build variety and balance, make some of the lesser-used rewards more worthwhile, and support different approaches to Honour PvP.

Conveniently, Bounty Hunter is confined entirely to Daimon's Crater on specific worlds, which lets us tinker with all kinds of options that would usually affect the rest of the game.

While we've shared all this info before, we'll save you trawling back through the archives and bring you up to speed on everything that's changing today, starting with changes to Bounty Hunter-exclusive gear!
Weapon and Armour Adjustments
Remember, these changes pertain only to items that are obtained from and used within Bounty Hunter. Nothing that you see in this list has any impact on the wider game, so don't start running the numbers on whether or not the Dragon Longsword (bh) is worth using at the Wardens - it's not!

Ordinarily we'd use stats images for all of these, but there are far too many for us to go over so we'll save you some mobile data (we know you're reading this at work!) and pop it into a handy list for you all:
  • Dark Bow (bh): Increase Special Attack Energy from 45% to 55%.
  • Barrelchest Anchor (bh): Reduce Attack requirement from 60 to 50. Reduce Attack delay after a successful Special Attack by 2 ticks, meaning your next attack would hit 4 ticks after a successful Special Attack.
  • Dragon Mace (bh): Reduce Special Attack Energy from 25% to 15%.
  • Dragon Longsword (bh): Reduce Special Attack Energy from 25% to 15%.
  • Morrigan's Throwing Axe (bh): Buff Special Attack to have 150% Accuracy. Increase Special Attack damage from 20% - 120% to 50% - 150% of your max hit.
  • Morrigan's Javelin (bh): Buff Special Attack to have 150% Accuracy. The bleed damage from the Special Attack will occur every tick instead of every three ticks. The bleed damage from the Special Attack will be 75% of the initial damage. The bleeding damage will be increased from 5 to 10.
  • Statius's Warhammer (bh): Successful Special Attack hit will reduce the opponents' Defence by 75%, up from 30%.
  • Vesta's Spear (bh): Reduce attack delay after a successful Special Attack by 1 tick, meaning your next attack would hit 4 ticks after a successful Special Attack. Minimum damage for the second hit deals 50% of the initial damage, up from 25%. The maximum damage for the second hit is unchanged.
  • Zuriel's Staff (bh): Reduce Attack requirement from 75 to 30.
  • Morrigan's Armour: Nerfs to defensive capability.
    • Morrigan's Leather Body (bh): Reduce defences from 61 to 35 Stab, 53 to 30 Slash, 66 to 40 Crush, 62 to 37 Ranged.
    • Morrigan's leather chaps (bh): Reduce defences from 35 to 18 Stab, 29 to 15 Slash, 37 to 20 Crush, 35 to 22 Ranged.
    • Corrupted Morrigan's Armour: Nerfs to defensive capability.
    • Corrupted Morrigan's Leather Body (bh): Reduce defences from 27 to 14 Stab, 20 to 10 Slash, 24 to 12 Crush, 28 to 15 Ranged.
    • Corrupted Morrigan's Leather Chaps (bh): Reduce defences from 18 to 9 Stab, 15 to 7 Slash, 16 to 8 Crush, 19 to 11 Ranged.
  • Vesta's Armour: Nerfs to defensive capability so that Statius stands out as the tankier choice.
    • Vesta's Chainbody (bh): Reduce defences from 74 to 55 Stab, 81 to 59 Slash, 89 to 62 Crush, 95 to 85 Ranged.
    • Vesta's Plateskirt (bh): Reduce defences from 55 to 39 Stab, 64 to 42 Slash, 67 to 45 Crush, 71 to 59 Ranged.
    • Corrupted Vesta's Armour: Nerfs to defensive capability so that Corrupted Statius stands out as the tankier choice.
    • Corrupted Vesta's Chainbody (bh): Reduce defences from 25 to 18 Stab, 32 to 21 Slash, 34 to 23 Crush, 30 to 21 Ranged.
    • Corrupted Vesta's Plateskirt (bh): Reduce defences from 22 to 14 Stab, 20 to 11 Slash, 18 to 16 Crush, 22 to 15 Ranged.
  • Corrupted Statius Armour: Nerfs to some defensive capabilities as it's a little too tanky for its level range.
    • Corrupted Statius's Platebody (bh): Reduce defences from 50 to 35 Stab, 46 to 31 Slash, 44 to 29 Crush, 45 to 33 Ranged.
    • Corrupted Statius's Full Helm (bh): Reduce defences from 17 to 10 Stab, 20 to 13 Slash, 14 to 8 Crush, 18 to 11 Ranged.
  • Zuriel's Armour and Corrupted Zuriel's Armour - Adjust 15% special magical attack accuracy when full set is worn to a flat 25% accuracy bonus for magical attacks (spells and special attacks).
  • Zuriel's Hood (bh): Increase Magic bonus from 8 to 18.
  • Corrupted Zuriel's Hood (bh): Increase Magic bonus from 5 to 12.
  • Zuriel's Robe Top (bh): Increase Magic bonus from 35 to 58.
  • Corrupted Zuriel's Robe Top (bh): Increase Magic bonus from 25 to 46.
  • Zuriel's Robe Bottom (bh): Increase Magic bonus from 25 to 46.
  • Corrupted Zuriel's Robe Bottom (bh): Increase Magic bonus from 18 to 32.

