First FSW XP Increase! - This Week In RuneScape

This will be a short one today, as we've been busy cooking up fresh ideas in our latest Game Jam! Read on for all the scoop on the jam, plus info on week three of Fresh Start Worlds.

Break out the whiteboards, it's time for another Game Jam! Every once in a while, our Mods across the studio take a period of time to work on passion projects - that could mean fixes for older content or totally new ideas to add to the game. Rather than the more structured approach of regular development, this is all about Mods experimenting with what they are passionate about, either alone or in groups.

In the past, our Game Jams have produced awesome projects like the free-to-play graphics update, which we were able to bring to the game earlier this year. We've spent the last week Game Jammin', and we can't wait to show you what we cooked up for the latest round!

Because we gave the team a whole week to fully focus on their passion projects, there won't be any changes or patches in today's update. However, we DO have some brand new content to show you later this week (not from the Game Jam!) which will launch next Monday.

Fresh ‘Scapers, the XP boost goes up again this week! From now on, XP increases in FSW will be split into two types: those for skills below 70 and those for skills above 70. This week's change only impacts the XP rate for skills below 70, which makes it the perfect week to level the skills you haven't touched yet. Tier 2 Auras are also unlocked to help you on your way!

Here's this week's bonuses:

  • +50% XP (skills above level 70)
  • NEW: +75% XP (skills below level 70)
  • NEW: Tier 2 Auras Unlocked
  • +50% Accuracy in combat

Next week will see the first increase in XP for skills above level 70, along with further upgrades to the below 70 XP rate and another juicy bonus… you’ll have to wait and see!

Today is World Mental Health Day! Show your support for our partner charities with our two exciting new bundles – or just by making a 50 RuneCoin donation, which will net you a shiny new title!

Everything's available until October 17th and all proceeds will go to Mind CPSL, Blueprint For All and RAD (Rise Above the Disorder).

Lead Designer Mod Jack is hopping on the stream for the first of our new J-Mod Sessions! Join him as he discusses design in RuneScape.

See you on Twitch!
Patch Notes
As mentioned in our Game Jam section, there won't be any changes this week as the team have put all their focus into their pet projects! However, our engineers are trying a service-based fix this week that you should be aware of:

  • We are testing a fix to the automatically chosen world you're given when you enter the lobby for the first time after loading the client. This should reduce the frequency with which you're served a Fresh Start world if you're not a Fresh Start player, and vice-versa. This fix will be enabled after the update, once we've verified that it works as intended.

Fresh Start Worlds Launch - This Week In RuneScape

This week in RuneScape, we’re making a Fresh Start!

Fresh Start Worlds launches on September 26th at 12:00 Game Time!

Fresh Start Worlds is a special, time-limited game mode where everyone can re-experience the magic of RuneScape on equal footing! You’ll get to start a completely new adventure with a fresh character, enjoy gameplay bonuses like accelerated XP rates, and earn fantastic rewards. The best part is, you can bring all your progression and drops back to the main game, whenever you choose!*

Whether you’ve been waiting for the right moment to return to RuneScape, or are trying the game for the first time, Fresh Start Worlds is the perfect way to start!

To begin, you’ll need a new account with Membership – perfect for those of you looking to dip your toes into the game! If you’re an existing player looking to get involved, we also announced a bunch of changes last month based on your feedback – including a new feature which lets you use Bonds to pay for Membership on your Fresh Start Worlds account! Read all about it here.

For weeks one and two of the event, we’ll be setting the accelerated XP rate to 1.5x. For the six weeks following, we’ll be gradually increasing the XP rate to a peak of 2.5x (yes, really!) – so keep an eye out for those changes as they happen!

Need more info? Head here for full details!

1] Create a brand new account for Fresh Start Worlds

First things first, you’ll need to use this link to create a brand-new RuneScape account.

If you have an existing account, you'll need to use a different email to log in. We recommend firing up a free one (like Gmail) for your new account.

2] Add Membership to your new account

Existing players can convert Bonds into Membership Passcodes for use in Fresh Start Worlds. Find out how here.

3] Download the RuneScape Client and Log In

Thankfully it's a super small download! Get it here for Desktop or search 'RuneScape' on the App Store or Google Play Store.

4] Select 'Fresh Start Worlds' when prompted on Log In

Make sure not to play your new account in any other mode or you won’t have this option!
Support and Guidance
Whether you’re a total newbie or a returning player, there’s loads of support out there to help you get to grips with RuneScape. Here's a few recommendations to get you started.
  • RuneScape Wiki: Packed full of guides, including ones specifically tailored towards Fresh Start Worlds returners!
  • Our Official Discord: A community of super-helpful players who can respond in real time. Check out our dedicated #FSW channels when you arrive.
  • Communities for Everyone: RuneScape is vast and so is the community! Head here for a HUGE list of player communities you can join.

Need more detailed support? Our FAQ has all the answers.

On behalf of everyone on the RuneScape team, welcome (back!) to RuneScape - we're so excited to start this new adventure with you!

