Winter Survival Development Update #16 – Advanced Mechanics part 2🐺

Hey, survivors!

Welcome back to another exciting devlog for Winter Survival. As we continue to shape our frozen wilderness, I’m thrilled to invite you to join me on a jaw-dropping adventure, where I’m gonna be sharing another part of our advanced mechanics series. If you somehow missed the first part, you can still check it out right now by clicking this link. In today’s devlog, I’ll delve into some intricate interactions with the local fauna, highlighting the intelligence and unpredictability of the animals that roam our wintry landscapes. Without further ado, let’s jump straight into the devlog.
Advanced Mechanics 🧠

Wolf Party 🐺
One of the most intriguing dynamics in Winter Survival is the emergence of wolf parties. Picture this: as you navigate the snow-covered environment, you may stumble upon a group of wolves feasting on a fresh carcass. These wolf parties add a layer of unpredictability to your survival journey. Now it’s for you to decide, because it’s a high risk but high reward thing – if you have a torch, you can always try to fend them off and take what’s left from the carcass. Whether you’re gonna be successful or not by doing so depends on your survival skills and how well you’re prepared.
Wounded Animal 🦌
Another awe-inspiring feature that our team has implemented is the wounded animal as we like to call it. Just like in real world, the environment reacts to certain activities that we do on a daily basis. In Winter Survival it's basically the same case.

If you happen to trap and hurt a deer, you have a small window of opportunity to hunt it down and take as much as you can. You never know if there aren't any wolves nearby.
Bear Rampage 🐻
Surviving the winter isn't just about battling the elements and hunger; it's also about navigating the animal threats, especially the bear. In Winter Survival, we've introduced a heavily impactful mechanic where our dreaded nemesis can inadvertently destroy player-built shelters.

Let me give you an example – let’s assume that you’re going out into the wilderness in search of supplies, crafting materials, or just to explore the surrounding area. By the time you come back you might find that your cozy shelter is partially destroyed. Now the question is – Are you gonna risk your life and stay in the area? Or maybe you decide to leave this place and your belongings behind for a while and come back as soon as you feel like the area is secured? Let me tell ya – I’d make the decision sooner rather than later, because our furry friend might be back in the blink of an eye.
Stay up-to-date 📰
As we wrap up this devlog, we're thrilled to showcase the depth and complexity of Winter Survival's game world. The wolf parties, wolf howls, and bear rampages are just a glimpse into the intricate tapestry we're weaving for players. Every playthrough promises a fresh set of challenges and surprises, thanks to the advanced mechanics that make our world truly dynamic and alive.

Before we finish, I’d also like to mention that our friends over at Pyramid Games would like to invite you to check what they’ve been cooking up for their jaw-dropping, set on a Mars survival game - Occupy Mars. The best thing though – the game is currently on sale, so if you’re looking for scientific-oriented survival game, or maybe you’d like to give it to someone special, Occupy Mars will definitely meet your expectations

Winter Survival Development Update #15 – Advanced Mechanics part 1 ⚒️

Hey, survivors! ❄️

Welcome to another Winter Survival’s development update. In our recent announcement I’ve delved deeper into everything bear-related, so if you haven’t read it yet, you can freely do so by clicking this link.

So, what do I have for you today? In today’s devlog we’re gonna dive into more advanced game mechanics – some of those are connected strictly to survival, and some exist to show you the effects of your actions to stay alive, often at any cost. Grab your favorite drink, prepare some snacks, and let’s roll!
Sleeping outside 🛌
Let’s start with the simplest yet most common mechanic – sleeping outside. In most survival games what you’d normally do is to build a basic shelter where you can sleep and save your progress. Then you’d venture deeper into the world in search of the perfect spot on the map where you’d start building your dream base a.k.a. recreating Minas Tirith or something else.

In Winter Survival it’s “just” a little bit different – technically you can sleep outside. However, it can lead to some unexpected consequences. First one being the drop of your body temperature assuming that you didn’t make a fire. Even if you did take care of that, there is another thing – unforeseen wolf encounters, as I like to call it. If you have a torch at hand or even a spear then you might be able to fend them off, but if not… Then let me tell ya – the future doesn’t seem so bright for you.
Cooking outside 🍖
“I’m starving, so I’m just gonna make a campfire and cook some delicious meat that I stole from the unexpected nightly pack of wolves. It won’t take that much time, so soon my stomach is gonna be full, and I’ll be ready for another day” – thought one already dead survivalist.

In other words – I highly advise you to think twice before you’ll make the choice to cook outside as the smell will attract wild animals. If you’re lucky enough you’ll encounter a boar, but what if that’s gonna be a bear? Let me give you some advice – cooking outside is a last resort, and you’ll need to think twice before you make the decision.
Stench 🦨
Just like in real life, doing certain actions will make your character sweat, which will lead to you building up quite a stench. But how is that supposed to be a problem? You might think. Well, the answer is simple – animal noses are far more sensitive than our human ones. Hunting will become a problem as the animals will smell you from a mile away.

As you can see, hunting takes time and proper preparation, so if you want to avoid being spotted before you even notice your prey, washing yourself before will do the trick.
Cargo 📦
Surprise, surprise… It’s a special delivery time. From time to time, a plane will drop a cargo box in a random place on the map. The box will contain some high-value resources, so it’s definitely something worth venturing out for.

However, it won’t be that easy. Not only will the cargo drop in the evening, when there’s gonna be a bunch of wild animals lurking in the shadows, but also you’ll have a limited time to get the resources you want. To find the exact location of a cargo, you’re gonna need to use your walkie-talkie. Think of it as a hot & cold game – the closer you’ll get to the cargo location, the stronger the signal will be from the walkie-talkie.

And this is how this devlog comes to an end. What do you think about some of the advanced mechanics that you will encounter in the game? Did you enjoy today’s devlog? Make sure to let us know in the comments below. However, please do keep in mind that it's still work-in-progress stuff, so some things that you've witnessed here might differ from the final product. Last but not the least, if you don’t want to miss the next devlog or any other news regarding Winter Survival, consider adding the game to your wishlist 🙇