These new stats should address imbalances between builds and add a bit more appeal to some historically overlooked unlocks. Let the meta shakeups begin!

… in one moment. First, we want to highlight some further changes to the charge costs of some of the Bounty Hunter items, which should better reflect their strength and popularity. While risking 50,000,000 GP for a Vesta's Longsword feels fair, risking the same amount for Statius's Warhammer just means that most people don't bother bringing their Warhammer out. Here are the new charge costs of five different weapons:
  • Vesta's Spear (bh): 5 million GP
  • Statius's Warhammer (bh): 10 million GP
  • Morrigan's Throwing Axe (bh): 5 million GP
  • Morrigan's Javelin (bh): 10 million GP
  • Zuriel's Staff (bh): 5 million GP

If you've already paid to charge some of these, we've added a message in-game to let you know that you're all the 1,000,000th visitor to Daimon's Crater and are eligible for a refund, which you can obtain by chatting to the Emblem Trader inside the lobby - don't spend it all at once!
Systems and Other Changes
New stats aside, we’ve also made some changes to the underlying systems in Bounty Hunter to make this minigame a bit more enjoyable for everyone.

Up first, it's time to hang up those Phoenix Necklaces. The trusty Phoenix Necklace is fantastic to help stave off death in multi-combat PvP but can lead to some anti-fun play patterns in the 1v1 Honour PvP that occurs inside Bounty Hunter. Used correctly, they're able to make players - in lower brackets especially - effectively immortal. We believe fights would be more enjoyable without them, so we're throwing them out.

Next up, we’re doubling the rate at which players gain EP in the Crater when they have a target and a minimum risk of 50,000 GP. This won’t drastically increase your reward output, and we have high confidence in our anti-griefing systems. Remember though – we have zero tolerance for boosting in Bounty Hunter.

We also felt that Daimon’s Crater could use a splash of colour, so we’re bringing back the iconic Bounty Hunter skulls! These let you easily determine another players' risked GP and let you see whether or not a cheeky target might have sneakily pulled out a new Special Attack weapon at the Bank, or dumped a bunch of their risked GP on the sly. We’re also disabling trading inside the crater to prevent players swapping risk to another account before starting a fight! Here's how it works:
  • If you're risking less than 200,000 GP, you'll have a bronze skull.
  • If you're risking between 200,000 and 800,000 GP, you'll have a silver skull.
  • If you're risking between 800,000 GP and 2 million GP, you'll have a green skull.
  • If you're risking between 2 million and 8 million GP, you'll have a blue skull.
  • If you're risking more than 8 million GP, you'll have a red skull.

Rounding us off is perhaps the most significant of all of these changes: Supply Crates!

If you can’t see the image above, click here!

Not to be confused with Bounty Crates, Supply Crates are something you'll be able to put together in the lobby by stuffing 8 Blighted Manta Rays or Anglerfish, 1 Blighted Super Restore, 2 Blighted Karambwan and 1,000 GP into a crate. You can use noted items to make a bunch of crates, but you'll only be able to bring two into the crater with you. You'll be able to open these helpful care packages while in combat inside the crater to extend fights.

The aim here is to give prospective Bounty Hunters a better shot at killing their opponent and have more opportunities to do so before needing to bank. The nature of Bounty Hunter's Honour PvP means you're looking for that perfect window of opportunity: a flawlessly timed Vengeance, an opponent caught drinking a potion, a lightning-fast combo... you get the picture. If you're fighting a build that has higher DPS (for example, a Pure vs. a Zerker) then you'll often find yourself eating the entire time and leaving before getting the chance to at least try and kill your opponent, which isn't much fun for either of you!

Supply Crates mean you’ll spend less time returning to the lobby, and more time actually fighting. Combined with the EP changes above, we reckon this will improve the Bounty Hunter experience and considerably reduce downtime.

We’ll be keeping an eye out on your feedback about these changes, but for now, just go enjoy them!

