Onslaught: A New Mode to Test Your Skills
• In this exciting new mode, battles take place with collectible and researchable Tier X vehicles only and in the 7v7 format. You must have at least one Tier X tank in your Garage to participate in the Onslaught mode.
  • The matchmaker will be selecting both allies and opponents for teams based on the mode’s Ranked System. It will take your position into account and find opponents with a similar rating to yours.
  • During the countdown before entering battle, you will be able to select a different Tier X vehicle in the pre-battle lobby or switch to a different set of equipment, shells, and consumables.
  • All vehicles in this mode feature their own combat roles. Depending on your role, you will have a unique Role Skill with three levels of charge. The higher the charge level, the stronger the effect of the skill will be. To upgrade your Role Skill level, earn Prestige Points in battles for performing any useful action. You will earn more Prestige Points for actions that are most relevant to your combat role.
  • By capturing Points of Interest on the map, you can activate Tactical Skills and help your teammates gain an advantage over your opponents.
  • Instead of the classic three-player Platoons, Onslaught features two-player squads. You can also create a team of seven Commanders and fight against an opposing Super Platoon.
  • Onslaught offers two lines of rewards. The first line features a unique progressive 2D style, Dog Tag elements, and more, and is based on your Rank. The second features more traditional, valuable rewards, such as bonds and pieces of equipment, and is based on the number of victories. You'll also be able to earn Battle Pass Points while playing Onslaught.
To make the new mode the perfect place for the best of the best to compete on an equal playing field, we're introducing many new gameplay mechanics. All of them are designed to further enhance Onslaught's competitiveness. Let’s take a look at them individually.
Pre-Battle Lobby
In the pre-battle lobby during the countdown before battle, you can change your selected vehicle. Be sure to prepare it for battle, though—it must be repaired and have a full crew and ammo loaded. You can also select an alternative set of equipment, shells, and consumables. You will also see your vehicle and your allies at the starting positions on the map.
Prestige Points and Vehicle Role Skills
All vehicles in Onslaught have special roles depending on their conduct on the battlefield. During the course of each battle, you earn Prestige Points according to your role and combat performance.

Depending on its role, each vehicle type features a special Role Skill with three levels of charge. All vehicles of the same combat role have the same skills. For example, assault heavy tanks have Field Repairs at their disposal, which, after activation, creates a zone that gradually restores the vehicle's and its teammates' HP within a certain radius. Assault medium tanks can use the Fury skill, which reduces reload time by a few seconds. There are many other Role Skills in the mode, so every vehicle will have the opportunity to better fulfill its purposes on the battlefield.

At the start of a battle, all Role Skills are unavailable. To activate a Role Skill, you need to have at least one level of charge. Perform your best in battles and earn Prestige Points to unlock and improve your Role Skill from level 1 to 3. The higher the charge level, the more powerful the effect of your Role Skill. Upon activation, you spend all accumulated charge. You can reuse your Role Skill after a cooldown.

Prestige Points also affect how many Rating Points you gain or lose, which are needed to advance through the mode's progression.
Maps and Points of Interest
Battles in Onslaught will unfold on the following select set of Random Battle maps:

                 Himmelsdorf
                      Ensk
                      Cliff
                   Westfield
                 Sand River
                    El Halluf
                    Redshire
                 Ghost Town
                      Pilsen

Some of these maps have been slightly reworked specifically for Onslaught to make the battles more engaging and competitive. We’ve added additional firing and cover positions, passes, etc.

Each map in Onslaught has special Points of Interest called Artillery Headquarters and Communication (Comms) Center. Having captured a Point of Interest, you'll be able to activate a unique Tactical Skill to gain an advantage over your opponents.
  • If you capture the Artillery Headquarters, you can command an Artillery Strike on the selected area, stunning and causing damage to enemy vehicles.
  • Capturing the Comms Center allows you to use Divisional Radar. Upon its activation, all enemy vehicles remain spotted for three seconds.
  • Depending on the map, the location and number of Points of Interest may vary.
  • The Point of Interest capture time is 15 seconds for the Artillery Headquarters and seven seconds for the Comms Center. Only one vehicle can capture a Point of Interest.
  • To reset a Points of Interest’s capture progress, cause HP damage or critical damage to the capturing enemy vehicle. Accordingly, you will lose all capture progress each time you get damaged, and you won’t be able to capture this Point of Interest again for five seconds. However, your allies and opponents can capture this Point of Interest without restriction.
  • If you don’t activate your Tactical Skill, you won’t be able to re-capture the Point of Interest it belongs to.
Fog of War
To make battles even more unpredictable, Onslaught features the Fog of War mechanic. At the beginning of a battle, teams won’t know the location and strength (i.e., vehicle types and models) of the enemy forces until they’re spotted.
Get Ready to Fight in Super Platoons!
Choose to fight solo or create a two-player Platoon with your friend. You can also join a Super Platoon of seven teammates of equal rating and fight against an opposing Super Platoon.

