The Asgard Update (#9)

Ahoy captains!

We just released an update! Thanks to everyone who gave us feedback, and as always we want to give a very warm thank you to our reactive community and especially to our beta-testers for their time and help! Here's what you will find in this update:

  •
Asgard, an Epic New Journey
Hold on to your boat, you're about to take off and travel through the skies and onto the Bifrost until you reach the beautiful city of the gods: Asgard! We are very proud to bring you this new environment that will take you on a musical journey into the skies. Tell us in the comments what you think and try to guess which one is next!

  •
3 New Songs
Masters of the Galaxy by Gloryhammer (level 3/5/9), Tortuga by Alestorm (level 3/5/7) and Welcome to Asgard by Manaberry (level 1/3/6), an original creation for Ragnaröck. Here are some more amazing songs to bang your drums to! Rest assured that we are working hard in order to keep adding more in the upcoming months.

  •
Improved Leaderboards
- Display detailed stats of high scores when hovering the Leaderboard (in lobby)
    - Additional Leaderboard with Steam friends only (in lobby)
    - Blue and yellow combos counted separately on score panel and in stats
Please note to support these new features (and the new ghosts), Leaderboards, high scores and medals have been reset.

  •
More Ghost Options
Five more ghosts are now available in solo (on top of your Personal best) on each song/level:
    - Song Top #1 (from global leaderboard)
    - Player ranked 10 places above you (from global leaderboard)
    - Player ranked 5 places above you (from global leaderboard)
    - Top #1 amongst your friends (from Friends leaderboard)
    - Friend ranked above you (from Friends leaderboard)
You can choose which ghosts are activated and against which one your distance is compared (panel at the front of your boat) in the Ghost settings. Get ready for solo races with up to 6 real adversaries!

  •
Improved Multiplayer
- [PvP Quickplay] Display list of available servers and their status: number of players, song playing, time remaining
    - [PvP Quickplay] Public servers now have a difficulty range (displayed in the list). Songs and votes can only be chosen in this range.
    - [PvP Quickplay] You can create a new server with your own difficulty range and choose the first song. You can play alone on a server while waiting for other players.
    - [PvP Quickplay AND Private] Join the race mid-song even if it has already started (good luck catching up to the others!)

  •
Improved Quick Menu (during a song)
- In solo, opening the menu pauses the game (you can't pause a PvP race of course)
    - Drums and hammers settings are now available in the Quick menu
    - On Oculus headsets, you must now press the Menu button on the left controller to open the Quick menu

  •
New Sound Engine
Better audio synchronization, using the fmod sound engine. This is intended to solve the sync problems between music and rune hits that some players told us about (and for which they used the latency setting to compensate). It also allows us to add cool new features now and in the future (like Pause).
Please note your previous latency settings are now obsolete. We advise you to reset the latency to zero before playing (see Advanced settings).

  •
New “Advanced” Settings
- moved “Latency” setting there
    - new setting to show latency in your score panel (disabled by default)
    - new setting to adjust the “Drum sound compensation” (0% : Play the drum sound exactly when you hit (more accurate), 100% : Play the drum sound exactly on the beat (more ear-pleasing), Default: 70%)
    - Setting “Skip intro” to bypass the logo/splash screens on startup
    - Setting “Hide hands” to remove hand models on your hammers during game

    - “Viewer cameras” can now be activated and chosen from this menu (multiple viewpoints available). This feature allows you to display external camera views on your monitor, independently from your VR view. It can be used to :
    • Provide a more comfortable viewing experience for spectators, either on your couch or during livestreams
    • Create entertaining gameplay videos with multiple camera angles and movements
    • Record yourself playing from a different point of view to improve your technique or give us specific feedback
Warning : Please note this feature may cause performance issues. If you had already activated external cameras using the Steam guide (now updated), please note your camera settings will be reset and you must activate them again through the in-game settings.

  • New “Empty” environment: Just the sea and you, nothing else in sight. Can be useful for performance issues or motion sickness problems.
  • More stable ghost (accurate position, no jumps)
  • Smoother end of song (speed decreases but points are still counted until two seconds after the last rune)
  • Renamed “Haptics” settings into “Vibrations”
  • Clicking on the parchment on the right of the throne displays Game Credits
  • Added a splash screen for fmod credits

That's it for today! As usual, we are still hard at work so stay tuned. You are all invited to share reactions and areas of improvement here, or chat with the dev team on our Discord channel!

The Nidavellir Update (#8)

Ahoy captains!

We just released an update! Thanks to everyone who gave us feedback, and as always we want to give a very warm thank you to our reactive community and testers for their time and help! Here's what you will find in this update:

  • 3 new songs: Mine Mine Mine by Wind Rose (levels 3/6/9), Kampfzwerg by Feuerschwanz (levels 3/5/9) and Join The Riot by Paddy And The Rats (levels 1/3/7). Many of you have been asking for more tracks to bang your drums to, so here are some! Rest assured that we are working hard in order to add many more in the upcoming months.
  • “Nidavellir”, a beautiful new world to explore: each song is associated to a default environment, either “Midgard” (icy environment), “Alfheim” (elven forest), or "Nidavellir": the forge and foundry of the gold-digging dwarves. A menu to select your preferred environment is available. We are very proud to bring you this new environment that will take you on a musical journey into the nordic mythology. Tell us in the comments which maps you would like to travel to and try to guess which one is next!

  • Shield-maidens joined the rowing crew!

  • Choose your avatar in the "User" settings panel (hair and accessories are still random for now)
  • New boat setting: grab and move the combo shields to your preferred position

  • Quick scroll buttons under the song list to go directly to the top or bottom of the list
  • More graphics settings, because each week of sailing leads us to new opportunities to improve the game through player feedback.

To improve our update process during this Early Access, you can now find a public beta branch "previous-release" that will always be set to the previous version of Ragnaröck, allowing you to compare and keep playing if you experience any regressions. Please notify us on discord if that is the case so we may fix it as soon as possible. Please note depending on the version, this branch might not be multiplayer-compatible with people playing on the regular version.

That's it for today! As usual, we are still hard at work so stay tuned. You are all invited to share reactions and areas of improvement here, or chat with the dev team on our Discord channel!