Collection Log Updates

You might recall that back in May, we introduced some “absolutely cloggers” updates aimed at making your Collection Log journey smoother, more satisfying, and more fun to track. Well, good news - we’ve just added a fresh batch of updates, so let’s dive right in and take a closer look at what’s been added.
A fresh new look
Let’s kick things off with the revamped Collection Log overview! We’ve given the interface a complete makeover to make tracking your progress smoother and more enjoyable. Everything is now neatly organized into a single, streamlined summary.

If you can’t see the image above, click here!

This fresh layout will make it a breeze to navigate your log, so you can stay focused on the important stuff: collecting. With all your progress in one place, you can effortlessly track your achievements and see how close you are to snagging those elusive items.
The ranking system
We know hunting down those Collection Logs can be grind. To help you stay on track, we’ve added a ranking system based on how many collections you’ve logged.

Here’s what you’re working towards:
  • Bronze Rank: 100 collections
  • Iron Rank: 300 collections
  • Steel Rank: 500 collections
  • Black Rank: 700 collections
  • Mithril Rank: 900 collections
  • Adamant Rank: 1,000 collections
  • Rune Rank: 1,100 collections
  • Dragon Rank: 1,200 collections
  • Gilded Rank: Percentage based, 90% of total log slots rounded down to the nearest 25 (around 1,400 collections currently)

Additionally, along the bottom of your interface, you can now see the 12 most recent items added to your log - perfect for keeping track of your freshest loot at a glance.

To truly make the experience your own, the new interface is also resizable and movable. Plus, it stays open during other in-game actions, so you can track your progress seamlessly while skilling, fighting bosses, or engaging in other activities.
Cosmetic rewards
When you hit certain milestones in your Collection Log, head over to The Collector in the Varrock Museum to claim your Staff of Collection. Reach new ranks, and you’ll earn a staff that matches the tier you’ve unlocked. The best part? You can Right-Click your staff to create an equipable corresponding book. Show off your Collection Log achievements in style!

If you can’t see the image above, click here!
Historical Clogs for Ironmen
No, we’re not introducing charming wooden shoes to the game – but for Ironman players, this is just as good! You can now add historically gained items to your Collection Log.

We understand how frustrating it’s been that the Collection Log didn’t track items earned before its introduction in December 2018 - especially for those who’ve already completed the grind and don’t want to start over. But worry no more! If you’ve obtained these items as an Ironman, you can now retroactively fill in those slots by simply using the items on your Collection Log book.

So, how does it work?
  • This feature applies to a specific list of whitelisted, tradeable items that were part of the log when it launched.
  • Alternative or upgraded versions of certain items (e.g., Zaryte Crossbow instead of the Armadyl Crossbow used to craft it) can also be added.
  • Simply use the eligible item on your Collection Log book, and it’ll be recorded as part of your achievements.
  • Please note that Group Ironman accounts are not eligible for this feature since that game mode was introduced after the Collection Log.

Now you can finally display proof of your accomplishments - the Ironman way!
Collection Log HiScores
Not only will you be able to flaunt your shiny new staff and book, but you’ll also have the chance to climb the ranks on our brand-new Collection Log HiScores board. Get collecting and see how far you can get!

Emote Improvements
Chat-triggered Emotes
Ever wanted to show off your favourite emotes without navigating the emote menu? Now you can!

You can trigger emotes directly from the chat box. Just type "::" or "!" followed by the emote name. For example: "::cheer" or "!cheer" will make your character cheer. Yay!
Emote looping
Get ready to groove because emote looping is here! You can now keep certain emotes like Dance, Jig, Headbang, Fortis Salute, and Sit Down going indefinitely, letting you show off your moves for as long as you like.

To loop an emote:
  1. Right-click the emote in the emote menu
  2. Select the Loop Emote option

Your character will continue performing the emote on repeat until you move or perform another action. So, grab those dancing shoes and let the endless celebrations begin!

If you can’t see the image above, click here!
Sit emote
Need a break from all that adventuring? Take a seat - literally! A new sit emote has been added to your emote menu. This Sit emote will loop by default, making it perfect for chilling at the bank or around the campfire.

If you can’t see the image above, click here!

Now get out there and emote your heart out!

Ahrim's Ornament Kit Returns

We’re happy to announce that players who purchased the Ahrim's Ornament Kit back when it incorrectly gave 3 kits instead of 4 will soon have their missing 4th kit returned!! All returns will be processed on February 4th, alongside other scheduled maintenance.

By aligning the returns with this maintenance, we can ensure that the process is completed smoothly and safely - without the risk of disrupting gameplay or accidentally booting anyone offline.

