Aztecs: The Last Sun News

New Demo available now!

Oh mighty Tlatoani!

We have updated the demo for you!
Changes
• The terrain was overhauled
 • Save system
 • Possibility, to continue playing after the questline

The new demo is based on the updated terrain system, which is a significant change from the previous demo. Now, you get to know the Bloodzone right at the beginning of the game, rather than just later on. This ensures that you will experience the feature quite early, since it's a core aspect of the game. A save system was implemented, so you can create save games now, which was not possible before. When reaching the end of the demo, you can continue playing, if you want, but there will be no new content and no new researches. Also, there are numerous UI/UX changes, giving Aztecs: The Last Sun a fresher and improved appearance. Lastly, the new demo includes performance optimizations and numerous bug fixes.

We wish you a lot of fun!

A Day in Aztec Life

O Mighty Tlatoani!

Every sunrise in the game starts with opportunity. Every sunset ends in survival. Here’s what a typical day in your empire looks like - and why every hour matters.
Morning: Calm Before the Chaos
The sun rises over your city. Farmers start working the chinampas, priests begin their daily prayers, and you start making decisions that could mean life or death come nightfall.

It’s a peaceful start. But that peace doesn’t last forever.

This is when you expand your city, assign your workers, and get your economy going. It’s also when you start preparing your Blood Shield - a barrier that’s going to be your only defense once the sun goes down.

You can begin offering sacrifices during the day to charge it up. Yes, it’s dark. But this world demands balance. If you don’t prepare, your people won’t survive the night.
Midday: All Hands on Deck
By noon, the city is alive. Temples are humming with activity, markets are full, and workers are out in force.

This is your time to build smart, stockpile resources, and get ahead of nightfall. You’ll need enough food, labor, and priest power to keep things running - and enough blood to keep the shield up. That means making tough calls: who works, who prays, and who becomes an offering.

Everything you do now sets the stage for what comes after dark.
Dusk: The Shift
You can feel it. The music slows. The shadows stretch. The final sacrifices are made. And you know it’s time.

The Blood Shield activates at sunset. If you’ve kept it charged through daytime rituals, it’ll light up the city in a warm red glow. You’ll be safe - for a while.

But it doesn’t last forever.
Night: The Long Wait
Now it’s survival time.

The Blood Shield protects your city from the horrors that come out at night - but it slowly drains. If you don't prepare well enough during the day, it’ll collapse before dawn.

Luckily, you have one more option: Blood Temples.

These mysterious structures appear only at night. If you send your priests into them, they can gather more blood and extend your survival time. But they have to make it back alive - and while they’re gone, you’re on edge.

Will they return in time? Will the shield hold? Can you make it to sunrise?

When you do, it feels incredible. You earned that dawn.

Thanks so much for reading, and for playing the demo. We’re really proud of how Aztecs: The Last Sun is shaping up, and we can’t wait to share more soon.

Until then, Tlatoani - build smart, prepare well, and never underestimate the night.

Nightfall Challenges

O Mighty Tlatoani!
Today we want to talk about one of the most intense and vital features in Aztecs: The Last Sun: nighttime survival and the Blood Shield that protects your city while the sun is away.
The Shield
When night falls, your city doesn’t just sit there vulnerable. Instead, a powerful magical shield rises to protect your people from the horrors that come out after dark.
Keep in mind that this shield isn’t free. It’s powered by blood offerings and sacrifices, and it only lasts as long as you can keep fueling it.

So while it may look like the gods have your back… you’re the one making it happen.
How Do You Power the Shield?
Once the sun sets, temporary blood temples begin appearing around the map. These temples are your lifeline at night - that’s where your priests go to gather blood, which is then used to keep the shield alive.

But it’s not as simple as sending a priest and forgetting about it. Remember to:

 • Assign enough priests to collect blood from the temples.
 • Time it right: if you collect blood too slowly or don’t bring back enough, your shield won’t hold through the night.

The Shield of Blood isn’t just a cool visual effect. It’s a mechanic that forces you to plan ahead.

During the day, you’ll need to:

 • Decide how many priests to train
 • Make sure the blood pool is at a sufficient level to protect your people during the night
 • Gather resources (like Grace and Trust) that support your nightly rituals

And when night comes? It’s all about reacting smart and fast.

The blood management and having priests are such a big part of surviving the night. It’s not about brute force - it’s about sacrifice, timing, and strategy.

We’re really proud of how the night cycle plays out in Aztecs: The Last Sun. It’s tense, it’s challenging, and it makes you think differently about how you use your people and resources.

And the best part? When you survive until dawn - and that golden light washes over your city again - it feels amazing.
