Windows Release confirmed for Feb. 4. Mac version pending...

The Good News:

The Windows build of The Star Legation has been reviewed and approved by Steam, and will launch on schedule for 2/4/22.

The Bad News:

I have decided to remove the option for the Mac build temporarily from the store, because I am uncertain whether a working build will be ready in time. Here is an update on the Mac version, and why there are delays for it:

1. As mentioned before, the game engine I used to build The Star Legation was updated and it currently does not support export to Macs as it used to (in the earlier version, I was able to create a demo for the Mac without problems.) However, I cannot roll back to the earlier version of the game engine because that version no longer exports games the size of The Star Legation, and it would also require a degree of re-coding many elements of the game.

2. I have several people experimenting with a work-around to the export problem, using a Japanese version of the program. Using this method, an export was successful, but it behaved differently than expected and some re-coding was done to make the beginning of the game play out properly. I am currently unsure of how the rest of the game runs, and cannot test it myself because a Mac is necessary. One of my beta testers is attempting to run this new version on his Mac, but the process of ensuring quality across the entire build is slow.

Unless I can confirm that the Mac export functions properly without bugs, the Mac version will be delayed indefinitely. If such confirmation can be reached, however, I will add a Mac version to the store as soon as possible and will announce its availability here. Keep in mind, I am a first-time programmer and am still learning. Most of this is over my head. I apologize for the confusion and the wait.

The Star Legation release delayed to February 4th, 2022

With great regret, I must delay the release of The Star Legation until February 4th.

I am sincerely frustrated and upset that I have had to make this decision, because the game is finished...for Windows. I ran into a problem with my game engine this week when I tried to compile a beta copy for a Mac beta-tester. Though export for Mac worked for me in a previous version of the game engine, a recent update to the engine now requires a Mac and it can also only be exported successfully using the Japanese version of the engine.

I want to make sure that the Mac users interested in The Star Legation are not left out. The extra time allows me to get the help I need to attempt to work out a solution using the Japanese version of the game engine, despite the language barrier complicating things.

If the problem can't be solved before February, I will release the game on February 4th for Windows users only.

However, while I get the help I need to solve this issue, this extra time also allows me to add some extra features that my beta testers have suggested. I will also be able to add more polish and possibly a few more animations to the game. I have had great response from my beta testers to the beta and I am very, very excited to share this memorable space adventure with you!

Thank you so much for your patience. I will make it worth the wait!
Best,
Andy

Star Legation Release Date Soon and Special News!

The targeted release date of December 21st is just a few weeks away, and things are looking very promising! I am more than 97% finished with the game and am hoping to send out beta copies next week. Of course, there is the possibility of a slight delay because I want to make sure this is as polished as I know how to make it with my limited programming skills, but December 21st is likely!

I also wanted to let you know about some exciting news--I am adding in a fun surprise at the end of the game with the epilogues voice acted by 3 different voice actors. The voice actor you'll hear depends on the ending you get, which will be based on your relationship choices throughout the game. I'm so excited to be working with Katie Otten, Sayaka Mashiro, and Josh Portillo for these final epilogue scenes!

Please stay tuned, and I apologize for the "radio silence." I'm spending every spare moment working on the game so that I can have this epic space adventure ready for you to enjoy over the holidays!

Best,
Andy

Release Date Postponed to Q4

I apologize for the release delay, but even though I have been able to put in 5 to 7 hours a day into development (in addition to my regular job), I realize it is unrealistic for me to be able to complete the game by this summer. I appreciate your patience and support, and want to assure you that daily progress is being made. As a solo developer, it is challenging to juggle all the programming, editing, music composing, animation, sound effects, etc. and move things as quickly as I would like.

The Star Legation is nearly 50% complete and there are processes and systems in place now that will hopefully make development time more efficient. Thank you so much for your interest in The Star Legation, and rest assured, I will finish it and am working hard to make this the best game for you that I possibly can, despite being a first-time programmer.