Thank you for your patience, and we appreciate your understanding as we work to return these items securely!

Bank QoL & Mini-menu Improvements | January 22nd

Today we have a couple of projects from Game Jam V, including Mini Menu Improvements and Bank QoL!

PSA: Before we get started, please note that the Friends List and Friends Chat may be unavailable for a few minutes following today’s update. We expect this to be resolved very quickly, but content that relies on these systems (such as the Chambers of Xeric) will be impacted for a short while.

Changelog January 22nd

[expand]

Game Jam updates
  • Customizable Mini Menu improvements let you hover to view all teleport options for smoother escapes.
  • The new Inventory to Bank Locking feature prevents accidental banking of essential items, making trips easier and more efficient.

Leagues V Ends and Bug Fixes
  • Leagues V has concluded! Check out the League Firsts board in Lumbridge Castle Courtyard.
  • Restored the stats of the Virtus Mask. Additionally, it will no longer appear as “The Batman" floating head in the chat box.
  • Added functionality to remove the Raging Echoes scrolls from PoH furniture.
  • Added Echo Venator Bow Ornament Kit and Echo Spirit Tree Scroll to be marketable via the GE.
  • Added a rotation option for PoH Spirit Trees, accessed by using a spade on the tree.
  • Raging Echoes Relic Hunter sets are now storable on the PoH Armour Stand.
  • The Virtus Ornament kit outfit is now storable in the magic wardrobe.
  • Fixed a bug where the Goblin Decorations would not change the appearance of specific PoH items.
  • The Venator Bow has a new projectile that more closely matches the one in the concept art.
  • Players are now redirected to the Spirit Tree in their PoH when using the Fairy Ring teleports, instead of being teleported to the Fairy Ring, due to the Raging Echo override.
  • Ahrim's Ornament Kit can now be used on an Ahrim's Staff, and purchasing Ahrim's Kits from the Reward Shop will now provide four kits rather than three to match this. For those who bought a set of kits from the reward shop before this update, an extra kit will be added to your Bank at some time post-update, as this is a manual process.
Other changes
  • Updated side panel tabs to match players' side panel transparency settings.
  • Further changes to Chambers of Xeric points have been made to prevent megascale boosting: Personal points are no longer capped at 131,071 during the raid, while regular loot reward rolls are still capped at 131,071 points.
  • Guildmaster Jane now speaks fewer lines of dialogue when she rewards you for completing a contract and offers you another one.
  • Fixed the non-functional options for equipping Trailblazer Tools from the Bank menu.
  • Updated the menu ordering for certain items, including Drakan's Medallion and Pharaoh's Sceptre, to prioritize key actions over the 'Use' option.

Client and Mobile Updates

On Monday, January 20th we rolled out our latest mobile and client update, version 228.2, so the following change is already live in-game. In case you missed it:
  • Fixed Minimenus sometimes inadvertently showing right-click menu options when left-clicking.
PvP Rota

  • 539 - (US) - PvP World

  • 559 - (UK) - LMS Competitive

Game Jam Updates

Back in September we unveiled our talented J-Mods’ latest Game Jam projects! You can read all about them here. After an overwhelmingly positive poll, we're delighted to announce that Mini Menu Improvements and the Bank Deposit Refresh are now officially part of the game!

These changes are all about streamlining your gameplay and making life in Gielinor that little bit easier.
Mini Menu Improvements
Hold onto your capes, folks – it's time to say “Hello!” to the shiny new Mini Menu teleport options!

We’ve all been there – you’re having trouble in a boss fight, it’s time to gracefully bow out, but you’re too busy dealing with a giant teleport menu! Annoying, right? Well, not any more!

Now, you can simply hover over your minimenu to see all your teleport options in a neat little submenu. With a couple of clicks you can travel anywhere you please! If you prefer the classic feel, you can always select the old ‘rub’ or ‘teleport’ options to access the traditional menu.

If you can’t see the image above, click here!

We’re pretty sure you’ll love the new system, but we want to hear from YOU! Share your thoughts on the Old School RuneScape Discord, Reddit, or X – we’re watching and waiting to hear how it feels in action.
Bank QoL
Once you’ve teleported to the Bank, you’ll be glad to see that we have another update which makes restocking your gear a breeze!

In both the Bank screen and the Deposit Box menu, you can now lock individual slots.

If you can’t see the image above, click here!

Locking a slot means that when you hit the Deposit-All button, your locked items won’t be accidentally banked. Never again will you arrive at your Slayer Task to find that those all-important supplies are sat twiddling their thumbs next to your massive stacks of loot.

