Today we want to show you the first concept arts for the Mexica deity Cihuacoatl.
The “snake woman” is a deity associated with earth and its fertility under the name of Quilaztli; but perhaps her biggest qualities are her prophetic abilities and her intimate relationship with power as a complementary figure to Huitzilopochtli.
The temple of Cihuacoatl was known as the House of Blackness, and in some texts, there were stories about how it was necessary to crawl into a space of complete darkness where she resided.
