FSOA/AD Beta & Spring Survey - This Week In RuneScape

This week we’re bringing you a weapons beta and a free comic book - plus, the chance to have your say in our Spring Survey!

NOTE: it's a Bank Holiday in the UK next Monday, so the next edition of TWIR will arrive on Tuesday 9th. See you then!

Last month we opened up the conversation around some upcoming changes to the Fractured Staff of Armadyl and Animate Dead. A common theme in your feedback was that it would be hard to know how impactful these changes would be without trying them out. Well, guess what…Yep, we’ve been given the greenlight to launch a beta for the upcoming FSOA and AD changes! Dive in, give ‘em a whirl and let us know what you think.

The beta will be going live on Thursday May 4th and will be available until May 16th.Here’s how to access it:
  • Jagex Launcher
    • Head to the taskbar and close any running instances of the Jagex launcher.
    • Click this link. (links will be updated once the Beta is live)
    • The link will load the Jagex launcher then start loading the beta, logging you in automatically.
  • Non Jagex Launcher
    • Click this link, then log in as normal. (links will be updated once the Beta is live)

On first login, your live save is imported into the beta. You can re-import your save into the beta once per hour.
FAQ
Q: I want to test Animate Dead and Fractured Staff of Armadyl - do I need to have them already?

A: Yes. Accessing the beta will transfer over a copy of your save, so you’ll need to own these items already. You will not be provided with a FSOA or have AD unlocked upon login to the beta.

Q: How do I give feedback?

A: You will be able to respond to some in-game polls in the beta, and we will be coordinating an official thread on Reddit too!

Now Spring is underway and the Fort Forinthry Season is in full bloom, it’s time to reflect - and we’re in the mood for feedback! Follow the (

Completionist Cape Strike & Retro Saradomin God Armour - This Week In Runesc

It’s a Cape-fest this week, with fresh alterations and new polls for further changes!

Last month we announced planned changes to the Completionist Capes, and reached out to the community for feedback. Thank you for your insightful and constructive responses! We’ve now made some alterations to help shape this update, and they launch today. More about them in a moment.

But first: in our continued efforts to improve systems, we’re also adding the following in-game polls today!
  • Should the Master Quest Cape be required to unlock the Trimmed Completionist Cape?
  • Should the Reaper Crew achievement be required to unlock the Trimmed Completionist Cape?
  • Should the Are You Winning, Zam? II achievement (Solo 100% Zamorak) be required to unlock the Trimmed Completionist Cape?
  • Should the full Globetrotter outfit be required to unlock the Trimmed Completionist Cape?
  • Should we consider renaming the Completionist and Trimmed Completionist capes to better fit their requirements?

These polls will run until May 7th, so there won't be more information on additional changes until they are closed.

(Please do note that these polls are not the only deciding factor in future changes, rather they are another point of data that can help us make decisions on this topic).

Now, today's changes! Highlights include new achievements for finding all the Hideyholes and completing each type of Clue, player-requested reputation achievements like My Goebie Homies and Conquered Everyone's Heart, and a brand-new achievement: Granny's Favourite Farmer.

Check out the Patch Notes below for the full list!

The power of faith may protect you, but it might also be a good idea to throw on one of these snazzy Armour Sets, just in case…

The Saradomin Armour Bundle arrives with today’s update, costing 630 RuneCoins - or 567 for Members!

It contains:
  • Replica Saradomin Armour
  • Reforged Saradomin Armour

Both contain a full set of armour:
  • Helm
  • Platebody
  • Platelegs
  • Plateskirt
  • Gauntlets
  • Sabatons

You'll notice it's based on the Saradomin version - we knew we needed to settle on one god, because doing multiple gods would balloon the scope of the project.

We looked at the polls and comments around them, and Saradomin was by far the most requested of the God Armours at the time. We hope you enjoy rocking this excellent fit!

Unwelcome Guests Slayer Content - This Week In RuneScape

It's time to defend Fort Forinthry against four new Slayer creatures - with a little help from your new Slayer Master!

With the recent Murder on the Border solved, it’s time to finally put your feet up at Fort Forinthry. Rest, relax, perhaps work on your fancy new cooking skills… but wait, what’s that sound beyond the walls?

Aaaaargh! It’s an undead invasion! Zombies! Skeletons! Assorted ghouls and horrors!

They seem to be staggering in from the depths of the Wilderness, so it’s probably time to track down their lair and cut the problem off at the source.

Fortunately, the Raptor has already shown up ready to help you rip and tear through the undead – and might even (reluctantly) teach you a thing or two about Slaying in the process. Groovy!