To create a Platoon with your teammate, the difference between the highest and lowest Rating Points value of both players should not exceed 350 Points. If you want to fight as a seven-player Super Platoon, the difference between the highest and lowest Rating Points value among all players should not exceed 490 Points.
Battle Communication
In Onslaught, you will be able to communicate with your teammates and coordinate your tactics via voice chat. This will be disabled by default, but you can enable it with one touch using the "H" key (default) or directly in the mode interface. All players who are in voice chat will be marked with a special icon.

The Platoon/Super Platoon voice chat turns into a team chat upon entering the pre-battle lobby.

If you have not turned off voice communication while in a Platoon, you will be automatically connected to the team chat at the start of the battle.
Compete With Equal-Rating Rivals!
Throughout the Season of the Griffin, your experience and individual mastery will be your main advantages. In Onslaught, the matchmaker will take your position in the mode’s Ranked System into account and automatically find opponents close to your rating. It will assemble teams of equal strength based on their rating gained in Onslaught. As a result, players will clash with each other in intense battles, fighting on an equal playing field to discover who is best.

In Onslaught, the matchmaker evenly distributes players of different Ranks and Divisions. Players who differ by 7 Divisions cannot be matched in the same battle.
Ranked System: Watch Your Mastery Grow!
Set yourself apart from the crowd with the progression system with a rating that shows your performance and reflects the growth of your mastery. The higher it is, the greater your status—and reward!—will be.

The mode’s progression is called Ranked System and consists of Ranks and Divisions. To reach new Ranks and Divisions, you need to win battles and earn Rating Points. Your rating directly depends on your results: The more effectively you battle, the more Rating Points you get for each victory.

You can also lose your earned Rating Points for defeats, draws, abandoning the battle before it ends, or long inactivity in the mode (more on that below).

In total, there are seven Ranks in the mode:
  • Debutant
  • Iron
  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Champion
  • Legend
The first five Ranks comprise four Divisions—D, C, B, and A—while the two remaining top Ranks—Champion and Legend—have only one Division.

But the most prestigious and honorable is the Legend Rank. Only 10% of the most skilled and persistent Commanders who manage to enter the mode's Leaderboard will be able to reach this elite ranking.

Learn more
Leaderboard and Rank Inactivity
Onslaught will feature its own dynamic Leaderboard in the game client. It will only display players who have reached the two top Ranks, Champion and Legend. The player's position on the Leaderboard depends on the number of Rating Points they have earned. If several players have the same number of Rating Points, the player who has played more battles in Onslaught will take the higher position.

If you are not active in the mode for a certain period, the number of Rating Points you've earned will gradually decrease. This mechanic will only apply to Silver, Gold, Champion and Legend Rank players.

In addition, each battle played in these four Ranks rewards you with a certain number of activity charges. These charges gradually fill your activity bar and cannot exceed 14 charges. Activity charges can also be obtained by reaching a Rank for which the rank inactivity mechanics apply (i.e., Silver, Gold, Champion and Legend). If you don't have any activity charges, you will lose a certain number of Rating Points, depending on your Rank.
Season Rewards
Now, to the most tantalizing topic: rewards! The Season of the Griffin brings two lines of rewards.

The first reward line includes unique status customization items that will spark envy in other commanders. To get your hands on these rewards, you need to advance through the progression.

Learn more

After you play your first battle in the mode, you will get a unique progressive 2D style that can be applied (and then re-applied, if you wish) to any Tier X vehicle. You will immediately receive Level I of this style. As you reach new Ranks or significant achievements in a specific battle or series of battles, your style will gain new 2D elements, such as emblems, inscriptions (after completing special missions available in Onslaught), and camos.

The maximum Level VII style with the most imposing camo is awarded when you make it to the Legend Rank. In total, you can earn up to five copies of the style during the Season of the Griffin.

