Flyers of Papantla
Today we are presenting you the Flyers of Papantla, those who performed the ancient Ritual of the Flyers.
The origin of this ritual is a prayer to a deity as a way to ask for the rain to fall over the crops in times of drought. It was a fertility dance full of symbolism, originally associated with the region of Totonacapan in Veracruz.
These participants to the Ritual of the Flyers, in Pre-Columbian times, are wearing more simple clothes, they are possibly from a more rural area, isolated from the urban centers where these rituals would have the proper flair of an event of this magnitude.