Remember, the menu locks the SLOT, not the ITEM. If you’ve rearranged your Inventory after locking your slots, you can right-click to ‘Unlock’ them again. They’re off by default and take the place of the usual ‘Examine’ option. Visit the new Deposit Lock Settings menu to toggle them on.

This is opened from the Bank's settings menu:

If you can’t see the image above, click here!

We’ve also revamped the Deposit Box layout to align with your inventory, making it easier and more intuitive to locate your items at a glance.

If you can’t see the image above, click here!

Additionally, if you’re tired of the deposit box asking how many items to deposit whenever you use items on it, you can now enable a setting to skip the item quantity check and always deposit everything in one go.

Lastly, we’ve moved the ‘Deposit Worn Items’ button further away to prevent misclicks.

We hope this delivers a smoother, hassle-free banking experience! Give it a try and share your thoughts - we’d love to hear from you!

Leagues V Concludes

Just like that, Leagues V has come to an epic close! From the moment those buffs started shaking up gameplay to the jaw-dropping leaderboard races, it’s been a journey to remember. The speedruns, the echo boss takedowns, the grand skilling streaks... Leagues V truly brought out the best in everyone.

But now, as we hang up our Leagues boots, let's take a moment to reflect on the fierce competition, the creativity, and of course, the community spirit that made this event such a legendary experience. Head over to Lumbridge Courtyard and check out the League Firsts Board!

If you can’t see the image above, click here!
Leagues V Reward Feedback
We’ve been listening to your feedback on a few quirks with the Leagues reward kits, so let’s dive into some of the details and clear up any confusion!

Building Rugs and Curtains

So, you’ve been trying to place those fancy rugs and curtains from the Leagues kit, but something’s a bit... off? While other rewards (like the Nexus portal) let you just ‘Use’ the kit on your furniture, the rugs and curtains require a little more work.

So here’s the deal:

To place your new decor, you’ll need to right-click an empty hotspot, select ‘Build’, and pop into the Build menu. This system is consistent with how things worked for items of the same kind (think: Deadman Rug), but we're sorry if this threw you for a loop!

If you can’t see the image above, click here!

We’d love to hear whether this system works for you or if you’d prefer a different approach in future.

Reward kits Affecting Multiple vs. Single Items

Another head-scratcher has been how some rewards, like the Leagues V Spirit Tree Scroll, only affect one piece of furniture, while rewards in past Leagues let you slap the kit on everything of that type in your PoH.

So why the change?

Well, we wanted to give you more flexibility with your customization. When League VI rolls around we don’t want you to be stuck choosing just one style for your entire PoH. Imagine mixing and matching your Leagues V and League VI Portal Kits to create the perfect setup – now that’s what we call customisation!

We know it’s a shift, but we believe this will give you way more control over your PoH designs in the long run. As always, we appreciate your feedback and patience as we continue to refine and improve these systems. Keep those ideas coming – we’re listening!

And with that, another Leagues adventure wraps up... until next time!
Leagues V Reward bug fixes
• Restored the stats of the Virtus Mask. Additionally, it will no longer appear as “The Batman" floating head in the chat box.
  • Added functionality to remove the Raging Echoes scrolls from PoH furniture.
  • Added an Echo Venator Bow Ornament Kit and Echo Spirit Tree Scroll, both tradeable on the GE.
  • Added a rotation option for PoH Spirit Trees, accessed by using a spade on the tree.
  • Raging Echoes Relic Hunter sets are now storable on the PoH Armour Stand.
  • The Ornamented Virtus outfit is now storable in the Magic Wardrobe.

Reward point changes

We’ve heard your concerns about the reward costs feeling a bit steep, so we’ve had a word with the Leagues Tutor about adjusting their prices.
  • Echo Ahrim's Ornament Kit: 8,000 → 6,000
  • Echo Virtus Ornament Kit: 10,000 → 8,000
  • Raging Echoes Death Scroll: 3,000 → 2,000
  • Raging Echoes Nexus Scroll: 5,000 → 4,000

With these changes, we hope it’ll feel more rewarding to spend those points and snag the items you’ve been working so hard for. The other rewards will be priced the same as ever:
  • Raging Echoes Banner: 500
  • Echo Home Teleport Scroll: 1,000
  • Raging Echoes NPC Contact Scroll: 5,000
  • Echo Venator Bow Ornament Kit: 10,000
  • Raging Echoes Relic Hunter Outfits: (T1)1,000, (T2) 5,000 and (T3) 20,000
  • Raging Echoes Spirit Tree Scroll: 6,000
  • Raging Echoes Rug: 500
  • Raging Echoes Curtains: 500
  • Raging Echoes Scrying Pool Scroll: 3,000
  • Raging Echoes Portal Scroll: 1,000

We’ve broken down the cost of some items into individual components to give you greater flexibility. For example, a complete Portal Room was initially priced at 6,000 League Points but can now be purchased as a separate Scrying Pool and three Portals. This way, you can pick and choose what works best for you!