Reaching new Ranks will also earn you extra exclusive customizations, including the following:
  • Unique Dog Tag elements, such as Engravings and Backgrounds
  • Cool Griffin mastery badges for reaching the two elite Ranks of Champion and Legend
  • Striking Legend of the Griffin stripe

[expand]

[/expand]
Plus, players in the Champion and Legend Ranks receive bonds daily as an extra reward.

The second reward line includes valuable in-game goodies (e.g., bonds, pieces of equipment, Personal Reserves, etc.) that you will earn for a certain number of victories in the mode. These treats will be distributed among eight stages. To complete each stage and grab your prizes, you need to win a certain number of battles.

Finally, after playing your first battle in Onslaught, you will be awarded these three 7v7 rental vehicles:
  • FV217 Badger
  • M48A5 Patton
  • IS-4
All rental vehicles are replicas of existing tanks with the same characteristics and properties. They will remain on your account until the end of the Season and will be removed when it’s over.

You'll also be able to earn Battle Pass Points when playing Onslaught.
The Season of the Griffin is approaching fast—prepare your Tier X vehicles, and get ready to prove yourself in thrilling battles!

New Personal Reserves: Simple, Efficient, and Easy to Use

Greetings, Commanders!

Update 1.18.1 will bring a fresh batch of upgrades to World of Tanks. One of these upgrades will be the introduction of reworked Personal Reserves, which are easier to use, simpler, and more efficient than ever before. However, since this change will affect a number of valuable in-game items, we want to share all of the details with you in advance.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Personal Reserves are great assets, but, at the moment, they also have some drawbacks:
  • They are hard to locate and navigate through
  • There are too many types of them, way too many unusual durations (like 4 or 6 hours), and miniscule bonus values (like +10% or +15%)
For these reasons, Personal Reserves too often gather dust in players’ Depots. Instead, we want you to get the most value possible from Personal Reserves with minimum extra effort.

Let’s see what will improve!
Easy to Use
Personal Reserves will have a new access point in your Garage that will indicate which Reserves are currently activated and how much time you have left for each.

The old way of activating Personal Reserves was a bit complicated. You’ll now be able to do it in just a couple of clicks.

The new Personal Reserves activation and management screen will be accessible via the top bar in the Garage. On the screen, you will also see the following:
  • All Reserve types available in the game: Personal Reserves (for Combat XP, credits, Crew and Free XP), Event Reserves, and Clan Reserves
  • The number of Reserves on your account
  • The time remaining for each activated Reserve
You will also be able to purchase Personal Reserves directly from this screen, saving you valuable playtime.

Moreover, you will even be able to activate Personal Reserves when in battle. Just press Tab (or hit the B key) and select a Reserve.

Some might say, “What’s so special about activating Personal Reserves mid-fight? Under the current rules, if the bonus expires while I’m in battle, it will still be applied to the results.” Well, just imagine you roll out with no Personal Reserves activated—just as a warmup—and then the battle goes exceptionally well for you. With the current system, you wouldn’t be able to capitalize on your performance. However, this will change with Update 1.18.1, and you’ll be able to activate Personal Reserves before the fight is over! The bonus will apply to the results of the entire battle, not just what you earned after activation.

On top of that, once the effect of an activated Personal Reserve ends, you’ll get a notification showing the amount of extra credits / Combat XP / Crew and Free XP gained. The notification will also feature a button leading to the Personal Reserves activation screen.
Simple and Efficient
To complement the reworked UI, we reviewed and improved the basic mechanics of Personal Reserves by streamlining them and increasing their efficiency.
  • All Personal Reserves will have the same duration: 1 hour. Your questionnaire answers revealed that most players preferred 1‑hour Personal Reserves, so we hope this change will be well received.
  • There will only be three categories of Personal Reserves: for extra credits, for extra Combat XP, and the combined one for Crew and Free XP. The reasoning is simple: There are only three Personal Reserve slots, and you shouldn’t have to choose which type to leave out when you’re filling in all the slots.
  • There will only be two types of Personal Reserve bonus values: Standard and Improved. Once again, this is for simplicity and transparency. We believe that playing World of Tanks should be about having fun on the battlefield, not about estimating comparative values of various Reserves in the Depot.
In the table below, you can see the entire range of new Personal Reserves:

    PERSONAL RESERVE TYPE
    FOR COMBAT XP
    FOR CREW + FREE XP
    FOR CREDITS
    Standard
    +50%
    +200%
    +50%
    Improved
    +100%
    +300%
    +100%
  • Standard Reserves will be awarded for taking part in in-game events and activities. Improved Reserves will come from in-game purchases or as part of in-game Store packages.
  • With Update 1.18.1, it will be technically possible for Standard Personal Reserves to have an expiration date (after which they disappear from the player’s account). Please note that we will not be using this functionality in the foreseeable future. Here’s what it means for players:

    • Improved Personal Reserves will not have expiration date.
    • Converted Personal Reserves will not have expiration date. This applies to both Standard and Improved Personal Reserves.
    • Battle Pass, Well-Deserved Reward, Holiday Ops, or any other current and upcoming activities will NOT distribute Personal Reserves with an expiration date anytime soon.
The Principles of Personal Reserve Conversion
As the new Personal Reserves all have a duration of 1 hour, and given that there will only be two bonus values per type (Standard and Improved), we will have to convert all existing Personal Reserves. With this conversion, the combined value of new Personal Reserves on your account will be greater than or equal to the combined value of old Personal Reserves on your account.

The value of an old Personal Reserve can be defined as its bonus (in %) multiplied by its duration in hours. The value of a new Personal Reserve is simply its bonus (in %) since the new Personal Reserves all have a duration of 1 hour.

Therefore, during this conversion, the value of your Personal Reserves will stay the same or grow. The quantity of new Personal Reserves will always be rounded up, and you will not lose any value during the conversion.

Personal Reserves with a numeric value that exists in the new system but a long duration (e.g., 2 hours) will be converted into the respective number of 1-hour Reserves.
EXAMPLE:

You have seven 2-hour Personal Reserves for +50% to Combat XP. After the conversion, you will get fourteen 1-hour Standard Personal Reserves for +50% to Combat XP.

Personal Reserves with numeric values that do not exist in the new system (e.g., +15% to credits) will have their bonuses “compressed” so that the total value for the player remains the same or increases.

EXAMPLE:

You have two 4-hour Personal Reserves for +15% to credits. After the conversion, you will get three 1-hour Personal Reserves for +50% to credits. Why? One 4-hour Personal Reserve with a bonus of 15% has a value of 60% (15% × 4). As the closest new Personal Reserve bonus value is 50%, you should get 2.4 of the new Reserves (1.2 × 2). This rounds up in your favor to three. With the new Reserve, in 1 hour, you will earn approximately the same number of extra credits that you would earn in 4 hours with the old Reserve.

Personal Reserves for Crew XP and Free XP on your account will be converted into the new combined Personal Reserves for Crew and Free XP as follows. First, the converter will assess the quantity, bonuses, and duration of the Reserves (separately for Reserves with Standard and Improved bonuses). Then, the converter will calculate the number of new combined Personal Reserves that would appear after the conversion of Personal Reserves for Crew XP and Personal Reserves for Free XP. After that, the converter will choose the greater value and add the resulting number of new combined Personal Reserves on your account.

EXAMPLE:

You have eight 2-hour Personal Reserves for +300% to Crew XP and eleven 2-hour Personal Reserves for +300% to Free XP. After the conversion, you will get twenty-two 1-hour combined Personal Reserves for +300% to Crew and Free XP. Why? One 2-hour Personal Reserve with a bonus of 300% has a value of 600% (300% × 2). The total value of eight 2-hour Personal Reserves is 4,800%, and in case with eleven 2-hour Personal Reserves is 6,600%, which is the greater of the two. By dividing 6,600% by 300%, we get 22.
Commanders, we hope you enjoy the reworked Personal Reserves system and UI. Game on!

[UPDATED] 07/09/2022

Taking the discussion on the matter into consideration, we’ve decided NOT to make Personal Reserves from Season IX Base rewards time-limited after Update 1.18.1. Therefore, ALL Personal Reserves you obtain as Battle Pass Season IX rewards will have no expiration date, whether you collect them before or after 1.18.1 hits.

Regarding time-limited Personal Reserves in general, we will introduce them as an in-game entity with Update 1.18.1. Yet we have no plans to use them in in-game activities in foreseeable future.

Once the new mechanics are introduced, all Personal Reserves on your account will be converted into the new reserves at no loss of value. Expect a dedicated article on the new Personal Reserves in the coming days.
The Rewards
If you played the previous two Battle Pass Seasons of 2022, you know the drill: Earn Battle Pass Points and complete Stages to receive rewards. Start with any Chapter and switch between Chapters as often as you wish without losing your progress. If you would like more comprehensive instructions or just want to know every single detail about Season IX, check out the full guide.