Plus, you can beef up your Fort defences with new guards and a kickass Guardhouse, setting the stage for players of all Slayer levels to have a go at tackling the problem. More on that in the Slayer section below this one.

You’ll need to finish the previous quest Murder on the Border and have 10 Slayer and 50 Construction – then meet with Overseer Siv in your Fort to get started!

With all of these undead roaming around the place, you’re gonna need a Slayer expert; a Master, you might say. Thankfully the Raptor is here to smash skulls and chew Lobster. And he's all out of Lobster.

Now you've got a new Master, let's get to know the enemy. Reports show four new Slayer creatures popping up from the Wilderness in varying numbers: Bound Skeletons, Risen Ghosts, Fetid Zombies and Armoured Phantoms, some of which pose a challenge to even the most hardened Slayers. Here are the requirements:
  • Fetid Zombie - 1 Slayer
  • Bound Skeleton - 1 Slayer (but requires 50 Slayer to get the Slayer task)
  • Risen Ghost - 85 Slayer
  • Armoured Phantom - 113 Slayer

*Please note that until May 10th the location of Phantoms/Ghosts will be instanced, to alleviate the initial rush of players fighting in the same area.

To help combat these monsters you'll want to build the latest addition to the Fort - a Guardhouse - and begin fortifying your Fort with more Fortifications! Like your other buildings, the Guardhouse will be upgradable, and it will offer various benefits around the Slayer skill.
Tier 1
Tier 2
Tier 3
+1% damage dealt on Slayer task, doubled on undead tasks.
2% increased Elite mob spawn chance.
Slightly (5%) increased Ushabti capture rate.
4%* Increased Elite mob spawn chance.
Ultimate abilities have a 3% chance to execute non-boss Slayer targets.
Does NOT apply to damage-boosting ultimate bleed (i.e. Death's Swiftness, Sunshine).
10% increased damage vs Slayer targets below 25% HP.
6%* increased elite mob spawn chance.

*does not stack with similar bonuses from prior tiers

You'll also receive challenges from the Raptor that will result in more bonuses: trophies in the Guardhouse* and the ability to collect Bone Fragments** while on Slayer tasks for your new Master.

Completing these challenges at appropriate Slayer levels (30/50/90) will give you a growing 5% to 15% bonus to Slayer points earned from Raptor tasks.

* These bonuses do stack with the Slayer Helmet bonuses.

**Bone Fragments drop from monsters while on Raptor Slayer tasks and can be exchanged for extra Slayer XP, or you can put them in a Bank.

With this update we've also made a few changes to the Undead Slayer Categories and some combat abilities, to help rebalance some of the early combat pitfalls and shuffle some of Magic's current power into other abilities.

Concentrated Blast and Sonic Wave now share a cooldown and the abilities Wrack, Piercing Shot, Slice and Punish have been improved to better work as filler abilities for each style. We have also updated undead Slayer categories across the game to include more creatures such as Edimmu in other relevant categories, and removed some restrictions that prevent the Salve amulet from being used in the Barrows/Rise of the Six.

Finally, new monsters equal new loot. Both the Ghost and Phantom monsters will be able to drop a Greater Sonic Wave Ability Codex - and you don't need to be on task for this to drop!

Greater Sonic Wave
  • Basic Ability
    • 5-second cooldown.
    • 40%-160% ability damage.
    • Gain 6% accuracy on your next ability.
    • Gain +100 ability damage for 4.2 seconds.
    • Requires 75 Magic.

This will add more kick to your Magic rotation and slot in nicely with the changes to Wrack!

For a full breakdown of the changes, check out the Patch Notes.

