Mayan women: a study

Did you know that Mayan women liked perfume and a daily bath with cold water?

In Yucatan at the Time of the Spanish Encounter by Fray Diego de Landa, chapter XXXI mentions the following about the cosmetics and clothing of Mayan women:

Their noses were pierced through the small square that divides the windows in the middle to put an amber stone in the hole and had it as an ornament.
They pierced their ears to put on earrings in the same way of their husbands; carved their body from the waist up, except for the breasts.

The Indian women of the provinces of Bacalar and Campeche dressed very modestly. The breasts were covered by tying the clothes under the armpits using a folded blanket. All the others did not wear any clothing other than a long and wide jacket open on both sides.

O the basis of the descriptions and reconstructions from the murals, codex vessels and clay figures by Daniel Parada (Aka Zotz), we shaped our own study of what a noble and commoner woman of Yucatan would look like during the period of the Spanish conquest. Moving away from the stereotypes present in Apocalypto, seeking a respectful balance between historical authenticity and fantasy.