TO THE FULL GUIDE

The mountain of Battle Pass Season IX prizes is already towering high, but you can make it even taller by obtaining an Improved Pass.

Soon, we will announce all of the improvements we’re going to make to the mechanics and UI of Personal Reserves. But for now, here are the key changes:
  • All Personal Reserves will have a duration of one hour.
  • Personal Reserves for Crew XP and Free XP will be merged into a single combined type. (This also applies to Season IX progression rewards.)
  • Along with the three types of Personal Reserves, there will be two grades of bonuses: Standard (+50% to XP / +50% to credits / +200% to Crew and Free XP) and Improved (+100% to XP / +100% to credits / +300% to Crew and Free XP).
  • Newly-issued Standard Personal Reserves, including those from Season IX Base Rewards, will have an expiration date (one month after Season IX ends), but Improved Personal Reserves will not.
Once the new mechanics are introduced, all Personal Reserves on your account will be converted into the new reserves at no loss of value. Personal Reserves that are collected as Season IX Base Rewards before the implementation of the new mechanics will not have expiration dates after being converted. Moreover, Personal Reserves that come as Improved Rewards will never have expiration dates.

You can expect a dedicated article on the new Personal Reserves mechanics in the coming days.
The 3D Styles
The Season IX 3D styles give the Core Vehicles a cutting-edge appearance, bristling with innovation.
  • The Bernard 3D style for the 60TP Lewandowskiego turns this tough tank into a truly stylish moving stronghold.
  • The Cesare 3D style for the Progetto M40 mod. 65 makes this sharpshooter look even sharper.
  • The Le Vizir 3D style for the AMX 13 105 gives this nimble-yet-dangerous reconnaissance vehicle a hi-tech visual upgrade.

With the new 3D styles you can have even more customization options for these iconic vehicles! Just remember - don't get too carried away checking out your 3D style during the battle!
The Cobra
Here comes a very rare reptile that will happily feed on your opponents’ tears. But all jokes aside, this British Tier IX medium tank featuring an autoloader that can be packed with HESH shells has already proven itself in many battles. Get it before Season IX ends! If you already have the Cobra in your Garage, consider claiming some of the other great rewards offered for Battle Pass Tokens, including Tier IX vehicles and trophy equipment.

The Cobra is a tricky tank to master, that's for sure! The ability to deliver crazy amounts of damage (1440 with your regular rounds and whopping 2060 with HE) in just 4.5 seconds may make you think that you can easily outperform any tank on the opponents' team. However, such a "superpower" comes at a cost of a huge reload time and weak armor, so be extra careful while operating this beast on the battlefield. You are extremely dangerous, but extremely vulnerable at the same time.

The Outpost Hits Random Battles!

The Outpost is the latest location to appear in the game. Although this map is brand new, it may already be familiar to many curious tankers who took part in Recon Mission 2021, in which Outpost became a fan favorite. Now it's here to stay with improved visuals, fine-tuned gameplay, and a powerful soundtrack. Let’s look, learn, and listen!
Enjoy the Views
During Recon Mission 2021, the focus was mainly on the gameplay of Outpost. However, over this last year, our art team has done their best to scale up the appearance of the map and give it more character. Thanks to all of the new special details, we were able to give Outpost a look that fits more closely with its approximate location in Central Europe (with maybe a slight turn to the East). Check out the map’s vistas below.
Play in Various Ways
Outpost is a summer map with lots of open space. It has multiple gameplay zones, allowing every vehicle type to shine and every tactical approach to be tried out. Each zone has its own unique landscape and special objects so you always know where you are on the map. The main landmark is the castle on a hill, which dominates the entire location.

I would suggest you play carefully and avoid doing risky rushes, as your teammates might not be ready to support such ventures on an unfamiliar map. Besides, it has a lot of open space where you can attract some unwanted attention of the enemy TDs. Start out defensive, secure the urban area with your heavies and make sure you are working as a team!
Hear the Story
The Outpost soundtrack really highlights its location somewhere in “Central-to-Eastern” Europe. The theme is based on a traditional song called “Ederlezi” and it starts with solo vocals—in our vision, those of a young girl who holds an old music box and reminisces about her grandmother. The symphonic orchestra (especially the percussion section) and the folk choir spin this story into a powerful and moving tale.
