  • Removed Light Bulb, Topaz, Copper, and Bluebird from the game
  • Ancient Lizard Blade now gives 5 coins if every symbol is different

  • Booster Pack now gives an additional Common symbol and an additional Uncommon symbol
  • Chicken Coop is now Rare (instead of Uncommon) and makes Eggs, Chicks, Chickens, and Golden Eggs give 1 more coin

  • Piggy Bank is now Uncommon (instead of Common) and puts 2 coins in itself each spin (instead of 1 coin)
  • Protractor now only has an effect every 4 spins
  • Quigley the Wolf is now Common (instead of Uncommon)
  • Recycling is now Rare (instead of Very Rare) and has been reworked to have the effect of "Gives 1 Reroll Token each spin."
  • Shattered Mirror now gives 20 coins every 7 spins (instead of 7 coins every 3 spins)
  • Shedding Season is now Common (instead of Uncommon) and gives Rabbits a 10% chance of adding Rabbit Fluff (instead of 20%)
  • Swear Jar now has a 30 coins threshold (instead of 25 coins)
  • Telescope now only has an effect every 4 spins
  • Time Machine now also makes Matryoshka Dolls take 2 less turns to be destroyed
  • Zaroff's Contract is now Uncommon (instead of Rare)
  • Archaeologist now destroys Sapphires
  • Clubs and Spades now only apply their adjacency effect to Clubs and Spades (instead of Diamonds and Hearts as well)
  • Diamonds and Hearts now only apply their adjacency effect to Diamonds and Hearts (instead of Clubs and Spades as well)
  • Diver now removes symbols (instead of destroying them) and additionally removes Snails
  • Matryoshka Doll now takes 1 less turn to be destroyed at each stage
  • Joker now gives 2 coins (instead of 3) and gives Suits a 2x multiplier (instead of 3x)
  • Mrs. Fruit figured out that the inside of a Coconut tastes good too and now destroys Coconut Halves
  • Witch now also applies a 2x multiplier to Owls and Apples

The above balance changes were made for the following reasons:

The large increase in rent payment requirements is due to the new currencies making the game easier overall.

The change to the 3rd starting symbol as well as the changes to Suit symbols and Joker is to make players have to commit harder if they wish to do a "Suits build."

The removal of Light Bulb, Topaz, Copper, and Bluebird is to make it easier for players to get the symbols they're looking for at the Common and Uncommon rarity.

Ancient Lizard Blade was given the "Red Pepper Effect" to create a bit more of a payoff if the player takes the item and uses it to their advantage.

Black Cat had its first effect reworked as it was close to impossible to benefit from it in its current state. Its second effect was to make "Cat builds" slightly more in-line with other "builds" that take minimal risk to achieve.

Booster Pack now gives a few additional symbols so that it can be more in-line with other Rare items.

Chicken Coop causing Egg-related symbols to give more coins is to give players more of a reward if they gain a large number of Eggs, which is quite easy to do with the existing Chicken Coop item. The item was upshifted to Rare to better match its power level.

Coin on a String and Piggy Bank were changed to prevent them from effectively being "strictly worse Pool Balls"

Comfy Pillow was modified to be a bit less powerful as the reward from skipping a rent payment was too great when compared to the risk.

Cursed Katana had its rarity downshifted as it was close to impossible to benefit from the reduced rarity of Ninjas at the point in the game when a Rare item could frequently be obtained.

Ninja and Mouse had its multiplier slightly decreased as the new currency -- which allows players to easily remove symbols -- made it much easier to achieve a "Ninja and Mouse build."

Nori the Rabbit, Quigley the Wolf, and Zaroff's Contract had their rarities downshifted to better match their power level at this point in the game's development.

Protractor and Telescope now only "activate" every 4 spins to reduce their (incredibly high) power level, while still retaining the fun effect of bypassing adjacency restrictions, just less frequently than before.

Recycling was reworked to highlight the new currency added in this patch, as well as to reduce its power level as it could be previously used to get close to exactly the symbols one wanted over the course of the game.

Shattered Mirror was modified to increase amount of coins it gives on average.

Shedding Season was downshifted in rarity to make Rabbits a more viable early-game symbol. The chance of Rabbits adding Rabbit Fluff was reduced by 10% to better reflect the new rarity.

Swear Jar had its threshold modified to increase its viability mid-game.

Time Machine effecting Matryoshka Dolls is to make the item more viable overall, as most players only had a reason to take it if they already had a Coal symbol.

The additional symbols that can be destroyed/removed by Archaeologist, Mrs. Fruit, and Diver are to improve the consistency of what players expect them to be able to do.

Diver now removing symbols instead of destroying them is to better fit the game's tenet of not having effects that directly destroy animals (because they're cute).

Matryoshka Dolls taking less turns at each stage is to increase their power level when compared to its Common counterpart: Coal.

Witch now applying a multiplier to Owls and Apples is mostly for flavor reasons, but more synergies never hurt!

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed a bug where Black Pepper was "counting up" separately from other symbols and items

Content Patch #2 -- Hotfix #9

The game has been patched to deal with a few bugs.

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed a bug where Swapping Device was not functioning as intended under certain circumstances
  • Fixed a bug where "null" symbols could be added to the player's inventory under certain circumstances, causing a crash

Content Patch #2 -- Hotfix #8

The game has been patched to deal with a few bugs and Content Patch #3 is delayed due to the American healthcare system.

Delay
  • Updated the in-game timer to reflect Content Patch #3's delayed release due to my inability to get my prescribed medication (more information about that below)

This pains me greatly to do, but I physically and mentally cannot get work done on Luck be a Landlord at this point in time.

I have a stimulant medication prescribed to me for my ADHD which I take so I can function as a human being. Without it, it's nearly impossible for me to write a single line of code or plan out new content for the game.

According to my pharmacy, there was an "issue" with my health insurance provider, making it impossible for me to get the medication I need to get work done. Since it's currently a weekend and Monday is a federal holiday in the United States, I will likely only be able to get my medication on Tuesday at the earliest, assuming this non-existent "issue" gets worked out by then.

For this reason, I have to delay Content Patch #3 for two weeks as I can only actually work on the game once I am able to take my stimulant medication for my ADHD.

If you have any questions about this situation, I am more than happy to answer them to the best of my ability in the game's official discord. It's just likely that it will take me longer than usual to articulate properly due to my lack of medication.

I also highly recommend How to ADHD as a resource for learning more about ADHD and my situation. This video in particular summarizes the hoops we have to jump through to get ADHD medication in the United States.

Thank you for taking the time to read this,

-Dan

Bug Fixes

Content Patch #2 -- Hotfix #7

  • The 3rd starting symbol can now be Hearts or Spades (in addition to Clubs or Diamonds)
  • When the "item pool" is depleted, Horseshoes, Bowling Balls, and Four-leaf Clovers can now be offered in addition to Pool Balls