*Note: Fresh Start Worlds launches September 26th at 12:00 Game Time and ends January 9th at 12:00 Game Time. Your account will be automatically transferred from Fresh Start Worlds once the event expires. Fresh Start Worlds characters cannot return to the Fresh Start Worlds event once they are transferred to the main game.

One of the most exciting things about Fresh Start Worlds is that they usher in a brand-new set of HiScores – which means that everyone has a chance to make RuneScape history!

We want to recognise these legendary players, which is why we’ve introduced the tradeable Competitive Halo.

This very limited Gold Halo reward is exclusive to players who achieve the following feats by the end of the Competitive Phase:
  • First to 99 in each skill
  • First to 120 in each skill
  • First to earn the Quest Cape
  • First to earn the Max Cape

Players who gain these substantial achievements can expect their Gold Halo immediately, but for those prepared to play the long game, Gold Halos will also be awarded at the end of the Competitive Phase to anyone who reached the following HiScore milestones:
  • Top 100 for each skill

To be in with a chance at this coveted prize, all you need to do is play Fresh Start Worlds and climb those HiScores!

The Competitive Phase ends on November 7th at 12:00 Game Time. At that moment, we’ll receive a snapshot of the HiScores, and the top 100 in each skill will be awarded their Halos in the following days.

Note that the leaderboard will continue to be updated after this date, but only HiScores registered during the Competitive Phase will count towards the prize.

You’ll be able to watch along with the race for World Firsts on Twitch, including our own stream, which goes live later today.

Last week our very own Mod Keeper dropped in to share some insight about current developments. There’s loads of cool content on the way, including a new skill (!) and further updates to the Legacy of Zamorak storyline, starting with Wilderness Events in October.

You can read Mod Keeper’s update right here on the blog, or catch up with the rest of the team on our Reddit Q&A. Head here to read the thread!

Combat Mini Strike - This Week In RuneScape

This week in RuneScape, the Ninjas are back with a Combat Strike!

The Ninjas have cooked up an epic Combat Strike for us this month!

First up - a game changer for Ironman players. Ironman players will no longer be restricted from grouping up with normal accounts for bossing. We're super excited to better support Ironman bossing with these changes, and you can find out the changes to the restrictions in the Patch Notes.

Secondly, you can now fight Solak – traditionally a group boss – solo! We can’t wait to see more people engaging with this beloved boss.

The long (long… long…) awaited Dagannoth King pet rework has also finally landed, and they’re looking better than ever! You know what they say, good things come to those who wait. Seriously, thank you for waiting.

Lastly, the Zamorak boss loot table has been rebalanced based on your feedback. For all the deets, and all the rest of this week’s changes, check out the Patch Notes!

Fresh Start Worlds are right around the corner, and we can’t wait! It’s so exciting to launch such a special experience for returning players and newbies alike.
We’d like to thank everyone for their feedback, which helped make this event the best it can be.

Fresh Start Worlds will officially launch at 09:00 Game Time on Monday, September 26th.

You can feel free to set up your secondary account now if you’re planning to take part, but don’t log into the game until after launch, or you won’t be able to participate! We also recommend not activating your Membership until release day to avoid wasting any of your subscription time.

And there’s some more good news for existing players: today, we’re launching the ability to convert your hard-earned Bonds into Membership Vouchers that can be used on your new Fresh Start Worlds account!

Here’s how to use your Bonds for Membership:

  1. Redeem a Bond from your standard game account to get a FSW Membership Passcode.
  2. Check your Message Centre on your standard game account to get the message that has your FSW Membership Passcode.
  3. MAKE SURE to log into your Fresh Start Worlds account before redeeming your FSW Membership Passcode.
  4. If you do not have a FSW account, create a brand-new account here.
  5. On or after September 26th, after your new account is created, you can activate your Membership in one of two ways:
    • Log into your new account and select Fresh Start Worlds. When prompted about Membership select the ‘passcode’ option.
      Or :

    • Head to the RuneScape homepage, hover over the Store button and click ‘Redeem FSW Passcode’. Log into your Fresh Start Worlds account and enter your code.
PLEASE NOTE: The Membership Passcode provides you with 14 days of Membership. To continue playing in Fresh Start Worlds using Bonds, just repeat the steps above.

We’ve been a little quiet since we (almost!) reached the end of our announced Roadmap this year.

Later today, we’ll be dropping a new update about where we’re at, what’s coming up, and a few of the big things we’re working on for the future.

Tuesday September 20th | 16:00 Game Time | Fresh Start World Theory Crafting!

Fresh Start Worlds is on the horizon! Join the team as we speculate on our first week in FSW - and share our thoughts on your plans.

