Steam Community Shop Returns!

Commanders!

We were happy to see that you’ve enjoyed the concept of the Steam Community Shop and actively participated in our Community events. As we said in our launch article, the Community Shop will work in stages, each lasting approximately 2 months. The first stage ended on April 30, 2023, so now it’s time for a new one—with slightly refreshed rewards!
Steam Community Shop: Second Stage
From May 5, 2023 through June 30, 2023
How Does It Work?
Every month, we are launching new Community events, be it Giveaways, rewards for following us on Steam Hub, or anything else. If you participate in these events and complete all the required steps correctly, you will earn a certain number of Community Tokens.

You can then exchange these Tokens in the Community Shop for various rewards that you need most at the moment. These include Personal Reserves, ×5 missions, days of WoT Premium Account, a 2D style, and more. Some rewards can be purchased for Tokens an unlimited number of times, while others are limited to 1-2 times per account.

You can save up your Tokens to purchase better rewards, or spend them as soon as you get them: the choice is yours! However, keep in mind that earned Community Tokens DO NOT transfer between stages. When a stage ends, all unused Tokens will disappear, so make sure to spend all of your Tokens in time!
How to Find the Steam Community Shop
1. To find the Steam Community Shop, launch the game and open the DEPOT section.
 2. Then, find the HOMEFRONT SUPPLIES tab inside your Depot.
 3. Find the “Steam Community Shop” option in the HOMEFRONT SUPPLIES tab and click it to view all of the available rewards for purchase.
New Addition to the Shop: Missions for More Tokens
During this stage, you can invest your Tokens into special personal missions that will reward you with... even more Tokens! We added these missions to the Community Shop to give all players the opportunity to earn more Tokens whenever they want. These missions have quite simple conditions and can be completed by just playing the game. Enjoy!
Earn Community Tokens Right Now!
We decided that it is a good tradition to launch a Community Giveaway with a start of a new Community Shop Stage. So, there you go: like this post and write a comment to earn one Community Token after the Giveaway ends!

To participate and receive a guaranteed prize, you need to complete a couple of easy steps:
 1. Press the “Rate Up” button under this article
 2. In the comments, share your thoughts about the addition of missions that earn you more Tokens.
That’s it! If you complete these steps, you will receive your Token a couple of days after the Giveaway ends on May 12, 2023.

Participate in our events and activities, earn Tokens, and choose your prizes!

Random events and dynamic cover are parts of the Recon Mission mode, which will kick off in May. Each of these brand-new mechanics offers you a fresh gameplay experience and opens up new tactical opportunities on the battlefield.

Random events occur at a specific time and in specific areas of four maps: Safe Haven, Ruinberg, Prokhorovka, and Himmelsdorf. They change the environment around you and the combat situation on the battlefield, so try to use this to gain an advantage over your opponents!

Dynamic cover refers to various movable objects (e.g., shipping containers, concrete blocks, etc.) that you can use to protect yourself against enemy fire. Read the article below to find out more about both mechanics!

Update 1.20.1: Crew Improvements

Commanders!

After the announcement of previous changes and based on the Common Tests results where we suggested our changes to the crew perk system, we received many questions and comments from you. Many of you shared your feedback about potential issues with the new system. We would like to thank all active players again for taking part in the future of World of Tanks. Your feedback is what helps us work out different ideas and understand which direction development should take.
In Update 1.20.1, the Crew Perk System Will Remain Unchanged
The results of the first Common Tests clearly showed us that the suggested changes to the crew perk system required serious improvements. We took into account the point that this new system will increase the skill gap between newcomers and World of Tanks veterans with experienced crews.

As a result, at this stage, we have decided to keep the current crew perk system without changing familiar mechanics. We won't add new perks or rework existing ones in Update 1.20.1.

No action will be required from you with regard to the crew perk system after Update 1.20.1. You won't need to train new perks, adapt to reworked ones, or retrain your crews—in the upcoming update, all current mechanics will remain unchanged. For example, Firefighting will still be available for the crew members of all major qualifications.

