Plant Bug Fixes

Thanks to our Superfins beta testers (this and more on the Discord! https://discord.gg/qrHdQnFk ), I was able to corner and smoosh a whole bunch of plant related bugs this week. Sorry to anyone who might have had disappearing plants! You can get them to reappear by clicking on them in the Plant Panel; they will reappear in a bubble, so you can put them back where they belong. Thanks for playing. We appreciate you!

-Ryan, the one who makes the bugs

  • Fixed bug the prevented hardscape from being placed high enough in short tanks.
  • Fixed bug that broke plant loading for plants with a period in their names (Made them disappear when trying to add to the inventory)
  • Fixed floaters not being spawned into stores.
  • Fixed some plants from being spawned with broken rotations.
  • Added way for phantom plants/fish to be spawned back into the tank so they can be managed. (Clicking on them in the panel spawns an identity bubble)
  • Fixed store spawning problems that were sending plants, hardscape, and fish to the very bottom of the tank almost always.
  • Reorganized the way the substrate and water both animate in to prevent situations where the height is lower than it should be based on an animation state.
  • Added a last ditch fix to plants that spawn in with no components, which would make them completely invisible and ungrowable. If this happens they should hard reboot, creating a newish plant in the same location.

Aquascaping Contest Winner!

We have a winner! Congratulations to Kosmo for their winning tank! Inspired by swamp biomes around the world, Kosmo edged out 3 other runners-up in our most recent aquascaping contest judged by AVNJ.

It was an incredibly close call that required three rounds of voting. There can only be one winner, but we can't resist showing off the submissions from the other finalists:

Newt's "Emerald Cove"

Shai's above-ground pond

Lord Hosh's 3300+ gallon tank

A huge thanks to AVNJ for judging and his viewers for voting, and a massive round of applause to everyone who participated. There were so many incredible submissions and we continue to be totally blown away by what folks are able to create in Fish Game!

Thanks to Kosmo's win, the name "Peaches" will now be added to the game. Kosmo will also receive a free voucher for the next Fish Game DLC.

See you all at the next contest!

Fix to Feeding Mode UI

The improvement to the UI for substrate made it almost impossible to select food. It should be fixed now, so you can feed your hungry carnivores! Thanks, everyone, for bringing it to my attention; tell your fish I'm sorry, and their lunch is on me!

SUBSTRATE UPDATE & LIMITED-TIME HARDSCAPE!

Hello everyone! Just in time for the Steam Summer Sale we're introducing a major update to substrates and a pile of LIMITED TIME SUMMER ASSETS.

We've added a pile of new substrates including several different kinds of gravel, aquarium soil, coated gravel, and glass beads. And if you thought we couldn't make a ridiculous trailer about dirt & rocks, you thought wrong. I'd say how many we're adding, but I am writing this a couple days in advance and there might be a couple more that'll make their way in before the update goes live. At least 19.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Not only are new substrates available, but you can have as many different substrates in a tank as you like and layer them on top of one another. Create sand art, differentiate biomes; tons of possibilities!

COMING SOON: non-inert substrates will have significant interplay with water chemistry.

Along with this update, and for a LIMITED TIME ONLY, we've got a pile of summer hardscape. Skulls with sunglasses (why not), shells, beach balls & more. These will only be available during the summer sale, but once you have them, you've got'em forever!

We can't wait to see your new tanks!!!

Our game is a labor of love & a passion project. Please tell your friends, join our discord, wishlist and stay tuned for more!

Other changes:

Updated features:
  • Option in the game settings added to allow for flat fish.
  • Hardscape exact dimensions are now in the hardscape tooltip.
  • Tooltips for the game clock now reflects how much time a player has played in game-days and game-years.
  • Water volume is now tracked in connection to the amount of substrate in a tank, which impacts the amount of swim space a fish senses.
  • Fun new font!
  • Custom tanks can now go down to 1 gallon (you monster).

Alerts update:
  • The alert system has been streamlined to make player notifications easier to navigate.
  • Players can now see an alert indicator in the tank panel, fish panel, and plant panel as needs arise.
  • Panel icons now have an indicator number for the alerts within that panel.

Bug fixes:
  • Rapid fish vibration has been eliminated.
  • Food is now affected by time controls.
  • Hardscape will no longer be lost below the tank and will be moved into the inventory when released in an odd space in the tank.
  • Fish will no longer appear flattened on the tank glass, but an option to retain that bug is in the settings menu for players who liked it.
  • Fish will no longer present with shortened spines that had created oddly short, stubby fish.
  • Improved tanks' visual spawning.
  • Plants and fish located in an inventory bubble at the top of a tank are no longer lost and remain in those bubbles upon returning to a tank.
  • Plants and fish don't die in inventory bubbles.
  • Gaps between the substrate and glass have been eliminated, meaning fish and food will no longer get stuck there.
  • All player-facing fish size data now agrees.