Discord HiScores

Curious how the competition is shaping up? Here’s a peek at the Leagues V leaderboard!

If you can’t see the image above, click here!

With only a week left to make your mark, now’s the perfect time to push for glory. Join in on the fun and aim for the top in the #Leagues-leaderboard Discord channel.

There will be no changes to Leagues V this week, but we’ve carefully noted down all your feedback for future Leagues. We know how much you’ve enjoyed diving into Raging Echoes, especially during the Christmas break, but that period is also a holiday for most of the J-Mods. With limited staff available to monitor or resolve issues, we typically refrain from making updates during this period. This break not only allows our team to step back and recharge, it also ensures the game remains stable.

Now that we're into the New Year, the team are looking forward to working on all the exciting stuff we have planned for 2025. We truly appreciate your enthusiasm and the support you've shown this League, and we hope you enjoy making the most of the final week!

UI Changes
Minimap Subsection in the Settings Menu
We’ve given the Interface section of the Settings Menu a bit of a tidy-up! Previously, all Minimap-related settings were scattered throughout the Interface section. Now, we've added a dedicated Minimap subsection there, making it easier than ever for you to find and adjust your Minimap settings! Below, you can see how the new Minimap subsection looks on both the Official Client and mobile.
HiScores Panel Arrows Get a Dynamic Update
In other UI news, we've also made a small tweak to the HiScores Panel arrows. Up until now, the arrows for different sections of the panel remained unchanged, regardless of whether a section was expanded or collapsed. You'll now find that these arrows dynamically update depending on the section state, making navigation clearer.

Trouble Brewing XP Adjustments and Bug Fixes

Trouble Brewing is a minigame all about brewing big batches of booze, but since some changes we made last May, it seems some of you (especially Iron accounts) have been fermenting a little too much XP! Honest Jimmy’s been keeping tabs, and he reckons you’ve had more than your fill, so we’re slightly scaling down XP rates for a few actions in the minigame to keep things balanced. Here's what’s on tap now:
  • Boiler Pressure now awards 25 Strength XP for increasing the pressure.
  • Lighting Logs grant 100 Firemaking XP when lit in the Boiler.
  • Collecting a Bitternut gives 50 Hunter XP, with an extra 200 Cooking XP when you deposit it into the Hopper.
  • Fletching Scrapey Bark now earns 50 Fletching XP, and depositing it into the Hopper rewards 100 Cooking XP.
  • Catching Sweetgrubs now gives 40 Hunter XP, with 100 Cooking XP for dropping them into the Hopper.
  • Adding your team’s water to the Hopper earns 100 Cooking XP.

Oh, and we’ve also patched up a bug that meant only one of the three boilers on each side gave Firemaking XP when lit. Now, all boilers will reward your fiery efforts as intended.

Thanks for bearing with us as we balance things out - sometimes it takes a little while to spot these quirks, but we appreciate your patience and feedback. Now get back to brewing and make Jimmy proud!

Other Changes

We’ve also managed to squeeze in some additional changes:
  • Slayer Helmets now act as warm items at the Wintertodt, thanks to their Earmuff properties.
  • The Araxyte Slayer Helmet's Inventory icon has been realigned.
  • Players' armour no longer occasionally remains invisible after using the Makeover services.

Old meets new as classic MMO players worship a famous Vtuber via gifts of bones so she can max out the Prayer skill

Every time an Old School RuneScape story crops up, there's a period of acclimatisation where I struggle to work out exactly what the players are doing and why. I'm not unfamiliar with the game, having played it way back in the day, but RuneScape at the extremes can be a pretty wild place, a world where players suddenly break the dam on a 16 year-old minigame by overwhelming guards en masse, or some thrillseeker risks a 370-hour no-hit account to get a fancy cape (to be fair, it does have flames)...

Run Energy Changes | January 8th

We're speeding into the New Year with the long-awaited Run Energy changes! Can we get them for real life?

PSA: Before we get started, please note that the Friends List and Friends Chat may be unavailable for a few minutes following today’s update. We expect this to be resolved very quickly, but content that relies on these systems (such as the Chambers of Xeric) will be impacted for a short while.

Now, on with the newspost!