However, those improvements that will help make the entire system more comfortable and useful will be released in Update 1.20.1. We will also continue working on updating the crew perk system, taking into account your feedback and data gathered during Common Tests. We will need time to address the issues with more complex aspects of this feature.

For now, here's a summary of the crew improvements that will be released in Update 1.20.1.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Perk Training and Major Qualification Level
There will no longer be skills in the updated system—they will become perks. In the new system, all perks become active immediately once you start training them, even when trained to 1%. At first, their effect will be minimal, but the more you train a perk, the more its effectiveness increases. The same applies to Brothers in Arms—even if only one crew member has the perk trained, the entire crew will reap the advantages of the bonus.

The Mentor perk has become more convenient: Its effect now also works for the Commander.

Additionally, the major qualification level now affects almost all perks (excluding Brothers in Arms). The higher it is, the stronger the perk effect.
Combat Interface for Perks With Situational Effects
When updating the crew perk system, we tried to make it not only more comfortable to use but also more informative. To do so, we added separate icons to the combat interface to display perks with a situational effect.

The situational effect triggers and provides a bonus only when the conditions to activate the effect are met in battle. For example, some perks with such an effect are Adrenaline Rush (accelerates gun loading if the vehicle has under 10% of its hit points left) and Jack of All Trades (enables the Commander to replace knocked-out crew members).

Each time the effect activates, the corresponding perk icon will appear on the combat interface. This way, you'll see right away that the perk has triggered. You can enable and disable the display of perk icons in the game settings.
Interface Rework: Clearer and More Informative
To make the crew perk system even more informative, we’ve also reworked some in-game interfaces.
 • In the characteristics window of any vehicle in your Garage, you'll see how all current perks affect these characteristics. Now you will be able to understand more clearly how particular perks improve your vehicles.
 • Perk descriptions and pop-up tooltips in the Garage, as well as descriptions of the directives for crew, have been reworked to become clearer and more informative.
Finally, an enjoyable bonus: There will no longer be a penalty to the earned Crew XP if you finish a battle with injured crew members.

Once again, thank you for participating in the Common Tests and for sharing your feedback. We look forward to better engagement with you through future developments!

We continue our consistent work on improving the perk and crew system to make them more versatile, useful, and convenient for all players. The listed changes lay a strong foundation for other crew improvements that we will announce in the future. Stay tuned!

New Japanese Tech Tree: Tank Destroyers!

Greetings, Commanders! We’re introducing six brand-new Japanese tank destroyers for you to pursue!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Branching off from the Tier IV Type 1 Chi-He, this new line of the Japanese Tech Tree extends all the way to Tier X. It includes the first upper-tier Japanese TDs in the game, now available for you to command. But before we take a look at the six mighty vehicles coming your way in Update 1.20.1, let's briefly describe their gameplay concept and key features.
Japanese Tank Destroyers: Strong All-Rounders
The gameplay of these new vehicles can hardly be considered unique. At the same time, however, they are noticeably different from both heavily armored assault TDs and sniping "glass cannons."
Firepower
These Japanese tank destroyers are versatile all-rounders with an optimal balance of frontal armor, decent firepower, and adequate mobility. They feature mighty high-caliber guns with good accuracy and aiming time. Their damage per shot is good—but certainly not as good as that of the best damage dealers. However, they have enough DPM to seriously hurt their opponents at both medium and short distances, providing support to allied heavies.

Most TDs in the branch have AP shells that serve as both standard and special ammunition with high armor penetration values, as well as good HE shells.
Armor and Dynamics
The frontal armor of the Tier VII–IX vehicles is thick enough (in some zones) to withstand some direct fire from same-tier opponents, but it’s not enough to operate as frontline brawlers. The only exception is the Tier X mastodon, whose armor allows you to confidently play on the first line. But even this mighty warrior needs to hide its vulnerable lower glacis plate using terrain irregularities.

The top speed of all the vehicles is average, while the reverse speed is great, relative to their frontal armor. However, keep in mind that you won’t be able to react quickly to changes in battle and switch flanks, so you need to plan your routes ahead.