Starts April 6th | Ends April 12th | Egg HuntThe Egg Hunt returns, and this time you can get your hands on some adorable Bunny Ears for your skill pets!
Unwelcome Guests
• Updated Undead Slayer categories gamewide.
    • Monsters will more consistently appear in different Undead categories for the purposes of Slayer.
    • Some of the most notable:
      • Skeletal creatures such as Skeletal Wyverns are now treated as Undead, and will work for Skeleton and Undead tasks.
      • Creatures such as Banshees will work for Ghost and Undead Slayer tasks.
      • Edimmu will work for Ghost, Zombie and Undead Slayer tasks.
    • An old restriction preventing the use of the Salve Amulet at Barrows has been removed. It also works in Rise of the Six.
    • Added an Undead cluster task to Laniakea.
  • Updated the colors of recent ability codices to differentiate them from each other.
  • Updated Wrack, Piercing Shot, Slice and Punish.
    • Wrack: 40%-140% ability damage. If the target is bound or stunned, damage is increased by 30%.
    • Piercing shot: Hits twice. Each hit deals 35%-55% ability damage. If the target is bound or stunned, damage is increased by 30%.
    • Slice: 75%-115% ability damage. If the target is bound or stunned, damage is increased by 40%.
    • Punish: 50%-100% ability damage. If the target is below 50% health, damage is increased by 150%. It now has 24-second cooldown.
  • Concentrated Blast and Sonic Wave now share a cooldown.
    • Our reasoning: Magic at current had a lot of power at a base line, but it was reliant on dual-wield spamming Greater Concentrated Blast. As a result, staves were falling way behind dual wield.
    • This change allows us to give some extra power to Staff users with upgrades such as greater Sonic Wave, without worrying about pushing the overall power of Magic even higher.
    • to make this change, Wrack with its new updated stats should now fit into rotations where Sonic Wave previously sat, with minimal changes to damage output.
  • Bone Fragments have been added to the General Slayer Collection Log.
  • Greater Sonic Wave Ability Codex has been added to the Wilderness Collection Log.
General
• Lost Easter Basket maps can now be picked up while a Clue Scroll is active in your Inventory.
  • The order of the Wilderness Sword teleport options has been readjusted. Teleport to Edgeville will be the first option and will activate when used from the action bar.
  • Players not eligible for receiving the Pirate Plunder, will no longer receive the chat message about not having enough space in the backpack.
  • Fixed players not able to earn new rewards if progress was made in previous run of the Egg Hunt Treasure Hunter promotion
  • Nastroth's Constitution and Prayer major reset now requires Attack, Strength, Ranged, Magic, Defence and Summoning to be 10 or lower, rather than 5 or lower, to accommodate players who would need to perform a minor reset to qualify for a major reset.

Spring Festival & Frank's Free Chest 2 - This Week In RuneScape

Spring is in the air! Time to celebrate with eggs and pirates the classic combination.

The Spring Festival returns from today until April 16th. As in previous years, the Festival will be held in the area south of the Archaeology Guild, where you’ll be able to gather up Spring Tokens, take part in Clue Hunts, and battle the Giant Butterfly. Wait, what was that last one?!
Lost Easter Basket
For the duration of the Spring Festival, you’ll randomly receive maps to Lost Easter Baskets while going about your regular adventures – although you’ll have a higher chance to receive these elusive goodies while participating in the Spring Festival activities. You can also purchase maps with Spring Tokens.

Tracking down the Basket will give you a chance at the new Skilling Pet Bunny Ear Token, which lets you add adorable bunny ears to any of your skill pets! Other prizes include a colourful Easter Egg, or the Basket itself, plus two items from the following list:

Back in January, Redbeard Frank asked players to gather up keys, open his chest, and earn extra prizes. A fun time was had by all, but Frank reckons life could always be more funner, so he went back to the drawing board and came back with a bunch of new prizes!

We’ve also made some changes to make sure this event is more engaging than ever.

To start with, players will no longer use Keys, as they caused confusion over how and when the Chest would be available. Instead, we’ve introduced Bits of Eight. For every four Bits of Eight you collect, you’ll get a roll on the new loot tables – yes, that’s tables plural. Just as in the previous version of this event, you’ll earn one Bit every day on login, and one per hour played to a maximum of 16 Bits of Eight per week. Every 16 Bits you earn will reward you with Pirate Plunder, so you’ll earn rewards throughout the month, not just when you open the chest. You’ll also get a Pirate Plunder the first time you log in!

Pirate Plunder contains one title from the Doubloons title list*, an item from either the Regular or Special loot tables below, and a random selection of piratey cosmetics!

We’ve also aimed to improve communication around this event and reduce the noise by adding Bits of Eight directly to your Currency Pouch – except for the first one you earn each week, which will go straight into your Backpack. We’ve also cut down on the number of info boxes that appear when you receive a Bit.

*The Pirate Plunder obtained via the first login does not contain any of the Doubloon titles.
Rewards
It’s double the fun this time around with two loot tables instead of one! As you collect Bits you’ll roll on each table in an alternating pattern – first Regular, then Special. Collect all 64 Bits available in the event and you’ll get eight rolls on each table.

We’ve expanded the tables to include new items, including currently unobtainable ones like the Phantom Deathbeard Outfit Token and the individual Deathbeard Outfit pieces!

Special
Phantom Deathbeard Outfit Token
Scurvy Pet Tradeable Token
Jolly Roger Cape
Deathbeard Outfit - Individual Slot Tradeable Tokens
Two-Handed Swordfish
Huge Cash Bag*
Player-Owned Farm Time Skips
Auto-Unlock Deathbeard Transformation Emote if the last of the above 10 tokens is unlocked.

Large Bag of Components
