The Well Concept Art

The Well is the one place in the desert that has water – due to the water spirit Undine allegedly inhabiting the central fountain – and is intersected by shallow water channels, which can be crossed via small bridges.

Most of the city is made of stone, but there are wooden parts that are less permanent. Beside sand color, blue (greyish-blue in the BJA color scheme) can be seen and the red rocks from the desert may be incorporated to ornate architecture.

The city is surrounded by a not too high sand-stone wall. It is not as rough as e.g. the one surrounding Caribou Creek, which is made from individual stones, but smooth. The city is paved in most places. Due to the availability of water, there are quite a lot of plants here, not growing wildly, but in a park-like controlled fashion.

What is the historical context of this area?
Many years ago there was an event called the Turn of Times. All modern technology was lost. People had to reinvent everything and managed to get back to a technological state equivalent to nothing more advanced than the steam age.

This is the most advanced place the player has visited so far (and will only be surpassed by the Boiler Drum, where people have access to steam technology). Because of the Turn of Times, this can’t be an ancient place, so architecture does not have to derive from US architecture or known desert-dwelling civilisations.

But since these civilizations built the way they built for a reason, the architects of the Well may have come to the same conclusions.