Changelog January 8th

[expand]
Run Energy Changes
  • Considerably improved Energy regeneration at lower Agility levels while leaving it unchanged at Level 99.
  • Energy Drains more slowly in all scenarios, at every Weight and Agility level. This becomes more significant as Agility level and Weight increase.

Leagues V
  • There are two more weeks left to enjoy Leagues V: Raging Echoes!
  • Next week, the Leagues Reward Shop will go live and you’ll be able to spend your hard-earned League Points.

Other Changes

Miscellaneous Changes and Fixes
  • Now that you’ve helped the stray dogs of Falador find their fur-ever homes, we’re removing the Christmas 2024 Event. The dogs will remain with their new owners. Feel free to visit and pet them any time!
  • Zahur is once again making Huasca Potion (unf) as intended.
  • To prevent megascale boosting abuse at Chambers of Xeric, we've changed how unique rewards are distributed. Now players who leave a raid in progress are eligible to receive unique items, but if they would do so, the reward is discarded instead. This ensures that leaving a CoX raid no longer transfers loot chances onto remaining participants.
  • Water jugs in the Tombs of Amascut Zebak fight can now be attacked with Magic, as intended.
  • Dharok the Wretched no longer deals his max hit on every successful attack after his health has been reduced.
  • Fixed an issue where The Whisperer’s tentacles failed to spawn under certain conditions.
  • The left-click/tap option on Runecrafting Pouches will now dynamically swap between “Fill” and “Empty”, depending on their status and what you have in your Inventory. If you were using the Menu Entry Swapper for these pouches, you may need to set "Fill" as the left-click option for the dynamic effect to start working.
  • Removed a restriction which prevented players from receiving Master Clues for 30 seconds after they last received one.
  • Increased Combat Achievement buffs when choosing how many Barrows Brothers to kill for a Boss Slayer Task, so that the maximum is always a multiple of 6.
  • The Scorching Bow now works for a range of demonbane-themed Combat Achievements.
  • Tormented Demons and Demonic Gorillas now correctly appear in the Combat Achievements monster drop-down list.
  • Fixed an issue where pieces of Barrows or Perilous Moons kits would break prematurely when attempting to drop them with the 'valuable item' warning active.
  • Fixed an issue where degraded Perilous Moon kit pieces in free-to-play would delete them.
  • The Clothes Pouch Blueprint can now be crafted with the Costume Needle without a thread, as intended.
  • You can now start the Make-X processes for creating Stamina, Anti-venom and Antifire Potions without cancelling your character's existing movement.
  • You should no longer find that a Portal Nexus to Senntisten transforms into a Portal Nexus to Ardougne (that still takes you to Senntisten) upon teleporting to your POH.
  • You should no longer be told about an elusive reward pile when withdrawing rewards from the Wintertodt reward cart.
  • When founding a clan with other players, the other founding members are now more likely to be automatically added to it successfully.
  • The confirmation warnings for the Plank Make spell can now be toggled on & off via the Settings menu.
  • You can now hold more Bonds in your Bond Pouch.
Wilderness Fixes
  • Food, potions and the Phoenix Necklace no longer go to the Gravestone in the Wilderness, preventing unintended access to unlimited supply.
  • Teleporting to the Wilderness via the Player-Owned House Obelisk now includes an additional warning if the player is in a High Risk World.
GIM Fixes
  • Fixed a bug where the GIM Combat Achievements were showing missing points when all duo GIM tasks were completed.
  • Fixed a bug allowing the use of Ghommal's Hilt 6, claimed in a GIM account for a completed Combat Achievement, on a regular account after conversion.
Visual Fixes
  • Fixed visual glitches affecting certain basic clothing items when wielding the Cursed Banana.
  • The Cursed Banana attack animation is now properly displayed while walking.
  • Horns of the following helms now properly align on Body Type B:
    • Fremennik Helm
    • Archer Helm
    • Farseer Helm
    • Warrior Helm
    • Berserker Helm
  • Fixed an animation issue where the player character turns around while crossing the gangplanks in Corsair Cove. Showoff!
Have Your Say!

Every few months you may encounter in-game pop-up boxes asking you to rate your experience with the game. There are two kinds of questions:
  • A survey question about specific content which varies between scales of 1-5 and 1-10, depending on context.
  • A survey question about your overall satisfaction with the game. This question will appear more infrequently – about once every 9 months.

These pop-ups will only appear while you are idle in a safe place, to avoid disrupting your gameplay. If you’d rather not answer, you can disable these messages in the Settings menu.

Run Energy Changes

No matter what your New Year’s resolution is, we expect you to hit the ground running in 2025!