See you on Twitch!
Ironman Bossing
• Removed combat restrictions for Ironman accounts interacting with normal ones:
    • Iron accounts can now enter boss instances alongside regular accounts.
    • Iron accounts will now be awarded drops in the same manner as normal accounts, including via Lootshare.
    • Removed grouping and matchmaking restrictions between account types for bosses.
    • Iron accounts are no longer required to use instances for bosses where an uninstanced version is available.
    • In line with the above, we have also removed the Iron discount for instances.
Solak
• Solak will now scale down to solo play using the same values per player as other group sizes.
    • Base lifepoints: 2,000,000
    • Core lifepoints: 125,000
    • Arm lifepoints: 45,000
    • Leg lifepoints: 35,000
    • If players damage Solak to his phase cap during Phase 2, further damage will now continue to deplete Solak’s purple bar instead of scaling down.
    • Removed the clearing of buffs and debuffs for the player who climbs up Solak’s arm.
    • Fixed a double-space typo in Solak’s chat attack callouts.
    • Retimed the projectiles to be consistent with the recent Raksha and Zamorak bosses.

Thank you to all the Solak Discords we consulted on this one!
Zamorak
Bad luck mitigation can now only be accumulated if you are doing kills at 100% enrage or higher.Your bad luck mitigation modifier now increases at different speeds depending on your enrage% of the kill
  • 100% - 1
  • 500% - 2
  • 1000% - 4
  • 2000% - 8
The drop chance of a rare item used to be caped at a 1 in 20 chance with bad luck mitigation, if you are doing a higher enraged kill this cap is lowered further to 1 in 10 at 1000% and 1 in 5 at 2000%
Bronze Boss Titles
Each of the 'Enrage' system bosses now has new 'Bronze' titles, achieved at kills of 1,000% enrage.
  • This is to fill in the gap between achieving the 500% enrage base title and the 2,000%'s silver title.
  • All future enrage bosses will release with Base, Bronze, Silver and Gold titles to reflect this change
Other
• The Dagannoth King pets have been visually updated to better reflect the bosses they come from.
  • NPC health bars should now more reliably disappear when the NPC dies.
  • Fixed an issue where daily challenges were not being progressed in some scenarios when using make-x
  • Fixed an issue that stopped rewards from the daily challenge ladder from being claimed in the Daemonheim lobby area
  • Fixed an issue where Arch-Glacor's Silver/Gold Iceborn titles wouldn't broadcast when earnt.
  • All default gameplay settings have been updated for new players to offer an improved experience
  • The money pouch tooltip has been reinstated.
  • Added missing blocking to walls in the tower south of Lumbridge Castle and the Champions’ Guild.

Free To Play Area Graphical Updates - This Week In RuneScape

Free-to-play areas get a makeover this week, and we've got fab rewards for Prime members. Read on for all the deets!

In our mission to keep Gielinor gorgeous, we’re giving the free-to-play locations a graphical update!

We'll let Mod Blkwitch explain:

During our last gamejam, Mod Alex and I looked at giving a large part of the free-to-play area a visual refresh. The graphical inconsistency in RuneScape is an ongoing issue, but giving even one city a full rework would take a multi-disciplinary team months to pull off. I wanted to go for a more lightweight approach with this project: get those easy, big wins like updating the lighting, changing the terrain, and swapping out the spiky grass for new foliage.

It's by no means a total rework, but with projects like this, we can slowly bring more consistency to the overall look of the game. I'm hopeful that this leads to more smaller reworks that over time bring the game up to the visual standard we all want to see. We hope you like it!

Check out the environmental touch-ups at the following locations:
  • Archaeology Guild
  • Barbarian Village
  • Draynor Manor
  • Edgeville
  • Entrance to Al-Kharid
  • Falador (lighting update only)
  • Goblin Village
  • Grand Exchange
  • Ice Mountain
  • Lumber Yard
  • Lumbridge
  • Lumbridge Crater
  • Paterdomus
  • Varrock

And here’s what we’ve done:

  • Improved textures
  • Improved lighting
  • Updated Skyboxes
  • Updated and added blocking where needed
  • Updated grass and foliage

Once again our friends at Prime Gaming have some fantastic rewards for you!

Coming next week, the latest drop gives you 7 days of Membership and a bountiful Prime Package, containing:

1 Deathtouched Dart

5 Prismatic Lamps

2 Aura Refreshes

5 Pulse Cores

1 monthly D&D reset

Prime Members can grab their goodies from September 13th! Find out more at https://RS.Game/PrimeGaming
Wilderness Ruleset Changes
• Mandrith's special slayer task has been updated, no longer requiring slaying green and blue dragons, fire giants, gargoyles and greater demons. Taking their place are Acheron Mammoths, Greater Demon Ash Lords or Berserkers, Hydrix dragons, Ripper demons and Soulgazers
  • Moved Tetracompass excavation location, due to monsters preventing excavation.
  • Fixed an issue where an Elite Clue Scroll couldn't be completed in the volcano area.
  • Killing Abyssal Lords and Savages in the Wilderness now only decrease the relevant Slayer task count by one.
  • Updated the Greater Demons:
    • Poison and Stun effects can be applied on Greater Demons and their stats have been changed.
    • Implemented a drop table for Greater Demon Ash Lord and Berserkers.
    • The special effect on Greater Demons in the Zamorakian Undercity has been removed from Greater Demons in the Wilderness.