Summary

Most of these new Japanese tank destroyers are strong "midfielders," able to play both aggressively in attack and confidently in defense. They have medium armor, adequate mobility, and decent firepower, which makes them versatile and reliable choices for both novice and experienced Commanders.

Now—back to the branch composition.
The Ho-Ni III and the Type 95 Ji-Ro
The first tank in the line is the Ho-Ni III. If you’ve enjoyed the German Tier V StuG III Ausf. G, playing the Ho-Ni III will feel familiar—but with an even more powerful and accurate gun. This vehicle lacks armor, so you should use ambush tactics to maximize your lifespan and thus contribute to your team’s victory.

Next up: the Tier VI Type 95 Ji-Ro. Its gameplay is similar to its predecessor's but with a few modifications. The Type 95 Ji-Ro boasts high concealment values and a view range of 350 m. But due to the almost complete lack of armor, it will have to spend most of its lifetime in ambushes. The closest analog of this vehicle is the Soviet SU-100.
Tier VII–IX Vehicles: More Armor and Versatility
Starting from Tier VII, the gameplay concept of these Japanese TDs changes—they get sturdy frontal armor and even more respectable damage per shot!

The Chi-To SP has vulnerable zones in the frontal projection—big Commander’s cupolas, lower glacis plate—but it can already absorb standard shells from same-tier opponents. Try to use the terrain and turn your vehicle’s hull to decrease the impact angle, thus boosting your armor effectiveness and ricochet chances.

The Chi-To SP is maneuverable and can confidently follow heavy tanks carrying either a 75 mm or 105 mm cannon with decent damage per shot.

Roll out to the upper tiers in the Tier VIII Ho-Ri 2! This vehicle embodies the best qualities of Japanese TDs and balances its solid frontal armor with a hefty gun that has 400 HP of damage per shot.

The Ho-Ri 2 has two cupolas, one of which is at a very acute angle towards the enemy in front of you, so it won't be easy to penetrate it. There are several other vulnerable zones in the lower and upper glacis plates, but only the best Tier VIII guns can penetrate them.

The Ho-Ri 2 will perform brilliantly as an aggressive support vehicle from the second line of fire. The vehicle’s good reverse speed (15 km/h) makes it easier to roll out, take a shot, and withdraw into cover so that enemies can’t zero in on your weak spots.

Another standout support vehicle waits for you in Tier IX. The Ho-Ri 1 is a serious damage dealer armed with a fearsome 149 mm gun with 650 HP of damage per shot—but a rather long (15.5 s) reload time. It has a big lower glacis plate that you’ll need to hide, but your opponents will have serious problems penetrating the upper part of the cabin. With its notable armor penetration values and adequate mobility, the Ho-Ri 1 has what it takes to be a true roving menace on the battlefield.
The Ho-Ri 3: The Crown Jewel of the New Line
All the hallmarks of the Japanese TD line culminate in the Ho-Ri 3. Its effective frontal armor is up to 300 mm, and its durability is 2,000 HP. The only true weak spot on the front of this mastodon is the lower glacis plate. The average damage per shot is 700 HP, and the standard AP shell has 305 mm of penetration, which is enough to bring down even Tier X tanks with a few shots.

Its huge profile and low camouflage values mean that staying at the back is not an option. The vehicle’s top speed is 35 km/h, and this is quite enough to arrive at key positions about the same time as allied heavies and provide them with significant fire support.

The parameters displayed are valid for the vehicle with each crew member trained to 100% major qualification level. Some vehicle characteristics can be further improved with the Commander's bonus to major qualification level, crew perks, as well as special in-game items.

[expand]

[/expand]
The Ho-Ri 3 can also be used as a mighty breakthrough vehicle, but use caution, since its lower plate is rather large. You should always make the most of the terrain, take advantageous positions, and turn your vehicle’s hull to decrease the impact angle.

Enjoy playing these versatile Japanese tank destroyers, Commanders!