Throughout 2024, we held two separate betas featuring three iterations of changes to one of Old School's hottest topics: how fast your Run Energy drains and restores. We've chatted about this loads in our beta blogs (which you can find here and here) so we'll spare you from us digging too deep into the 'why' for these changes, since that's old news at this point!

You’ll notice that the numbers below differ from those in our second beta, because we went away and made changes based on your feedback. We’ll also be responding to your feedback after today, in the knowledge that while some activities will be easier, this change is by no means game-breaking.

At a glance, here’s what’s changing:
  • Considerably improved Energy regeneration at lower Agility levels while leaving it unchanged at Level 99.
  • Energy Drains more slowly in all scenarios, at every Weight and Agility level. This becomes more significant as Agility level and Weight increase.

Now let’s see the graphs!
Energy Regeneration
The existing formula for regenerating energy looks like this: (Agility level / 6) + 8.

Keep in mind that behind the scenes, Run Energy scales between 0 and 10,000. This means that at level 1 Agility, your regen rate is (1 / 6) + 8, which gives a regen rate of 8 per tick (since we always round down). To regenerate from 0% to 100% would take 1,250 ticks, or 12 minutes and 30 seconds. At level 99 Agility, it takes 417 ticks to fully regenerate, or 4 minutes and 10 seconds.

The formula which you'll be experiencing today looks like this: (Agility level / 10) + 15.

If you can’t see the graph above, click here!

This means that in the early stages of the game your Run Energy will regenerate noticeably faster, perfect for those taking their first steps in Gielinor. At later levels this will drop off and your Energy will restore at a similar rate to what you’re used to.

Strictly speaking, this is weaker than our latest beta. It's still strong at early levels, but we've reined in the regen a little to compensate for further improvements to drain rates.

Speaking of...
Energy Drain Rates
In our last beta, Energy Drain was almost always slower than the behaviour you're used to, where anybody above Level 54 Agility would always find themselves running longer before their energy drained to 0. A lot of you felt that drain rates were still a little too high, particularly in the early stages of the game, and that there was still a heavy reliance on passively regenerating by walking or standing still in order to really get value out of your Agility levels.

With that in mind, we've adjusted drain rate further so that it is always an improvement over existing behaviour. It can be a little tricky to show these numbers off easily since both Weight and Agility level play a factor now, but we'll try our best!

For comparison, here's how the behaviour you're used to stacks up against what we're implementing today:
  • Existing Drain Rate formula: 67 + ((67
  • Weight) / 64)
  • Drain Rate formula in today's game update: (60 + (67
  • Weight / 64))
  • (1 - Agility/300)

We've got a lower base drain rate (from 67 down to 60) and a new multiplier which will reduce your drain rate as your Agility level increases. Ultimately this means you'll always be able to run a little farther than before, but this improvement grows as your Agility level increases and will be more noticeable at higher weights.

This graph illustrates the difference a bit more clearly:

This graph shows drain rate (Energy lost per tick) vs. Agility Level, comparing our proposed formula at various weights to the existing behaviour. Remember that lower is better for drain rate! If you can’t see the graph above, click here!

This graph shows drain rate (Energy lost per tick) vs. Weight (kg), comparing our proposed formula at various Agility levels to the existing behaviour. Just like before, lower is better! If you can’t see the graph above, click here!

As we mentioned above, we’ll be keeping a close eye on your feedback, particularly in places where Run Energy tends to matter like Chambers of Xeric solos, God Wars Dungeon trips, and Herbiboar. We’re especially interested in hearing from newer accounts about how these changes affect early-game questing, Hunter Rumours with limited teleport options, traditional Runecraft, and anything else you’d like us to know about!

Now go on – get those steps in!

Leagues V Reward Shop

There are just two weeks left to enjoy Leagues V: Raging Echoes! Now’s the time to check off those last few goals and scoop up the remaining League Points.

On that note, the Leagues V Reward Shop will open its doors in next week’s update, so you can pick up all the snazzy rewards you’ve had your eyes on. Which ones are your favourites?

We also have a small update to share regarding one of the Leagues V rewards. During testing, we noticed that the POH Portal is actually a bit too big to fit the space, and have since refined the size. In the image below, the portal on the left represents the original concept, while the middle portal reflects the adjusted version, more on par with the size of other portals. This means the middle POH portal is what you'll receive from the Rewards Shop.

Have Your Say!

Staying connected with our players is our top priority here on the Old School RuneScape team. We actively listen to your feedback and work together to shape the game we all cherish. Whether through in-game polls, surveys in newsposts, or keeping track of your thoughts on social platforms; community consultation and player sentiment are at the heart of Old School RuneScape. To further strengthen this connection, we’re adding new in-game surveys where you can have your say.
