We have been so excited to see the reaction to The Séance of Blake Manor, especially in relation to the story of the game. The Séance of Blake Manor is a supernatural detective mystery that tells many stories. It was important to us to be as authentic and respectful as possible in relation to the subjects touched upon in the stories and motivations of such a diverse cast of characters.

The game weaves these individual stories into a broader narrative creating a web of conspiracies and mystery that Detective Declan Ward must navigate to save Evelyn Deane and perhaps everyone else at Blake Manor.

Due to the nature of the game we believe that The Séance of Blake Manor fits perfectly in the Outstanding Story-Rich Game category. We would be delighted if you would consider nominating us for this category.

The Séance of Blake Manor is full of many interesting and mysterious characters, and we wanted to tell you a little more about some of them.

Our next spotlight is Olivia D’Arcy brought to life by Sally Beaumont.



About Olivia D’Arcy

Miss D’Arcy is an English fiction writer, specialising in gothic horror romances. She has a fierce yet playful personality that makes her difficult to read on occasion. Her motives for being at the Grand Séance could be two-fold on the one hand it would be wonderful research for an upcoming novel or perhaps it pertains to the tan line around her ring finger where a ring used to be...

Development History

We pitched the game to Raw Fury with a demo. That demo contained variants of D’Arcy, Dupré, Skerritt, Joyce, and Varley – through the gameplay, mystery, and overall gameplay structure was very different back then. These cast and their stories evolved as we went into full production but their essences were there. The original demo was fully voiced which was only feasible because of the small scope of the demo and the kindness of the actors involved. Missus Joyce’s VA (Meabh de Brun) returned to play both Saoirse and Fiadh Callaghan in the final game. We tried to bring back the male VAs Lorcan Mac Muiris, Stephen Lynch, Aidan Larkin and Gary Scales but we were unable to reach them or make the schedule work. Missus D’Arcy’s VA, Sally, returned, bringing our acidic novelist to light.

Sally Beaumont is an English actress and voice actor known for her roles in Old Skies, Harold Halibut and Loco Motive among many others. With over 10 years experience in voicing video games and over 70+ roles Sally was the perfect fit for the mysterious and playful Olivia D’Arcy

The latest update for The Séance of Blake Manor is live now. As always thank you for letting us know about any issues that you experience so that these can be investigated.

Changelog:

• Arwa should now be scaled correctly in the East Tower
  
• Miss Deane's Sparring Partner evidence should no longer seemingly drop out of nowhere
  
• Ines Barbosa should have the correct room number in mystery overview
  
• Fixed an issue where skipping Ruari’s spirit camera dialogue would cause an infinite load screen.
  
• If closing of the Wine Cellar cell doors is triggered before 5pm, Arwa will no longer be locked inside one of the cells
  
• Ines’ shoe size should now be added to the fact list
  
• Status Trigger for Fight Mystery should now be triggering
  
• Fiadh’s Timetable data no longer displays an inaccurate location for the Day 3, 7pm time slot. (She will be in the Library at that time)
  
• Notifications for Ogham research topic will fire even if player hasn't been to the library
  
• Fixed an issue where Varley would kick Ward out of the Manager's Office after getting permission to explore
  
• The shared dream mystery should now progress as intended
  
• Saoirse’s end cutscene will now play out before Doyle appears, also people should be sent back to default locations post cutscene
  
• Arwa’s mystery should unlock when you speak to her (this issue has been fixed, but people who have played on earlier updates might still have trouble unlocking Arwa. If this happens, reach out to us to with your save file and we can unblock you).
  
• Caitlin's quest should now progress correctly (this issue has been fixed, but people who have played on earlier updates might still have trouble unlocking Arwa. If this happens, reach out to us to with your save file and we can unblock you).

We will be exhibiting The Séance of Blake Manor at Adventure X at LSBU Hub Building in London this weekend (22-23 November).



Adventure X is dedicated to narrative-driven games, bringing together developers and gamers with a passion for interactive storytelling since 2011.

We’re excited to showcase our game alongside so many other fantastic titles.

Narrative Design and Lead Writer, Dave McCabe, will be joining Sally Beaumont (the voice of Olivia D’Arcy), Alasdair Beckett-King & Adam Riches for the Finding the Funny: Comedy writing in adventure games panel on Sunday 23 November at 5:30pm.
