Creating realistic, compelling characters
We believe that creating believable characters is the best way to evoke genuine emotion and reaction from players. Visual attributes can be purposely used in order to communicate aspects of a character's personality, producing a more immersive and enjoyable gameplay.
That's why the anatomy and appearance of Mictlan's characters is the result of thorough research and planning, achieved by studying pre-Hispanic codices and colonial writings.

This research has led us to discover that body modification and attires used by early civilizations carried with them not only social symbols and status, but they spoke of people's literacy, wealth, and also their religion.
The body was a vessel for the most precious gift the Gods game men: life.
The study of anthropomorphic imagery in Mesoamerican cultures offers meaningful information and a better understanding of personhood, conceptions of the body, and relationships between humans, nature, and the divine.
The artificial alteration of physical appearance was of the utmost social importance in the Mesoamerican world, it transcended pure aesthetics and was imbued with social significance, religious beliefs and also had a divine function: it represented a bridge, a medium between the natural and divine worlds.

Taking into account these kinds of research, the work of our talented concept artists becomes a process of creativity in which designers come up with scenarios, attires and color schemes appropriate to the historical period in which our story takes place.
They proceed by modeling a three-dimensional mesh for each object, natural and architectural elements. They define the anatomy and bone structure of animals and people, shaping their realistic movements. Final touches are added by adjusting the colors, textures and lighting for each scene.
Of course, everything is also adjusted to meet aesthetic criteria, game-related necessities and the amount of realism that we wish to convey.

The creative process, resulting from dynamic and collaborative teamwork, is aimed at developing interesting and compelling characters in which players can identify. When you immerse into a video game, you want to become one of the characters who exist within that universe, a character you get to know and share an epic journey and experience with.

In the case of Mictlan, players will be able to travel back in time, living, breathing a mythical tale, immersing themselves in the history and identity of ancient Mexico.
