Our Favorite Turn-Based Games Of Next Fest!

We hope you're enjoying Next Fest, and have had the time to play Mech Armada (how did you get on? challenging enough for you?).

Like all of you diving into the festival, faced with over 800 amazing games, we wanted to spend a few minutes just supporting our peers. If you've played Mech Armada that's awesome (thanks so much!), but we also think it's important to give some love to all the other brilliant games that are on the show.

It's incredibly challenging to get eyes onto any game, and we think it's important that smaller development studios help lift each other up. With that in mind, here's five of our favorite turn-based strategy games that you can download now.
Deepest Chamber
After a horrible disease descended over your kingdom, everyone you know was forced to move underground. Now, as a group of former guards and reformed scoundrels you’re forced to scrounge for supplies and descend further and further underground encountering friends and foes along the way. Build a powerful card deck and protect your group to survive this dark, gritty adventure.
Goblin Stone
Explore a beautiful but dangerous hand drawn world as a group of goblins fighting to survive. With goblin-kind on the verge of extinction, your little group of warriors may just be the species’ last hope to survive.
Project Haven
Welcome to Haven City where gangsters, rival mercenaries and corrupt government forces roam the streets. Playing as the Steel Dragons, a crew of unique mercenaries all with their own abilities and fighting styles, you’ll have to fight just to survive this war torn near-future. Bring your friends into the fray in 4 player co-op and enjoy the story together!
Rogue Lords
How about a turn based game that lets you change the rules in your favor? In Rogue Lords, you play as the devil himself who has gathered a group of disciples to help him regain control over humans. Unlock new skills, synergize with your team and use your devilish powers to take back to the world.
War Tales
There’s not much better than blood on your hands, dirt on your face and fresh coin in your pocket. In Wartales, you don’t play as a hero. You play as a group of mercenaries, thieves and bandits just trying to survive in a chaotic world where a plague has swept the nation.

Next Fest demo is up! Ask Me Anything!

With #NextFest you finally get a chance to try Mech Armada for yourself.
I've been developing this game as a solo developer for a year and a half. Ask me anything!

The livestream AMA will be held on Sunday, June 20th (10am PDT, 1pm EDT, 7pm CET) and I'll do my best to answer any questions you have about the demo, the game, development process or what it feels like to do this on father's day.

I hope to see you all then.

I'm playing the Mech Armada demo live!

The Steam #NextFest is almost here!

Besides downloading the demo or watching the re-broadcast, you'll get a chance to see me play live on Saturday, June 19th, (10am PDT, 1pm EDT, 7pm CET) and ask any questions!

I'll be going through the demo and showing you all the cool robot combinations you can make. Then hopefully I can use them to squash the Swarm (or get squashed, I'll be playing in Hardcore difficulty).

See you then!

/Sergio.

Let's Get Bug Huntin'

As a solo developer, the Steam #NextFest marks an important milestone in Mech Armada’s development because it’s an opportunity to really open the doors, and let people experience the game first hand. For the eagle-eyed followers of the game, I regularly post my thoughts over on my personal site. It goes into depth on topics such as “How I run my studio”, whether or not to go “indie” and potential revenue streams of the market.

It’s a personal blog, but the approach is something I want to bring more of to Steam, so that you can get a closer look at my way of working, and my vision for Mech Armada.

When I was designing Mech Armada, I knew it was going to be a turn-based game. You can take your time, leave the game at any point, come back and it will be exactly where you left it with no crazy reflexes required.

I’m hoping such an approach is acutely evident as you begin to play the demo during the festival. While the game very much requires tactical thought, there’s no question that it’s fast and in some respects, quite challenging for those who lack turn-based experience (I’m keen to also get your feedback on this).

While bug squashing as we march towards June 16th, I’ve been hard at work on some quality of life features. From adding a feedback hotkey so you can instantly let me know your thoughts at the touch of a button, to more prominent outlines on targets, and bigger icons to ensure things are that little bit more identifiable.

It’s the little things that will make a difference to the overall experience. Here’s a bigger list of what's been improved recently, and newly added to the demo.
 • Part upgrades are fully available
 • Mechs with 2/3 weapons can use all of them in one turn
 • AoE weapons cause friendly fire (just not on the Mech firing)
 • Added difficulty levels
 • New Main Menu background and layout
 • Full SFX update for the Swarm
 • Swarm moves all at once, instead of waiting for each other to finish
 • Music increases intensity when Mechs and Swarm start attacking each other
 • Quality of life: better UI for selecting parts to equip and comparing
 • Refreshed MAVEN environment
 • Some tutorial updates - now it only triggers in the first run, unless requested
 • Mechs can be given a name
 • Camera punches in during the final kill
 • Cleaner UI for selecting a target - it now uses outlines to highlight the monsters that can be attacked
 • End Turn button will warn you if you forget to use a Mech's actions
 • Cleaned up monster textures so they stand out more
 • Rebalanced part drops and random enemy compositions
 • Added credits (in Settings screen)
 • Lots of fixes and usability improvements
 • Optimizations
